It's like the devs don't know what made TDU so great, they think it should be Forza, WTF! How can you get this so wrong, they should have come out guns blazing showing all the stuff you can't get in Forza not copying that crap.

A company hiring "influencers" to sell their product is a huge red flag. It shows that they don't have faith that the product can sell on its own merits and that they believe the customers are dumb enough to let popular people's opinion sway them!

I had the same thought, but to be fair, I looked up the BlackPanthaa guy and watched some of his videos on the game leading up to this showcase and after and he seems to really understand what made TDU and TDU2 great and has some of the same reservations we do.

All they had to do was a nice graphics upgrade on TDU2. Loved that game, completed it. I recall the achievement to travel every metre of the map. Was very immersive, cruising around, visiting places, quite a unique gameplay loop. That's what defined the game, made it stand out.
The handling and physics in TDU2 were awful, I hope they fixed that

@@HansFriedrich532 Maybe not you but the reason TDU is even still somewhat popular is because the core fans are still interested in that. I myself would love an updated TDU2. Obviously not the same exact game, but he means the same core features and feeling of the game. Just update the graphics, give it a non-cringy story, and fix the physics and you got a game TDU fans want.

That doesn’t mean anything though, even solar crown has many features that no other triple a racing game has had since tdu2. This video just doesn’t give it justice (also Alex vii is a very prominent TDU RUclipsR, not Forza or tc2. Just go watch his videos if you’re interested in this game)

EXACTLY! There is essential no new games nowadays as they are all corporate soul sucking garbage. All it takes is one racing to sold millions of copies and all the smaller titles have to follow suits otherwise the investors won't budge. This industry is destroyed, every single design and development choices are based """proven""" sales chart and ((market research)) instead of brand loyalty and creativity. AAA video games will never be good again unless corporate is destroyed.

I still remember TDU to this day, and solar crown has been on my wishlist on steam since it was announced. Sadly, now I will have to come to grips that this game probably is going to be an absolute dumster fire.

I disagree that Forza is bad. I think Forza Horizon 4 is one of my favourite arcade racers. However, it's meant to be a different type of game to Test Drive Unlimited and both have their place. I certainly want Test Drive Unlimited to stay focussed on the driving/lifestyle and not go the route of Forza. They should remain separate and be completely different games, so if the new TDU tries to be Forza, it will simply fail.
Remember doing the car delivery mission, if one tyre touched a single blade of grass 😂
TDU 1 and 2 at times had really unpredictable handling. But that made it all the more rewarding when you survived a delivery mission more or less without damage. I never had such moments of pure happiness in any other game after that.
@@benn8793 I put some hours into that game did really enjoy it, not getting the same vibes with this new one but there is still hope. If I remember correctly, for discovering all roads didn't you get a custom orange Ford Mustang?
@@gavinwilliams6000 I honestly don't remember about the Mustang. Unfortunately, I don't get any Test Drive vibe from the new game at the moment. I was really hyped before the first gameplay. After that, unfortunately, not so much.
@benn8793 I remember I was like 8 or 9, I was on 360 doing all the vehicle delivery on TDU1, and just driving at like 30 - 60 mph the entire time

Mac you nailed it...this presentation was the worst approach they could have...i was hopping that solar crown will take its rightful 1st. place in racing genre again but im starting to be littlebit worried...We are living in the worst gaming decade last couple of years...btw thank you for your hard work.Even when im PISSED OFF and tired of these companies atleast I can have great time and laugh in your reviews.

What made TDU great was having the HUGE map to cruise at top speed at. This small map is going to get old real quick!
It's a sizable map of extreme complexity with lots of high speed areas and loads to discover. A joy to drive and explore.

Just imagine the triggering if they added car wash in the new game. It would be glorious.
I can understand the frustration that this demo may not have been able to please everyone. The core idea being to show off some actual unscripted gameplay rather than a 2 min gameplay trailer, or scripted E3 style demo. But I can assure you this is an authentic TDU experience (minus the car wash for obvious reasons) that includes most of the elements you enjoyed about the previous versions. You'll earn your cars, bond with them, maximise their performance on your journey. The handling is satisfying, ideal for cruising, or going hell for leather. Racing is part of TDU, as are the many challenges and options to be revealed in the months ahead. I'm confident that when you see future builds, the game structure and the player journey, you'll find something for you.

Fingers crossed. 🤞🏾 It was pretty cool to see you all racing together. I noticed the hud dials all being the same, which is only a minor thing, but I loved how in the previous TDU games, each vehicle had their respective dials on bumper & chase cams. 👌🏾

Alex vii has a video on his channel that was WAY better than the live reveal in my opinion. Actually explains a lot of things rather than watching 6 people crash into each other constantly.

1:14 couldnt agree more! I love the grind to earn cars, once you get the car you want, you feel so achieved. I'll only have about 6 cars in a racing game, but I'll truly get attached to them.
With Forza you need to turn on simulation steering and turn off traction control and stability manager and perhaps ABS, but I generally run with ABS. The default settings are made for beginners.
Hey, I get your fears and doubts. We all want TDUSC to be a true TDU game. We need people like you to join the official server and make your voice heard. KT is actually listening to a lot of feedback from the beginning. A lot more than other companies. Just remember that its their first time making an open world game like this, with limited funding and a small team. We have the same game director as TDU2 tho, and he also worked on TDU1. So on a lot of features, he knows what he's doing. Some things have been changed or left out, and I don't agree with everything either, but this game has a lot of potential. We just opened a feedback thread channel on the official discord. Don't be shy and come join to make your feedback (respectfully) known, so that KT and Nacon see what things are most important to us now. They actually care. Help us make TDU become the game it deserves to be 🙏😇
From the looks of things, it's already three quarters of the way done. I'm not sure how much feedback is really gonna be effectual at this point.

@@DJSPYROOF Sorry, man, but I'm a BIG believer in getting it right ON LAUNCH. You can't get that back. Also, are they gonna print discs with the subpar game onto it and then force updates just to get access to a game that doesn't suck? That's bullshit. And even if it wasn't, barely anybody's gonna wait around patiently for updates anyway unless you pull a full No Man's Sky or a Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition and show that you're fully willing and dedicated to improve the game above and beyond what was expected of you for YEARS with little or no pay coming in.
So yeah, get it right the FIRST time. The fact alone that we even have to give them feedback to not be like Forza Horizon is embarrassing for them and probably indicates that they never even knew what fans wanted out of a new Test Drive game in the first place. This is crap that should have been sufficiently answered WELL before production began.

What is not mentioned is how good the actual gameplay was as well. The heft and inertia of the cars was excellent and the open roads were great to drive on.
Most fun I ever had driving around an open world.
And it was a subtle detail, but a much appreciated one, that each car had its own odometer that showed total miles driven.

Absolutely agree with you. Definitely looks like they have completely missed everything that was good about TDU1. I used to love hooking up and driving round Hawaii with a group of Japanese friends. It was just so liberating. Really looking after the car and just being immersed in clocking up the miles...... The footage I have just seen.... doesn't capture ANY of that... they fucked it up for sure!
You can still hook up and drive round Oahu - TDU 1 Platinum mod.
The physics are on a decent simulation level in Hardcore mod.

That was exactly my first impression when I saw the livestream. The presentation actually started quite well. The bit with the hotel looked somewhat like TDU. But after that it went quickly south. I agree with you that TDU is more about lifestyle than racing. That's what has always set the series apart from other racing games. What they showed in that half hour could have been almost any racing game, if you didn't look closely.
All I saw from these influencers was crashing. For a bunch of people who live and breathe racing games, I don't understand how almost none of them could control their vehicle. Maybe it's the physics?
Anyway, Mack, you are such a legend! Speaking nothing but truth! I'm not sure if you know, but TDU 2 has been kept alive with Project Paradise 2 and another online mod. It's so great to play through the game again with other people, I've even braved it on my wheel, which is pretty fun. Thanks for the video. ✌🏾

Watched the Test drive unlimited solar crown presentation and all I could think about is Mac's reaction, I was not disappointed.
What’s annoying is most people who saw the livestream weren’t feeling what was shown and I remember some comments stating it looks like Forza but these RUclipsrs that were invited to the live stream and play the game are actually against fans voicing their concerns even though it doesn’t look like Test Drive in my opinion, and they are using the “oh it’s alpha gameplay” as a shield but we all know it won’t change much if at all before release. Furthermore how can you release a Test Drive game without the ability to buy houses at launch

Showrooms look great, you have an apartment rather than a house, there are the Streets and Sharps factions, plus so many new things to experience no other game does. It's a full TDU experience.

You will get a new TDU, this contains almost all of the elements and progression from that game.

Mack, you gotta keep in mind that this is alpha gameplay. If you watch Alex Vll's video on it, it goes more in depth of the gameplay about how you can roll the windows down, use your left/right turn signals, take the roof on and off, use windshield wipers, use hazard lights, etc. There are 🅿️ symbols all over the map, as well as dealerships and hidden wrecks.
The way they showed the game was pretty awful, but seeing things like that make me pretty excited.
Yes I know it has show rooms, a hotel, electric windows, doors u can open in show rooms, I get all the newsletters but the fact they used their first gameplay to do a Forza is alarming as it' was a small part of what TDU was in it's earlier incarnations.

I feel the same way I was super disappointed about the game play, they have a lot of things to fix, great video man.
I've taken so many shots every time Mack has said "Test Drive Unlimited 2" over the years that my brain has ceased functioning normally
Never played the second one, but TDU was one of my first 360 games - and having been a PC gamer before making that switch, I was blown away by it - it just seemed like a vast limitless game at the time; and an amazing (for me at least) intro into 'next gen' console gaming.
I remember trying to get my first F430, having to do race after race to get enough money - then buying one, and feeling like I actually achieved something; at that time it was quite rare to see them on the virtual roads, so you got to feel like you owned something special - albeit in a virtual realm.
And finding the MV garage, and buying the F4! What a rush that was, belting around the island seeing off most 4 wheelers :D Heck, even the big around the island race felt like an achievement - 60 minutes and a cool million quid (or thereabouts iirc), it was my go to churn to get a few more supercars in my garage.
This new one though.... It's a Forza Horizon clone, and why oh why pick a bunch of idiotic 'influencers' to sell it, they hold power over their followers, who probably won't translate into paying customers.
Such a shame.

Hey Mack, wanted to let you know that you were the main reason why I went out and got Test Drive Unlimited 2 for my PS3 (the PC port for it was trash from what I've heard) a year ago and let me tell ya I fully understand why you hold it in such high regard as I have really enjoyed it myself. Even going as far as playing the solo campaign three times in a row (a damn shame the servers were cut off back in 2018). But yeah, if this new Test Drive does not even capture a half of the magic Test Drive Unlimited 2 had I might just pass on it.
I literally could not agree with you more. You completely and totally get it! When I saw this I was so mad I was nearly in tears. I was so hyped to have a test drive, as I remembered it, but with some better handling. Come on, KT surely could have delivered that! Why did they have to make a NFS Forza hybrid. Yuck

It is a Test Drive as you remember it, it's nothing like FH or NFS. Gameplay, progression, car ownership, it's all there.

Same here, I've been waiting for a good TDU for the past 15 years like many of us? and now hearing that the studio and the devs who worked in this game have nothing to do with the original TDU, and the gameplay and the level design didn't look good at all. I'm not just disappointed but sad honestly.
I highly doubt TDUSC will be as good as TDU2. There's so little footage of it and the little pieces we have seen so far really shows how much the game is missing and lacking compared to TDU2. Closed beta/playtest with influencers is another sign that they're trying to shove down a garbage product into everyone's throat. Looks like yet another flop AAA game unfortunately.
I know how much you adore and love the Test Drive series so it hurts to see you fans of the series treated with something subpar!
I just hope they focused on the driving and left all the good stuff for later presentations, the poker and gambling, the housing, hell even collecting vintage car parts, we need all that stuff back.
dev's now are chaseing the easy road to money, and not the art of makeing a fun and enjoyable game.
This change in direction of this franchise reminds me of the Dead Rising games.
Whenever the Japanese developers hand over the project to a western developer, it completely looses its identity in exchange for casualisation.

At least Forza actually feels fucking great to drive on. The uncanny amount of hate for the way the lowest common denominator play Forza was pretty wild as a first time viewer not gonna lie. You can literally make that same analogy for practically any game ever made when you only look at what the morons playing it do. That being said Solar crowns driving looked absolutely all over the fucking place. Never mind all the other stuff it doesn't have that you'd expect from a Test Drive game. I mean the driving here looked like it made the TDU driving look good and the driving on those games is; tbh pretty fucking shit.
We're not the main clients that AAA Companies wants anymore. We're "too old". They need the new generation of gamers, that's why we get "Forza-likes" and Action Button Mashing "RPGs".

I have both crew games and currently waiting for motorfest to come out. The crew 2 and 1 are nothing like Forza. You don’t get babied through the game with cars tossed at you. Yeah you get unlocks by playing some events and stuff but the cars you buy are way better and harder to earn. I love moving all my cars around in the garage and all. Cant wait for motorfest. If it’s gonna be good. Seems promising

What did you expect? A full game in such short time? Nowadays it takes years to make a game. The game is in alpha stage. Far from release. Things can change.

3 and 4 were the peak for me, but am hoping 8 will be good.

I'm looking forward to your review of this game Mack. I hope this will be the ultimate Test Drive experience. Unfortunately, games are made for normies these days and not the dedicated gamer so we'll have to wait and see. I've got everything crossed for this one.
When I watched the gameplay reveal for the first time, I was
shocked to see influencers, promoting the game. Usually, when this happens, it means something ain't right with the game. So they try to use these influencers to sell the game.
I have to agree with the guy in this video, it looks like the devs are trying to pull players from Horrizon, to this game, catering to Horrizon players, whilst ignoring what made the first two games great. I've seen this happen so many times in big franchises, they start branching out, trying to compete with other games doing the same thing, but kinda lose vision of what made their games great. I truly hope like the guy in the video, that TDUSC does not end up like a Horrizon knockoff instead of being what it was meant to be, a TDU game. Only time will tell.
"Why didn't they jsut showcase all the stuff that made Test Drive Unlimited great?" Well, because they talked about them in dev dairies. The video was to showcase the current state of the game, not the final philosophy. That's what dairies were for. But I guess reading is hard nowadays, even for people who claim to be sophisticated enough to appreciate the original TDU and its unique features.
Lack of housing - that's old news. Anyways, the very Forza Horizon you claim is bollocks, has housing. And so what? It doesn't matter, it's shallow and inconsequential. Housing in TDU mattered because it was part of its wider satisfying progression system. Houses were storage for cars - you had to buy houses to buy more cars. They were the fundament for your (necessarily) well-curated collection. And so they underlined and strengthened your connection to your cars. If they were just another disconnected layer, like they are in Horizon, they would've not been considered so important for the legacy of the franchise. But most people don't understand WHY they adored housing in TDU, they just see "lack of identical feature = failure". Dumb, shallow understanding of gameplay design.
Solar Hotel will actually take over the function of the houses, by offering different tiers of rooms with, I assume, increasing number of garage spots associated with them. And not only will this fulfill this gameplay design objective, but it also makes sense lore-wise. In TDU1 you moved to Hawaii, in TDU2 you already lived on Ibiza. Here - you're travelling to Hong Kong for the competition. Even filthy rich people don't usually buy a house when they travel somewhere temporarily - they live in hotels, or rent at most. And it makes additional sense to add houses later on, when participants actually start to settle on the island. So you'll still live out the luxurious lifestyle in Solar Crown, it's just going to be luxurious lifestyle on a trip to Hong Kong, not living in Hong Kong.
Overall, a pretty retarded rant. Recompose yourself and reconsider your take.

i want a Carpg! You nailed it, I don't want to get 500 cars after 10 minutes of play. I want to invest time into one car, make it better and make it my own. I loved the used car marked in Test drive where you could see how many km the Car had, the races it did etc. The Car had history, I loved that.
And nobody can tell me there is not a marked for these kinds of games, when there are Millions of players roll playing with their car in GTA 5. Test Drive is dead on arrival, nobody wants another forza clone

Thats not entirely true. The creative director is Alain Jarniou, and he worked on both TDU 1 and 2, being the creative director for TDU 2.

@redbullsauberpetronas Yes, but he is the creative director, aka he is the one calling the shots. Thats why it has everything the old games had except for houses, and you could say a massive map... keep in mind the studio only had 40 people working on it when they started development.

@redbullsauberpetronas It's ok, you don't understand what a creative director does. Not only that, but you seem to be lacking critical thinking skills, because TDU 1 and 2 can still be played by the developers, and therefor, they themselves would know exactly what makes TDU games special. This isn't rocket science. It's not like the TDU formula is some special secret sauce locked away in a chamber.
The instant I saw EVERYONE playing this with a controller and not a single HOTAS being shown, I knew what I would be in for.

Thing is what you need to understand if this was only a demo and alphabet thing, it wasn't the full game. It was just showing part of the game. You know, at the end of the day they are going to be showing other parts of it through the time of before it gets released. But forza horizon is a mountain amazing game I don't get me wrong. I think test drive is absolutely amazing as well. I've played the second one and I played it for hours on end so I agree with some points of what you're saying but you've got to remember this was an alpha Beta build

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Forza Horizon is too...generous. They throw rewards at you left and right for doing practically nothing. It takes the meaning out of progression.

No player houses? wtf.. I have Forza Horizon, I like Forza Horizon for it's arcade racing, I don't need another Forza Horizon. I already have that! What I do want and need is another great Test Drive unlimited, but sadly it looks like we ain't getting that.... Fuuuuuuuck!

Minor point, Mack, but you're talking about the Forza Horizon arcadey spinoff, not the main Forza series, which is a more serious racer in the vein of Gran Turismo.
In regards to having many cars available without "unlocking" them, i give you the immortal words of Dara O'Briain "I'm 38, i unlocked it in a shop with a credit card. Give me my fucking content" XD
Gonna be frank, I loved the latest Forza, it had a great atmosphere, great environment, great graphics, plenty of tweaking, plenty of social interactions etc., but it makes me laugh so hard hearing the hate it gets from Mack. xD Don't take me wrong, I do understand where he is coming from and frankly, I cannot disagree with his points either. I think I am just used to appreciate little good things here and there....Or used to eating shit, depends on the perspective. But yeah, to me this Test Drive is a massive red flag at the moment, which is disappointing, I've been waiting for it for absolutely ages. Heck, my missus is from Hong Kong and it would be a good game to get her a bit more into racing gaming, but frankly as of now it looks... soulless. I hope there's enough time to get meat on the bones and I bloody hope this presentation was just a tip of the iceberg, but all in all this game went straight from 'Pre-order' to 'I'll wait for reviews' and usually it's a bad sign for a game I was already sold on.
