    Katt Williams predicted 2024 would be "The Year of Truth", and so far it's living up to the hype with an onslaught of scandals, exposés, and celebrities spilling all the tea. But is this raw "truth-telling" really setting us free, or is it just feeding our appetite for controversy and drama?
    From the Kendrick vs Drake rap beef to Jonathan Majors' downfall to Shannon Sharpe's wildly popular "safe space" on Club Shay Shay - we're dissecting the nuances of this new "name and shame" culture. And whether the desperation for relevance is causing some to cross the line.

      The year of truth is meaningless unless we really try to be and do better. I mean monsters deserve prison but we aren't all monsters...? No, no we're not. But trolling isn't truth. And we have to be accountable before we can expose someone else's mess, at least publicly. Address your brothers and sisters in public. Address them in love and give them opportunity to course correct. We'd want the same treatment. The world gets better as we all do that in our own circles and communities.

      Is there any chance for a Book of Clarence review? I think it’s an excellent film but found out many Christians found the premise offensive. Although I am not a Christian, I was raised in church and while it takes Bible events unseriously (blasphemy), it affirms the Christ concept. I just watched it and immediately came look for an old review to no success.

      Look up the term "ideological subversion". There is a systematic control mechanism set in place to control the masses emotions whenever and however through certain events so that everyone has the exact same opinion and feelings about it. Hive mindedness.

      The Bible says in Deuteronomy 19:15, “One witness shall not rise up against a man [or woman] for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he [or she] sins: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.” But too many people - including police, prosecutors and judges - swallow unproven accusations as if they are inherently true. That is why 90 percent of people in U.S. prisons have never had a trial: they are shamed and coerced into accepting “plea deals” to avoid kangaroo trials where biased juries will be fed uncorroborated gossip, racial prejudice and emotional provocation in favor of draconian sentences. Famous prosecutors and lawyers make no secret about the fact that they don’t win cases on the actual facts or laws involved, but by picking jurors who are already prone to vote for convictions. So, justice is rare - and now the culture of celebrating mudslingers will only made things worse for racial and religious minorities, and for other vulnerable groups.

    I don't know about 'truth', but this is definitely the year of exposure! Katt Williams set it off in an entertaining way 🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!! Tiffany, you really had some gems in this video. Highlighting the prideful nature of this "truth-telling" period was something that I did not see before (well, I started to notice with the interview clips of Amanda Seales and Jonathan Majors and how they had no accountability)! Also, you talked about real prophets not being popular because they told THE TRUTH (not 'my truth' or 'your truth') and many people cannot handle it; this was simple yet very profound!!!

    Question about the Kendric/Drake beef and the variety of responses, content, and art created around it.
    :
    While it is great seeing so much analysis of hip hop as the prose that it is, was anyone else weirded out by the way people outside of hip hop culture consumed and fetishized the event? I saw so many videos where people who outwardly hated rap and hip hop, watched and reacted to the beef in an exploitative "everything is content" kind of way. They actedn as if it confirmed their stereotypical ideas of "sex, drugs, violence, and misogyny" being the only avenues of expression within black cultural music genres.

    The Martin/Coretta thing made me laugh😂😂 but yeah, people not being able to admit when they’re wrong is a big problem. It’s a muscle that you have to exercise. I had to really change that about myself because my family was like that. I make it a goal of mine to say “I was wrong you were right” as much as possible saying, I made a mistake. Owning up to a mistake and not giving explanations or excuses unless it’s constructive. We agree on a lot of things in this video.

  • @martinking27
    @martinking27 Месяц назад +8

    I think the part where you expressed a desire to not just name-and-shame, but to actually affect change resonates with me the most, and that’s what defines a year of truth.
    I believe real truth tellers don’t even commit the greatest time to naming-and-shaming online, or amplifying what is being done wrong. They’re too busy taking action on the ground to amplify what is right & ensure that it keeps working for the individuals and communities it affects.
    Sadly, algorithms don’t catch fire over good news (lol 😂) and that’s another point you made so well in this video. 💯

    You completely missed the single thread running throughout all of these examples (especially the Beef): its truthtellers vs the industry, not random individuals. So the focus on "relevancy" seems odd when the industry determines who gets to be relevant more often than we honestly acknowledge. This feels better as a warning to stay critical of what we hear as opposed to a true dissection of the 2024 war on "hollyweird".

    • @TC-ym1vk
      @TC-ym1vk Месяц назад +6

      They are random individuals if you don’t know them personally. Do you have this same tenacity for the truth with the men around you that you do know?

    • @TiffanyByrdHarrison
      @TiffanyByrdHarrison  29 дней назад +5

      I see what you mean, but I don’t think I was missing the thread in terms of truth tellers versus the industry because the fact the matter is that is a through line on my channel (welcome in if you’re new!) and my more explicit message was about “ truth” isn’t true. The culture has determined the perception is true, which means that people are clamor at the bit to try to share their truth to stay on top. Less about the industry and more about our attention.
      Also, “the warning to stay critical of what we hear as opposed to the true dissection” -I’ll take that as feedback and critique of the way that I laid this out. My video was pretty broad, but I can certainly dive deeper in future videos so thank you for the suggestions.

    Yes to everything! The Lord called me away from Twitter and The Shade Room and other gossip things. One reason is because I see now that I was becoming very judgements and prideful concerning celebrities I don’t even know. Now that we’re 5 months in- I see why He called me away because I had my own stuff to work through. The Bible says we are all just mists here for one minute and gone the next. As a Christian, I have to see even celebrities as made in God’s image and that they - like me- have the time to repent and receive grace. Because we all fall short.

We don’t know everything and the situations people go through to bring an individual down a dark path. As someone who is chronically online a lot (trying to get off currently lol), I did catch myself so much in the "truths" exposed that I felt like I lost a lot myself and my moralities in it. I think the investment I've put in the narratives exposed showed me that I love to feed off of pride. But the problem with that is that I now feel a sickness when digesting in this type of media; almost like having spaghetti for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. I began to want out of this culture and the habits I've developed because of my investment in said culture. This video perfectly encapsulates why I feel nauseous with this content and also helps me look at myself in a different way. Definitely subscribed! All in all, great video!

    “Innocent until proven guilty” is a legal and moral principle that modern Americans no longer honor, especially when racial, religious or sexual minorities are involved. Today, people treat you are guilty on the basis of the flimsiest, uncorroborated allegations, even if you’ve been a person of sterling character all your life, in all the decades before and after lies are told about you. It’s very depressing.
    The Bible says that “truth” must be confirmed by a minimum of two or three people who tell identical details about the same alleged incident: Deuteronomy 19:15 says, “One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.”

    Great video on a topic that I’ve never seen addressed in such a nuanced way. The lack of self reflection in our society and an insatiable need to “call out” others is doing a lot of good but it’s equally as destructive. Policing others is becoming a replacement for policing ourselves, instead of a compliment to it. The long term consequences of this really scare me. A very very flawed man got an audience to point out other peoples flaws and was hailed as a martyr of truth. He then used the millions he got from Netflix to feed us a garbage terribly written comedy special. He skirted right away needing to improve his comedy bc he got the same result with “exposing” truths. Not how that is supposed to work.

    But I had to let God heal me from that. There are still wounds healing there, but now I understand that bitterness was tearing me up.
    I think these call outs, started by Katt, are not rejoicing in truth, but rejoicing in humiliating enemies.
    The bible tells us to rebuke with gentleness and that is not what’s happening with a lot of these entertainers.

    I may be misunderstanding something here, although I tend to believe that I'm smart enough to comprehend this. Are you condemning people for telling their experiences publicly and liking it to clout chasing? It feels very, "Don't tell people what we are doing in the house."
    Interestingly, we have evidence of the wrongdoing that many of these people have now revealed. It's not solely their opinions in a lot of this, and they are also being challenged. I do agree that there are those who don't care whether there is corroborating evidence and just roll with who they like most.
    If you do shameful and harmful things, you do not deserve any level of protection or secrecy. I don't feel that this is attention seeking. There is a message being sent that we collectively aren't cool with people being horrible behind the scene and it remaining a well known secret. We financially support these people and may not if we knew what was going on with them. A lot of abusers continue to abuse because of the decision not to name and shame. I also think that it is helping to reduce celebrity culture.

    • @TiffanyByrdHarrison
      @TiffanyByrdHarrison  Месяц назад +11

      Hi Kokiko, thanks for your thoughtful question and comment. I am not condemning people for telling their experiences. What I am pointing out is that folks are more interested in calling out than calling up. Again, this isn't about maintaining secrecy or protection of those who are doing shameful and harmful things - those should be named.
      This is more about not taking our cues from celebs who all want to remain on top by degrading others. Cause here's the truth - even if someone has offended you, pissed you off, did you dirty, how do you make sure they "pay for it?" That's a serious question we have to ask ourselves. How much revenge will be satisfactory? How do we know we've been recompensed? And again, not talking about unlawful, criminal, truly harmful things.
      I'm talking about bitterness, unforgiveness, pettiness - anything that comes out of pride and not that which comes out of true love or justice. how much energy are we willing to put into making sure the person who wronged us pays vs. building our life on humble ground? I know what I'm suggesting is countercultural and that's my point.

Like a magic trick of misdirection, it always makes me wonder, if they are showing us this. what is going on elsewhere, that they want to keep hidden? It won’t “all be revealed” we are being kept entertained by watching stars rise, fall and enjoying their demise. Businesses put money into these people to keep us entertained, they have just changed who they have invested in, so those who have been exposed no longer matter. I don't disagree that Club Shay Shay and the culture is largely uncritical of the people who appear on that podcast.
    However, I'm wondering what comments section you were viewing regarding Amanda Seales, because by and large, most of the people who talk about her have EXTREME criticism of her. I can't believe you haven't seen people going in on her for "lying" about having autism spectrum disorder because she doesn't have a clinical diagnosis and instead took a self-assessment. Diagnosis is expensive and takes a long time, multiple visits, and sometimes multiple psychiatric providers before a successful diagnosis. And people are eating her up over it.
    Even in the course of her interview with Sharpe, he pushed back on many of the things she said that he had no reason to question, like whether she was subjected to racism while working as a child actor and in her early education.

    • @TiffanyByrdHarrison
      @TiffanyByrdHarrison  Месяц назад +8

      Yoyo great point. I just went back and it looks a lot more "diverse" in the comments because BAYBEE, that first day - everyone looked like they were gassing her. I watched the first 2 hours the day it came out. That said - I do think the internet is split. Because she was in fact being misrepresented by Shannon on the points about racism and her ethnic makeup which made me eye roll. Like shannon, do some research brother.
      But Amanda - I will do a separate video on her interview...she's prideful and talented. Educated and lacking self awareness. the challenge is both can be true at the same time but folks struggle to hold a dual view of people. We think in absolutes when we should realize that folks are complex.
      That autism spectrum piece, expensive is totally fair. But she is very good with words. And it seemed she intentionally misled the interview about her diagnosis. Her saying that she was self assessed would have been more transparent.

    Great topic and great insight. Pride is out there for sure. We have to be very careful with the year of truth. It's great to see people who are doing truly awful things be exposed and held accountable but there is a reason we have courts and due process. People jump to conclusions. They are swayed by popularity, or their own experiences, or other biases. I"m almost sure at least one of these truths will turn out to be false in the end. Unfortunately, retractions just don't hit the same.

This year more so asks “have you been paying attention?” Because all these “truths” are really a distraction to the real truth - our own personal growth and the individual contribution to the collective whole. I love your work and have been lurking for a while however, though i agreed with 80% of your video, i have to pull a hard 90 on your Majors assessment of pride. Though I appreciate you do not know the ins and outs of the case, this was a very skewed judgement in my opinion. As someone who covered his trial extensively as well as speak to court reports daily on the case, read the transcripts and also is working on a documentary to show how the media attention of the case was a public lynching of an innocent man. Its interesting you didnt show the video of him running away from her because this context explains the interview. He has expressed how wrong he was to not leave the relationship earlier, and not have that courage and was stepping out. He admits to see other women as he did not know how to exit the toxicity. And how that night got the way it was due to him receiving a text. To me thats the opposite of pride. With all of that said, i do understand why you framed it the way you did as a youtuber, we all have our unique angle and narrativrs and thats okay. However, there is an embellishment that just doesnt sit right with me. I appreciate the video and your videos as a whole. They are of quality. Keep it up.

    • @TiffanyByrdHarrison
      @TiffanyByrdHarrison  25 дней назад +4

      I appreciate the pushback! very interesting to see your working on the documentary. I would be interested to watch once you’re done.
      We have to consider that the “pride“ displayed was more than just his court dealings. pride shows up much more subtly than we care to admit. sure, pride can show up as arrogance or a puffed up sense of self, but it can also show up as sunken cost. Staying in a relationship that has discernible red flags. Asking for your spouse to support your “Martin Luther King” or “Malcolm X” calling but blinded to the fact that the person you’re with can’t accommodate that. Pride shows up in secret relationships, cheating, or understanding that you want out of your current relationship, but resorting to multiple affairs instead of breaking it off.
      I totally hear your perspective on embellishment, but I want you to consider that beyond the court case, even with the limited details we have on their relationship, Jonathan did not have the fore sight of a humble stance, and in my opinion, that complicated the matter even more.

      @@TiffanyByrdHarrison I appreciate you and I am not begrudging you for your choices but after you've clarified, I can see why you made those choices. Factoring in the cheating, like you've mentioned, I can understand why you said he was "remorseful" in the video, I guess its my personality of yearning for completeness, but thats not on you, your point was valid in context of it all because, yes he is prideful in believing he can do those things as he felt he wants it to end ignoring allegiances. I do think he is humble from what I saw in the interview but thats me. I personally think the way he was portrayed by the media was not necessarily fair for others that has been in his position, let alone had the evidence he had. Ok, so legally, the case was a bit dicey imo! What I believe sealed the deal on "harmed but without intent" was that he is a strong man (Black, ofc) and that was a double whammy for putting his hands on small woman (White, obvi) to defend himself. But more than that was the text messages that implied he didn't want her to go to the hospital the first time they had a DV incident because she "wasn't protecting them and they would ask questions even if she lied" (this is paraphrased) and she replies, "I want to get painkillers but I wouldn't tell them what really happened because I want to be with you" 😐
      In terms of my personal opinion, I think the "wrong" was in staying in a very toxic, manipulative relationship beyond the first few incidents. This should have been done before it got to a point of cops getting involved. And he kept going back or she kept going towards him and both of them should have walked away. I know that we can find ourselves in these relationships when we're broken people, but famous folks - it's a powderkeg about to explode. For a man who had so much on the line, his biggest problem was a lack of wisdom and foresight ie PRIDE that it wouldn't happen to him.

      I will have to agree about Katt Williams I can’t agree about Amanda. The reason people don’t like Amanda to this day is because she was telling the truth before the year 2024.

      @gabrielmaroto18 the way she's able to recall these stories from decades ago.... no one can do that, not even me, and I have a helluva memory. I know I'm saying "trust me bro" right here, but anyone with a little bit of life experiences knows that woman is full of sh#$

    I don't agree to question. They aren't afraid of falling out of grace with the public. Example, Katt Williams, Amanda Seales, Kendrick Lamar aren't acting on the outside looking in, but them looking out at us. These are the truth speakers. Shannon Sharpe has become the medium to speak that truth. You read the comments, they weren't there to commend them for their honesty. It wasn't until people started combing through history, and paying attention to present events. That those who "glaze" to the devil's fiddle had to shut their mouths and take their fingers off the keyboard. And we really started to hear [(Andre's Flutes)them] instead of just wanting to dance.
    Light doesn't expose truth, skeletons can fall out in the dark. And the use of the two does not equate to morals and amorality. It's how the Don't Rap Against Kendrick Ever made experience continues to make us comb through to find behaviors, that align with the accusations.
    On the other hand we can continue to conspiracy ninja our way through life because the industry will still operate the same. And when those who have had fingers pointed at them will go through the same mediums to defend themselves. To tell their truth even if it is the truth at all. Those are the ones that are trying to save their images, they have the things to lose. When we think of when Katt said the Friday script had rape on screen, then Ice Cube replied he wouldn't put that on screen, but it was on screen/off screen in the Players Club. When they say Katt left before Kevin arrived, but Katt says when I left you showed up. Lil Rell nor Tiffany stepped to him at the party, but Katt had waved a white flag to Tiffany in a prior instance when they met in public. Who is really lying? It is all conjecture and doesn't really matter unless your directly involved. Or we find out people actually are acting amorally. The shared experiences can only be used as learning material for us to improve ourselves and those we can around us. Which is why we spill tea. We would just keep drinking BS if our attention wasn't refocused.
    On a side note, Tiffany Haddish told us about Drake's dad in her comedy special.
    And no one credits Nas for kind of causing the beef when he named Kendrick, Cole and BBL Drizzy on Wu For the Children. J Cole let Nas down again backing out. But I can't be completely sound on my memory but Kendrick dissed J Cole early in his career for signing to Jay Z but he was such a Nas fan. But yeah first Ether, now being the person to tell Drake to speak his demise into existence.

    Y'all are wrong about Amanda Seales.. I hate to say it but dark skin ppl usually are the ones tryna shut her down.. It's giving reverse colorism.. Also, ppl are quick to believe Katt Williams and Kel but not listen to women… the only reason Shannon didn't eat Monique up was her Daddy and team would tear him up.

      There is no such thing as reverse colorism. Doesn't exist, and it is not recognized by any sociological or psychological institution that studies and publishes research colorism. It also has no historical basis either. And the majority of our community is dark to brown skin. If people are critical of her in our community, of course, it would come across as darker skin people are the main ones. Darker skin is the majority!
