Interesting that you're reviewing these while I am looking seriously at getting Buchardt Audio's new e50 speakers. Both Danish made. Both around the same price. Both with purifi woofers and very similar frequency specs. Very different cabinets, however, as the e50s are solid oak with a waveguide for the tweeter carved into the wood. Both sold direct to consumer with shipping and taxes included. Buchardt's free trial period is a little longer at 45 days. I'm wondering if a pair is on your way? One other thing. Both of these speakers seem very hard to drive with low sensitivity and a 4 ohm load. Yet you didn't seem to have any trouble with your relatively low-powered amplification
It really grates me that Buchardt make such a big deal of their 'free worldwide shipping, taxes included' which is not actually correct as the whole of Africa and many countries are actually excluded from this. Those statements on their website should be corrected as they are misleading. I am now considering these Radiants or the Arendals because they seem to actually ship worldwide all inclusive.
@@warrenferreira76 we can ship for free worldwide, but covering the import is not possible to all countries. This would be the same for radiant and Arendal as well, they just might not state it on the website, but would to customers individually. None of these companies have done this as long as we have, and you do learn that there are some countries where import is next to impossible for products like this, as in many of these places import cost is extremely expensive (40-150%) on top of the products sales price. So it's not like we do not want to cover these areas, we just can't do it as we would lose money selling there normally. Ushally we get in contact with customers here as we encourage people to reach out to us, and find a solution to how it can be solved. We do still sell speakers in many of the mentioned countries on the website.
Yeah but the Buchardt E50 you know? Take a look at a Technics SB-F3 or the rarer Realistic Minimus-11 and hook up the refurbished partnering amplifiers and you know? Compare them to Buchardt. Where do you think they got their inspiration?

Another thorough review of a product that, in the end, made you "happy." To me that's key, your system should make you happy. If you're not feelin' it, my advice is keep watching this guy, he's got a lot of it figured out already and enjoys surprises.
I have the speakers at home for one week and i ca also agree with most of your findings. It took me some days of testing of various positions to get them from rather lean to rather full sounding. Maybe they also benefit from a sort of breaking in (but Radiant stated in the user manual that they should sound right from the beginning). I had the Murano's some years ago and indeed they remind me a little to the Cabasse in terms of imaging and soundstage (even if such memories are rather deceptive) but clearly bass extension is a another story with the radiant, that's for sure.
i wonder how much of it is psychological like you weren't used to hearing it sound this way then you became accustomed. i am sure position changes and volume adjustment can greatly change the sound as well.
@@dontpanic1982 yes, you are probably right - i cannot avoid that over the time i get more used to the sound of the radiants which is really quite different of most of my other speakers i had in my room. So that is maybe only a virtual burn-in ;-) Positioning is a very important thing with this speakers....toeing in is e.g. not so beneficial. I have them approx- 40 cm from the front wall with only 5 degrees toed in. Soundstage was really huge with plenty of bass.
I've been an audiophile for 50 years and I've NEVER heard a component, cable, or power conditioner that didn't require a break-in period. Anyone who says that break-in is psychological has no clue what they're talking about. I recently bought a pair of Kanto ORA4 speakers and SP9 stands for my computer. Kanto also said they don't require any break-in. Well, they sounded like absolute garbage right out of the box - boomy distorted bass that masked any mid-range and the treble was non-existent. But after 30 hours of break-in, they sounded amazingly good for an inexpensive pair of powered speakers. One tip I can highly recommend to you is to buy an IsoTek Full System Enhancer CD. Run the 30 minute Full System Burn-In Demag (track 1) for 5 - 10 hours. Your jaw will drop when you hear your stereo afterwards. Then run the Weekly Enhance And Demag (track 2) weekly. And I'm guessing you already know that power conditioning makes all the difference in the world in a high-end system. I own an Audience aR2p-T4 power conditioner and it totally transformed my stereo. Also, if you listen to CDs, buy Audience's Auric Illuminator. It makes digital almost analog without adding any coloration.
I listened to them a few weeks ago. They are very good and insane for the price. Loved the clear sound but I thought the bass was a bit dry. Maybe a Hegel could force the bass in to compliance. Can't wait for a floor stander.
Looks like a great speaker. Another stand mount speaker I think you'd love is the PS Audio Aspen FR5 speakers. Have you heard them yet? I bet you'd love them and your followers would be interested to hear what you have to say about them. I have a pair and they are the best speaker I’ve owned. Perfect for my listening space.
@@dan-qe1tb I took a chance and bought them when they first came available. With PS Audio’s 30-day audition option I figured what would I have to loose. At the time I had a pair of the KEF R1 Metas yet in my space I could only space them apart about 5 feet. With the FR5s on taller stands I had more flexibility with speaker placement. I had multiple audiophile buddies come over to compare the FR5s to the R1 Metas. Seemed unfair to compare a $3500 pair of speakers to a pair of speakers retailing for $9000 yet after about 4 listening sessions everyone felt the KEFs although an amazing speaker they just weren’t reaching their full potential in my listening space thus the FR5s won the “speaker shootout” not by much but in the end the FR5s are exactly what I’ve been looking for. Of course there’s hundreds of speakers I’ve never heard that might be just as great for my listening space and musical tastes yet for $3500 ($4000 if you purchase the matching stands) the FR5s are keepers! You must know too that my most of my system is by PS Audio so there’s some good synergy going on with my system. Enjoy the music!
PS Audio Aspen FR5 is just a tricked out broadcast studio Realistic Minimus-7, they can't you know, do the modifications on a Minimus-7 the way it would be in a studio because it would look just like a crummy old Minimus-7. It wouldn't sell on appearances or prestige status, it never could but a similar sound.
@@razisn I'm saying that PS Audio Aspen FR5 are a copy of a Minimus-7, scaled up, using probably more detailed drivers. You know ribbon tweeters with a wave guide will beat the Minimus-7 silk dome with its later wave guide. I'm saying that Minimus-7 can be tricked out and sound better than just about any floor standing speaker system but only PS Audio and a few experts actually know it.
Love that DALI and Lyngdorf made this together. The 6.2 cost a little less than the Dali Epicon 2, would like to see a comparison between them. And then a comparison with the brand new Dali Epikore 3.
Steve, thanks for all the great work you do! You mentioned the clarity, dynamics, resolution these speakers have but any comments on the quality of the tone they produce?
I am interested in that as well, especially when trying to reproduce low frequencies. Passive radiators get into some curious phase issues down near resonance and below, which partly results in a sharper cut-off.
Another small speaker that puts out a lot of deep bass is the PS Audio Aspen FR5 and they come in at $1k less. I’d love to see you review those speakers. Thanks Steve.
Such a shame that you didn't have the Buchardt A10 to compare as they both have the purifi woofer and come in at around the same price. The bonus with the Buchardt is that they are active with built in amp, dsp and DAC. Plus they go down to 28hz. They on paper benefit of the Radiant Acoustics are that they will go louder.
@toddhupp Read up on the Purifi design philosophy and you will see the main reason for the clarity. Also, understand how important the sub-2500Hz range is to the fundamental sound of a speaker.

I want to go check out the 1969 CSNY release. One of my favorite recordings is Side 1 on the Grateful Dead’s Bears Choice. Also recorded in 1969 (or maybe early 1970) at the Filmore East. Bear Stanley was the audio engineer and I feel like he captured the scale of the room perfectly (despite me never having been there).
Steve, I love my DW6's, buuuuuut, you got me interested. I wonder what the dimensions of the "small" and of your room are. I'm oriented long-wise in a room that is 15' x 28' with my Zus and a Rel classic 98 hooked to my Unison Research Triode 25 Integrated Amp.

when does this end... when will speaker design/engineering come to an end? My 4 way upper mid hi fi 2007 jbl speakers are supper hifi compared to speakers in the 80's and early 90's? I have centre image and soundstage.. what more can a person want.

You would probably need a great Tube preamp with this speaker to be able to listen to a wide range of music. You should look into the Revival Atalante speakers some time. I think they are not on the American market yet, but they look and sound great and punch above their price point.
Legit question as I’m 45 and just tested my hearing. Have you tested your hearing Steve because age certainly has a massive effect on hearing ability from what science has to say. I def dig your perspective on speakers and have loved lots of your content so thank you for making it.
Philharmonic speakers also use purifi drivers and premium crossover components. Their tower HT version actually is a 2023 audioholics speaker of the year. Its usd 4500. From audioholics you know it measures well and this one does eq well. Cant compare though you need these side by side. Again nice review. Cheers.
More good work by the domesticated Vikings. Balance is so important. My Cabasse Murano speakers sound best with Belles mono amps and a Rogue RP5 hybrid tube preamp where I can slip in Mullards, Wathens, or PSVane tubes to tailor the sound and mitigate some of the hyper clarity of the Muranos. Everything in its own lane.
These speakers sounds pretty good, with a wide soundstage but lacks a bit on the deep soundstage and instrument placement. Futhermore it lacks a bit wildness and authentication in the vocals, both male and female. Last but not least i think it could be a better sounding speaker by using higher quality crossover parts, instead of those cheap caps and resistors, but it is still much better quality compared to most other speakers in the price range. Overall a great product that deserves a high quality amplifier to make them shine.
The price point is out of my consideration. I trust your review..and it looks like it is a solid construction. And they guarantee is marvelous. What would we do without Steve Guttenberg you always deliver on point review..its greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work !!!!!
Really good review. In terms of expectations. The radiants are something that I would build, except for the proprietary AMT Tweeter. Think Troels 6R w PR instead of port. Love that you compared them to the Zu even though the Zu is 1/2 the price. (It seems that some other reviewers don't give the Zu any love these days.) Also loved how you compared the amp pairings.
@@razisn The design isn't all that new. Look at Troel's Purifi 6R. The wave guide and AMT Tweeter for the Radiant is proprietary but there are other wave guides and Tweeter options. In terms of 'sandwich' of materials to make the cabinet... not really an issue. I was thinking if money was no object... Richlite since Panzerholtz is too expensive to get in US. There are also YT videos on certain epoxies that have some sonic properties as well. In terms of CNC also not out of the realm. There are maker spaces that have multiple CNC plus laser cutting too. Also not sure that I would follow their cabinet design. There are other options.
@@michaelsegel8758 So you wouldn't really build this speaker.. Different tweeter and different cabinet construction = a completely different speaker. Plus, if you really tried to copy the cabinet, one-off CNC job and all, it would probably cost you much more than buying the speaker..
@@razisn You would build something similar as best as you can. Its not that you want to copy it, but the point was to build out the Troels Purify-6R but using the two 6.5" PRs. Since you're using different Tweeters the passive XO would be different. Cabinet size would be roughly the same size and volume would be the same or similar based on the Purifi driver and your cabinet tuning. See Purifi's docs on size and how much weight to add to the PRs.
Nice shirt, and a lovely review! After having listened to these myself I agree with you on every point. The room placement can dramatically alter the bass response, and they are quite power hungry. These speakers can benefit a lot from room correction, which I did using RoomPerfect from the Lyngdorf TDAI 1120. The imaging and spaciousness of these speakers is just out of this world!
You have to remember that making this stuff in Denmark, where they pay a living wage is expensive. There's no way around that. And they are low production designs, which also makes them expensive. Of course if you have a better idea, how to make something like that for a fraction of the price, go for it!
Those woofers look like the surround is vinyl caulking applied by a five year old. Sorry, but for $4,500 I'd want something that sounds AND looks good, and the choices at that price point are vast. I will stick to my Zu Audio DW6 which are way more affordable and sound great.
This the Purify driver special surround to allow very long throw to the drivers. It is what it is, if it weren't like this it wouldn't work like that..

@@chrislj2890 The funky surrounds address position-dependent effective area deviation, ... which generates distortion. In essence, the inward stroke increases cone size, the outward stroke decreases size. Plus, distortion causing bell modes are diminished by the ring design. These Purifi woofers are absolutely state of the art, low distortion, high linear output drivers. iirc, they range from 4" to 10" The surround is only one drive unit element that's been optimized. Funky aesthetics or not, no drivers possess the capability that these Purifi possess. About a decade ago a handful of the brightest audio veterans joined forces and created Purifi. They revolutionized Class D amplification. They're revolutionizing small woofer design as well. edit, fwiw, Steve's discussed these woofers in previous videos.
@@chrislj2890Buchardt uses them in the Anniversary 10 active speaker and the yet to be released E50. There are a few others. These are expensive drivers. Most manufacturers won’t use them for that fact. Most people who hear them are impressed how they can play loud, deep, and accurate with lower distortion than other speakers of similar size. The crazy folded surround is partly why. One possible drawback is lower sensitivity

But I cannot help, I cannot help, being really CREEPED OUT by the woofer surrounds!! Please! Surely this is totally unnecessary and only adds to the cost of such a fine speaker! Great review Steve. I very nearly went for these but have decided to wait for the Buchardt E50's. Hopefully I have made the right decision and you will get to review these at some point too.
Probably not, the crossover frequency will be to high for an eight inch woofer. It may play out to 2500 hertz just fine , but the eight driver will certainly have a narrower off axis frequency response well before the the crossover point. That will mess up the sound stage and imaging qualities that were described in this review. It really would need a midrange driver to achieve the same characteristics. That being said: it would give the designer an option to raise the crossover frequency of the midrange and tweeter . That could be a simpler crossover. Likewise the same could probably done at a lower crossover frequency for the woofer to mid-range. Certainly a wider baffle will also play into the design considerations too along with a larger cabinet. On other words it would be a totally different speaker. It would also be significantly more expensive in the end. These with good bass management and a subwoofer or two will certainly get the low end extension into the 25 hertz range and still be less expensive with no change in the sound stage. Another benefit with a sub and limiting the bottom end for these would also show up as the volume knob goes up and they aren't working so hard in the deep bass region trying to extend the bottom end past what they are capable of. This would be an easy sub set up because the sub crossover could be fairly low, but just high enough to take a load off the 165 mm bass driver in these.
Indeed, many good points. It's worth noting that the Achilles Heel of these folded ribbon AMT platforms is the modest extension in the lower range of the HF driver. AMT drive units beam, and oftentimes don't extend as low in freq as other driver platforms. - Beaming is addressed via the waveguide. - The limited range of the AMT is addressed via the 6.5" woofer's size. So, increasing the LF driver size up to 8" can certainly facilitate 50% more LF capability. However, the additional piston diameter initiates beaming ~23% lower in freq. Thus, necessitating a redesign of the HF waveguide.
Not sure I understand the comparisons, other than they are just what you had on hand? Both comparison speakers cost half of the Radiant Clarity. Price is not always a tell for quality, but still this seems like an unfair comparison.
Hey, I have no choice but to use only the speakers I have on hand. It is hugely unfair to expect other speaker companies to spend possibly hundreds of dollars for shipping to me and back for their speakers, just for a comparison. That's not the way this review business works.
@ Fair enough. Just curious, are those two sets of speakers your “go to’s”, meaning regardless of what you get in, you just really enjoy having the Zu’s and Buchardt’s around to listen to? If so, I find it really interesting. The Zu’s especially have been “panned” by certain other RUclipsrs, but specs aren’t everything. I bought a pair of speakers positively reviewed by many YTer’s, but I really thought they were “meh” in my environment. It is one of those things that makes this hobby interesting and occasionally very entertaining!😄
too expensive for what they are IMO. if im spending thousands it better have an extremely well built and engineered cabinet that enhances the sound rather than just being a tiny box. those cones better be made of platinum or something.
As a general rule, any design which aims for particularly exceptional performance in one or two categories, in this case clarity and deep tight bass, will of necessity perform to a notably less degree in one or more other categories. the zu dirty weekend is an objectively crap speaker, please see the measurements and fundamental design flaws by watching gr research and maybe erins audio corner's video on them. they're trash.
Flat frequency response is only one ingredient in the making of a speaker. Dynamics, low distortion, extended bass, wide dispersion etc. are all objective measures which has nothing to do with flat response. Additionally the in room response may be flatter in a non-flat speaker than with a flat response speaker for the majority of users. So trash is harsh, especially from someone who states things of which he isn't sure. There are numerous high-end loudspeaker manufacturers whose philosophy is that flat response is not desirable for a musical speaker. I enjoy Danny's channel and agree with almost everything he does but I'm not too rigid on the flat response thing. It depends on what type of music one listens to and what kind of listener one is.
Although I'd partially agree with Artcore that the Zus are not very good I would also agree with Carlos that a flat frequency response is not the be all and end all that it is often made out to be. The human ear is more sensitive to errors in the time domain than it is to errors in the amplitude domain. Danny of GR Research does some fantastic work. He does show waterfall plots and talk about keeping the drivers in phase at the crossover frequency. Both of these are very important in the time domain. It would be nice if he also included step responses and phase responses as these show a lot of information that is lacking.

Are you shopping? You're gonna actually buy these things? I suggest you go to other reviewers that give you the price in the first second, or better yet start your own RUclips channel and do that.
The comparisons are rather disappointing, you need to stay with within the character family, studio monitors, Genelecs etc. otherwise you are too far off target and its just an other meaningless rant. PS Sensitivity: 85 dB @ 2,83 is terrible, you failed to disclose that.
This is not a studio monitor. You seem confused. Why would you think comparing it to an active, DSP'd ugly studio monitor designed for near-field use, would be more appropriate beats me. Sensitivity is as it would be expected to be for a small passive speaker with very good bass extension. Higher sensitivity would mean either less bass or larger size.. Physics is physics. Do you buy hifi equipment based solely on reviews without looking at the specs yourself? Specs are on their website for everyone to peruse, I don't need Steve or any one else to recite them for me, I'm not that lazy.
@@keplermission Well I can drive my 85db ProAc speakers with my 25wpc Musical Fidelity A1 very fine thank you. So can I with my 230wpc amp. Tell me again what exactly is misleading. Any modern hifi amp apart from flee-watt SETs will drive a 85db stand mount speaker up to the level it is designed to go. Plus, power is cheap, we don't live in the first half of the 20th century anymore if you haven't noticed? Plus, nobody would buy these speakers to drive them with a cheap current deficient anaemic AVR..
Can We (you?) give us a example of a similar speaker with same soundstage, clarity, depth, size and quality, then I’m all in for a review. For me the Buchardt seems closest.

It really grates me that Buchardt make such a big deal of their 'free worldwide shipping, taxes included' which is not actually correct as the whole of Africa and many countries are actually excluded from this. Those statements on their website should be corrected as they are misleading.
I am now considering these Radiants or the Arendals because they seem to actually ship worldwide all inclusive.
@@warrenferreira76 we can ship for free worldwide, but covering the import is not possible to all countries. This would be the same for radiant and Arendal as well, they just might not state it on the website, but would to customers individually. None of these companies have done this as long as we have, and you do learn that there are some countries where import is next to impossible for products like this, as in many of these places import cost is extremely expensive (40-150%) on top of the products sales price. So it's not like we do not want to cover these areas, we just can't do it as we would lose money selling there normally. Ushally we get in contact with customers here as we encourage people to reach out to us, and find a solution to how it can be solved. We do still sell speakers in many of the mentioned countries on the website.
Yeah but the Buchardt E50 you know? Take a look at a Technics SB-F3 or the rarer Realistic Minimus-11 and hook up the refurbished partnering amplifiers and you know? Compare them to Buchardt. Where do you think they got their inspiration?

Another thorough review of a product that, in the end, made you "happy." To me that's key, your system should make you happy. If you're not feelin' it, my advice is keep watching this guy, he's got a lot of it figured out already and enjoys surprises.
I have the speakers at home for one week and i ca also agree with most of your findings. It took me some days of testing of various positions to get them from rather lean to rather full sounding. Maybe they also benefit from a sort of breaking in (but Radiant stated in the user manual that they should sound right from the beginning). I had the Murano's some years ago and indeed they remind me a little to the Cabasse in terms of imaging and soundstage (even if such memories are rather deceptive) but clearly bass extension is a another story with the radiant, that's for sure.
i wonder how much of it is psychological like you weren't used to hearing it sound this way then you became accustomed. i am sure position changes and volume adjustment can greatly change the sound as well.
@@dontpanic1982 yes, you are probably right - i cannot avoid that over the time i get more used to the sound of the radiants which is really quite different of most of my other speakers i had in my room. So that is maybe only a virtual burn-in ;-) Positioning is a very important thing with this speakers....toeing in is e.g. not so beneficial. I have them approx- 40 cm from the front wall with only 5 degrees toed in. Soundstage was really huge with plenty of bass.
I've been an audiophile for 50 years and I've NEVER heard a component, cable, or power conditioner that didn't require a break-in period. Anyone who says that break-in is psychological has no clue what they're talking about.
I recently bought a pair of Kanto ORA4 speakers and SP9 stands for my computer. Kanto also said they don't require any break-in. Well, they sounded like absolute garbage right out of the box - boomy distorted bass that masked any mid-range and the treble was non-existent. But after 30 hours of break-in, they sounded amazingly good for an inexpensive pair of powered speakers.
One tip I can highly recommend to you is to buy an IsoTek Full System Enhancer CD. Run the 30 minute Full System Burn-In Demag (track 1) for 5 - 10 hours. Your jaw will drop when you hear your stereo afterwards. Then run the Weekly Enhance And Demag (track 2) weekly.
And I'm guessing you already know that power conditioning makes all the difference in the world in a high-end system. I own an Audience aR2p-T4 power conditioner and it totally transformed my stereo. Also, if you listen to CDs, buy Audience's Auric Illuminator. It makes digital almost analog without adding any coloration.
I listened to them a few weeks ago. They are very good and insane for the price. Loved the clear sound but I thought the bass was a bit dry. Maybe a Hegel could force the bass in to compliance. Can't wait for a floor stander.

@@dan-qe1tb I took a chance and bought them when they first came available. With PS Audio’s 30-day audition option I figured what would I have to loose. At the time I had a pair of the KEF R1 Metas yet in my space I could only space them apart about 5 feet. With the FR5s on taller stands I had more flexibility with speaker placement. I had multiple audiophile buddies come over to compare the FR5s to the R1 Metas. Seemed unfair to compare a $3500 pair of speakers to a pair of speakers retailing for $9000 yet after about 4 listening sessions everyone felt the KEFs although an amazing speaker they just weren’t reaching their full potential in my listening space thus the FR5s won the “speaker shootout” not by much but in the end the FR5s are exactly what I’ve been looking for. Of course there’s hundreds of speakers I’ve never heard that might be just as great for my listening space and musical tastes yet for $3500 ($4000 if you purchase the matching stands) the FR5s are keepers! You must know too that my most of my system is by PS Audio so there’s some good synergy going on with my system. Enjoy the music!
PS Audio Aspen FR5 is just a tricked out broadcast studio Realistic Minimus-7, they can't you know, do the modifications on a Minimus-7 the way it would be in a studio because it would look just like a crummy old Minimus-7. It wouldn't sell on appearances or prestige status, it never could but a similar sound.

@@razisn I'm saying that PS Audio Aspen FR5 are a copy of a Minimus-7, scaled up, using probably more detailed drivers. You know ribbon tweeters with a wave guide will beat the Minimus-7 silk dome with its later wave guide. I'm saying that Minimus-7 can be tricked out and sound better than just about any floor standing speaker system but only PS Audio and a few experts actually know it.
Love that DALI and Lyngdorf made this together. The 6.2 cost a little less than the Dali Epicon 2, would like to see a comparison between them. And then a comparison with the brand new Dali Epikore 3.

I am interested in that as well, especially when trying to reproduce low frequencies. Passive radiators get into some curious phase issues down near resonance and below, which partly results in a sharper cut-off.
How does the clarity six point two compare to cabasse murano.

I run my 6.2’s on Luxman 507z. Just amazing in all respects. My room is a 15 x15, so not terribly big.

Such a shame that you didn't have the Buchardt A10 to compare as they both have the purifi woofer and come in at around the same price. The bonus with the Buchardt is that they are active with built in amp, dsp and DAC. Plus they go down to 28hz. They on paper benefit of the Radiant Acoustics are that they will go louder.

Read up on the Purifi design philosophy and you will see the main reason for the clarity. Also, understand how important the sub-2500Hz range is to the fundamental sound of a speaker.

What about the Zu Union Supreme 6? These cost about the same as the Radiant Clarity 6.2.
I want to go check out the 1969 CSNY release. One of my favorite recordings is Side 1 on the Grateful Dead’s Bears Choice. Also recorded in 1969 (or maybe early 1970) at the Filmore East. Bear Stanley was the audio engineer and I feel like he captured the scale of the room perfectly (despite me never having been there).

Steve, I love my DW6's, buuuuuut, you got me interested. I wonder what the dimensions of the "small" and of your room are. I'm oriented long-wise in a room that is 15' x 28' with my Zus and a Rel classic 98 hooked to my Unison Research Triode 25 Integrated Amp.

when does this end... when will speaker design/engineering come to an end? My 4 way upper mid hi fi 2007 jbl speakers are supper hifi compared to speakers in the 80's and early 90's? I have centre image and soundstage.. what more can a person want.

You would probably need a great Tube preamp with this speaker to be able to listen to a wide range of music. You should look into the Revival Atalante speakers some time. I think they are not on the American market yet, but they look and sound great and punch above their price point.
Legit question as I’m 45 and just tested my hearing. Have you tested your hearing Steve because age certainly has a massive effect on hearing ability from what science has to say. I def dig your perspective on speakers and have loved lots of your content so thank you for making it.

Philharmonic speakers also use purifi drivers and premium crossover components. Their tower HT version actually is a 2023 audioholics speaker of the year. Its usd 4500. From audioholics you know it measures well and this one does eq well. Cant compare though you need these side by side. Again nice review. Cheers.
More good work by the domesticated Vikings. Balance is so important. My Cabasse Murano speakers sound best with Belles mono amps and a Rogue RP5 hybrid tube preamp where I can slip in Mullards, Wathens, or PSVane tubes to tailor the sound and mitigate some of the hyper clarity of the Muranos. Everything in its own lane.

These speakers sounds pretty good, with a wide soundstage but lacks a bit on the deep soundstage and instrument placement. Futhermore it lacks a bit wildness and authentication in the vocals, both male and female. Last but not least i think it could be a better sounding speaker by using higher quality crossover parts, instead of those cheap caps and resistors, but it is still much better quality compared to most other speakers in the price range.
Overall a great product that deserves a high quality amplifier to make them shine.

The design isn't all that new. Look at Troel's Purifi 6R. The wave guide and AMT Tweeter for the Radiant is proprietary but there are other wave guides and Tweeter options.
In terms of 'sandwich' of materials to make the cabinet... not really an issue. I was thinking if money was no object... Richlite
since Panzerholtz is too expensive to get in US. There are also YT videos on certain epoxies that have some sonic properties as well.
In terms of CNC also not out of the realm. There are maker spaces that have multiple CNC plus laser cutting too.
Also not sure that I would follow their cabinet design. There are other options.
@@michaelsegel8758 So you wouldn't really build this speaker.. Different tweeter and different cabinet construction = a completely different speaker. Plus, if you really tried to copy the cabinet, one-off CNC job and all, it would probably cost you much more than buying the speaker..

You would build something similar as best as you can.
Its not that you want to copy it, but the point was to build out the Troels Purify-6R but using the two 6.5" PRs.
Since you're using different Tweeters the passive XO would be different. Cabinet size would be roughly the same size and volume would be the same or similar based on the Purifi driver and your cabinet tuning. See Purifi's docs on size and how much weight to add to the PRs.
Nice shirt, and a lovely review! After having listened to these myself I agree with you on every point. The room placement can dramatically alter the bass response, and they are quite power hungry. These speakers can benefit a lot from room correction, which I did using RoomPerfect from the Lyngdorf TDAI 1120. The imaging and spaciousness of these speakers is just out of this world!

You have to remember that making this stuff in Denmark, where they pay a living wage is expensive. There's no way around that. And they are low production designs, which also makes them expensive. Of course if you have a better idea, how to make something like that for a fraction of the price, go for it!
Those woofers look like the surround is vinyl caulking applied by a five year old. Sorry, but for $4,500 I'd want something that sounds AND looks good, and the choices at that price point are vast. I will stick to my Zu Audio DW6 which are way more affordable and sound great.
This the Purify driver special surround to allow very long throw to the drivers. It is what it is, if it weren't like this it wouldn't work like that..

The funky surrounds address position-dependent effective area deviation, ... which generates distortion.
In essence, the inward stroke increases cone size, the outward stroke decreases size.
Plus, distortion causing bell modes are diminished by the ring design.
These Purifi woofers are absolutely state of the art, low distortion, high linear output drivers.
iirc, they range from 4" to 10"
The surround is only one drive unit element that's been optimized.
Funky aesthetics or not, no drivers possess the capability that these Purifi possess.
About a decade ago a handful of the brightest audio veterans joined forces and created Purifi.
They revolutionized Class D amplification.
They're revolutionizing small woofer design as well.
edit, fwiw, Steve's discussed these woofers in previous videos.

Most manufacturers won’t use them for that fact. Most people who hear them are impressed how they can play loud, deep, and accurate with lower distortion than other speakers of similar size. The crazy folded surround is partly why. One possible drawback is lower sensitivity

It would be a completely different speaker in all respects, physical and acoustical..
Probably not, the crossover frequency will be to high for an eight inch woofer. It may play out to 2500 hertz just fine , but the eight driver will certainly have a narrower off axis frequency response well before the the crossover point. That will mess up the sound stage and imaging qualities that were described in this review. It really would need a midrange driver to achieve the same characteristics. That being said: it would give the designer an option to raise the crossover frequency of the midrange and tweeter . That could be a simpler crossover. Likewise the same could probably done at a lower crossover frequency for the woofer to mid-range. Certainly a wider baffle will also play into the design considerations too along with a larger cabinet. On other words it would be a totally different speaker. It would also be significantly more expensive in the end.
These with good bass management and a subwoofer or two will certainly get the low end extension into the 25 hertz range and still be less expensive with no change in the sound stage. Another benefit with a sub and limiting the bottom end for these would also show up as the volume knob goes up and they aren't working so hard in the deep bass region trying to extend the bottom end past what they are capable of. This would be an easy sub set up because the sub crossover could be fairly low, but just high enough to take a load off the 165 mm bass driver in these.

It's worth noting that the Achilles Heel of these folded ribbon AMT platforms is the modest extension in the lower range of the HF driver.
AMT drive units beam, and oftentimes don't extend as low in freq as other driver platforms.
- Beaming is addressed via the waveguide.
- The limited range of the AMT is addressed via the 6.5" woofer's size.
So, increasing the LF driver size up to 8" can certainly facilitate 50% more LF capability.
However, the additional piston diameter initiates beaming ~23% lower in freq. Thus, necessitating a redesign of the HF waveguide.
8 inch has more bass but loses middle frequency dispersion and power.
Not sure I understand the comparisons, other than they are just what you had on hand? Both comparison speakers cost half of the Radiant Clarity. Price is not always a tell for quality, but still this seems like an unfair comparison.
Hey, I have no choice but to use only the speakers I have on hand. It is hugely unfair to expect other speaker companies to spend possibly hundreds of dollars for shipping to me and back for their speakers, just for a comparison. That's not the way this review business works.
@ Fair enough. Just curious, are those two sets of speakers your “go to’s”, meaning regardless of what you get in, you just really enjoy having the Zu’s and Buchardt’s around to listen to? If so, I find it really interesting. The Zu’s especially have been “panned” by certain other RUclipsrs, but specs aren’t everything. I bought a pair of speakers positively reviewed by many YTer’s, but I really thought they were “meh” in my environment. It is one of those things that makes this hobby interesting and occasionally very entertaining!😄

As a general rule, any design which aims for particularly exceptional performance in one or two categories, in this case clarity and deep tight bass, will of necessity perform to a notably less degree in one or more other categories. Nature doesn't offer hyper-realism.

the zu dirty weekend is an objectively crap speaker, please see the measurements and fundamental design flaws by watching gr research and maybe erins audio corner's video on them. they're trash.

Flat frequency response is only one ingredient in the making of a speaker. Dynamics, low distortion, extended bass, wide dispersion etc. are all objective measures which has nothing to do with flat response. Additionally the in room response may be flatter in a non-flat speaker than with a flat response speaker for the majority of users. So trash is harsh, especially from someone who states things of which he isn't sure.
There are numerous high-end loudspeaker manufacturers whose philosophy is that flat response is not desirable for a musical speaker.
I enjoy Danny's channel and agree with almost everything he does but I'm not too rigid on the flat response thing. It depends on what type of music one listens to and what kind of listener one is.
Although I'd partially agree with Artcore that the Zus are not very good I would also agree with Carlos that a flat frequency response is not the be all and end all that it is often made out to be.
The human ear is more sensitive to errors in the time domain than it is to errors in the amplitude domain.
Danny of GR Research does some fantastic work. He does show waterfall plots and talk about keeping the drivers in phase at the crossover frequency. Both of these are very important in the time domain. It would be nice if he also included step responses and phase responses as these show a lot of information that is lacking.

The comparisons are rather disappointing, you need to stay with within the character family, studio monitors, Genelecs etc. otherwise you are too far off target and its just an other meaningless rant. PS Sensitivity: 85 dB @ 2,83 is terrible, you failed to disclose that.
This is not a studio monitor. You seem confused. Why would you think comparing it to an active, DSP'd ugly studio monitor designed for near-field use, would be more appropriate beats me. Sensitivity is as it would be expected to be for a small passive speaker with very good bass extension. Higher sensitivity would mean either less bass or larger size.. Physics is physics. Do you buy hifi equipment based solely on reviews without looking at the specs yourself? Specs are on their website for everyone to peruse, I don't need Steve or any one else to recite them for me, I'm not that lazy.

@@keplermission Well I can drive my 85db ProAc speakers with my 25wpc Musical Fidelity A1 very fine thank you. So can I with my 230wpc amp. Tell me again what exactly is misleading. Any modern hifi amp apart from flee-watt SETs will drive a 85db stand mount speaker up to the level it is designed to go. Plus, power is cheap, we don't live in the first half of the 20th century anymore if you haven't noticed? Plus, nobody would buy these speakers to drive them with a cheap current deficient anaemic AVR..

Can We (you?) give us a example of a similar speaker with same soundstage, clarity, depth, size and quality, then I’m all in for a review. For me the Buchardt seems closest.
