I stayed on Posey Island in the mid-90s -- part of a 3-night, guided kayak trip. There was no bathroom, as I recall. I remember that a raccoon tore into the hatch cover of our guide's kayak that night (he'd left some trail mix in there). The morning after, we crossed the channel to Stewart Island in a dense fog. The water was calm, and you couldn't see any horizon ... the water and sky were the same color. It was like paddling through space. But we could hear the foghorns of freighter ships ... so we had to race across as quickly as we could. It was other-worldly. So fun to see that you got to enjoy it!

Dry Tortugas off the coast of Key West is pretty small. There is a ferry that runs so it wouldn't be remote during the day, but at night only the overnight campers would be there. It's a beautiful area that was designed as an anti-pirate fort, and then converted into a malaria-filled prison.

PNW is forever my favourite region of all time! Posey island was really cool, and the fact that you had to kayak there, fun little adventure. In the UK where I now live, there's the beautiful NPs, but there's also these areas of land called Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), I always wonder what designates it to be an AONB, just like State Parks sometimes.

You could come to Isle Royale, which isn't the smallest, but is the least visited National Park. It's super beautiful! But maybe wait till next year, all of Ontario is on fire and it's pretty smoky right now. Technically it's in Michigan, but the boat trip from Minnesota is shorter, so you could stop in the BWCA too!

That looks fun! Closer to the mainland you'll find Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island, and I highly recommend the hike up Goose Rock. If you start from Cranberry Lake Campground, you can hike along North Beach, go past the bridge (without crossing it), and head up Goose Rock from there. Round trip that's about 4 miles, and there are nice water views for much of the way.

I have lots of questions. I've watched many of your videos (love them) and I've watched this one three or four times. I want to plan a trip up there and do the same kayaking experience you did. Did you bring your own kayak? Did you have to take a ferry out to anywhere? Are there fire pits on the island? I'd be driving from Northern California and although I mostly car camp, I could adapt to a backpacking style trip too. I can look up whether you need reservations or not but I thought I'd try here first. Thanks in advance for your help.

It is nearly eight miles long and over four miles wide, with 20 miles of shoreline. Mammals such as white-tailed deer, red fox, porcupine, gray and fox squirrels, bats, and raccoons can be seen almost on a daily basis.
