  • Joe succinctly encapsulates the degree of religious dogma that somehow still plagues humanity in the 21st century.
    Even the philosophy professor and atheism advocate Peter Boghossian takes a second to appreciate the rant, praising it as "a thing of beauty".
    Clip taken from Joe Rogan Experience episode 735 with Peter Boghossian.

      Every religion is basically humanity’s longest-running scheme - a neat setup to tell people who struggle with thinking what’s right and wrong. Let’s be real, some folks aren’t exactly philosophers. For them, religion is perfect: ready-made rules without the hassle of wondering why the universe is huge, why life isn’t easy, or why we’re here at all. It gives them a structure to live by without causing too much disturbance.
      And naturally, each one of them believes they’re incredibly special, chosen even, as if they hold life’s ultimate truth. Fast forward 200 years, and 99%,999999 of them will be as memorable as last year’s grocery list, but they got to feel important without questioning a single thing.

    The Constantine part isn't true. it is because of his conversion to Christianity that he promoted religious tolerance in Rome. His stepmother also went on a mission to find the "True cross" after he converted and she came back with pieces. He would wear it in his armor. The New testament was assembled by a committee. It was indeed Constantine's idea to form the committee to assemble it. But from what I've read he did not write it.

      These names are the ten generations from Adam to Noah all in Genesis Chapter 5.
      Adam = Man
      Seth = Appointed
      Enosh = Mortal
      Kenan = Sorrow or Tent/tabernacle
      Mahalalel = Blessed God
      Jared = Shall come down
      Enoch = Teaching
      Methuselah = His death shall bring
      Lamech = lament or humble
      Noah = Rest or comfort
      Put the names together in a sentence and you have the plan of salvation -- the gospel message. Yes, "Mankind is appointed mortal sorrow. The blessed God shall come down teaching. His death shall bring the despairing comfort."
      Or
      "Mankind is appointed mortal tents/flesh. The blessed God shall come down teaching that His death shall bring the humble comfort."
      Adam is MANKIND (#120). When Seth was born, Eve said, "For God hath APPOINTED (#7896) me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew." Enosh means "MORTAL" (#582). It is from the root anash: to be incurable; used of a wound, grief, woe, sickness, or wickedness. Kenan means "SORROW (2 Chr. 35:25, Jer. 7:29). Balaam, looking down from the hills of Moab, employed a pun regarding the name of the Kenites when he prophesied their destruction (Nu. 24:21,23). Mahalalel, from mahalal (#4111) which means "BLESSED"; and El, the name for GOD. Jared, from the verb yered, meaning "SHALL COME DOWN" (#3382). Enoch, means "TEACHING" (#2596). He prophesied of the Second Coming of Christ (Jude 14,15). As soon as Methuselah died, the flood would be sent forth. "Muth," means DEATH in the Old Testament. Shalach means "TO BRING" or "to send forth." In the year that Methuselah died, the flood came. Notice, Methuselah was 187 when Lamech was born, and lived 782 more years. Lamech was 182 when Noah was born (Gen.5:25-28). The Flood came in Noah's 600th year (Gen. 7:6,11). 187 + 182 + 600 = 969 which was Methuselah's age when he died (Gen. 5:27). Lamech comes from Lemek (#4347), a root still seen today in our English word, "lament". Lamech suggests "DESPAIRING." (This name is also linked to the Lamech in Cain's line who inadvertently killed his son Tubal-Cain in a hunting incident (Genesis 4:19-25). Noah is from nacham, "to bring relief" or "COMFORT" (#5118); (Gen. 5:29).
      Put the names together in a sentence and you have the plan of salvation -- the gospel message. Yes, "Mankind is appointed mortal sorrow. The blessed God shall come down teaching. His death shall bring the despairing comfort."

      Important parts were abridged because it brought out contentious issues.
      Constantine was heading off schisms of the Empire and the Church. To that point, he established the Holy Roman Empire and named himself head/ Emperor effectively naming himself the first Pope.

      To his credit, he is attempting to think about it and discuss it openly. Your corrections of his explanation is shaded by your belief, but not nailed down. That's where faith comes in and the very thing Constantine attempted to nail down, pardon the analogy. There are more than 45,000 Christian denominations globally, and in light of the admonition of Jesus, "...there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." tells me we need a lot of work to do. Constantine, although he converted toward the end of his life (converted AD 312, he died 22 May 337 AD) it was not deathbed conversion, to me his attempt to codify the truths in Doctrine, his efforts appear worthy.
      Easter is upon us and if I were to ask earnest Christians about the death AND Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ just from scripture, I think we'd be astounded how little they know. So, to decry Joe Rogan on his knowledge is dissengenuous. I'll ask you;
      1) on the third day how many women, and what were the name(s) of the women who went to the tomb and found Jesus gone, if you can
      2) how many angels were at the tomb
      3) were they inside or outside the tomb
      4) did he/they know why she/they came
      5) who did Jesus greet at the garden tomb
      6) what did Jesus warn at that meeting
      Extra credit from Jewish laws & historical events:
      A) Why did women go to the tomb on the third day, but not on the second
      B) what were the conditions of Jesus' meeting with His Apostles that made the event miraculous.
      C) Where did Jesus go for those three days and for what purpose (and it wasn't Hell as indicated in scripture by Eddie Bravo)
      D) what is the rock to which Jesus referred when he stated "upon this rock I will build my church"
      I should add that an understanding of Hebrew and Greek is vital so that individually we can decipher the meaning of the ancient text for ourselves, rather than having someone tell us, dictating belief, who likely has just as little understanding of Doctrine as we might have???

    Your conclusion is spot on, it is all bullshit, but the history isn't quite there. Constantine legalized Christianity around 313AD influenced largely by his mother Helena (who was a Christian), he converted to Christianity after winning a battle vs Maxentius after he saw some vision of a cross by the sun with a message "with this conquer", so he had his men put it on their shields and they then won the battle. So, because he won some battle, he converted to Christianity and it was made legal shortly thereafter with the Edict of Milan, and it then became the official religion of Rome replacing Sol Invictus (The Unconquered Sun). The New Testament mostly came together about 130 years prior via an early Christian Bishop - Irenaeus - around 180AD to solidify docrine after the Martyrdom of Lyons (Where some women wrote accounts that Jesus came to them before they were tortured to death and made them men so they could enter heaven, due to doctrine found in Book of Thomas). There were 40+ gospels floating around amongst the Nostics, most of which never made it in, this got filtered down to 4 because Iranaeus rationalized that there were 4 corners of the earth, 4 directions of the wind etc. (Flat Earther)... The books themselves are literary hybrids of many other things, such as you mentioned, Dead Sea Scrolls, Book of the Dead, Epic of Gilgamesh, a lot also came from Mithraism , the Cult of Sol Invictus, etc. etc. The history is fascinating, but to actually believe that this stuff amounts to more than story-telling and mythology is a combination of ignorant, mis-informed, and delusional. (Same goes for any religion).

      These names are the ten generations from Adam to Noah all in Genesis Chapter 5.
      Adam = Man
      Seth = Appointed
      Enosh = Mortal
      Kenan = Sorrow or Tent/tabernacle
      Mahalalel = Blessed God
      Jared = Shall come down
      Enoch = Teaching
      Methuselah = His death shall bring
      Lamech = lament or humble
      Noah = Rest or comfort

We can look at how the world was created and prove it, but in the end no one can KNOW what happens after death and it's pure ignorance to be on either side of the debate and claim to know one way or the other.

      Methuselah = His death shall bring
      Lamech = lament or humble
      Noah = Rest or comfort

I’m ok with people not believing, I can’t change that, but I have an issue when someone spreads something that is completely untrue and uses it to convince people that it is wrong. To be honest I was surprised about how uneducated he was on the topic to even make a video criticising it. So yeah just under half the books in the New Testament were written by Paul (who was originally called Saul) who was actually a Roman who executed Christians until he turned to Jesus and started to spread his word. He was eventually executed for his ministering but he never cared about the risk of death as he was fully committed to spreading gods word. I mean saying religion isn’t logical just because science explains things in the universe is a very weak argument that assumes religion is against science. Also assuming that religion was made up by random men also is very far fetched. As a Muslim that has studied these topics for a while I have to say that it’s very suspicious for me that random men in different time zones and geographical location dedicated and sacrificed their lives for the spread of the message of god while being humiliated and tortured by their families and nations and still standing and suffering. Also they all had the same message even though they were different men from different places and times. Why would they sacrifice their lives and endure such pain to spread something they made up and know it’s not true unless they knew it is true and they were truly prophets and messengers from god. Also from an Islamic perspective satan isn’t the only blame for evil but rather part of evil. People also do mistakes and satan does have a part of it but there’s a limit of how much satan can do and there’s evil that people do from their decision that is motivated by the devil. So satan motivates evil but there’s a limit to how much he can do. (That’s what I know from Islam and I could be wrong and that’s why it’s better to read the holy Quran and ask specialist in Islam.) also saying there’s no proof of god is wrong. Many scientist are believers and their belief is motivated by science and facts. Millions and millions of people pray and mention their prayers being answered and it happened with me also. I truly believe there’s a god that sees us and created us and loves us and all you need to see that is to pursue god with an open heart and no ego or bias or hate. Read the holy Quran and you will see how beautiful and true it is. I pray everyone is forever happy and everyone’s dreams come true and everyone find the truth which is god.

    They used to use leeches to draw out disease (still use them for their anticoagulant and antibiotic salivia). What we do today to treat cancer and mental illness will be looked at the same way in the future. The same can be said for a lot of things INCLUDING podcasts and youtube.

    Dear god Joe Rogan knows absolutely nothing about this, this is painful to watch. Also, what the hell does Hume’s Problem of Induction have to do with this?

    Sorry, but if anyone thinks there was any ounce of truth to what was just said, you have never read much of anything on the subject matter being spoken about.
    1- Constantine didn’t become a Christian on his death bed, but was baptized on his death bed. American protestant therefore conclude from their junk American theology that he was then not Christian until then. However, that would be an asserted claim about when he was “truly saved”. So Joe is merely going off a misunderstanding from something he heard phrased the wrong way.
    2 - Constantine did not write, nor put the bible together. The bible was first collected as the text that Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians have today (protestants removed books of their own will later) was first put together at the council of Trullo, and later ratified in the 8th century. However, the manuscripts go back to before Constantine.
    3- the dead sea scrolls are not the benchmark for authenticity of the OT, but a discovery which attests to the OT writings in their entirety, and proof for textual critics. No clue why Joe thinks Christians rely on them as a form of authority.
    4- science is hardly some proof against metaphysics. Sciences relies on unproven things to operate, such as the law of identity and numbers, not to mention Plato’s thesis of the forms. Besides, the problem of induction has been unanswered for the past 500 years. The guest on this show brings up the problem of induction as if it is a good thing for their case, and mentions how studying the past can tell you about the future, but in fact it is the problem of induction which says science cannot tell you anything about the future but only the past, and even that, a very limited amount of knowledge in that area.

    Around minute 5:40, the phrase "what an unbelievable arrogance", "to think that YOU know the will of the creator of the universe". That is a great argument. We just don't know, how could we?
