“I'm escaping to the one place that hasn't been corrupted by the mongrel dogs of the empire: space!”
- Dagoth Ur
Well, when we went to the moon briefly in ESO: Elsewyr, it was a great time. Interplanetary travel with ES trippiness and colorful whimsy actually sounds like so much fun, especially if they're digging up the good lore to do it.
ESO doing more to keep Kirkbride's lore alive than the mainline games
In many ways that's quite true!@@TheCantinaChannel
Awakened:
Elder Scrolls games are set on Nirn. Nirn is in space. All elder scrolls games are space games.
Yep, World of Warcraft works off that same logic but even trippier because Starcraft takes place in the same universe, which means Earth exists and is a planet that, theoretically, you could travel to in a future World of Warcraft expansion if they added it.
In ESO's Elswyer Expansion, the main quest takes you to a moon through a portal or something, it's been awhile since I've played it
Are you sure that wasn't just a dream you hallucinated after ingesting a boat load of Skooma?
What XDDDD no
"Stop right there alien scum!! You violated the international space law!!!"
😂😂
There is also C0DA, a script for a graphic novel that Kirkbride wrote that takes place on one of Nirn's moons in the fifth era after Numidium suddenly came back and absolutely wrecked the planet.
Bring back cantina videos like this more often or I riot
Agreed, really enjoyed this one.
I agree, but won´t riot. It´s all good men.
@@ungreatfulduck750eh but rioting is more fun
Starfield really grew me over time as I work to gain over 300k credits for that sweet ride at Neon that can go up to 27 light years in space. What a huge leap!
Thank you for the Power Rangers in Space reference that I, a fellow old nerd also got.
I feel like an idea like this is could have worked but only if you made the moon like, extremely weird and dense with content. Not like a Starfield moon but like, Fromsoftware have a couple of old games, called Echo Night, which havent aged fantastically, but are set on Earths moon in the future and absolutely insane and make the Moon an extremely interesting setting.
I love your script based videos
When they announced Starfield, I immediately thought about C0DA and was secretly dreaming that Starfield was going to actually be SURPRISE Elder Scrolls 6.
Surely the ship would have also been Molag Bal's benis.
Probably
Another very interesting video on some fun facts about the Elder Scrols series that i can probably not find anywhere else 🔥👌
Also shoutout to the cancled Tatterdemalion mod, it was originally going to be a Skyrim mod exploring the moon
ya I saw that while doing research for this and was Oh! then oh... when i realized it was never finished.
I like these videos about behind the scenes game dev stuff / trivia. Very interesting
I do remember when finally getting into the rabbitwhole that is CODA and Kirkbride´s whole ideas for where the series should lead, and while I personally like how things turn out for the most part (I think we can all agree Skyrim was missing tons of Lore, thankfully TESO is an statement about not doing that ever again), you can´t deny things would have being a lot different and weirder if Todd was out of the picture and he had stayed on Bethesda.
you seriously should do more content on this channel i love almost all your vids on this channel lol i listen to you when im at work
Oblivion is kinda Space in Elder Scorlls, with Aetherius being wrapped around it I think
ya I think that's the generally idea now
Hit me with the Power Rangers In Space Nostalgia, and Elders Scrolls excitement. Great stuff. Didn't expect it. 🧙🏼♂
Honestly, going to Secunda would've been interesting as a DLC.
i'd like to hear more about the design concept!
Great vid, my man, I've literally never heard of this.
👍
awesome video! What a crazy story!
never ask about the moon vault
When I saw the words Elder Scrolls and Moon in the same sentence, I knew it was a Kirkbride creation.
Michael Kirkbrides on so many drugs his ideas are so crazy and far fetched that they are actually good
Technically speaking, depending on how you interpret TES' definition of "space" and going there, we already got our TES Space Game: Battlespire. At least, if you accept the idea that The Battlespire was basically a magic fantasy-babble space station like it seems to be
I believe in the game itself definitely confirms that to not be true, and exists in a separate plane of existence which was later confirmed to just be Oblivion.
Elder scrolls online stories pretty good, it's the end game community an some other communities within plus zos just giving no shits about the customers that get it down vote from me, but lore wise I'm okay with that being canon
Secundeez nuts
As far as "space" in TES, I'm under the impression that the surfaces of Nirn, Masser, and Secunda and the area immediately around them is the full extent of the physical universe. We know, for example, that there are no stars (or even a sun) in TES. What weird-ass lore these games have.
No more weird than the lore where we call it "the milky way" because of the milk spilled after Hercules bited Hera´s tit. Or the Chinese lore where is a river of silver. Or the African lore where is the backbone of night deity covering the world.
By the way, not to get trippy, but your description is the most common Tamrielic current idea of space... not to say it´s a scientifical fact. "Unreliable Narrator" and what not.
True, but at the same time this WAS the reality many of our ancestors thought we lived in. That this world was all there was and that the stars, moon and sun were all mystical forces. It makes sense that a fantasy world would work like that then.
@@symbiotesoda1148 Precisely. Since Daedra exist we are lead to belive no matter how weird the "canon" must be true, but we have to take into account their obvious technological disadvantages. As much as Michael K. wrote a lot about space, or mods add 3rd models of the planet and it´s moons, canonically as far as we know, no space exploration or master levitator that went beyond the stratosphere. Tamriel may as well be a planet on a distant star while on earth Fallout series is happening.
i didnt know there was elderscrolls shit i didnt know at this point. cool video
Im the only One waiting for the remastered of Oblivion setted for next year?
Nah, man. Moon would be less boring in TES. For example, maybe some weirdo mage is already there building a theme park with blackjack and hookers
maybe in the lore, in reality it would have been a boring wasteland where everybody keeps talking about the cool stuff we'll never see or do.
Come on, DLC on the Moon would rock
DLC maybe. A game just on the moon though...
Did we not visit a city on the moon in one of the Morrowind expansion packs? Is my memory that shit?
well there is tribunal which was just on the mainland of Morrowind, not the moon though
Do you think Bethesda spends more on technology development and research than developing quest recently. I love their games but I do think their ambition have made them do lot of new feats. But it might get them less time and budget in the actual quest crafting.
Bethesda is hit or miss.
Depending on how much you take Kirkbride's and others' writing on the lore of the TES universe, there's SO much strange stuff. Definitely look into the Wheel of Lull and Aethernautics mods for Skyrim if you haven't. They both explore aspects of time/reality/space that are in the lore but didn't make it into the games, and they also are compatible with each other.
epic
Devils advocate: This COULD work, but with a LOT OF TWEAKING.
First of all: ditch anything sci-fi related. Instead, what if there was a race of people who lived on the moon? They'd probably have incredibly unique magic and culture.
Second of all: Make the moon interesting. Add biomes and settlements and stuff like that. Its already implied the moons have magical properties so why not make them capable of having interesting diversity? We've been dying for a game set in an alien environment like Morrowind was.
As far as I'm concerned, you wouldn't even need to connect the dwellers of Nirn to this whatsoever. I mean, why would they go to the moon if the people on the moon have never made their presence known anyway?
Ultimately, its probably better this game didn't get made, but if done right it could've been pretty cool. Either that or you could just take this idea and make an actually good version of Starfield.
Jesus loves you!❤
Jesus needs to understand that parasocial relationships are not healthy
At this point ESO is on par with the nokia game for me. I've never seen a team of writers bastardize and shit all over a setting so much as if it was their designated toilet.
ESO is not canon!
It is and it is not at the same time for several reasons. Number one, dragonbreaks. Number two, happended before Daggerfall events. Number three, Bethesda has not deny or confirm canonicity. So the only way to know if it´s canon, it´s the next game. Since TESVI will happen in an area we have visited in TESO, depending on how much or how little TESO depiction of the area or the culture are similar on TESVI, the more we can disclousure if Bethesda did took in consideration Zenimax Online work.
If the entire Redguard culture in TESVI is similar to the one appearing in TESO minus the Redguard Adventures inclution, then TESO may as well be canon despite all the Dragon Breaks in the middle. Same as Arena is canon even though also Dragon Breaks are involved.
The canon of this lore is far more fluid than it you intended to be mate, not my oppinion, the factual intention of the developers to justify each player head canon. Same as every new character you create as the Dragonborn, is canon, ever hear of multiversal fiction? It´s 2023 and every IP has a multiverse, don´t tell me you didn´t notice Bethesda starter their pretty much after every single game made after Daggerfall?
Why not Masser, it is a lot massier, if you get my meaning. Secunda seems a poor choice. But there is source material here on earth. There are a great many of stories about our moon. Operas were written about how the moon was settled and how the society there was structured. In the 18. century there were a number of sf stories about this. Lots of these stories were about how the moon was a country ruled by women. To wit read here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Il_mondo_della_luna
ya I thought the same thing, masser seems like a better choice.
