Awesome video and Awesome garnets! They are one of my favorite rocks. It’s awesome to see and have a dog like shadow they can smell things we can’t, he can probably smell the different minerals and other scent that the rocks give off that we cannot. Just let him smell the rocks after and then tell him to find more, just coach him on and tell him where is it and let’s find some more Shadow and good boy.
It's only been resantly that I've realized that garnets can have differant colors. Looks like a fun time and it's good to have a partner like shadow with good radar.😊
Thanks Colleen! I learned a lot about Garnets while making this video. They are a really beautiful gem. It was a lot of fun finding them. Shadow wants me to tell you he appreciates your nice comment. 🐶😎
Thanks for watching and commenting. Please check the weather before you go as the elevation of that area is high and I think it might be under snow by then. Maybe even by now. But I hope you get there sometime and wish you good luck!
Hi Lance, lucky you with Shadow, he finds shiny stones. Our dog, Antares, just finds the stones in front of her that I have to throw for her..... she doesn't like sticks. Thanks for taking us along. Saludos from Spain.
Shadow is such a good boy 😊. Many years ago, I remember finding red Garnet in a Mica Schist, which is a metamorphic rock if I remember correctly. I think I was on a geology field trip in Scotland at the time.
Hi John! Yes I believe you are correct that Schist is a metamorphic rock. It is fascinating to me that Garnet forms in different types of host rock. This was my first time finding Garnet. Thanks to Shadow we found some nice gems. Thanks ever so much for watching and commenting. 🐶🐾😎
There are metal detectors and there are rock & jem dog detectors, Lol. Good ole Shadow! How fun!...great garnet finds! I've been to Topaz Mtn several times & found gems. But never the Wah Wah mtns. I would love the coordinates & give that area a try, if I may ask.
@adventuresofshadowdog ya, wasn't planning until probably April, May. I like to plan ahead, gather notes & places to go before... we want to head down your way as well as I told you. But first, I'm hoping to build a truck camper from scratch so we have something light to travel in. Do plenty of rock & jem hunting. It's gonna be lots of work, but fun! I have been talking to your buddy Dave from "Endgame campers" & other people. Getting different ideas & soaking up knowledge. 😉
Just last Saturday, Nov 23rd. The location was about 2 1/2 hour drive from my home. Left in the morning and came back that evening. I would have camped overnight but my friend that was with me wasn’t prepared for that and we drove together. And it was getting cold! 🥶
This was my first time looking for garnet. I do believe many we found are facet quality. But I don’t have others to compare them to. Thanks for watching! 🐶😎
Yes I would be happy to! Copy and paste these coordinates into your maps app and it should give you directions right to it. Let me know if you need further help. GPS: 38.51936, -113.58820
How fun to find your own Garnets Have you considered bringing home the sand that was strained out. You could pan the sand and see if you find more garnets !
Yes maybe 2 dozen and then found some in the rocks that im trying to figure out out to remove without damaging the stone. I thought about using muratic acid to see if it works. Your thoughts?
That's awesome! Shadow has a sense and such a bond with you! Animals are the best 🙏♥️
Animals really are the best! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🐶😎
Another amazing trip with you and the Shadow hound…..please keep em coming. You fans on the west coast.
Thanks so much for the encouraging comment! Shadow’s tail is happily wagging. 🐶😎
I love it that you are so informed about the elements and such a great teacher. Thank you!
Thank You! I learn it all from Shadow. 🐶🤪

So good to hear from you, Rob! Antares is a great name for a dog. What kind of dog is Antares?
@@adventuresofshadowdog It is a dwarf schnauzer and has, I guess, the same size like Shadow. She turned 11 the 18th of this month.
That's because he's welcome he knows what he's doing
He’s a good boy and he knows he’s loved. 🥰

@@adventuresofshadowdog I thank you!
I do believe there may be snow on the ground there now. You might want to wait until spring.

Great video, I hope to get to Utah someday to search for gems. Were the ones you found facet quality?

Great finds! I live in Provo and would love to hunt for some Utah Garnets. Could you share a location in which I could look?
Yes I would be happy to! Copy and paste these coordinates into your maps app and it should give you directions right to it. Let me know if you need further help.

Great suggestion! Thank you! 🙏 😎🐶

Training a dog🐕🦺 to recognize a pricey gem 💎wow! Sounds like you are ready to breed a pack of rock hound/ers! I'll take one please.🐕
Shadow somehow trained himself. He is the best little rockhound. And full of love too! 🐶❤️😎
I was there just the day before you guy's.
That’s crazy! Did you find some garnets?
Yes maybe 2 dozen and then found some in the rocks that im trying to figure out out to remove without damaging the stone. I thought about using muratic acid to see if it works. Your thoughts?
I thought garnets were red. It’s my birthstone. 🤷♀️
They do indeed come in red! They also come in a variety of other colors. In fact, almost all the colors. Garnets are truly an amazing gem stone. 😎🐶
I’d cut it!
I believe you could! Just jumped on your channel and saw some of your work. Way above my pay grade! Awesome stuff.
