FAST TIMES was filmed at my old school, Van Nuys High School, Los Angeles, which matriculated Robert Redford, Natalie Wood and Paula Abdul (my classmate) among many others. The mall where Jennifer Jason Leigh works is actually the Sherman Oaks Galleria, next to Van Nuys, which in 1982 became ground zero for the "Valley Girl" craze. And, yes, Vals really speak like Phoebe Cates in the film: "Gross...that is so immature, like totally".

How about “The Last American Virgin”? That was a good movie and a lesson why young men should never be a simp.
Saw fast times at ridgemont high with a few school chums in the movie theater when it originally came out in 1982. We were 13 year old kids. This movie was rated "R" which meant, according to the movie poster, no one under the age of 17 will be admitted to the theater without a parent or guardian. So my friends asked the middle aged gent standing in the line in front of us if he would act as our "guardian". He was amused and agreed.
Much to my surprise, as we bought our tickets and entered the theater, none of the theater employees asked us our ages, or for ID, or who our parent/guardian was (i wouldnt have been able to point out the middle aged gent since i lost sight of him the moment we stepped foot into the lobby). It was then and there that i learned the theater owner and employees didnt give a damn about underaged kids watching R rated movies in their theaters. From then on i went to see R rated movies whenever i liked.
