I just cut off my hip length hair yesterday. I still have about 10 cm left, and I know that will go very soon too. I understand you so well. It will take such a long to grow it all back 😔
I am on my very last chemo and i will be having it this Friday. Thank you so much lord for keeping me strong and brave through these tough months. Total of 6 chemos 🙏
I started my chemo on October 16, 2024 and I am all done. Don't worry you are not alone. I am still anxious about the side effects of my maintenance drugs for 5 years. I have also infusion every 6 months for 3 years. Don't worry we can do this. We are alive and that is all that matters. God is the greatest healer.❤❤❤
Before I had 6 rounds of chemo I had my friend give me a buzz cut. What a relief. No long hairs on a pillow, food, everywhere. I lost hair, but no difference as such because it was 4 mm long. I've kept it super short since then, styled, but very short. Mine used to be stick straight, but now looks cute as pixie with soft wave, softer. And SO easy. Shower, and it is dry in couple minutes. Took my power back before chemo and it made me feel strong and capable. It's been so hot here as summer so no hats or covers, proudly walked around as a woman, I felt like a warrior I am. I knew it would grow back and I just went with the flow. I'm happy, blessed and continuing my treatments with a targeted therapy Avastin. My surgeon looked at me when saw him before 5 hour surgery and simply stated " You are glowing". That was an amazing confirmation and compliment to me. 😊
I lose a whole hairbrush full of hair every time I brush it my hair It was to my waist so I cut it to mid back. I’m on my third chemo scheduled for the fourth before surgery so far have a full head of hair except for thinning in the front… Which is sensitive so I have no idea if I will lose my hair or not, I’m just doing the wait-and-see , I’ve had a pixie in the past and I liked it short, but I got tired of it and I really hated grow out so I’m hoping I don’t lose my hair I have been wearing wraps and hats to protect my scalp when I go out I also watch TV with the ice pack on my head, which seems to really help at least the sensitivity and headaches!
We can do this. I also went thru horrible side effects during my chemo. I am done with chemo but I still have infusion every 6 months for 3 years as a maintenance. We are still alive and fighting and that is all that matters. God is good. God is the greatest physician and healer. ❤❤❤❤
I'm a dude and men naturally lose their hair. So it's more common for a man to be bald. However, losing my hair was rough. I had a nice curly afro that I would style into cool braids and styles. It was hard to give it up. But I decided to take control of the situation and cut it. Took some time to get used to it but I rocked that bald look hard! 😊 Got into the gym, got more muscle, styled more sleek. I definitely plan on growing all of my hair back though, now that I am done.
My first chemo run I tried to wait and it was everywhere. Even in my dogs food. It was awful. The second run I shaved my head ahead of time. Lesson learned
God bless you 🙏🏻 I had my mastectomy two weeks ago. In three weeks I will start my chemotherapy for four months (8 cycles). Thank you for sharing you experience and thank you for all valuable information about how to take care of ourselves during cancer treatment journey
When I finally decided that I am going to shave off my hair I cried in my room while my husband at the garage to drive me to salon. At that time I told myself this is it.. a realization... I am really into treatment and fighting cancer. Once I was at the salon I feel fine, excited to get it all done and hair dresser said I am too positive dealing with cancer. If she only knew. I was anxious about all cancer treatment and side effects. I am blessed I have family and friends who supported me.❤❤❤
I cut my hair into a pixie the night before I started chemo because I knew it would be horrible to watch it fall out and I figured I could donate it and wanted it to be as healthy as possible for that. Cutting my super long hair was still traumatizing for me, but not in the same way. For me it felt like I was taking some control back in a situation that I had no control over. Now I'm 5 months past chemo and my hair is starting to curl. I'm just so happy to have my hair back, even though I wish it was long again :P
It's not just hair, it's having the world know your private health. I feel worse about losing my hair than my breast. It took years to grow. I am 48. When it grows back it might be gray. I am waiting for results. I pray I keep my hair. Than I can keep my cancer private.
I didn't mind losing my hair. Hair does grow back. I didn't want the tumor to grow back. A year later, I have short baby fine hair with no chemo curls. I went through all the treatments and got gypped out of curls! If I didn't have a sense of humor, and my faith, I would have really struggled getting through it all.
I decided to make it something that I could be in control of so before my chemo started I had a short pixie cut, I really liked it. As soon as my hair started to fall out my lovely hairdresser came to my house and shaved it all off and I used beanie hats and scarves. My chemo started last November 2023. I stayed positive about it and always knew my hair would come back. My Chemo finished March 2024. Now in October 2024 I have about an inch of growth, a friend thought I had a salon pixie cut and a silver rinse but no, it's all natural and I love it. I'm still having treatment, immunotherapy once every 3 weeks and I've just finished 15 radiotherapy treatments. My treatment will be complete by end of January 2025. Oh i have triple negative breast cancer, had a Mastectomy but I'm still here. It's been tough but losing my hair was the least of my worries and it's grown back. Good luck to everybody.
When I got diagnosed with cancer and I learned I have to receive chemo that will cause hair loss, I was honestly more upset about the hair loss than the cancer diagnosis. I always had very long and beautiful hair that was also a huge part of my identity, and I decided I would not be witnessing it falling off, and in the end having to throw it in the trash. I found a salon for wigs and made a deal with them to donate my hair and pick up my wig in the same appointment. I got a buzz cut, that’s actually needed for the wig to sit nicely on your head. It was both the most difficult and the smartest decision I ever made. When I started receiving chemo, it didn’t fall off after the first infusion so I started panicking if I rushed with my decision 😅 Maybe I was one of the few miracle cases who didn’t lose their hair!? After the second infusion it started falling off rapidly and everything was full of very short hair. At that moment, I was truly relieved I didn’t have to deal with that on top off all other things. I’ve finished chemo a month ago and it looks now exactly like Dr. Amy’s - I’m looking forward to seeing how it will look like in a couple of months!
I know how you feel It being worse than the Cancer diagnosis. But it's getting Cancer in the first place is why I would go though it in the first place.
I so identify with your hair journey during chemo. I'm now 2 months after my chemo treatment and my hair is sprouting so im still making use of wigs for going out . It's winter and I really feel the loss of my hair. Wearing beanies help but i can't wait for the natural hair growth in the next few months 😊
That's why I'm thankful my Cancer was at first stage. But since I had Cancer twice it causes me a lot of anxiety. I don't want to look like a Cancer patient. I already am ashamed that I turned out being disabled. I would rather not be alive without my hair. My hair was always thick I hate Cancer it's a evil😢 disease. It's one thing when your a man being bald but if your a women no way.
I also lost my hair when going through chemotherapy. Cool caps weren't an option for me because i was simply getting too much chemo for it to have any effect. I am now roughly 10 months post chemo without doing anything to my hair. I decided not to cut my hair because i am also trying to grow it back to normal but after watching this video im unsure if maybe it would be better to just get it cut. I just have a crazy afro atm and I'm not loving it 😂
I braved the shave when my hair came out in frizzled chunks. It was everywhere, so it had to go.I had a thick bob before. My grandaughter cut what was left close to my scalp and I had a look before the clippers came out so that it wouldnt be too big a shock.A couple of weeks on Im used to it now.Four more treatments to go .Being older I am finding that very few people actually look at me in my scarves and thats ok with me.I do look forward to my hair growing back though!
I agree with you about the start. I wanted to take control of my hair. I cut to pixie then buzzed. I couldn’t stand the thought of long strands of hair everywhere.
I just had my daughter shave it at week 3,,I was tired of eating it as it fell out everywhere. I started wearing the scarf from the get go,,so when I shaved it no one would need to freak out.
I wasn’t worried to start off with and shaved it all off after the 1st week of chemo. It felt worse for me for it to fall out in chunks and be devastated. I’m 7 months post chemo and it’s come back curly(was not before). I still don’t feel or look like myself and struggle some days. I will get there though 😊
Exactly. I have been two years after chemo and my hair still hasn’t grown back that much. It’s literally gone to the bottom of my chin and I can’t get it to grow anymore than that. I’m a red head also I was at stage three I had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma large bee cell. It was literally from the top of my neck to my growing, like it was literally covered. I didn’t realize how bad it really was until I saw pictures after chemotherapy because my oncologist wouldn’t let me see the pictures.
I had chemo June - Sept and I live in central Texas which had record temps this summer. I opted for hats instead of wigs. It was just too hot. I already had short pixie hair starting treatment. Got a buzz cut in early July when hair started coming out. Now I"n 5 weeks out of chemo and my hair barely looks much different from the time I got my buzz cut. Eager for the "bald" spots to start filling in. Fall temps in Austin can go back and forth ; it can go from 80F to 40F and back again in 1 week. Not sure what's going on with my eyebrows...lol. There 1/3 of a brow on one side and the other brow is mostly intact. Meh. I'm just so ready to get back to the approximate length of what you had 3 months post chemo.
My hospital (in the Netherlands) offered cool cap treatment during chemo, which I used. My hair was already greying from mid blond (I was 47 then) and a little shorter than shoulder length, in layers. 3 Months into the chemo treatment period (6 months total) my hair started to get thinner. So my hairdresser cut it in a shorter, layered bob, just below jaw. I also did some dying, which was succesfull. I lost about half of it in total by the end. I did lose my brows and lashes (and other body hair) completely. About 3 months after chemo my brows and lashes returned. I also noticed very short hairs on the scalp by then. It became very unstylable by that time🤨 I'm 7 months after finishing chemo now, and it's settling now and becoming part of the rest of the hair. I do notice a bit of a wave in the new hairs, but I expect that it will become straight again in the long run. I haven't done anything to speed up the proces, I must add.
I’m 16 months post chemo and just feel not like myself. Hair is growing good in back (thick and curls!) but top of my head is thinner and doesn’t seem to be growing as much. Can’t do anything with it. Looks like a mullet. I had 6 rounds docetaxel/carbo (stage 1A OCCC)
I was in the same boat having been in a study with 2 chemos that didn't work and then immediately going into an immunotherapy study. Have endocrinologist check your vitamin D3 and B12... important! Also at the hair salon I was told the first hair growth is still chemo hair so you should get rid of it again which I did...came in better but then had the vitamin deficiency issue and it was falling out AGAIN so shaved my head a 3rd time and now finally my hair is coming back as thick as before just not as curly.... it's beyond traumatizing but hang in there ❤
My hair was shoulder-length and I lost it because I got a 6 cm tumor in my balls and I was treated with surgery and some chemo. Now I'm here, alive, with one testicle, a very weird 3 cm hair, but I'm happy thought. I'm curious about what my new hair will like lmao
It’s been a year and a half for me and my hair is still short. It has hardly even grown. I did get a cut so once it grows, it’ll be a lot easier to style, but it did not grow very much at all not even past my shoulders. I shaved my head when it started falling out. It’s so devastating when it happens
Question: it's summer and warm. Going out with a head covering and mask is so hot. I took a walk bald headed yesterday. My head is super sunburned now. What's worse for eventual hair-regrowth? Sunburn or using sunscreen on your head? Thanks for any advice!
My hair grew back extremely thin when I had very thick hair. I have a third of the hair. Any tips or suggestions to thicken my hair? I'm Canadian too😊. Congratulations on surviving cancer

@@dramycancerrecoveryI know how you feel when I got radio active iodine done to me. My eyebrows are sparced so I have to use eyebrow pencil to hide the bald spots. I would have done things different then I did.
I had no problems losing my hair. When it starting falling out I had my husband shave my head. And I chose not to wear a wig or hats or scarfs. Didn't bother me at all.
I have probably said this before. I used the Paxman cold cap system during chemo. It kept about 85-90% of my hair and I would highly recommend it. I donated my cold cap back to the Paxman donation program.
@@mrsalfalah8883my mom used it and kept all her hair during chemo. That helped with the her emotions and well being. When she started the immunotherapy that did cause her hair to fall. But i recommend it. She felt like a princess during chemo and that’s what was important.
i am morw than 2 years after chemo I ve been threw all these curly phases regrow till shoulders, got haircut like almost exactly 2 y after and my hair started to fall after vacation also thinning and lota of breakage... Now my hair is very thin at the ends and I have again lots of thin baby hairs.. Dont know anyone with the same problem and I dont really believe its only one androstendione hormone high level caused the problem (probably ive always had high), been always with wavy hair prone to breakage but now im upset I didnt regrow them long i have to cut it again i think... anyone had same problem after ovary cancer😢
I'm not sick but I shave it now I feel so bad about my self you can't imagine how it's so hard to deal with this is the second day it's just terrible my english is not very good I'm sorry now I don't now what to do 😢😢
Hey Dr. Amy, how did you combat the mullet phase? I'm there now and decided to get an undercut, I dont know the right way of doing it. I'm doing whatever I can to feel good in my skin. But this mullet phase is hard, it made want to shave my head all over again.
Yes. I understand this. I did lots of small trims to just the back of my head. It’s natural that the back will turn into a mullet. The top has to catch up. So just trim up the back while you wait for the top to catch up 🙌🏻
Its been two years exactly since I finished chemo and my hair is just barely level with my jaw. I was dark blonde all my life and now my hair has come back as dark brown which is really strange. Everywhere I look online just says that our hair returns to it's natural colour after 6 months but mine hasn't returned to the dark blonde at all. My hair has become wavy too which is different from a lifetime of pin straight hair. Even more strange are my eyebrows which have partially returned but not completely. Is this normal?

Question: it's summer and warm. Going out with a head covering and mask is so hot. I took a walk bald headed yesterday. My head is super sunburned now. What's worse for eventual hair-regrowth? Sunburn or using sunscreen on your head? Thanks for any advice!
My hair grew back extremely thin when I had very thick hair. I have a third of the hair. Any tips or suggestions to thicken my hair? I'm Canadian too😊. Congratulations on surviving cancer
Rosemary oil. You can also check out some of my more recent videos. I have one on 10 foods to incorporate for fast and healthy hair after chemo that you may find particularly helpful!
@@dramycancerrecoveryI know how you feel when I got radio active iodine done to me. My eyebrows are sparced so I have to use eyebrow pencil to hide the bald spots. I would have done things different then I did.
I keep saying its just hair but really i know its gonna be scary..mines just started so i have decided to shave it all off 🙃
Thank you ❤
I had no problems losing my hair. When it starting falling out I had my husband shave my head. And I chose not to wear a wig or hats or scarfs. Didn't bother me at all.
Me too 🙏🙏🙏
I can't do this. I cannot. Im going to look so ugly. I don't have the right shape head.
You won't be ugly
You will not be ugly you are a beautiful strong woman with a terrible illness don't let it win I can see your picture..gorgeous ❤
I have probably said this before. I used the Paxman cold cap system during chemo. It kept about 85-90% of my hair and I would highly recommend it. I donated my cold cap back to the Paxman donation program.
From where did you buy it? Can you shared the link please
I will start my chemotherapy in three weeks. Thank you so much for your🙏🏻
I used it too, still lost all my hair.
@@mrsalfalah8883 My best wishes go out to you for a full recovery...I'm due to start treatment this week.
Its been a year half .my hair still thin
