- My friend planned her first backpacking trip!! That's right, Pam is back and this time SHE planned the whole trip!! Last year I took my best friend Pam on her first ever backpacking trip. We had an amazing time backpacking Wallace Falls, near Seattle. For Pam's return to the show I traveled from the Pacific Northwest to Virginia to let Pam take ME on a backpacking trip! The student has become the teacher!! Pam planned this backpacking trip perfectly, but we definitely had some type 2 fun on the second day when we got caught in a serious storm and had to hike for miles in the wind and rain. I don’t even know what to say. Miranda is the best, this trip was the best (even with the raccoon and the rain!), and reliving it through this video is so special. I had the absolute best time, and I’m so honored and grateful for this experience!

As a plus size lady looking to get started in backpacking - I LOVE that you have created these videos and shared them! There is hardly ANY plus size backpacker influencers, and that sure does make it intimidating to get started.. Thanks Pam & Miranda for the encouragement! ☺️ I cannot WAIT to plan a trip and hit the trail this summer!
The Gregory Plus Size packs are awesome. The hip belt pockets are huge compared to other packs. Highly recommend.
Also, the clothes that you typically see backpackers wear, like a Puffy Coat or Rain Coat are NOT PLUS-SIZE (XL is not plus-size manufacturers!). A plus-size sleeping bag, good to know.
My Gregory pack’s hip belt was too small. But it’s an easy fix! You can get webbing at the craft store.
@@desiregonzales6246 I believe that the REI down puffer jacket comes in up to a 3XL, and as a big guy, I find it very comfortable, compared to the other brands, which won’t even zip.

Yay Pam!!! I was beaming this whole video, what a wholesome friendship. Also when Miranda showed Pam she could adjust the hood on her rain jacket I yelled “WAIT…” and ran over to my Marmot rain jacket I’ve had for eight freaking years to confirm that, YUP! It has the same velcro tab on the back and I’ve been blinding myself unnecessarily in the rain for almost a decade. Thanks Miranda! You help in ways big and small.
Same! I watched the video and read this comment and I was like “mine definitely doesn’t have that but I’ll check anyways” and sure enough, it does! Although mine uses cords that you pull on to tighten it, rather than velcro.
Same here!! I had been only wearing it with a baseball cap under to hold up the hood for months!
This was awesome. Everything from the security guard, to the mini comments about Miranda plotting a secret Surprise for Pam, to the tears at the end. I think you should bring more Pam into the shows gosh darn

Yes, would love to see Pam. We need to see backpackers in all shapes, sizes and ages. VERY important for those getting started to know that you don’t need to be a 20 something mountain climber to backpack. Great video. Thanks!

Pam, I just commented on the other video to share that I'd just come back from my first backpacking trip too, and then I had to come over and watch this one.
I really appreciated what you said about your hips. I feel like the trip I just took has helped me appreciate my body so much more for what it can do rather than worrying about what it looks like. My big hips did a great job of holding and carrying the weight of my pack, and my sturdy legs kept me upright and moving even when the hike got tough.

Oh my gosh, THIS!! Yes!! Backpacking totally reframed how I think about my body. Seeing what it was capable of gave me such confidence, and had me loving every inch of it.

Plus size backpacker here! I’m glad to see that I picked the right gear. I have all the same stuff and love it! Some of the options were the only option, so clearly there is a market for well made and plus size designed gear. I love Miranda and Pam!

The trip planning is what riddles with me anxiety, it's not easy to find where to go if you don't even know where to look (which I never do).
Oh my gosh, yes! That was the hardest part, picking out a good trail that met all of my parameters! I struggled so hard. I used All Trails to narrow down options and get some reviews, but even that proved challenging.

Really, I think it's been much easier to get her to go on more outdoor adventures after sharing Miranda's vids. They've been helping her feel more confident and comfortable outdoors in addition to the laughs.

I would love to see Pam in many other videos. Specifically, I would like to see a bit more process from her point of view with planning a trip like this. As she is very new to the process of planning and organizing a trip, it makes me feel related to where she is at and it gives me confidence. Also, being a plus size person myself I am so glad to see this beautiful lady go do all these things and represent why brands need to be more inclusive to those who are large and still want to go out and have adventures too. Love Pam and yalls relationship.

Pam’s comments about being bigger struck home with me as well. I’m bigger than most men my height and it is a constant struggle to find gear and clothes that fit. And you never see heavy guys hiking or backpacking. Not in print or on Instagram or RUclips. This video was very encouraging. Thank you.

Yesssss exactly! Backpacking does not have to mean 15 miles and 2000ft of elevation gain and being miserable. It doesn’t matter the length of the trip, or how strenuous. Did you hike somewhere with all of your stuff on your back and then camp out overnight? That’s backpacking.

I'm going on my first backpacking adventure with some friends in September, and was worry about being a total newb and not having a clue. I found Miranda, and have binge watched her videos, and now on the coffee video. Since finding Miranda, I've purchased a bunch of items from REI based on her recommendations and videos. I just love this duo! Miranda your videos are great and some of my favorite outdoor content but as a plus sized hiking woman not only is representation important but it’s really validating to see someone as awesome as Pam enjoy hiking and backpacking as much as I do. The right gear makes all the difference. For plus sized ladies Nemo makes a few bags that are really nice and roomy and if you get the long size there is even more room. They are great for wiggly side sleepers like me. They also have a couple of the wider sleeping pad options.
