      It's partially correct that we exist based on the contexts provided to us. Louis Althusser had put forth one of the characteristics of the concept of Ideology that states that our existence is made through the ideologies through which we perceive the realities of life. It is the linguistic reality that we adhere to when we refer to our existence - it serves as the context in which we 'exist', further pointing out to its materiality.

    It does bother me sometimes. You are, to some person or even yourself, just the things you do and your habits. For example, If I met a friend who I used to play chess with, he would only ask me about my progress in chess or something related to the hobbies and habits he knows I have. If you take away the habits, likes and dislikes, you will not exist.

      We are defined by our experiences and memories. And although we are indeed nothing without these, we have the ability to create new memories and experiences. Therefore, while the things around us shape us, it is really us, who changes things. That is what it means to live a conscious life.
      Everything from past and present defines us, as well as anything from the future.

    • @mariajuliacaballero5178
      @mariajuliacaballero5178 2 года назад +13

      But that makes the existence of another conscious being to prove your real, maybe we can't trust in our memories and senses that much, but if we don't, there is were we stop existing, and yet the people that forgets who they are still are here, visible and real; just not as themselves as how they once were but not who they are now.
      I think is pretty complex and big this topic, like now I want to hang and discuss this 3 hour straight

      So true. I have been thinking about memory loss lately: if you lose your memory, are you still you? Because you dont know what you are when you are in a memory loss. It is like being cloned. Even if you and your clone has the same body you and your clone are different people. So i think it is like you dying mentally and someone else who isnt you replacing you.

      and u already know the answer to that question...
      memories, experiences, along with our environment and our genetics are things over which we have no control, factors which make us who we are and which influence the decisions we make...
      the truth is, the universe works on the law of cause and effect and we are no different. Everything is basically like a massive game of domino and we just happen to be one of the pieces.

    My favorite idea in relation to this concept is that people don't have a singular identity. Other people's perception of any individual is based on the context that they've experience with that person. The random lady you walked past in the grocery store sees you as an insignificant side-character in her own story, while each member of your circle of close friends see you as part of the supporting cast in their own stories. Beyond that, your own perception of yourself isn't even entirely accurate when you account for bias towards yourself, and experiences you've had and forgotten about.

    • @30pranaypawar17
      @30pranaypawar17 11 месяцев назад

    A few days ago, one night, I woke up and had deep thought about our existence. At first I though It's fascinating how we are souls embodied in meat and bones, and how we can feel, see, ear... and that we and everything around us are made of billions of small small particles animated by energy, and somehow linked to the universe. Then this led me to think about the universe itself, the infinity and the beauty of it, we don't know how it was created, when, why... And when you look at it like that, this makes us realize how small we are on this little, yet big for us humans, planet called Earth in the middle of nowhere, and that everything happening here is so petty and ridiculous: greed, hate, manipulating, wars, money... Just why??? All this for what??? But one rather terrifying thought came in my mind: what if the universe just didn't exist? What if nothing existed at all?? Like absolutely nothing??? What's the purpose of the universe??? We'll never know...

    likewise, ppl need to relate themselves with others in order to realize, they are existing and where they are. it violates the idea of exclusive self, the self that exists within. but it makes so much sense, the very humanly relative self.

Like the idea of a square, for example, is an abstract idea, since there is no such thing as a *perfect* square in existence. Technically speaking almost everything can be abstract, but there are levels of abstraction (which itself can be considered an abstract idea, but we won't get into that lol).

When we bring forward the idea of something that was unseen- We do not give it the quality to exist, rather to be realized. All potentials and all timelines exist right here and now. And our circumstances and lifetimes work in bringing them into realization, not existence. But that's only my take on it! c:

    When the circumstances surrounding our stay in the mortal realm change, we die, but were we ever "alive", are we truly dead, and gone?
    Or did the strings holding our body and soul in place, just got cut?

    Having your own perspective is everything to this. Even though we all see and register I ,as myself, from our perspectives. They both hold their own meaning due to our perspective and perception on the spectrum. Well all exist but don't since we are a frequency of moving particles that doesn't mix and meld with other states of matter that's vibrating particles. But just being that along with everything else at the base has a connection, which is movement/vibration so in those terms the only way to differentiate our existence is through the vibration we emit separately from others to give us definition and become a higher dimensional being of existence. That's my thoughts

    Uuuhh, no. The triangle analogy didn't really translate for this problem but I get what you're trying to say. If you define your entire existence on your external identity, this MIGHT be true. But really we exist whether we contain an identity or not.
    Really he's trying to say that there is no single definitive identity for any individual. We as people construct our own identities but this has nothing to do with whether or not we actually exist.
    You are real because you are experiencing this moment as it is, but if you constantly filter reality through "who you are as a person" you aren't being honest with yourself about your existence.

    • @baronq9788
      @baronq9788 2 года назад

      I like your answer, Yeah, for me the question of whether I really exist or not is already answered when I began asking that question it is the same for doubting my own free will because isn't it me myself who wills the question into existence? Of course this is only true for when the question is asked by yourself to yourself if any other person asked you this question they are either trying get you to join a cult or is messing with you.

    thats exactly why it is so awesome to think abuot this stuff. Because, if you do it right, you get to realize that whatever perspective you have is actually your choice! You choose what perspective you wanna see, and to make a choice is to live. This kind of things help a lot to get through depression sometimes

    That scares me so much, that to some people that I interact dily I do not exist outside our casual interaction. Though it can also be a bit weird, since someone out there thinks of me and I think of them, but we have never met and only think of them in our heads as imaginary characters that incidentally fit our ideas.

    this year i had to go to a new school and for some reason it just doesnt feel good at all. the class that im in is small and there’s nobody i relate to or could be friends with. i’ve tried but none of them are my type of people. this has never happened to me before but i’m now this quiet person who always sits alone because they have no friends… i’ve always had at least one very good friend in every class i’ve ever been in (and let me tell you i’ve been in a bunch). but now whenever im at school i am seen as this person thats just not me at all. and it’s frustrating because i want to be myself but i just cant be and now whenever im there i feel like i literally don’t exist. like who even is this person and everyone there thinks that is who i am, the students but also the teachers. but its so not and i honestly just feel like crying like its literally so fucking draining and exhausting. i hate being there. and it sucks because its very important that i make it through the next two years but i feel like its just never gonna work this way

  • @liamcassilly7735

    Yes, I do exist. Rene descartes answered this question very well. “I think therefore I am.” But if everything was taken away from me, then no I would not exist. That sounds a lot like death, or an existence like the men living in Socrates cave who lived there without ever being outside. So thankfully, for today I can think and I have contextual clues, or antecedents which can help dictate my behaviors that will cause the consequences in my life, ABCs of behaviorism. And I also have my genetic code from my ancestors which gives me a wonderful nature base to create myself out of using my environment/context/nurture upbringing I was raised in, concept of nature and nurture. For everyone else out there, maybe y’all exist, you guys sure seem real. Thanks for the video, you explained an interesting perspective in a way that was easy to understand. Look forward to your next video!
