    Hi. You may have answered this in another video, but given that your first diagnosis was Stage 4 (metastatic) cancer, did you store any eggs before undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, and did you conceive your baby with these eggs, once you were NED? If not, were you advised not to become pregnant (or that it would be impossible to conceive) for a certain period of time due to the treatment affecting the development of the foetus? I think other people may want to know the answer to this question too. Thanks in advance.

    • @SamanthaL
      @SamanthaL  2 месяца назад +13

      Great questions. Yes, I did freeze eggs before chemo, but we did not need them since I got pregnant naturally. We recently had them destroyed since we don’t plan on using them ever. I stopped my medications before planning to get pregnant, so I’m not sure what the proper washout period would be. I have heard some people say 3 months or so, but it might depend on the exact medication, so it would be best for each person to talk to their doctor. I stopped treatment in October 2021, my period returned in December 2021, and we found out I was pregnant in April 2022

    You are an amazing person and an amazing parent! My daughter had stage two breast cancer before she turned 30 and now at 33 she is due with her first child in October.
    After all the treatments and surgery and agony, she went through to now see her living her life so joyful is such a wonderful reward! You deserve to make the choice that makes you happy! You deserve to live the fullest and best life you can and experience every aspect of parenthood.
    I think everything cancer patients go through especially young women mold you into these incredible humans. Cancer changes how you look at life and lets you understand how utterly valuable every day is. I think a child whose parent understands this is incredibly fortunate so don’t ever let anyone make you feel guilty about your excellent decision-making!

    I admire and support women who get pregnant after cancer. I was planning on using donor embryos before my stage 3 diagnosis. Went through all the treatments. Even stopped tamoxifen and verzenio cause it ruined my quality of life. Life should have quality. Dont just count the days. I was fear mongered by drs telling me babies will make the cancer come back but cant give me a percentage. Even by my obgyn. But she said its my life...and shes right. Live your life. People like you are one in a million - through all that you had to endure you still help others who are facing the same things with each new video even when cancer may not be top of mind for you at times especially when you're busy with a young child.
    I personally think that whoever criticises you for your decisions you made for your life is simply acting out due to feeling threatened on some level by someone who actually lives life to the fullest. And there's no doubt in my mind that this is exactly what you're doing and supposed to be doing, as should we all; what this means is up to each of us.

    This is such a personal decision. Bless your heart. So glad you had that sweet baby! My personal beliefs are, if it will be your time to pass, then it's your time. Whether you have a baby after this type of cancer or not. Could be a car accident, cancer, or anything. Why live ones life in constant fear? I think you are amazing!

  • @joshow926
    @joshow926 2 месяца назад +1

    I love following your progress and fully believe that every decision you make is well thought out (and that you have a lot of professional guidance)! Just from the way you talk about things, it should be clear to others that your choices make a lot of sense and aren't made lightly or in ignorance. Unfortunately there will always be people who come with negativity and project their own fears, and others who simply struggle to understand other people's choices because their opinions differ. Such is the world we live in!
    I'm currently a year and a half NED, but had TNBC (though not stage 4). Since it wasn't hormone positive, pregnancy may not be as much of a worry, but I still don't feel that having had cancer disqualifies me from getting pregnant and being a mother someday. Like you, I live my life in enjoyment rather than fear. I also say that anything could happen to anyone at any time. Your videos have helped me see lots of positives, so thank you!
    Looking forward to more of your videos, and I pray that you and your family will enjoy many more great summers together!

    Hey Samantha, I certainly support your approach to life and making the best decisions for yourself and your family. It is your life, you decide how it goes, 100%. The only comment I would like to make is regarding stage IV cancer - there is no such thing as just a little bit, small spot. If it is in one spot, it is also everywhere else, even though you may not see it on tests, because spots are too small to be detected. It seems that your health care providers did not explain this to you well, but it is important that other people understand this before making their decisions that are best for them. Treatment extends life. It doesn't mean the treatment cures stage IV cancer, but it definitely extends life. Stopping treatment for stage IV cancer will make the disease come back and shorten your life. Again, everyone is 100% free do decide what they want, but it is important that people out there understand this and are not mislead.
    Wishing you well, you are very sweet, and I enjoy watching your videos.

    • @SamanthaL
      @SamanthaL  2 месяца назад +1

      I do believe that there is such a thing because there are people who can be cured from stage 4 cancer when it only spreads to one area, but you’re right, it is still very serious and it is definitely something to be considered.

    I actually had an argument with someone who made a statement that you shouldn’t have kids when you cannot afford a yearly vacation in a resort abroad with them. What some people think a life not worth living is these days is honestly wild to me. I for my part would prefer having a loving mother who I might lose earlier, over an abusive or absentee parent any day. And which life is worth to be lived is up the the person themselves, not an anonymous crowd on the internet.

    We only have 1 life, live it to the fullest. F anyone else's opinions. I have NO doubt whatsoever your daughter, when she grows up and gets married and has kids, she's going to be so thankful you gave her life. She should prob have genetic testing though, since you developed your cancer so young..

    Listening to you go thru your process of deciding whether or not to have a child makes me think of how little thought many parents put into this decision. That alone means your little girl is truly a lucky little girl! One of the things that impressed me about you is how thoughtful you are in whatever you do. I find that so impressive! I think your love of life, love for your daughter shine thru and is such a valuable asset. No one has any guarantees in life...bad things happen but being a strong, thoughtful and resilient role model is a gift to your daughter. Much love to your family!

    Love Samantha and her story. What i dont understand though is why the doctors didn't monitor her more closely after she had the baby since she did have stage 4 cancer previously. If she had regular scans, treatment could have been initiated earlier before it spread thoughout her spine. Seems like the care team failed her :(

    It’s very sweet to feel for those people calling you selfish for having a baby. The truth is, those are the angry, self righteous, narcissistic people who insert themselves in everyone’s business with pure negativity and go on every chat/social media site to unleash their terrible personality to make them feel superior. They’re on every single one. So tired of them.

    I want to support you having a baby... I do not have cancer but I'm 48 and never had a baby out of fear...I regret not having a baby ...I only had one parent no father and no involved relatives...the statistics ...I'd be a high school dropout...I'd be promiscuous... I'd never go to college...I graduated.. got a bachelor's degree... Married the guy I met at 15... statistics are bogus... having no fear is really living authentically to me...your daughter is gonna be amazing and she's gonna love her beautiful fearless mom💜

    It isn't a selfish thing to do to have a child. it IS a selfish thing to do to have a child KNOWING you will not be strong and healthy. KNOWING you will likely die during her childhood. KNOWING you will put your husband in the role of single parents.
    Nice that your extended family is loving, but it is disingenuous and condescending to imply the people asking about selfishness are in someway defective for asking the question.

    I'm an MD student.
    Metastatic breast cancer is something I'm very interested in.
    Just a question: where did your cancer come back?
    Are you still bone-only involvement?
    How old are you now?
    Kind regards,
    Vincent
