It is terrible…I am not sure the solution, whether laws, or just social shaming, but some of these parents are intentionally putting their children out there to make money, and cannot fail to understand the facts of exploitation. I have sweet friends who only put totally appropriate pictures on Facebook of their children. And I enjoy seeing them, one particular family has absolutely beautiful/cute children. But having become aware of everything that goes on I cringe every time. Fr, I remember the first time I was told to put on a bra. It was by my elementary school friend when I was 10. It was so embarrassing and wild since I never had anyone comment on my body outside of my family before. Especially when it was to tell me to cover up more (I wear standard t-shirts and normal kid clothes). I can't imagine experiencing all of that from millions of unknown people online when I'm not even fully conscious yet.
Another big thing that I feel often gets brushed under the rug is the big issue of *competition dance team costumes.* I was in ballet so costumes were luckily fine, but in the jazz world especially, kids often have to perform in the most insane crop tops and booty shorts that’re sometimes paired with the most inappropriate choreography. It can even be hard for the parents that care, because their child works hard in dance class and wants to perform and feel included in the group - but u either have to pull the kid out of the studio altogether or watch them be sexualized in front of an audience. As someone who loves dance but wants kids to be protected and respected, it’s seriously sad and disturbing

7:50 that actually really explains my situation. Teenagers my age are a lot more childish than me. They yell and loudly laugh, while I'm stuck constantly thinking that the way they behave is very immature and childish. It bothers me a lot, because I often (almost always) come of as boring for a lot of people which leads to me having very few friends. Yep I knew a child predator and got access to his fb activity. He was liking all child pics that his friends posted but no grown women. That was a major red flag. On one hand, i get it. People should be able to live in a world where they won't have to deal with PDF files. BUT.... as the adult YOU shouldn't be putting your child's life and innocence on the line for views.

Things like, “Christmas”, “First day of school” or “at the fair” aren’t a big deal. My potential future children will likely attend public school and get photographed regularly. Whether they are posted by me or the school, there will be images of them online. I would rather focus on punishing AI abusing individuals than trying to scrub my child off the internet which I see as a losing battle. In time laws will be created for type of AI content I believe. Truly, regular and normal photographs are not the problem. It’s the suggestive and boundary stepping images that should be controlled better. Unless you homeschool and go practically Amish your children will be present on the web by your doing or their own. I have a friend with 5 adorable bright blonde blue eyed kids, and they never wear the same clothes twice. She will only buy from boutiques, then sell the clothes at a consignment store only to turn around and do it again. What makes me so sad is every single one of those kids are trained to focus way too much on their appearance, and she takes pictures every single morning of their outfits of the day so they also worry too much about looking good on camera. The oldest is in 4th grade! I hate that my friend is so hypersensitive to appearances (she is much the same with herself and her husband),when she they are all beautiful and handsome and I just want to see people enjoying time with their kids in a healthy way.

As kind of a child I agree in the make up part. I just started middle school and ALL of my girl classmates wear like 70 layers of makeup, they look good, not my problem, but then they start to pick up on other girls that don't use make up or make up in a natural way, without any base o highlighter. It's just kind of sad, because they don't use makeup because they like it, they use it because they "need" it.

It is terrible…I am not sure the solution, whether laws, or just social shaming, but some of these parents are intentionally putting their children out there to make money, and cannot fail to understand the facts of exploitation. I have sweet friends who only put totally appropriate pictures on Facebook of their children. And I enjoy seeing them, one particular family has absolutely beautiful/cute children. But having become aware of everything that goes on I cringe every time. I also know one family that has a zero tolerance policy, no pictures of their kids on any social media platform, including Snapchat.

Fr, I remember the first time I was told to put on a bra. It was by my elementary school friend when I was 10. It was so embarrassing and wild since I never had anyone comment on my body outside of my family before. Another big thing that I feel often gets brushed under the rug is the big issue of *competition dance team costumes.* I was in ballet so costumes were luckily fine, but in the jazz world especially, kids often have to perform in the most insane crop tops and booty shorts that’re sometimes paired with the most inappropriate choreography.
It can even be hard for the parents that care, because their child works hard in dance class and wants to perform and feel included in the group - but u either have to pull the kid out of the studio altogether or watch them be sexualized in front of an audience. As someone who loves dance but wants kids to be protected and respected, it’s seriously sad and disturbing

I'm glad I'm not the only one weirded out by this. I remember being a fourth grader in jazz dance class and I remember another from another dance who was younger me than embarrassed because the costume had a crop top and she was covering her stomach during the whole routine. I didn't blame her one bit. Also, gymnastic leotards and some cheerleader tops for underage girls need more coverage in my opinion.

I recently encountered a kid dressed like that, and it honestly made me so uncomfortable... like I looked at her dad and he was just completely unbothered that his daugher was running through rows of strangers with unknown moral compasses, exposing midriff. If she's not old enough to take the train on her own, then she should not be in a crop top, is that so hard?

There is such a difference in a child maybe wearing a pair of shirts they've outgrown a bit, and putting a child in straight up booty shorts - no 8 yr old needs to have their butt cheeks out on display. They yell and loudly laugh, while I'm stuck constantly thinking that the way they behave is very immature and childish. this is really a reflection on how differently parents take care of their kids. one time i went into a small convenience store with my older brother, after school to get ice cream because it was really hot. when me and my brother were about to walk out of the store, a mom and her daughter, maybe less than 4, was literally wearing a sleeveless crop top and tight pants. another one was when last year i walked past the principal's office to buy something at our cafeteria, and yet ANOTHER toddler was seen wearing a crop top with the mother getting scolded by a faculty worker, since obviously my old school was very strict with dress code. im still in junior high school, and i already felt disgusted on how parents dress their child up these days...

Some clothing parents put on their kids are so showy that they accidentally showed the kids' n1pples when they played around. Not ok.
In Australia you have to get a licence to own a dog. But anyone can have children, society has no idea what or how the potential parents believe in, backgrounds etc. It's a absolute minefield, the law has to catch up , prevent-these parent's behaviour. They don't deserve to have children in their custody. Parents don't own their kids, like u own/bought/paid for ur pets. Children also have Human Rights,
The fact that companies even MAKE skimpy clothes like this in children's sizes is a big part of the problem too.

As a long term internet user, the only way a child is safe online is if they never post pictures or type to others and the cameras are covered and mic unplugged. And even then they aren’t safe they just can’t get as messed up. Like seriously it’s not safe to even post family vacation photos at the beach 2:00 imma be honest it’s just child abuse to dress your kid like that.

I respect your opinion but I think it’s more nuanced than that. I grew up with a mom on Facebook so my pics are out there and I’ve never feel it was a violation. Things like, “Christmas”, “First day of school” or “at the fair” aren’t a big deal.
Now obviously if there had been bath pics or anything pervy I would feel different but I think social media is all in how you use it
@@carrie9716 Problem is, nowadays, AI generated imaging exists. Photoshop exists... Even yearbook images aren't safe because there was a boy once who made innaporpriate images of ALL his MINOR female classmates and spread them around. It doesn't matter if it is appropriate or not, your children are unsafe. Period.
@@the_indecisiveartist_5850 and I completely see why you feel that way. But as you mentioned, any image can be manipulated. My potential future children will likely attend public school and get photographed regularly. Whether they are posted by me or the school, there will be images of them online. I would rather focus on punishing AI abusing individuals than trying to scrub my child off the internet which I see as a losing battle. In time laws will be created for type of AI content I believe. Truly, regular and normal photographs are not the problem. It’s the suggestive and boundary stepping images that should be controlled better. But again, I think there is no harm in being cautious and I like that there is more awareness nowadays than there was in the past.

@@catchapatcha A close relative worked for the FBI both in the child pornography and human trafficking units. I 100% understand the risks. I just also recognize the internet is not going away. Unless you homeschool and go practically Amish your children will be present on the web by your doing or their own. Teaching kids boundaries and internet safety is more important to me than trying to shield them from the web. As more kids get phones and tablets in elementary school they will be posting themselves and others. I just don’t think it’s possible to live a fully offline life and I don’t think it’s worth the fight.

I just went to Target the other day and it's crazy how many crop tops and even bikinis are in the girls section. Luckily there were plenty of other clothing options that had more coverage but it still felt icky.

Some little child dancers wear bikinis. It's not right or needed even for dance.
Some athletes tried to change that they are forced to dress showy in the Olympics, but unfortunately it can be difficult.
If you pick up the toddler/baby jeans and compare them to the boys, the girl jeans are a thinner cut. I know females biologically run a little more hot, but I feel like it has less to do with that and people not wanting their baby girls looking "fat"...

I have a friend with 5 adorable bright blonde blue eyed kids, and they never wear the same clothes twice. She will only buy from boutiques, then sell the clothes at a consignment store only to turn around and do it again. What makes me so sad is every single one of those kids are trained to focus way too much on their appearance, and she takes pictures every single morning of their outfits of the day so they also worry too much about looking good on camera. The oldest is in 4th grade! I hate that my friend is so hypersensitive to appearances (she is much the same with herself and her husband),when she they are all beautiful and handsome and I just want to see people enjoying time with their kids in a healthy way.

This is just disgusting. The most cruel thing to do is dress your toddler up in grown up clothing and use them for money. Another thing, who in they right mind is making clothes in this size for little CHILDREN?

As kind of a child I agree in the make up part. I just started middle school and ALL of my girl classmates wear like 70 layers of makeup, they look good, not my problem, but then they start to pick up on other girls that don't use make up or make up in a natural way, without any base o highlighter. It's just kind of sad, because they don't use makeup because they like it, they use it because they "need" it.

Tell them that 90 percent of these online make-up tutorials are done by people who have zero training as makeup artists. What they're doing is one step down from clown makeup -- it's waaay too much and no one in normal life walks around with 100 percent full coverage face paint on like that.
70 layers? That sounds kind of mean spirited but I get your point, they’re still quite young. They’re obviously going to be insecure about things like most people growing up. As long as they don’t get to your head and then leave them be because then they’ll reminisce on their past actions. Talk to the girls they make fun of, be nice to them. They shouldn’t feel like they peaked in middle school.
The only makeup the girls wore when I was in middle school was lip gross and eye shadow without any foundation on

Children should never be treated as decorative objects or made to conform to adult standards of beauty, like wearing makeup or dressing inappropriately just to look 'pretty.' Toddlers should be free from these pressures and allowed to just be kids, without worrying about their appearance. They should have the choice to decide how they want to dress or look, based on their personal preferences-not because they think they need to meet anyone's standards. Knowing toddlers (as a big brother), I can already imagine how many scream and cry when forced into these uncomfortable or inappropriate outfits, trust me, my little sibling cries when getting her hair brushed, so imagine how a child is when forced into these tight crops tops and hair extensions that either pull on there head or provide a tripping hazard

You said everything that I've been thinking in this video. People should not be allowed to have dedicated accounts specifically for their children. Children should not be monetizable. There's no reason why a five year old is wearing skimpier clothing than most grown women. Social media sites should really start cracking down on those accounts. It's disgusting.
