Amazing. Just what I needed. Can’t really understand why astro did not even update their own audio extractor to an 2.1. They probably want to keep the production costs low. If Sony adds an optical in or earc on ps5. And if astro will create an gen 5 mix amp pro with earc. Then that would make things much easier. But now this is probably the best solution. Awesome. Thanks for the video
Astro has the A50X now, which has the audio extractor in the base station, and can be connected to XBox, PS5, and PC at the same time. It sounds ok, but Astro hasn't been known for quality since being bought by Logitech.
This video was enlightening. You have completely changed the game for me. I been using monitors with no speakers for over a decade. So this is gonna help so much thank you!
Why Sony and Microsoft ever thought it was a goos idea to remove the optical output is beyond me. All they did was make it more convoluted and unnecessary than it should be to get sound.
Thanks so much for this I got mine today and got it sorted through optical with VRR 4k 120hz HDR amazing little product had to buy an us to uk adapter for the plug as wasn’t one in the box as got from Amazon and shipped from Amazon US
Bought the exact same, just not labled OPEI. It had some extra outputs for sound, HDMI and for Amplifier. Bought a Xbox series X and forgot to check. Xbox one is using the optical sound cable. Display only has one HDMI and the JBL soundbar has one HDMI and one Optical.. The price difference between Amp out and without was so little so i thought better have it then regret it later - just the video i needed =)
Do these strip the audio from the HDMI line, or does it allow full audio signal to both? For someone streaming I think they need audio to going both HDMI and optical so the capture card gets proper signal.
i would like to use 3 optical ports 2 Hdmi 120 FPS ports '' i have the schiit hel 2 + connected to the ps5 and the astro mix amp to the xbox series x so can this device let me plug every thing in at one so i don't have to keep switching cables?

@techsteve - Ok, Longer post... I have PS5, XBOX, and PC. I use Astro A50x's for my gaming headset, all of my gaming systems plug into the base for the Astro A50x. I have a full GOXLR mixer for Audio control. I have Fiber optics jumper out of the audio extractor to the GOXLR. I have routed and configured through GOXLR. I have the Elgato 4K X capture card and it is set to HDMI passthrough in its settings for audio. I have a BKA-1 Audio Extractor. I have the game audio coming to my headset, but I have the game audio set to output through HDMI since I will get the game audio from the GOXLR. The issue I am having now is that my streams are not capturing the game audio. Any ideas?
Im sorry I know this isn't on topic but what do you think of the LG A2 48"? It's on sale for $599 before taxes it's regular $1,300.. Can you review the TV? I was gonna get a 55 inch TU690T thank got I didn't!
Great video Steve! I have a different scenario for a device like this. I have a Vizio V51-H6 Soundbar hooked up to my LG OLED55C6 TV via HDMI Arc. While it works most of the time, it has given me fits lately. Can I bypass the TV using the Soundbar hooking it into the Input on this and then using the Optical Out on this hooked up to the Optical port on my TV? Obviously I wouldn't need HDMI out from this box in my case here. I'm actually using the Optical Port right now to power my bathroom speakers receiver I have hooked up to it, so I'd need a Splitter there too haha.
It only works off of external sources. This might work but I don’t remember all of the video ruclips.net/video/drJWXBmtWAg/видео.htmlsi=wk-aebF_GvPiITJq
Does the HDMI OUT signal still cary the sound. I want to run the extractor for my Butt Kicker to my racing sim via the 3.5mm OUT but still want the HDMI OUT to carry sound to my AV amp for my sound system and projector.
I want to connect my chromecast ultra to the extractor - Will the extractor provide power to the Chromecast or do they both have to be connected to external power? Also can the HDMI output be disconnected since I only want to output audio from the Chromecast via toslink cable to my speakers
I have purchased both the Orei HDA-912 & BK-102a for my series x and I get bad screen flickering with both of these units! I have tried multiple different certified HDMI cables and changed various settings but I cannot stop it from happening... Do you have any advice please? If I can't fix it I'll have to return them both back to Amazon 😓
Hello does this work on the Xbox series x? My monitor doesn’t have built in speakers and I need something for audio to come out my Xbox to my external speakers
So I have a very similar product to get XBox Series X audio to my sound system. The extractor supports 5.1, but the XBox doesn't see that and will only output stereo, so my sub does zippy. Any way to force my XBox to output 5.1? Will it see this device as 5.1, or would I have the same issue?
hey i have the astro a40 tr and i currently have the astro adapter but i cant get 1440p with 120hz I have a 165hz monitor. I was wondering if i get this adapter will i get 1440p 120hz? & will the astro mixamp work on this adapter?

HDMI supports far more audio standards than a Toslink can. Toslink is limited and cannot carry uncompressed audio. HDMI can carry Dolby Atmos/DTS:X. Toslink is extremely outdated and not sure why anyone would want to use it in 2023 especially for a modern gaming system with high quality audio. This is in most cases a downgrade.. If you are still using toslink, move on.
There's no headset that supports HDMI except the Astro A50X, but that's just a wireless stereo headset. Do you think HDMI would make any difference compared to optical? Optical has isolation from electricity so there's no noise. Atmos for Headphones and DTS Headphone X support optical. HDMI on headphones sounds like marketing and overkill
Well guess what, my stereo 2.0 system costs more than $3000 and will kick any surround system because stereo is actually how human ears work too! Surround sound only has an advantage when you have multiple people offset from the centre of the screen and they need a balanced stereo image too. Sorry to burst your bubble but surround sound is definitely inferior to stereo if you use headphones, or even sit directly between two high end speakers
