      @adventuresofshadowdog

    • @adventuresofshadowdog
      @adventuresofshadowdog  3 месяца назад +1

      A lot depends on the rocks I’m tumbling. First, assuming we are tumbling agates or jaspers, which are quite hard at about 7.5 on the mohs scale, I plan on at least 10-14 days in stage one. I’m so busy that they usually are in the tumbler for the 14 days before I check them. By checking, I mean rinse the old grit off and examine them. Usually I fine they need longer, but that can be subjective depending upon what you personally want to see in the final product. If they need more, I add fresh water and new grit and run them another 10-14 days. Sometimes they need yet another stage one run. Once I’m satisfied with the shape and size and so forth, I run stages 2-4 pretty much by the book. 7-10 days in stage 2, 7-10 days in stage 3, and 5-7 days in stage 4 with some ceramic pellets added to buffer them some. I only use ceramic pellets in the final stages and I rinse them off and reuse them. Plastic pellets work too. One last thing: after the final stage, I rinse them off really good and then run them through about 3-4 hours again with a few chips of bar soap. That cleans all the polishing compound off really nicely. Use cheap bar soap without lotions and other stuff. Cheap plain old fashioned bar soap. And then finally, after rinsing all the soap off and after drying them and letting them air dry for a good while, I buff them with a micro fiber cloth. That puts the final shine on them!

One of the 5ah batteries lasts around 30 minutes of straight use so I’d bring an extra just in case. I found an agate in the volcanic rock by enterprise with the face poking out of a rock and used that drill to get it out. Took a good amount of time but it worked. Wow! So this Chalcedony seems to blend into the Olivine & produce a greenish Chalcedony. This would explain why there are so many colors. I believe this Volcanic type is of a higher M.O.H. rating, by the fact that the crystallization of it is so dence & compacted suddenly, under the highest of temperatures & pressure.

    I assume you aren't able to say what general location you are at?

    What is that blue bar you use for digging, I’m older and don’t want to be bending over all the time.

      It’s made by Estwing. It’s a pry bar on one end and a poker on the other. About 18” long. I “think” I bought it at Ace some years ago.

    Enjoy the videos but how many TICKS?

      Believe it or not, I have never had a tick in Utah or Arizona or Nevada. They are here, but I’ve never picked one up. Back when I lived in Ohio and Kentucky, I picked up my fair share. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Or maybe there just aren’t as many. Shadow gets his monthly flea and tick med, so he never gets them. Maybe his meds are rubbing off on me when he snuggles with me in the camper! 😂

    Question, why wouldn't Petrified Wood end up being without color or of a differnt color other then brown, black or white? It's like some of the tree's D.N.A. is still in the chert? Shadow has trained you well! 😂

      That is an excellent question. I will try to research that. Thanks for raising the question as now I too am very curious. And YES, Shadow keeps me on a tight leash! 😂

      Petrified wood can be colorless. And it’s known in many colours. Look up rainbow wood from the Petrified Forest, it’s stunning.
