just because someone is a stoner doesnt make them an idiot .. look at when Mr Hand comes to Spicoli's house.. Spicoli learns and understands everything Mr Hand teaches him .. he's not stupid .. he just doesnt care about the things he cant change or affect and cares about living simply .. like he said "choice waves and a cool buzz" he would be just as happy living in a mansion or in a RV van parked on the beach ... seriously bro realizes that mo money mo problems .. so he lives simply and is happy with that and not playing the rat race game of keeping up with everyone else .. he is the smartest character in the entire movie ...
      *edit*
i am on drugs while wrote this .. smoking weed and on some valiums ... so the fact that i am "stoned" and have more insight into the character known as Spicoli than you shows that ... just because you are a stoner doesnt mean you are an idiot..

In high school, Sean was a straight A clean cut kid from Malibu and played on the tennis team. We both surfed, but i dont recall ever seeing him in the water. Camron Crowe did a fantastic job researching this with real-life students in a California high school for his book, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, which was made into the movie. The characters in the book were based on actual students that Crowe met at Clairemont High School in San Diego. He talked to the Principal to get permission for his adventure and went undercover for a year. Crowe was an adult at the time but he looked much younger and was able to pass as a student. On a personal note, this was exactly how it was for me at my high school all the way across the country in the small town of Owensboro, KY. My brother was caught smoking pot at school, I was Jennifer Jason Leigh's character, experimenting with the adult world. No, we didn't have an ocean close by but we had skateboards, and bicycles as transportation until we got a car. Kids have it harder in school now than they did back then. Good Times, fast times!

My art teacher always let us go across the street to get food if you offered to get him something. A lot of the time, when whoever was going to wherever would just ask everyone before class what they wanted and called in the order for the whole class. I am a terrible artist, but I loved my art classes the most! When I was a sophomore, I got to take the hottest senior girl to her prom because I sat next to her in art class. When I was a senior, I again got to go to prom with the hottest girl in my class because we sat next to each other in class, and we started dating. I always thought people who said their high school days were the best time in their life were idiots, but they really were some of the best times in your life!

The van seem inspired a lot of bad decisions. Eventually, you have to go home if you were in a van filled with pot smoke good luck, trying to deny what you had been doing that afternoon or evening even if you went for a long walk home when you walk in the door with your the chrome red eyeballs and a vacant-smile still. reeking Weed, you’re not going to be able to BS your way out of it you’re going to have a conversation with family members that you are not in any way shape or form prepared or capable of having Like it or not, you’re going to have that conversation with them about anything they want to discuss even though you’re having trouble putting sentences together in a coherent manner You just so desperately just want to get something to eat and go to your room and lay down And maybe get out your Walkman and listen to some tunes

You forgot “ righteous bucks”. I went to a beach area in High School Point Loma in San Diego about 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean. I graduated the same year Fas Times came out 1982. I knew about 20 Heff Spiccolli growing up. Sean Penn nailed it perfectly!! The sort of nasally voice cuz their sinuses are always full of salt water. The surfer dude accent and vocabulary gnarly, bitch in dude etc. Still makes me laugh. Fast times had 3 future BestcActor Oscar winners. Sean Penn2 times / Mystic River and Milk, Nicolas Cage was it Leaving Las Vegas??? And Forrest Whiteaker The Last King of Scotland. Some day Jennifer Jason Leigh will win one also!!! What the hell ever happened to Judge” Beverly Hills Cop” Rhein. Hold???
