    When I was younger, there was this parking lot lined with these flat rocks that would flake apart when you hit them hard enough. I would knock off pieces and find tiny crystals inside. Clear squared ones, some purple-ish ones and brown-ish black ones that I think were quartz or something. I still have them around somewhere.

    I absolutely love the parts where you whisper or speak very very softly. The sound of the crystals and minerals gently tapping each other was also very pleasing! :)

    Chycho Just discovered this video. Would never have guessed you had a mineral collection. I greatly enjoyed it. I studied Geology at school and come from a long line of miners. I did well at geology but didn’t pursue a career in it. Sometimes think I should have.
    Galena (PbS) is my favourite.

    • @chycho

    *Beautiful Crystal and Mineral Collection.* The bubbly one is at 17:54 hematite i think. 22:57 on the quartz crystal looks like Rose Pink Rhodochrosite. At 32:37 looks like a Obsidian Arrowhead. (like in Teotihuacan, Mexico) at 33:52 is Augite i think. Tibetan Quartz is know to have black spots occlusions within them. At 39:33 Onyx ball maybe. At 40:44 sugilite Maybe, At 52:15 agate, 52:45 Pyrite, 54:15 Amethyst, 1:00:57 (blue) Agate, 1:02:19 citrien, (and a lot of beautiful Quartz) Wow nice Big Quartz at 1:07:57, 1:15:34 Lapis, 1:29:41 Nice Natural pyrite cube on a rock. 1:31:14 Blue Kyanite. I wonder if I guessed couple right.

    I believe your first sample is malachite and azurite. The sample at 11:32 is fluorite - a product of hydrothermal fluid percolating through the granite bedrock. A very fine sample indeed.

      As far as I see it, life is definitely worth smiling about, not just because of how sweet it can be, but also about its absurdity.

    Coolest guy on You Tube hands down. Your comic book collection is amazing. You've helped to rekindle my love for the hobby and now I see you collect crystals as well which is also a big interest of mine. Just wondering if you have ever seen the TV show "Prospectors"? I believe it comes on the Weather Channel.

    • @chycho
      @chycho  8 лет назад

      Thanks, Eddy. Love sharing so it is awesome to see others enjoying the same. As for Prospectors, no, never seen it. I'm guessing it's work the watch? Yes?
      For me, since the comic book world exploded on the networks I've mainly been focused on watching comic book related shows and movies. So much out there.

    • @eddya.3776
      @eddya.3776 8 лет назад

      Oh yes check it out it's basically about four or five groups of people in Colorado that mine crystals and gems out of the ground and off of Mount Antero. I hear you on the comic related shows though as I can't get enough of Comic Book Men the Kevin Smith show about Jay and Silent Bob's Stache in Red Bank New Jersey. I'm sure you've seen that one.

      I just finished watching a couple of clips from Prospectors. Wow! They are not taking it easy on that show. Yikes!
      As for the other shows, I've watch some random segments but haven't been following the shows. Love jay and Silent Bob's movies, the early ones anyway. Might be nice to get a taste of their work again.

    Hi Chycho!
    Big fan of yours. I was also an aspiring Earth and Space scientist and was wondering if there were any good beginner books on geophysics that reads like a normal book, and not so much like a textbook if that makes sense.

    • @chycho
      @chycho  5 лет назад +1

      For sure it makes sense, zak, and a great question, but unfortunately I don't. Wish I did. Some of the courses I took were even just booklets put together by the profs, and most were not good. There are good earth science books though, those I enjoyed a lot, but the geophysics I mainly learned by doing. Setting up surveys, collecting data, analyzing and interpreting the data, etc. The geophysics part, I usually just considered math, and most of that I learned outside of the geophysics classes.

    • @chycho
      @chycho  5 лет назад +1

      That said, geophysics is basically using instruments to collect some sort of data, which you then use to learn things about the area of interest. It's very much like what they do in medicine, use instruments to see inside your body. In geophysics you just use instruments to see what's inside the earth, or out in space and other planets.

    • @MrZak-rf3vq
      @MrZak-rf3vq 5 лет назад +1

      @@chycho Thank you so much that was very helpful and inspiring. I am so focused on learning so much that I forget the most important part is to actually go out and experiment with Earth instead of just reading about it.
      I love your work! It's appreciated and loved by many.

    Hey Chycho...
    I am amazed u do lots of different variety of amazing videos.ur knowledge is vast..
    Yours and mine hobbies r same...I too love collecting plants and stones as well coin collection and as well stamps from childhood...but I lost all my stones as I got married and my family didn't knew what to do with it...sadly don't know where all went...Now I want all of them but God knows how I can get or buy different types of crystal..if u know any place I can buy let me know..

    • @chycho
      @chycho  6 лет назад

      Oh no! I've lost a few collections over the years as well and it sucks, big time. What I usually end up doing is slowly build up again, which is what it sounds like you want to do. Unfortunately, I don't have any good sources for crystals. One thing I have done in the past though is look for rock/mineral/crystal deposits/quarry's in my area and go hunting for them. Not sure if that's viable anymore since I did this a long long time ago but it might be a good place to start, and it won't cost very much except for time.

      I've actually done a lot of videos on quadratics in The language of Mathematics playlist. They basically start in Series IIIa with Videos #78 and #79. They're not as chill as ASMR Math but they do cover a lot of material. Take a look at them and see if they'll help you out. You can find the Table of Contents here: chycho.blogspot.ca/2010/01/language-of-mathematics-table-of.html
      The videos do jump around a little bit and you'll find it continues into Series IIIb. Let me know if you need any help and if there is anything that you can't find and I'll see what I can do to put it all together for you. Cool?
      Here is Video #78: ruclips.net/video/tdQiGcac5dY/видео.html

    another great, tingle inducing video. on a fairly unrelated note, DC is releasing omnibus versions of both the George Perez and Greg Rucka runs of wonder woman, as well as an 800 page collection of her golden age stories. If you ever wanted some great, instant WW collections, I cant reccommend pre-ordering those on amazon enough. And the Gail Simone trades are top notch too. Any opportunity I have to turn people on to good WW stories, I take it.
