She’s not lying. I grow an inch a month. I keep my hair in cornrows 3-4 months. Wash my hair once a month and deep condition while in braids. Everyday I put some type nourishing serum in my hair. I mix different things that are natural but I also use minoxidil. When I am ready to take my hair out I saturate it with oil glycerin and aloe Vera. No breakage. I wash and deep condition in twists and it gets re- braided. I do inverted scalp massages. My hair is so long and thick and at 42 yo my hair has never been like this
Did exactly this with single twists/ braids repeatedly a few years ago, hair grew, was healthy and thriving! My lazy self loves this... low/no manipulation.
I want to do this but I go to a PWI🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ I’ve been wrapping my hair for a while now and I just want to leave my hair in braids while I have my hair wrapped but I always feared that if I do that, my braids would be poking out.
@@wherethequietbeingsgoI went to a pwi 3 years ago and that’s when I finally felt “free” enough to just wear twist every day, I retained a lot of length. You’re paying to be there, you should be able to wear your hair however(if that’s what you’re afraid of)
@wherethequietbeingsgo I hope you feel better in knowing most people at a PWI don't know what it's supposed to look like in the first place.😂😂 i would have my braid in for ways longer than I should've
I will definitely be trying this! I'm already planning on stretching my 2 week old twists to one month! Please which protein treatment would you recommend for someone with fine, low porosity hair?
She giving yall the secrets better listen up. I'm waist length too & this is what I do. I wear passion twists or braids for 3 months at a time & wash my hair in those protective styles 1x per month , re-twist or re-braid only the front visible row & keep rocking them. Do a complete takedown at the end of those 3 months and immediately put the style back in & do it again.
@@MahoganieBeautie It's always dry after takedown b/c of the edge control / harder products built up ( for me anyway ) so before installing the style you can just moisturize your hair w/ leave in conditioner & after take down pre-poo BEFORE washing it as to NOT have over excessive hair shed.
KEY TO HAIR RETENTION LITTLE MANIPULATION (handle hair loose 4× a year) 1. Wash, Condition, Protein treatment, Moisturise, Stretch and Braid. 2. Keep scalp and hair clean and moisturise (weekly) 3. Wash hair and treatment in bread for month 1 to 2. 4. Month 3 take out the braids and repeat step 1.
The picture of your hair blown out has been on my vision board for over a year. I just found your channel a few weeks ago. I'm so excited for my hair growth journey!
Years ago, I've done the cornrows as a protective style left in for 3 months at a time and washed and conditioned my hair with the cornrows in. I used Softee aloe vera curl activator as my "moisturizer." I did this for 6 months during the spring and summer months when hair grows the fastest. I wore wigs during that time. My hair grew long. (It's now at almost tailbone length after clipping the ends, and I have my hair tucked away in 4 platts.). Thanks for sharing, CD🎉
I have done this with box braids and extensions. I moisturize every other day, massage my scalp, and wash my hair every week or every two weeks. I took my braids out every three months. You are right your hair will grow with less manipulation.
LISTEN UP LADIES ‼️‼️ she absolutely correct and im a 53 year old natural beauty ‼️ I've been doing this routine for years abd its by fat the BEST routine with my long natural hair even in my 50s my hair is still lomg healthy and strong ‼️ I'm a lazy natural so cornrows + wigs = long natural healthy hair‼️‼️
I call you a hair guru. Your work, and that of other naturals, is primordial in restoring the beauty and the confidence of Black women. May your and all other natural hair channels thrive and go viral! THANK YOU 💖💖😎
Why didn't I hear this sooner Am really impressed I'll start doing this Thanks dear for sharing No one has ever really said how to grow natural hair the way you are saying
Me too! And it will work on relaxed hair also. I only perm 3x a year for 38yrs, since 14yo. I'll be 52 this month. My hair is in 2braids/2plaits or a low bun 95% of the time. I'm already waist length but I want my fullness back that I lost from when I stopped eating meat for 6yrs and lost WAAYY TOO MUCH PROTEIN😢. Now I eat turkey and chicken again🥰👏. God bless
@@zodidimhlana5978you finger detangle with the glycerin and oil, SLOWLY and PATIENTLY 🙏. Its amazing and you will save much hair. Also incorporate Amla and Fenugreek, rosemary, cloves to your oil, I have waay less breakage now. Watch Jen and Jess African twins w long hair yt channel(they have a GREAT oil video ) that I copied 😊and Curly proverbs she explains the benefits of Amla and fenugreek 🙏 and shows pics of her before and after growth is Amazing🙏
How can you wash your hair in cornrows if your hair is relaxed? I have to pull out my cornrows and wash my hair. I do everything she says already. I'm just curious as also being relaxed how you guys wash your hair in cornrows. N.b. this is cornrows with your natural hair not cornrows with braided her that I can do no problem.
Thank you for this. Been natural for over a decade. Been told that natural hair is “so versatile” and there’s “so much you can do!!” Which yes is true… But what those people don’t mention is by doing the most and changing your hair all the time, that is all a lot of manipulation. I have high shrinkage, very tightly coiled 4C hair. Constant manipulation just doesn’t lead to hair growth for me. Even if I’m using good products. My hair will tangle more and break. These days I am doing a similar routine. I don’t know how to cornrow but I put my hair in small braids. I undo the braids to wash and condition once a month. I then blow dry using my Revair and then I immediately moisturize and rebraid. My hair is kept in these braids until the next wash day. And I have been wearing wigs to cover them. After several months of this, it has decreased tangling and lead to much more length retention. It does indeed feel like a sacrifice. When I first went natural I fell in love with all the different styles you can do and the look of fros. But over a decade later I still do not have long hair, which frustrates me. I’ve come to realize that I simply don’t like how short hair looks on me.😭And I’m TIRED of settling for short hair. I want my hair to grow. I want long hair!!! I have NEVER had long hair before in my life, even as a kid. Even when relaxed. It has ALWAYS been short. So yes, having long hair would mean a lot. And I’m facing the reality that in order for my hair to grow, I have to essentially leave it alone majority of the time. No playing around with twist outs and braid outs every week. There’s just no way around that. I have to make the sacrifice. My hair is too delicate to thrive otherwise.
Yesss! Thank you sis🥳👏. Thanks for the inspiration! I'm a low maintenance kind of girl. I’ve experienced “accidental growth” leaving in box braids and keeping cornrows under wigs”. After hearing your journey/routine, I’m ready to start my tailbone length journey today! Let’s Go!😊👏
I tried it. I'm mid back passed bracstap now. I also stopped dying my hair. Two things happened. I'm a grayish white blond now. But it's long. I love it.
This makes sense! I grew my hair bra length like the mid of my hair and the retouched damaged it! I am starting all over again and would use this strategy! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm just here for vibes ✨️😌 I think my goal for this year is moisture and less breakage. Once I figure out a good routine for myself, then i'll think about my journey to long, luscious locs ☺️ Keeping this advice in my arsenal, though. Loving the videos, keep them coming 💛🌻
I agree with everything you say except washing hair in cornrow. The residue will be accumulating under the cornrow which might cause scalp issue. I also think the density of the hair matters.
Hair expands when being washed. What are you putting in your hair that has residue? Sounds strange. I always wash my hair in yarn braids and it gets properly cleaned. I let it dry in the yarn so it is stretched before I can attend to it.
@@LovelySecretOXOX wait a minute! We are talking about washing hair in cornrows ma’am or sir and we are not definitely talking about hair growth. You completely miss the point.

Great info. I love watching your channel for the awesome tips. As a matter of fact, 8 weeks ago I started your aggressive length challenge. It went pretty well with my own hair in big plaits. However, beginning this week I'm trying to go 12 weeks this time.
I really enjoy your videos, very knowledgeable, thanks for sharing, I just wanted to add your info is spot on, I did almost every thing you mentioned in your video, my natural hair journey started November 2020 today I am 3 inches shy of tail bone length, good luck to everyone on their hair journey.
Usually don't comment but I found you on Jan. 8th and my hair has been flourishing 🙌 In this busy last few years I've neglected my hair so much, keeping in small knotless braids and sew ins and never really taking care of my hair underneath. Rough stylists thinned out my hair and edges while I was growing out the texturizer I put in my hair from 2022 (thankfully those straight ends are all gone now) Needless to say, you're the first person I found with this simple routine to bring my hair back to health by leaving it alone and learning how to properly moisturize. Now I keep coming back for these reminders and to stay motivated on this journey. I've been keeping flat twists under wigs but I've taken them down at least once a week because I'm just so happy to see my hair in better shape 😅 Goal is trying to keep cornrows in for the whole month of February! Thank you so much for putting out these messages.
We are 1month gone 🎉🎉🎉i started mine on 28th dec made my medium braids an they are now looking old 😂😂😂 but no problem they must make the 3months by force by fire😂😂😂
Facts🏆 Very true information. I went natural in 2011 and my stylist said when it comes to natural hair, “Less is Best”. I kept my styles simple and maintained mid-back length. For a year now, I’ve only done the most lazy twists and my hair is now waist length. This video is very accurate. Thanks for sharing! 🫶🏾
This is true people. I did something similarly to this and retained so much length in 2 years. PS I have a relaxed hair. My hair was just below my shoulder but now at the middle of my back. Thank you lady for telling the truth😊 Edited for spelling mistakes
1st Wash, dc, protein tx. 2. Cornrows/3strand braids, wig, 3.moisturize every wk, massage to get blood flow to scalp 4. each month wash/dc/protein. 5. 3rd month unloose cornrows & wash it.
I maintain my daughter’s hair…and I do the VERY least with it. Her hair is all the way down her back and she’s 7. Regrowing my own hair now after a big chop following locs. Can’t wait to catch up to her. 😊
i dont wash until the end of month 3. but i think i would grow more if i did because that a good source of hydration and my hair craves hydration and sealing.
However: your scalp needs to be healthy to be able to grow and maintain your hair. Not washing it can cause it to not be healthy. So be careful, watch out for your scalp. Wash if you need to. Washing is less bad than your scalp being messed up. I lived through the "no poo" (no shampoo) bs of the raw vegan girlies. My scalp absolutely needs washing at the very least every 2 weeks, but usually 1 week depending on what I've been up to. And that's okay.
You are speaking the truth!!!!!!!!!! The stylist i went to couldn't necessarily tell me how to grow my hair, but i had already been growing my hair through protective styles i just lacked a hydration and moisturizing routine so would get split ends. I love that you are so knowladgeable and actually went through with it so you can share the info. Love that!!!!!!!!!!!! but once you want to wear it loose make sure their is a hydration and moisturizer, wash day, and gentle detangling going in.
I’m on year 3 after chopping it ALL off and I’ve been wearing wigs the whole 3 years with some different style whenever I get tired of wigs. I’m at bra length right now. I wash, moisturize, oil then braid right back up monthly. I used heat maybe twice a year. Only thing, I don’t handle my hair as gently as I should. My length in just 3 years has surpassed others that’s been trying to grow theirs for years. It’s truth to what she’s saying.
I think this was how i grew my hair out. I recently chopped it and i want to grow it again. I was feeling overwhelmed until this video. I couldnt remember anything about the growing process. Thank you!
I kinda have the same routine. Difference being I have my wash day then put my hair in minibraids for two months. I picked minibraids because with them I can more easily access my scalp and "more" of my hair. I rinse my scalp weekly with an ACV rinse and then apply oil on it, because I used to have a dry scalp, and this has helped me a lot with this issue. I moisturize my hair when needed throughout the week. I started this routine back in October 2023 with armpit-length hair and my hair is already brastrap! It's insane even when I think about it. I plan to keep this routine till dcember 2026, when reaching waist length.
I started my first week in mini braids, not too mini...thinking of the take down. Really loving this low manipulation hair style, better than the twists that I would touch up more frequently. Mmmm not a cornrows fan...
I was getting really sad wearing my twists/braids in these not so pretty styles for 3 months (washing my hair in the same style too to avoid detangle) . I only felt prettyish covering the frizz with a scarf. But once I took it all down I could NOT BELIEVE the thickness I had and felt in love with my hair all over again. I realized I just need to have more variety so now I opped for wearing glueless wigs with a scarf to cover the lace. I feel so much better. Knotless braids are so pretty but I tried that route. It's expensive you can't trust somebody else detangling your hair gently (my mistake I lost so much density) yes I did straighten before going the next times I went but I realized the weight from the synthetic hair that braided into my scalp was causing issues for my lifestyle.
@@CoilyDiariesgirl my hair grew almost 1 inch over the first month. I will have to undo, wash my hair and re-braid it tomorrow. Your method along with the JBCO I got straight out of Kingston, Jamaica 🇯🇲
I love your videos! I just started watching you early January. And I had my hair in cornrows this whole month! I’m going to try all of February as well and hopefully I can make it to the third month. I’ve been wearing the headband wigs to switch it up too!! Good luck to those who are on this waist length journey too and I hope y’all stay consistent 😊🎉❤
Thank you girl, i jave never come accross an elaborative routine for rentention like this one and since i was about to start doing cornrows for retention thi video is so helpful, again thanks ablot girl and be blessed❤
I’m going to try this but with natural hair braids. I will take down my style every month to wash. I cannot wash my hair in the style because it causes tangles. This is a great base routine it can be flexible for everyone. Great advice cozily diaries ❤
Currently doing doing this on my twa with mini braids. I workout and sweat quite a lot so I need to wash my scalp at least every 2 weeks. Love the tips and you moisturiser retention tips are 💯% on point ❤
I'm 3 weeks into this routine using small plaits/medium braids because I need maximum scalp access, whew! One thing I noticed during the wash before starting that really helps minimize breakage is WEARING GLOVES! Smoothest wash day I've ever experienced So glad i found this vid & your channel bc I was kinda just winging it from another creator's short form content. This is much more detailed yet straightforward & simply structured so thank you! Very excited for this journey🙌🏾
Yeah, I’m ready to simplify things and have a routine. I’m only concerned about how to pivot in the summertime. It’s waaaaaay too hot to be sporting a wig. 😅 Maybe that’s when I can try some box braids via crochet. I’ve got some hair that looks just like mine that might work for at least 6 weeks if my hair isn’t too long by then. 😊 Thanks for the inspiration! You’re beautiful and lovely. 🤩
It's one o'clock in the morning and I stumbled on to your channel. I am so excited to start. My hair has been in cornrows for a week, so I am going to continue the process. Thank you so much for making it sample to follow.
OMG!!!! I had to undo my hair for my dad's funeral on the 20th of April. I couldn't believe it😮 my hair was down to my chin when I started . Now, it's slightly touching my chest. OMG!! I am so excited. Right after the funeral that evening my hair was back in cornrows 😊 I have a three year plan to grow my hair down to my breast. Again , thank you for making this straightforward and simple.
This would definitely work, I always had my hair in two braids as a child and it was pretty long, but the minimal handling time meant I had NO idea how to take care of my hair once I took over, and I just wonder if this method is the best for someone who is just starting on their hair journey. What happens when you achieve the length, but you don't know how to take care of your hair at that length? 🤔
great question. I didn’t necessarily say it was a method for one starting off on their journey. in fact a few people with TWAs have asked how to join the challenge and I told them to leave the TWA alone! I think Afro hair should be very simple and it doesn’t take much to learn your hair. the discipline patience gentle detangling moisturizing etc will be lessons for life. once people find out they CAN achieve their hair goals, they can become motivated to learn more about their hair.
I had a similar experience. Personally I would say you can have the goal of health or length retention. If you focus on health you can learn how to detangle, style, protective style. Maybe you put it in braids during the winter or during the summer. The trial and error might mean you might want to do regular trims and maybe you won’t retain as much. However, I may not be waist length but I have hair at about my armpits. My hair falls differently in twist outs now vs when it was above shoulder length. It also takes much longer to style (unless it’s a wash and go). People I know that use braids and weaves for length often tend to cut their hair or straighten it for maintenance. It’s really important to get to know your hair before putting it away (if possible). For some family members they do these protective style’s or go to salon because it’s easier for them and fits with their schedule
if your ends are healthy their is no need to trim the hair at all. If there is a fairy knot just trim that fairy knot . No need to cut of healthy hair ends.
@morethanyourbasics this is spot on. I’m on a long hair journey now but I spent the last 3 years really getting to know my hair and if I’d skipped that phase before going on this journey, I’m certain I would’ve lost my length. For most of us who only went natural as adults, there’s a learning curve that you just have to go through. Playing with your hair, trying products, hairstyles, that’s all part of the process. They don’t call it a “natural hair journey” for nothing!
I am about to deploy and came across this video in time! I have been natural for a decade and have been trying to crack the code on my hair. I have not been able to grow my hair past shoulder length and I’m trying to confirm What will work. This may be it! I’m excited to try this along with my hair care routine.
Yesss just finished month 1 will be washing my hair this weekend. For me I’m going to shampoo condition deep condition, hydrate and moisturize my hair and then take one twist down at a time and retwist it back
I recently combed out my locs after 7 years and I have nearly waist-length hair now. However, I'm dreading the hair routine. I'm definitely going to try this method because I Feel like my hair thrives when it is left alone. For years before my locs it was so hard to grow my hair properly. Dreads caused my hair to grow, and even when combing them out, I find my hair is wayyy softer and healthier than its ever been my whole life. I want to maintain this and grow it even longer. Im definately going to be giving this a try!
I just came across your channel on my feed today and I subscribed as soon as I watched this video of this powerful hair growth strategy. I am so motivated at its simplicity. Currently in small single stranded twists and putting a wig on every morning when I leave the house. My hair has thinned out so much from breakage and my edges are pretty much non-existent. Makes me sad. I’ve been moisturizing my edges with oils daily since January to grow them back and started doing protein treatments on my last wash day two weeks ago. I was going to take my twists down for my next wash day and re-twist them afterwards but I’m going to stick with your strategy and wash my hair with the twists every month until month 3! Thank you so much for these amazing tips! ❤ God bless you 🙏🏽.
Twists don’t last as long as braids and once washed, especially mini twists the take down can be very tedious. Just a caution. I have done a video how I unravel my dry mini twists post wash. Might be helpful. Otherwise do braids or take down the twists earlier and re- install
@@CoilyDiaries Thank you for those details. Yeah I was in a hurry when I did my last wash so it was just easier and faster to do the twists, otherwise the plan was cornrows. But you are right, twists don’t last as long. They are pretty rough now because I’ve been oiling and massaging my scalp every night. They look like mini twists because my hair has gotten extremely thin so I don’t have a lot of hair hence no volume and by default they look like mini twists. I only have about 16-18 twists total lol 😂. But I’m washing my hair tomorrow so I’ll do cornrows this time. Or do you think I should do the cornrows without washing it now and wait another two weeks since I washed it two weeks ago?
Ohhh snap this is nice, I've been doing something similar wish but with mini twist, but I take them out every month and put them right back in (One twist at a time). Ive been doing this for 4 months so far and feel like there's growth. I think this is something I may be able to do , and then Ill see if Im at my goal length at the end of nursing school (2 years left).
I use alcohol free witch hazel when I clean my daughter’s scalp while wearing braids so she doesn’t need to shampoo. Just purchased the Malibu hard water shampoo and conditioner set I see on your dresser of this video and mentioned in another video as really good. Definitely on my way to waist length hair. When long enough I’ll try the old school Goddess cornrows in a top bun. Fingers crossed 🤞🏾
I love this routine, it's great for beginners. It really is simple to grow natural hair. I believe it's because we were conditioned to hate our hair that we think it's more difficult to take care of it than it actually is. Thanks Coily 🌸🌸
So glad others will consider the method. I have heard of others having success with this minimalist and super low manipulation approach. I wish you all success in reaching your hair dreams 💓✨ I wish I could get braids, but the truth is that I have serious dandruff. Going 1 week without thoroughly scrubbing my scalp, is very hard! the dandruff and scales on my scalp just in one week are serious. It's not possible for me to wash thoroughly with my hair braided because of the amount of scrubbing I have to do. This is why I don't spend time or money on braids, I would last 1 week before they were ruined from the scrubbing that I have to do to clean my scalp sufficiently. Washing gently would do nothing for me, and might make the dandruff worse. Probably would have a skin infection if I actually tried this for a few weeks😅. I wash my hair every 3-4 days. I have tried so much over the years to at least EXTEND the amount of time between washes and nothing has worked. the latest has been fenugreek, infused in oil, I also tried it as tea that I used on my scalp.
Glovers Mane will remove the dandruff flakes dermatitis psoriasis you can do this oil treatment before you shampoo your hair every two weeks every three weeks because I’ve had clients that had dermatitis and it removed the Bacteria. Also eating turmeric each day works miracles.
totally understand. excessive dandruff is not normal. consider getting it checked. also, prolonging your wash day by a day each time might teach your scalp to regulate itself better 🌺
Cornrows were my go to but for this year I decided to try mini braids (not the best idea) I loveeee my hair in braids and i find myself letting the braids hang down and flipping them and touching them constantly 🙃 so after the three months I'm going to go back to cornrows they're easier for me to ignore. But everything you say is the TRUTH I was bald in 2020 almost got to bra strap in 2023 but I cut my hair to shoulder length I'm currently back at Armpit length and I'm trying to retain length aggressively for my graduation in November.
Awesome! I have heard of this cornrow technique, but never broken down in the way you did it here. I'm already at waist length, but not all my my hair is that same length. I use bleach, so I have had a few setbacks the past year that left me at the same length. But I want something different now to keep the ends tucked and no longer breaking off. I am going to already be doing more protein treatments this year and also back to deep conditioning. I have been slacking on that for a bit. Thank you!
After watching this video I tried this from February to October & I'm in complete and utter shock at the results! I've been natural from chemicals since 2012 & this is the 1 thing that has TRULY given me the results!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
@@CoilyDiaries cornrows are excellent, mini twists and my favourite but I will do medium braids half way and the twist half way to the ends,in that way it will last longer. Cornrows need my hair to be blow dried and I don't wanna blow dry, I want to be heat free so my hair can recover
@@ArabiaButtkiss-iy5el currently still trying other options. Just seeing what works for me long-term Tried mini twists but my hair is fairly low density so there are a lot of gaps when I do them. Large flat twists work for me but they don’t last so long and I have to redo them ~1 week Gonna try smaller flat twists next as they don’t tend to cause me breakage
I simply wash and braid my hair in box braids. They stay in for at least 4 months. I have done this for years. My rate of growth continues to be phenomenal.
From April 2023 to April 2024 my hair has grown 12 inches. Low manipulation and protective styling are KEY. However, I never cornrow or braid my hair. It is very important to stick to a simple healthy haircare routine that works for you. Everyone is unique and has different protective hair styles that they like best. I only use a DIY homemade organic protein treatment 3 times per year. I think people must be careful with protein treatments. You don’t want to overdo it. I wash and deep condition my hair 2 times per month. I work from home and unless I go out or have to be camera ready for a Zoom meeting, I keep my hair all day in a scarf and bonnet. I only gently detangle my hair once a week with a wide tooth comb. Keeping your scalp oiled and your hair moisturized is important. I use mostly all natural organic products on my hair. My only hair style is a protective bun that I keep covered with a wig cap/stocking cap. Then I have several drawstring ponytails I wear over my protective bun. Even when I style my hair into a bun, I do not comb it. Low manipulation is very KEY.
@@zodidimhlana5978 Great Questions! I recently discovered that detangling my hair with a wide-tooth comb before I wash it is KEY. That makes it so easy to detangle at the end of wash day. My protective style is a bun. And I protect my bun by wrapping it in a stocking cap and wearing a drawstring ponytail over my bun to look cute.👍😊
I’m gonna do this. I’ve been doing twist for the past 2 months. Her method is good. I’m gonna do it. I want to have something where I don’t touch my hair but not use weave.
Moisturising today then this weekend doing henna treatment then putting hair back into mini twists. Already finished month 1, I've noticed a difference in detangling how much shed and broken hair I had vs December detangle. Adding in green tea rinses this month to see if that will show a difference in shedding.
inversion method and msg..worked for me. you have beautiful hair . I just can't go that long without detangling.. but I respect the practice .. much love to0 you
I just started watching this video and have not watched the entire video as yet. I will watch the entire video. I just wanted to jump in to say. I just got back to my healthy hair care journey 1 year ago. And in one year I have grown my hair from shoulder length to just past mid back, pass my bra. My hair will be to my waist by next year. This means I will have grown my hair from shoulder length to waist length in 2 years.
@@TheJanicetunes My routine is kind of long, but not difficult. I will try to give you the highlights here. Stick to a consistent routine that works for you. I wash my hair every other week. I do a hot oil pre-poo the night before wash day, keeping in the oil overnight with a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer for 25 minutes in the morning. Then I wash and deep condition, also leaving in my deep conditioner with a plastic cap on overnight and sit under a hooded dryer for 25 minutes the next morning. It’s important to keep your hair moisturized and in a protective style that works for you. I keep my hair in a protective bun. I cover my bun with a stocking cap/wig cap and then put a drawstring ponytail over my bun to look cute. I work from home, so I do not have to style my hair every day. It’s important to eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and take vitamins. I hope this is helpful!👍😊

And mehn, you just keep getting more and more beautiful ❤️🥰😍 January is gone already so there's no time to waste! This my hair must grow by fire by force 😂
I have fine hair and I’m sceptical about washing it in cornrows. It’s very likely there will be some build up after 3 months and my hair just cannot withstand build up, no matter how careful I am with it. We need a fine hair girlie to report back after trying it 😅
@luvfeelinpretty I have fine, kinky textured hair. If you have fine, looser textured hair, you may be fine. But if it’s kinky like mine, don’t wash your hair in corn rows, or any protective style for that matter. You WILL have a matted, tangled mess. 😅 Been there and I’m still traumatized! 😆 I’m doing this challenge all year, Lord willing, but I’m keeping my scalp clean with tea tree, rosemary and MSM spritz. I will wash thoroughly every 3 months.
I have fine hair and have washed in cornrows. I’m at bra strap length. I usually will keep it in for a month or a month and a half, washing every other week. There was some matting and it is tedious to take down, but the growth SO WORTH IT LOL. Tried something different last time and did the take down on on freshly washed hair instead of taking it down and then washing and found it to be a lot easier. That being said I don’t know how I feel about going a whole 3 months, that scares me. Maybe I’ll stick with every six weeks. I’ll aim for two months and see how it goes. Best of luck to everyone and happy growing. 😊 Also, I like the idea of re-doing each cornrow as you take it down instead of undoing your entire head all at once. Thank you so much for the video, keep ‘em coming ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing. Your idea makes so much sense. I will give it a try for this year, but i will probably take the cornrows down and wash monthly.
Good idea! I have very soft hair and 3 months scare me (afraid of matting) didn't think that I should just do it monthly, ha! I am gonna try it because I want fast growing hair.
I’m not sure I can go 3 months but I will start a self challenge and commit to 6 weeks then then do complete wash day routine and renew cornrows; I’ll then and try for 8 weeks and reoeat. Then 10 weeks and reoeat to finally train my hair to get to 12 weeks. What are your thoughts on that?
Thank you so much, I just subscribed to your channel: I've always kept my hair in cornrow, but I do add a crochet, well my hair is not growing and breaking off and I think it's because I'm not having enough access to my scalp to moisturize often and I usually take them down after 1 month, so I'm motivated now to do this! I'' ll get a wig, I don't care! I'm 50 and I want that long beautiful natural hair! I always knew cornrow grows hair the fastest! but the secret is to keep it for long time!
Thank you for your reply! To answer your question, I only keep it for 4 weeks at a time and sometimes 6 weeks then it looks bad, so I take the hair down and pay someone to another crochet! but I only moisturize once a week or 2 weeks which is not often enough! As I'm texting this, I just take down my crochet and I'm really taking my time! I realize the takedown has not been a gentle one that's why I'm taking my time; I will do plaits and twist the end just until I get someone to do the cornrow! I'm not very good at cornrow! Another reason, I think its breaking is stress, being peri-menopausal with the changing in the body hormones, and of course juggling kids and husband, jobs etc..., I really have not been taking good care of myself, which starts now! I have taken some initiative to decrease my overall stress; Is there any vitamins you recommend helping with the hair growth and strenght?
@@MissK536 I think you have identified a few areas already that can improve your length retention. Biotin and hair specific supplement can help but i personally just recommend a multivitamin. This way you have a more wholesome dose of everything your body needs
I can attest to this! 👏🏾 But I would definitely trim atleast twice a year! You don’t want to work so hard just to loose it all from splits continuing up the hair shaft, this happen to me! I reached arm pit length for the first time in my life but a good 3 inches were split ends because I never trimmed the whole 2 years lol I was so upset 😢 You shouldn’t have very many splits with the low manipulation so don’t worry about loosing length. I also recommend crocheting your ends into your braids to tuck them away! It’ll reduce friction and keep them moisturized which will help avoid splits! And BE GENTLE WHEN DETANGLING! ❤
@@Wendy-sb6en Every blue moon but if not like she stated in the video I definitely stretch my hair to avoid single strand knots & tangles. I normally do 4-6 plaits (depending on length) air dry and then cornrow 😊
My hair is so long and thick and at 42 yo my hair has never been like this
thank for sharing this 🌺
I do also / use that prescription by dermatologist only problem is when you stop using the growth falls out , it’s a lifetime drug
When and how do you detangle your hair?
What is a good deep condition?
I don't think it really counts if even you stop the medicine your hair all falls out
Did exactly this with single twists/ braids repeatedly a few years ago, hair grew, was healthy and thriving! My lazy self loves this... low/no manipulation.
pretty much “chilling” routine. no stress!
Do a complete takedown at the end of those 3 months and immediately put the style back in & do it again.
wow! that’s exactly the same!😍😍
How do you keep your hair from drying out and matting up? I’ve done this and reached bra strap length, but my hair was too dry and brittle!
@@MahoganieBeautie It's always dry after takedown b/c of the edge control / harder products built up ( for me anyway ) so before installing the style you can just moisturize your hair w/ leave in conditioner & after take down pre-poo BEFORE washing it as to NOT have over excessive hair shed.
what's the point of having long hair if you always have fake hair on it?

Awesome! let’s do it sis🩷

No one has ever really said how to grow natural hair the way you are saying
🥰🥰🥰
This routine is bomb guys. I have relaxed hair but this routine made me retain so much length in two year. Thank so much
❤️❤️❤️
What do you do to ensure the hair isn't matted three months, that's my only fear.
Been told that natural hair is “so versatile” and there’s “so much you can do!!” Which yes is true…
But what those people don’t mention is by doing the most and changing your hair all the time, that is all a lot of manipulation.
There is a sacrifice for a period 🌺. keep going
Would you do a video with some doable styles while with cornrows for the three months please.
Doable styles?

I agree with everything you say except washing hair in cornrow. The residue will be accumulating under the cornrow which might cause scalp issue. I also think the density of the hair matters.
Hair expands when being washed. What are you putting in your hair that has residue? Sounds strange. I always wash my hair in yarn braids and it gets properly cleaned. I let it dry in the yarn so it is stretched before I can attend to it.

wow! amazing!❤️
Usually don't comment but I found you on Jan. 8th and my hair has been flourishing 🙌 In this busy last few years I've neglected my hair so much, keeping in small knotless braids and sew ins and never really taking care of my hair underneath. Rough stylists thinned out my hair and edges while I was growing out the texturizer I put in my hair from 2022 (thankfully those straight ends are all gone now)
Needless to say, you're the first person I found with this simple routine to bring my hair back to health by leaving it alone and learning how to properly moisturize.

This works for me, but the max I go is 2 months and I do not wash in between. Yes, I said it, I DO NOT WASH. I can already hear them coming for me 😄
🌺🌺🌺
I do not wash either and I’m relaxed but it works so perfectly well for me
The individual I know with the biggest and healthiest afro that I have seen doesnt wash her hair and she only uses vaseline (dax) and water.
i dont wash until the end of month 3. but i think i would grow more if i did because that a good source of hydration and my hair craves hydration and sealing.

Love to see your progress…
I think this was how i grew my hair out. I recently chopped it and i want to grow it again. I was feeling overwhelmed until this video. I couldnt remember anything about the growing process. Thank you!
You’ve got this!!!

Mmmm not a cornrows fan...
do what works!
Wonderful! I think it’s good to find a balance between the two
Cantu keeps my braids neat and moisturized. Also I do a side path with my braids, looks more stylish
I'll start this weekend and let's see if I could make it too! New sub'! Thanks for sharing this!

@user-tt7ft6us9r hi siss..how long had it been in cornrows?? Before 20th April?
This would definitely work, I always had my hair in two braids as a child and it was pretty long, but the minimal handling time meant I had NO idea how to take care of my hair once I took over, and I just wonder if this method is the best for someone who is just starting on their hair journey. What happens when you achieve the length, but you don't know how to take care of your hair at that length? 🤔
great question. I didn’t necessarily say it was a method for one starting off on their journey. in fact a few people with TWAs have asked how to join the challenge and I told them to leave the TWA alone!
I think Afro hair should be very simple and it doesn’t take much to learn your hair. the discipline patience gentle detangling moisturizing etc will be lessons for life. once people find out they CAN achieve their hair goals, they can become
motivated to learn more about their hair.
@@CoilyDiaries True 👍🏼
if your ends are healthy their is no need to trim the hair at all.
I'm definitely going to try this method because I Feel like my hair thrives when it is left alone. For years before my locs it was so hard to grow my hair properly.
@@ChiChiN248 it’s really up to you🤗
And I forgot to say thank you so much for this. ❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
Ohhh snap this is nice, I've been doing something similar wish but with mini twist, but I take them out every month and put them right back in (One twist at a time). Ive been doing this for 4 months so far and feel like there's growth. I think this is something I may be able to do , and then Ill see if Im at my goal length at the end of nursing school (2 years left).
Love it! All the best for nursing school!!
I’m all in, with some refining to my hair needs! Looking forward to seeing all the work pay off. 🌺
Wonderful! love it 🥰
I have definitely done this in 2021 to grow from APL to BSL. A different protective style but same principle of every 3months.
yes girl!!!
my hair grows about an inch a month and my hair is about 12 inches so im aiming big with my goals thank you for your tips🫶🏾
Nice 👍🏽
How much did it grow?
I use alcohol free witch hazel when I clean my daughter’s scalp while wearing braids so she doesn’t need to shampoo. Just purchased the Malibu hard water shampoo and conditioner set I see on your dresser of this video and mentioned in another video as really good. Definitely on my way to waist length hair. When long enough I’ll try the old school Goddess cornrows in a top bun. Fingers crossed 🤞🏾
love it!
I love this routine, it's great for beginners. It really is simple to grow natural hair. I believe it's because we were conditioned to hate our hair that we think it's more difficult to take care of it than it actually is. Thanks Coily 🌸🌸
well said beautiful 🩷
True true true.
So glad others will consider the method. I have heard of others having success with this minimalist and super low manipulation approach. I wish you all success in reaching your hair dreams 💓✨
I wish I could get braids, but the truth is that I have serious dandruff.
I would encourage you to look into your diet if you are having serious dandruff.
totally understand. excessive dandruff is not normal. consider getting it checked. also, prolonging your wash day by a day each time might teach your scalp to regulate itself better 🌺

Cornrows were my go to but for this year I decided to try mini braids (not the best idea) I loveeee my hair in braids and i find myself letting the braids hang down and flipping them and touching them constantly 🙃 so after the three months I'm going to go back to cornrows they're easier for me to ignore. But everything you say is the TRUTH I was bald in 2020 almost got to bra strap in 2023 but I cut my hair to shoulder length I'm currently back at Armpit length and I'm trying to retain length aggressively for my graduation in November.
great to hear this. cheering you on 🌺
good science. 3 years can go by fast.
true!
I work from home rarely go out so this is perfect for me. Already mid back length so I can’t wait for wait length
Nice !!
Thank you!
You so are so welcome 🌺
Thank you for your help and your kindness to share your journey.
You are so welcome
I am currently trying this routine in my second week. I hope to see those lengths at the end of the year
❤️❤️❤️
After watching this video I tried this from February to October & I'm in complete and utter shock at the results! I've been natural from chemicals since 2012 & this is the 1 thing that has TRULY given me the results!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
love it 😻
Liking your video because I like what I hear in the few seconds! Am in! Aggressive we go💪
Awesome! let’s goooo!!!🌺🌺🌺
@@CoilyDiaries cornrows are excellent, mini twists and my favourite but I will do medium braids half way and the twist half way to the ends,in that way it will last longer. Cornrows need my hair to be blow dried and I don't wanna blow dry, I want to be heat free so my hair can recover
Thanks!
Thank YOU!!!🙏🏽 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽😳
The process of putting in cornrows breaks my hair, whether stretched or in its natural state, so alternative protective styles are better for me
glad you have other options 🌺
What are your alternatives? My sister's hair breaks in cornrows and I would love to give her alternatives.
@@ArabiaButtkiss-iy5el I give other options in the video. Braids & twists
@@ArabiaButtkiss-iy5el currently still trying other options. Just seeing what works for me long-term
Tried mini twists but my hair is fairly low density so there are a lot of gaps when I do them.
Large flat twists work for me but they don’t last so long and I have to redo them ~1 week
Gonna try smaller flat twists next as they don’t tend to cause me breakage
I simply wash and braid my hair in box braids. They stay in for at least 4 months. I have done this for years. My rate of growth continues to be phenomenal.
love it 🥰
From April 2023 to April 2024 my hair has grown 12 inches. Low manipulation is very KEY.
thanks for sharing what’s working for you! low manipulation has been a game changer for me
Interesting. How do you minimize breakage when washing your hair? What protective styles work for you?
@@zodidimhlana5978 Great Questions! I recently discovered that detangling my hair with a wide-tooth comb before I wash it is KEY. That makes it so easy to detangle at the end of wash day. My protective style is a bun. And I protect my bun by wrapping it in a stocking cap and wearing a drawstring ponytail over my bun to look cute.👍😊
I’m gonna do this. I’ve been doing twist for the past 2 months. Her method is good. I’m gonna do it. I want to have something where I don’t touch my hair but not use weave.
come on girl 💪🏾
Moisturising today then this weekend doing henna treatment then putting hair back into mini twists. Already finished month 1, I've noticed a difference in detangling how much shed and broken hair I had vs December detangle.
Adding in green tea rinses this month to see if that will show a difference in shedding.
keep going!!!
inversion method and msg..worked for me. you have beautiful hair . I just can't go that long without detangling.. but I respect the practice .. much love to0 you

Excellent video my sister. Really good advice. I think I’ll try box braids without extensions.
that’s a great choice!
I believe you and am excited to start my hair growth journey. Never heard anyone explain the way you have done. God bless you 🫡
All the best!
Wow.... I came across your channel today. This is a good idea. I will try it. Subscribed 😊
Thanks for subbing! join the crew 😅
I can't wait to try this out! I do have a question, would this cause some hair thinning due to back to back protective styling?
@@naturalmeriley9436 depends a lot on what style and how it’s installed. Styles with your own hair shouldn’t cause any issues
@@CoilyDiaries thank you for the info ❤
FINALLY a video that makes SENSE, less is more, and I'm not trying to comb my hair constantly 🥴

I love this makes my life alot easier ❤
yes sis!!!
This means I will have grown my hair from shoulder length to waist length in 2 years.
good for you! love the accelerated results!
Wow! How did you do it?
@@TheJanicetunes There is a lot I do, I cannot really say it all in a comment. Maybe one day I will make my own video on it. Thanks for asking!👍😊
When I am home my hair is in a silk/satin bonnet all day. Always sleep with a silk/satin bonnet and I also have satin pillowcase. It’s important to eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and take vitamins. I hope this is helpful!👍😊
@@cbchang6200 wow thank you so much for taking the time to write your steps down❤❤❤ Its so appreciated! Im thinking now that its not so much about the products but about the routine. Wow, your skin looks flawless.
Thank you 🙏🏽
I may try this just a bit nervous about washing it in the cornrows but my hair is fine so it should be fine. Thank you for sharing!!!
You can do it! gentle patient take down. unravel one at a time and re-cornrow before moving on to the next. I do the same with twists
I have a relax hair but I do this and only retouch my hair 3 to four months. I wash the corn rolls.
Thank you so much for sharing. Your idea makes so much sense. I will give it a try for this year, but i will probably take the cornrows down and wash monthly.
Love it 🥰
I think it’s brilliant 👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you so much, I just subscribed to your channel: I've always kept my hair in cornrow, but I do add a crochet, well my hair is not growing and breaking off and I think it's because I'm not having enough access to my scalp to moisturize often and I usually take them down after 1 month, so I'm motivated now to do this! I'' ll get a wig, I don't care! I'm 50 and I want that long beautiful natural hair! I always knew cornrow grows hair the fastest! but the secret is to keep it for long time!
Welcome to the channel ❤️! Why do you think the breakage is happening though? How long do you leave the styles in and is your takedown gentle?
Ok. Thank you so much for your recommendation 😊
absolutely agree 👍🏽 💯!
Do you blow dry your hair before doing the cornrows? (With heat protector)
@@Wendy-sb6en Every blue moon but if not like she stated in the video I definitely stretch my hair to avoid single strand knots & tangles. I normally do 4-6 plaits (depending on length) air dry and then cornrow 😊
@@Wendy-sb6en If I’m in a rush I’ll even cornrow while it’s dap. That works as well
