  • The customer was so HAPPY to hear that his beloved 2004 Toyota Avalon was back to full health NO PARTS REQUIRED, that he asked me to address a few other small issues to really make it PERFECT:
    -P0442 - Small EVAP Leak
-Loud THUMP over bumps in the rear end
-Dash Illumination: Backlight for Odometer, "P", HVAC module buttons
Let's do the final repairs on this Toyota and bring it back to like-new factory condition :)

    Moral of the story:
If you’re going to do diagnostics, you need the test equipment (including Alldata) and the skill to collect the data that proves what’s wrong.
Throwing parts at a repair is not troubleshooting.

Perfect, Ivan! Probably, the most expensive parts for the repair were the light bulbs 🙂
I keep wondering if there was a temperature alarm bulb, behind the temperature indicator. If there was, it should now light, in case of overheating, once you replaced them all 🙂

Pretty sure there is a hot warning light, and the check engine light should also come on if it overheats. Many people call them idiot lights, but they will catch your eye quicker than just a gauge.

Those mini bulbs are t3 and t4. Available at the dealer. I ended up replacing every interior bulb in my Corolla. The LED bulbs are also available on eBay.

My MKIV golf didn't have HVAC illumination but after doing research found out that the HVAC module got it's illumination from the factory radio which received a CAN bus signal to turn on the illumination. If you replaced the factory radio with an aftermarket one, then you loose HVAC illumination. Im sure you could tap into another illumination circuit but after finding that out, I just gave up and lived with dark HVAC controls. I remember as a kid watching my mom fix Christmas lights that way. She had an entire kit of bulbs and various tools to ensure every strand was working. She would spend hours making sure it was all 100% before putting them up. When the season was over, she would wrap them around rolls of news paper to ensure they never got tangled up. Every single year I would watch her for hours testing strands and replacing bulbs the same way by undoing the tiny wires and pulling them out of the sockets. She would take strands that didn't work anymore and remove all of the bulbs to refresh her kit of Christmas light repair. Watching you dig that bulb out of the socket just reminded me of the good ol times.
