My daughter spent 30+ days on NICU just after her first day of life. She was born through vaginal birth canal and was fine until day 1, when was diagnosed with a small anorectal malformation and a sacrococcygeal teratoma.
After many interventions she's doing fine (removal of teratoma, anorectoplasty and coccyx and S5 vertebrae) but I always think about the absurd amount of antibiotics she received and how to colonize her with good microbial biodiversity.
    She feeds exclusively on breast.

Omg….thank u so much for this video. I had a relapse of Bulimia for the last 4 years after I managed to stop this behavior over 20 years. I feel ashamed of myself. This video made me realised the damage I caused myself. I definitely felt more sensitive around my teeth and sore throat and my eyes seemed redder.
I watched this video twice and I will continue to watch this to remind myself to stop this mental behavior.

Can not being breastfed as an infant predispose you to illness later in life?

Vasavi you raise a great question. I do have a passion for this area and have written a book "The Healthy Baby Gut Guide". I will be doing an upcoming video on common baby gut issues 😊

Why do babies have diahrrea at first? Is it because they have a very short intestine?

Because they’re not used to processing solids
