Hi! Congratulations about your baby. Great to see you again And could you do a gear dump or what it's called about your gear that you had with you, clothes and all
I dont normally comment on videos, but as I was watching this my 3-year-old daughter came and sat on my lap. At the moment when you guys were getting in the lake she pointed at Pam and said "mummy, that lady looks like you, her body looks like your body". It was so incredible for her to see a body like mine represented on screen, with no stigma or negativity, just a woman using a body like mine to take on a physical challenge and enjoying nature. I don't think it's something she's seen in media before and it legitimately made me tear up.
awwww don't cry Pam. I don't think crying suits you at all. I think laughing as you were so much in this video is more a look for you than crying.@@pamlavallee9051
I'm sure someone else has said this, but I just about burst into tears when Miranda took over the pacing because Pam was about to do exactly what she said she tends to do and "try to prove something" by going fast. I know this tendency well and am so glad to see it be modeled well. Thank you.
Love the communication agreement at the beginning :) Feel like a lot of beginners can feel intimidated about being the "slow" one, not wanting to be a burden for the rest of the group (this is usually me!). But the group has fun when everyone has fun!
Yes, absolutely this!! One of my first large hiking trips many many years ago was with a group that basically left me behind struggling and so I’ve always been worried about being “the slow one.” So having these conversations about pace and overall trip hopefuls and expectations is so important. Miranda has an incredible knack for never making me feel like I’m being too slow or ruining everyone’s good time, which is part of why she’s so awesome!
If you only care about being fast, then you're not made to hike in a group. That's how I feel. If you get annoyed by something like that, you should go by yourself, so you can set your own pace. Not everyone understands or respects that.
I am usually the slow one. I can understand groups wanting to be able to go a certain pace, which is why it’s important to set expectations ahead of time. However once you’re on a hike with someone, it’s not only rude, but unsafe to leave someone behind. My son and I backpack together, sometimes hikes ahead of me, but it’s at my request, and he doesn’t get too far ahead, and we have a whistle system should I run into a problem.
I’m also a larger human, so I super appreciate how body positive this channel is. I saw some rude comments the other day on an Eric Hanson vid about Dan Becker and I’m like, dang that dude is thinner than me! Kinda wrecks the vibe. But I go hiking! I get that stuff done! We don’t all look alike even tho we enjoy the same activities and that’s ok! Side bar: what’s the best flask that won’t leak in a pack? For adult enjoyment up there haha
Totally agree! I am a larger human and totally love this body positivity. I also often feel like I have to prove myself, for me it's not because I just had a baby, but just because of my size. So her being vulnerable and saying that just made me feel less alone.
Pam looks so much more comfortable with each trip, I cant believe she was pregnant on the last one! Really goes to show that backpacking is for everyone
I agree with the trekking poles. I'm in my late 40s and I'm in really good shape. I was going down on one of Yosemite's trails. And I was using my trekking poles. No one else was using trekking poles on the trail. I slipped, and was able to stop my fall because of my trekking poles. If I would have fallen, I would have fallen on a giant rock which probably would have broken a hip or seriously hurt my back. From that day forward, I will always use a trekking pole no matter the difficulty of the hike.
Pam! I'm so proud of you for prioritizing some 'you time' away from baby. As a mom of school-age kids, I kniw how hard it is to get away and the 'mom guilt' I feel when I do. Sharing nature with your kids is awesome, but enjoying it with your bestie is awesome too, and will refresh you to be a better mama when you're back home. ❤️
@@MirandaGoesOutside(I hope you see this.) chaos thought came to my head. Using a 1G zip lock baggy as a sleeping pillow (and wrap a shirt around it for the liner). Would it work, idea for you to test 😂
Yeah Pam is back. Pam represents those of us that aren’t the normal backpacker and I love seeing her out there proving backpacking isn’t just for a certain type of person. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's really great that Pam has a hiking partner that she knows will stay at her pace and honor how her body is feeling as a less experienced hiker. Unfortunately, the last hike I went on was with a group of more fit individuals and they did not allow any stopping or resting. I was struggling to breathe and so tired, I blew through my water before we were even half way to our stopping point. By the last mile and a half, I kept trying to tell them to just leave me because my legs couldn't move anymore and they got visibly mad at me... Mind you, they had rest periods while waiting for me to catch up and as soon as I caught up, they started moving again, meaning I got 0 rest periods, while going at a pace that was way too intense for me. That was the hike that killed my spirit and I haven't been back out since (that was in April of 2023). We need more Miranda's in our hiking groups
I feel this so hard. One of my first big hiking trips was with a group that went way faster than I could, and it was a more strenuous hike in general than I was prepared for, and it ruined my spirit for years. ❤
In my opinion as a former girl scout outdoor educator, groups hiking together should put the slowest people up front. People who want to race to the camp shouldn't be leading groups
Wow, don't know how you hooked up with this group to hike with but they sound like assholes. Find people who aren't assholes or even go by yourself. Good luck and get back out there!
My family is like this, and I finally got up the courage to refuse to hike with them anymore a few months ago. Since then I've been able to go out and hike at my own pace or with friends and it's rekindled my love for it. I like to go at a slow pace and enjoy the hike up, and I've learned to give a big heads up to the people I'm planning to hike with about that. It's made a big difference in finding the right people for me, and also reducing my guilt when everyone is more fit/faster. I make sure to give an advanced heads up about my pace, and if they didn't listen or give credence to what I said and are getting mad at me, I remind them of that and then they tend to calm down. Then we reevaluate and either agree that we aren't the best hiking buddies (which is a good thing to realize!) or adjust the hiking pace to better suit both of us in a comfortable way.
I love watching two friends banter and enjoy each others company so much lol. The energy in this video is fantastic. I’d LOVE to see more of Pam in future content!

I did a backpacking trip this last week and noticed that probably 60-70% of the backpackers I saw were women and it made my heart SO HAPPY. So many of them were in groups with their friends. This is what life should be like.

For the future, just know that a packet of Swiss Miss and a packet of instant coffee makes a great mocha too. Maybe not as good as with milk, but it sure is lighter! I invented this recipe, in the late 1970’s, way back before “Mocha” was even a known thing! And if you add some Baileys or Kahlua, OMG, it’s delicious!
Pam!?! It’s always lovely to see her in videos and y’all enjoying the outdoors! Friendship is so beautiful 🥹 Having the options if needed make hiking and backpacking feel so much less daunting.

I always love your videos but this is a particularly great one. You are so fun to watch and relatable in a lot of ways but Pam is relatable in a different way-someone who is coming to this new and not always as confident in the outdoors. I really hope she takes her husband and baby in a little beginner hike soon. And shares some video.
Always, always, set up camp before swim, and I would argue, set up your bear hang too! (Though now I have an ursack, so maybe no more bear hang?) Backpacking food is SO MUCH better now, you have no idea how bad it was! I honestly kept backpacking meals in my desk the last decade of my teaching career as emergency backup food. Good enough for lunch, and still cheaper than eating out! Yay Pam! Always good to see you!
I LOVE seeing Pam in your videos. As a plus size lady who wants to get back into backpacking it's really very encouraging. I would love to see more content with her.

LOOOOOVE THIS ONE!!! You all together being amazing and wholesome makes me so happy and hopeful. My question/request is this: Could you please do a show and tell of Rainer’s tent when he has Tucker, and then of Rainer’s and Abby’s gear/packs with all their work stuff; and perhaps a little run down of their role in filming while you’re chilling. IE, I noticed Abby was filming shots while you all were eating. How do you work that out? Do you (Miranda) help by boiling her water and getting her meals prepped while they get the extra shots, or do they come back and do that later, etc? A behind the scenes would be nice. Also, that clip of Tucker doing whatever he was doing and Morand’s and Pam’s reaction…GOLD. I watched that so many times.
i love the parts where you get to sit and chat with your friend and share your feelings. its authentic, and gemuine. thank you for sharing your trip with us!
Miranda and Pam...everything I want and love in life in one video. ❤ The beautiful friendship. Content that smashes the Bechtel test at every turn. A concrete example of what true equity and inclusion looks like. Otherworldly alpine vistas akin to many not far from me here in Oregon, triggering the deep longing for wild nature that initially drew me from Iowa to the Pacific Northwest, and inspiring me to better appreciate what others come from afar to experience. (Pam's appropriately awed response to what she beheld perfectly encapsulated that longing!!) Your channel is basically the antidote to everything toxic in our world...getting regular doses of MGO sustains me and all who love your channel. Thank you SO much. ❤🌲 🚶🏻♀️🚶🏼♀️🌲🌄❤
It’s sweet showing others beautiful hikes and helping them experience what they wouldn’t do alone. just always do your own research on the area so you know what to expect. complaining doesn’t help anyone.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE FACT THAT YOU GOT TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER WITH ONE OF YOU BEST FRIENDS IN SUCH A GORGEOUS PLACE. MAY YOU SHARE MANY MORE GOOD TIMES IN THE YEARS TO COME!
This was a awesome episode with you all together. It's great to see Pam again and congratulations on her baby. You have some beautiful views out west .
Glad to see Pam back. I enjoyed the video of her hiking for the first time. She seemed like she'd keep going. It's nice ya'll can share this from time to time. It doesn't look like it will be long before Milo will along for the trip.
Love Pam! So nice to see someone with not as much experience doing what makes them feel good with their body. Love the representation of the non typical size 0 hiking!
I was the mom that had a kid in the friends group. It is so hard to pretend to be "pre-mom." Also, your friends lose touch because we are on different paths now. This video made me cry because I would love to have a friend like Miranda that wont look down on us for forget us just because we have kids. Yes, I am mom but I was ME first.
Love these videos with your bestie! Miranda you are the friend we all need, fun, loving, supportive and motivating! Congrats to Pam on the baby and don’t feel guilty. It’s ok to have “me time”. It makes you a better mom!
Trekking poles are amazing. From short hikes on flat ground to strenuous mountain trips, they relieve so much pressure and are great for stretching. Also. The secret sauce of good people is absolutely necessary on & off trail. Great advice. May we all find our secret sauce buddies.
6:42 That totally makes sense to me. It's like a "security blanket" of hiking (without the weight of a physical item 😉). If it's a longer trail, I would be more likely to hike it if I know that I *can* stop if/where I want, even if I don't think I'll need to.
Love a trip with Pam! Your friendship is beautiful, and the communication between you is so good. I also love how these showcase different types of backpackers, both in experience and body type, in a very positive, uplifting, but also honest way. And thanks to Pam's pro-tip, I'm definitely going to look into picking up some trekking poles!
Ahhh!!!! One of the best parts of doing these videos with Miranda is getting to relive the amazing trips we go on again and again.

Otherworldly alpine vistas akin to many not far from me here in Oregon, triggering the deep longing for wild nature that initially drew me from Iowa to the Pacific Northwest, and inspiring me to better appreciate what others come from afar to experience. (Pam's appropriately awed response to what she beheld perfectly encapsulated that longing!!)
Your channel is basically the antidote to everything toxic in our world...getting regular doses of MGO sustains me and all who love your channel. Thank you SO much. ❤🌲 🚶🏻♀️🚶🏼♀️🌲🌄❤
That was SO sweet! Thank you, Miranda and Pam and Rainier and Abby and puppy-doggy!
I love this friendship! Talapus/Olallie is such an gem of a hike, too!
I love your videos with Pam! I hope she joins you on more trips. I am a plus size gal and watching here gives me some confidence that I could do it!
Hilarious! You two are the Laurel and Hardy of the backpacking world! Beautiful scenery…always enjoy witnessing your beautiful friendship. .
We LOVE Pam!!! PAM!PAM!PAM! (In the tune to the bridge song)
Pam I feel you! I get so exited I just FLY trough the trail and then sit at the camp wondering what exactly was the rush. 😂
I would thumbs up this video 10 times if I could. Pam is awesome!
Yay Pam is back… such a fun episode but than again I enjoy all of Miranda’s videos
4:27 YAWWWWP!!! 9:47 YAWWWWP!! Great to see Pam again! Glad that RUclips doesn’t have Smell-o-vision… just sayin’
me saying goodnight to tucker 😂love to see pam back on the channel!
Love Pam hikes! I hope we see lots more, as Pam's schedule permits. :)
It’s sweet showing others beautiful hikes and helping them experience what they wouldn’t do alone. just always do your own research on the area so you know what to expect. complaining doesn’t help anyone.
Pam Pam Pam! So excited to see her again! And yes to trecking poles for any sized person. Makes it so much easier
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE FACT THAT YOU GOT TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER WITH ONE OF YOU BEST FRIENDS IN SUCH A GORGEOUS PLACE. MAY YOU SHARE MANY MORE GOOD TIMES IN THE YEARS TO COME!
I am so glad you posted today, Miranda! So glad to see Pam feeling so comfortable; can't believe she's a Momma❤
Well, now I want videos of Milo and Jayne and their hiking adventures.
Congrats on the baby, Pam.
This was a awesome episode with you all together. It's great to see Pam again and congratulations on her baby. You have some beautiful views out west .
*insert excited squeal here!*
I love all the episodes but you and Pam remind me if me and my bff❣️
Omg and we need a Milo and Jayne hiking video please!
Awesome how both of you vibe together, your friendship looks adorable :)
Glad to see Pam back. I enjoyed the video of her hiking for the first time. She seemed like she'd keep going. It's nice ya'll can share this from time to time. It doesn't look like it will be long before Milo will along for the trip.
Thanks for the laughs and smiles AGAIN!!
I love everything about this. Everything.
Love Pam! So nice to see someone with not as much experience doing what makes them feel good with their body. Love the representation of the non typical size 0 hiking!
Loved this! Pam is great so I can see why you love her so much! Thanks for a fun time!
I was the mom that had a kid in the friends group.
It is so hard to pretend to be "pre-mom."
Also, your friends lose touch because we are on different paths now. This video made me cry because I would love to have a friend like Miranda that wont look down on us for forget us just because we have kids. Yes, I am mom but I was ME first.
You have no idea how relatable that is ❤
Tucker and Pam in one video?!? My day is made!
Hooray! It's the Miranda and Pam Show!! Haven't even watched it yet, and I can't tell you how tickled I am! 😊
❤ Pam is so cool and being a mom she's over the top give her our love
Hooray! Love to see this sweet and enduring friendship!
Congrats to you Pam on your cute baby!
Miranda and Pam! My own type of Valium when I'm feeling anxious. Thank you.
The Kula cloths hanging out on the back packs are cracking me up! Love them!
I agree with Pam's recommendations. Shoes, poles and a comfortable bag ! Especially if you're like us, plus size ! (And yes to the fun friends too !!)
Love these videos with your bestie! Miranda you are the friend we all need, fun, loving, supportive and motivating! Congrats to Pam on the baby and don’t feel guilty. It’s ok to have “me time”. It makes you a better mom!
I love this so much it's just so lovely to watch all of you together I was smiling the whole time
Trekking poles are amazing. From short hikes on flat ground to strenuous mountain trips, they relieve so much pressure and are great for stretching.
Also. The secret sauce of good people is absolutely necessary on & off trail. Great advice. May we all find our secret sauce buddies.
Always good to hike with your besties! TY!❤😊
Of course, we love your videos but also love seeing Pam and congratulations! ❤
6:42 That totally makes sense to me. It's like a "security blanket" of hiking (without the weight of a physical item 😉). If it's a longer trail, I would be more likely to hike it if I know that I *can* stop if/where I want, even if I don't think I'll need to.
Exactly!! Just having the option makes the whole thing seem more doable.
PAM! Great video!
Even Dingledads loves Pam!!!
Me and my BFF just did this this weekend! Hike to a lake, camp and come back! You guys are great!
So nice to see Pam again. Fun friend trip!
Looked a great hike and location. Always enjoy when the channels I watch bring a close friend along.
Yay pam!
YAY!!
