One of my favorite quotes “No one is going stand up at your funeral and say ‘she had a really expensive couch and great shoes’” it’s so true. Relationships over material things all day!
That is the stupidest comment. So no one will care about shoes ? But why do you want people on your funeral to care about your dead body.? You are dead why do you care if they are talking about you or your shoes
When I was younger, I remember you could buy things on layaway. You made payments on it and you didn’t get it until it was paid off. It was a great system!
I SO agree on the eating out thing! I sit there thinking, "That much for ONE piece of chicken?¿? I can go buy 2 whole pounds of chicken breasts for that price?!!" It is crazy. Now, I love a nice dinner with great service and an entrée I can't make at home! The rest of the eating out: HARD PASS!
Being frugal has helped me go from two jobs to one! I am about to have baby number five and getting everything in order to be more frugal has helped me be more comfortable staying at home! Thank you for always encouraging it and doing everything you can to teach it! I listen I promise lol thank you!
The library is still serving me well as a place to take my grandkids. Free use of books, movies, exciting toys to play with, story time, computer time. Special programs for kids and adults. Air conditioned, clean rest rooms. We are blessed with over 10 libraries in our county. And it is all free! Love love love you two bantering back and forth. 😊
I'm glad you embraced the stage of small children. It is over far too quickly. My youngest will be starting her 2nd year of college in August. It just passed the year anniversary of her high school graduation and it still hurts my heart that my children are all grown. 😢
I love that Dave says “ I have a general idea of what I make and Christine’s like “I can tell you “ my husband “ I don’t have a clue what I make you need to talk to my wife “ ❤😂 love my husband ! Glenda
Netflix used to encourage password sharing and now they are cracking down. 180 degree change. I smuggle goodies into the movies. I go to a lot of theaters that show classic movies on the big screen and I've gotten in the habit of bringing an apropos signature cocktail in a portable container. It adds to the aesthetic. Martinis for Casablanca. Guinness for The Quiet Man. Spiked Egg Nog for White Christmas. Champagne for The Philadelphia Story. It is an economical way to elevate it from a movie to an event.
Loved the library when our kiddos were little!! #grabthelibrarybag Living frugal allowed us to pay our mortgage off while our kids were in high school, this allowed us to pay for college. Which we truly wanted to do for them. We are empty nesters and still prefer eating at home too!!!
We had an Eckard growing up in St. Augustine, FL! It was the first “real store” I could ride my bike to! Haven’t heard it mentioned in 20 years. Great memories!
Good for you two to work as a team when the kids were small and Dave had to be away from home 12+ hours. Difficult time I am sure for both of you but you are a solid example of teamwork
40yrs of "It will only take 1hr .... I call that Thomason Time! Quadruple any estimate time" Thanks So Much for the Laughs Chris and Rick From Chicago ♥️
Love this :) I say renew your vows and take pics now :) and you tube it! Renew vows on a budget! Frugal everything for 2023/wedding/vows renewal with the frugal for mom !! #viral lol
When my kids were little, we'd go to the library once a week for a craft program they had, all free. We also went to various playgrounds in the area, free. I read to my kids a lot, library books, so free.
Always enjoy you two!! Personality-wise, Christine is my twin! 😃 I'm so glad you pointed out the epitome thing, Dave. It was bothering me too! 😆 Also agree about the eating out, guys - I would rather stay home and eat my food!! 😁
Food at home is always cheaper and tastes so much better. Plus we usually make more then enough and have leftovers for someone to eat later. My girls will crave when we go to the grocery store and buy filet steaks and my husband sears them in a cast iron skillet and then finishes them in the oven. Also makes bake potatoes with olive oil and seasonings and wrapped in foil on the grill. Turn every 15 minutes for an hour. Through in a vegetable or a salad and so much better then going to Longhorn. The steaks can be expensive so we only do it a few times a year, but so much better. He’s more willing to experiment in the kitchen with things like that then I am. My cooking is more basic, but he’ll look up a recipe on food network or watch a video and say hey I could do that and it’s so much better then going out. Plus we’ll have the kids help us cook. Chop this or move the chicken through the breading stations for chicken parm. They appreciate the food so much more when they’ve helped.
Just celebrated 29 years, all of this is so spot on. You guys make me laugh. I have to really push the right tool for the right job and sometimes paying someone to do something is well worth it.
I feel definitely about my vehicle and at other times like you said. I wanted it for over 4 years for we it. We have had it for 2 ½ years. I am still very Proud and feel dreamy about my vehicle 😍🫠🙃😁
Great video! My mom keeps a repurposed coffee can in the fridge full of bacon grease. So much in common with you two. 2 Fords, awful blown engine...,always snuck candy into movies, hubby tells me..this will take 30 minutes, I go on vacation and come back and he says maybe 30 more minutes 😂. There's a lot of laughing in my household too. My sons are grown and when they're home, it all starts again with laughing 😂😂.
I love your energy together! The only gripe I have with bringing in your own candy to the theater is you have to dispose of your evidence. I worked at a theater all through college and I'll tell you h-what: not one single person in that building gets paid enough to make a fuss about outside food. But we'd complain all day for throwing out someone's Chipotle, or pizza boxes, crab claws (seriously, that happened).
We had a Eckerd in our town forever. You guys are so funny and on point. Ford Taurus don't get me started. Ford f150 good trucks. My edge is a good car. Always liked those irock cameras. My husband always says it'll take 30 minutes for diy projects. I see him the next day. Ha ha.
You both are hilarious together! Always a joy to watch. My partner and I love our Subaru (live in Wisconsin!) what do you and Dave think about Subarus? And yes I agree, nothing beats a home cooked meal (when you are a good cook!)
Definitely not going to tell frugal peeps what to do, but I changed my view on movie theater candy. I'm personally convicted to not sneak in candy. Apparently concessions is how they make most of their money. I really want movie theaters to continue to exist bc I love the experience. So I either go to a matinee and don't have any snacks, or I make it an outing and go all out when it is in the budget. Each person has to decide what fits their conscience and what is worth it to splurge on or not.
I snuck a drink in one time as a young woman and it spilled all in my purse. That was the last time I took anything in lol 😅 We never bought concessions so they were not making it off us. 😊
Interesting to hear about smart boards from a teacher's perspective: I graduated in 2015 and I think 3 teachers had them (very small school of 200 students k-12) they were a big deal and the teaxhers who did have them were tech savvy and loved them, I got migraines very easily and I wasn't a fan of them...
My Taurus' engine caught fire on the way into work. My principal had to come pick me up on the side of the highway. I had to rush into work and present to room of teachers while covered in soot. 🤣
Really enjoyed this video! You two are so sweet together. You are both so smart. I have told all my nieces and nephews to watch you so they can learn how to live frugally.
Lol! Great conversation! I'm from the North, and rarely cook anything greasy, (like bacon), I definitely have never saved the grease! Maybe I can ship it to you, lol!😂
When we go to the movies…we bring our own candy, popcorn, and drinks 🤣🤣🤣 The people who work there don’t care/there’s no policy against it…and it saves a ton of money!!! Candy being more expensive than a ticket drives me insane!!! 😂😂 Now, we do movie nights at home in a fort in front of the tv (streaming).
OMG Ive said to my friends so many times on how my life would have been so boring if i would never have had kids! They made me laugh so much and brought so much joy. But now my last 2 are teenagers and they make me cry as much as they make me laugh 😏 HAHA Dave ...put your bacon grease in your scentsey 🤣🤣🤣
I'm listening to your podcasts while making a spreadsheet of my freezers. :) Thanks for keeping me company. My husband is working OT a lot so he's in bed now. 3am comes fast. Had to come back to say> LOL! "Put it in your Scentsy".... "They will never leave". You two are so funny! Just eat the darn bacon grease people! It will save you so much on butter and oil.
My youngest is 7 and in the library summer program. They have some great activities. I'm trying to figure out some inexpensive activities for the whole family for the summer. 2 of my kids are on the spectrum. We can't do a vacation this summer.
My kids are adults and still talk about the summer reading program, and my daughter doing the other by her has an adult version that she participated in last year, lol.
I Completely Agree to not skip on a photographer for your wedding. My husband and I did the same thing and I regret it. Even though we did have good family friends that took photos for themselves and gave us copies. I would still have loved to have a Professional Photographer though.
^ Oh yes, this too. Paying for bacon grease is blasphemy. Everyone is having delicious bacon grease cooked eggs and bacon grease sautéed onions over here- the tastiest base for any dish!
It's still cheaper to buy prepackaged stuff and "cook" that if needed than to eat out. Cooking isn't hard but I don't enjoy it either however everything I make is better than the food we eat out! ❤
I have been watching your you tube videos and just found your podcasts. Loving them! I have a question..... recently started living frugally and goal is building more for retirement. We are in our 50s and both work full time. Question is...we have 2 large car payments which we stupidly did 3 years ago and this past year. Both low interest...1.9 and 2.9%. Now that we have had the realization that we shouldn't be spending that much on cars....How do we get out of those loans so we can stop spending $600 and $800 a month! We do need 2 vehicles though. Any suggestion?
My cousin has a 2003 Taurus and it is still runs good! My Dad worked at Ford and that is the only car we have bought since the late 70s. All ran good with few problems, you guys just had bad luck I guess. Ford put food on my table for many years!
😂 the movies 🍿 yeah we did the same. Sometimes even the popcorn, put popcorn in ziplock bags🤦🏻♀️ well we only got to go to a movie once or twice a year so it was a special time. Good ole days.
I still remember going to the movie theater to watch Clueless. While my mom took my "little cousin" to see Babe. And she had a bag of cheeseburgers in her bag... and sweets from Big Lots. 😂❤
I'm with you. Found On Road Dead. no more. The library is the way to go. Story time day. Heaven. When I am forced to go to the restaurants you mentioned I play it safe. BLT. That is usually safe but not always. Ordered at Denny's the waitress returned and said they are out of tomatoes????? at noon you are already out of tomatoes?
One of my favorite quotes “No one is going stand up at your funeral and say ‘she had a really expensive couch and great shoes’” it’s so true. Relationships over material things all day!
That is the stupidest comment. So no one will care about shoes ? But why do you want people on your funeral to care about your dead body.? You are dead why do you care if they are talking about you or your shoes
I survived young motherhood by going to the library storytime once a week. ❤
Same! And then probably visiting again another time just to play.😊
I really enjoy the content with you and Dave together.
When I was younger, I remember you could buy things on layaway. You made payments on it and you didn’t get it until it was paid off. It was a great system!

I grew up in a home where we saved the bacon grease. So, I also save it. It’s so nice to use when cooking with cast iron.
I use the bacon fat for cooking peas and rice. It tastes delicious!!
Being frugal has helped me go from two jobs to one! I am about to have baby number five and getting everything in order to be more frugal has helped me be more comfortable staying at home! Thank you for always encouraging it and doing everything you can to teach it! I listen I promise lol thank you!

I love Ford's! I had over 300,000 miles on my Taurus!!!
One of my favorite childhood memories was going to the Kmart for candy with my aunt before going to see a movie.
Love this :) I say renew your vows and take pics now :) and you tube it! Renew vows on a budget! Frugal everything for 2023/wedding/vows renewal with the frugal for mom !! #viral lol
Great idea!!
My regret from our wedding is skimping on the pictures. I also tell people now not to skimp on pictures.
I agree, I hate eating out because I know anything I can make at home is way better than anything we can eat out.
When I first started driving in the mid 70’s I remember paying 25 cents per gallon of gas!
When my kids were little, we'd go to the library once a week for a craft program they had, all free. We also went to various playgrounds in the area, free. I read to my kids a lot, library books, so free.
Loved it! You two are so sweet together! It works when you are both on the same page otherwise it causes war!
Always enjoy you two!! Personality-wise, Christine is my twin! 😃 I'm so glad you pointed out the epitome thing, Dave. It was bothering me too! 😆 Also agree about the eating out, guys - I would rather stay home and eat my food!! 😁
You are an incredible team. I really wish you were around 30 years ago when I was in my early 20’s. I’m learning so much from you!

You guys are hilarious! Love the chemistry between you two!! 😂😂
some of my favorite videos and podcasts are just you and dave, you guys are so funny!
I’m the same way, knowledge calms me. Even if the situation is bleak, I’m more calm and in control of emotions with the knowledge.
You two are the best! Laughter is the best medicine!
I love how many videos you guys are doing together. You work off of each other so well and you can tell how much fun you guys have together.
Omg loved this video!!! I remember Eckerds. Best clearance stuff lol.
I feel definitely about my vehicle and at other times like you said. I wanted it for over 4 years for we it. We have had it for 2 ½ years. I am still very Proud and feel dreamy about my vehicle 😍🫠🙃😁
I went to the library with five kids under 11 yesterday 😊

Eckerd's was in TX! My grandma used to call it the Dime Store.
I love how you both are on the same page....or mostly! You guys had me laughing the whole video!

Well said you two! Great video.
Christine would be such a fun, awesome friend!! ❤
You guys are hilarious!!! Thanks for the tips!!
Skimped on the wedding pictures. Realized later I had NO BRIDAL PORTRAITS.
You both just seem like good, genuine people! Loved this video.
My Taurus' engine caught fire on the way into work. My principal had to come pick me up on the side of the highway. I had to rush into work and present to room of teachers while covered in soot. 🤣
Awww...I had a 1988 Toyota Corolla, too! I drove it from 1994-2005. And I jammed out to the stereo system I had put in, lol! Loved that car...❤
We would always bring our own candy and drinks to the movie theater. 😂
You two are hilarious together!
You two are amazing
I still have and actually use my Nordic Track cross country ski machine!
Really enjoyed this video! You two are so sweet together. You are both so smart. I have told all my nieces and nephews to watch you so they can learn how to live frugally.
We had a Ford Windstar that went through 3 transmissions. Every single time I was driving it! No joking about the driver. 😄 NO MORE FORDS
Some day I really want to hear all these stories...
Lol! Great conversation! I'm from the North, and rarely cook anything greasy, (like bacon), I definitely have never saved the grease! Maybe I can ship it to you, lol!😂
Love listening to you two. I’m sure you’ve shared the bounced check story and resolution with Hailey as she goes out on her own.
When we go to the movies…we bring our own candy, popcorn, and drinks 🤣🤣🤣 The people who work there don’t care/there’s no policy against it…and it saves a ton of money!!! Candy being more expensive than a ticket drives me insane!!! 😂😂

The Steve Madden shoes!!! Haha, my college years!!!!
Loved this video! Ha! So much truth!! And- as a wedding photographer- amen!!!!
I love the videos you guys, the dynamic is amazing
I love my ford- I had a 1997 Ford explorer that we called the tank- in the winter it would go thru anything!!
OMG Ive said to my friends so many times on how my life would have been so boring if i would never have had kids! They made me laugh so much and brought so much joy. This video is so refreshing and just what I needed! Thank you ❤
Love that about the bacon grease!!!
I once owned The Ford Flambé. I completely agree with Tip #3….
Oh my goodness! You all are so funny!
Love yall¡!!
Eckerd's was in Florida also! :)
Steve Maddens….😂😂😂. Yes! Totally remember those and also recently saw them again-hilarious to me!
You rock!
I remember Eckerd!!! (Grew up in and still live in Texas)
My youngest is 7 and in the library summer program. They have some great activities. I'm trying to figure out some inexpensive activities for the whole family for the summer. 2 of my kids are on the spectrum. We can't do a vacation this summer.

Checking in to say that my bacon grease is safe! You two are hysterical to watch. We need more reminiscences videos!!
^ Oh yes, this too. Paying for bacon grease is blasphemy. Everyone is having delicious bacon grease cooked eggs and bacon grease sautéed onions over here- the tastiest base for any dish!
OMG I thought Dave said the chase is better than the squirrel.
You guys are the best!
I had a friend in high school that would pack in Taco Bell and Slurpees from 7-11. I swear her purse was like Marry Poppins.
But I do not like cooking. ☹️
Hearing you talk about you and your kids make me realize how bad I did. I’m so glad you have those amazing memories. ❤❤
It's still cheaper to buy prepackaged stuff and "cook" that if needed than to eat out. Cooking isn't hard but I don't enjoy it either however everything I make is better than the food we eat out! ❤
What a great video!
Eckhart!! Yes
Love this!

I did Ekard in Louisiana for candy for movies too when growing up
😂 the movies 🍿 yeah we did the same. Sometimes even the popcorn, put popcorn in ziplock bags🤦🏻♀️ well we only got to go to a movie once or twice a year so it was a special time. Good ole days.
I still take my own redvines from Target.
Christine - how do you best store bacon grease?
Unrelated, I've always wondered how Applebee's is still in business. The food is awful.
The chicken wonton tacos are the best and yes the only thing worth going for!!😂
I take a whole meal in my purse to the movie theater 😂. Dollar tree candy and 2 hot dogs from Sheetz for 99 cents each.
I still remember going to the movie theater to watch Clueless. While my mom took my "little cousin" to see Babe. And she had a bag of cheeseburgers in her bag... and sweets from Big Lots. 😂❤
Love your podcast! Also, how many people got ads for Ford while watching this? 🤚
Completely agree about Applebee's. 💯 Only the app chicken wonton tacos.
I had a mentor who taught me to sneak Chinese takeout into a theater when I was a teenager. I would need a much larger purse to pull this off today.
I'm with you. Found On Road Dead. no more. The library is the way to go. Story time day. Heaven. When I am forced to go to the restaurants you mentioned I play it safe. BLT.
