Ben The Coin Geek
Old Pueblo Coin
The problem I have with most of the US mint stuff is that the premiums are typically very high, yet they almost never limit production on anything to make it collectible. . . very little hype or excitement on anything. $76 for an uncirc eagle. . . . lol. You are also right about the ASE design . . . Not only is the design rather tired in my opinion, but the ASE is probably the most counterfeited bullion coin and the only thing they have done is add that security notch in the rim, which the counterfeiters more or less immediately copied. The Britannia and Maple have legitimate good security features and have significantly less premium.
I can always count on cracking a smile over your witticisms thrown into your informative shows, thanks teacher!
I do like the flowing hair coin.
I'll add a vote for the flowing hair medal. Classic. It'll be the first flowing hair "coin" that I won't be afraid to hold directly in my hand without a holder 😅
The mints prices are too high for me. generally if you wait a couple years you can get stuff a lot cheaper.
Happy New Year Ben!!
Hi Ben
All this talk about Browns and Eagles. Ben needs to start the Old Pueblo Coin Fantasy Football League!
I'm interested in the flowing hair medal but it's really gonna come down to the mintage for me if it's high that's not really a collector piece to me and the Mint has this where they mint stuff into oblivion and the secondary market price is just horrible. If I buy I want to know that a few years from now I'm gonna get some sort ROI that's worth it since there overpriced already.
I completely concur.
Browns fan here. I came for coins…I got that. BUT I also got bonus browns coverage! You nailed the life of a browns fan. You must originally be from this area and had the good sense to find some better weather!
Very interesting, dear friend.
They need to add security features to the ASE ASAP
I'll probably get the Flowing Hair silver medal, even though I hardly buy anything from the Mint anymore.
I bought the beautiful 2023 American Liberty silver medal and hope the next design is just as gorgeous.
Hey Ben
As a coin collector, the 2024 US Mint doesn't have anything worth buying.
The 2024 flowing hair liberty is probably the only thing I'll be buying.
No silver eagle proofs even?
@@_CYB0RG_No, too expensive now.
@@indivisibleman8596Have you seen the price of the following hair medal from any source?
I’ve been trying to find the cost of it. So far no luck on that.
If they do the Morgan/Peace reverse proof I’ll buy.
The Morgan & The Peace Dollars Are the only mint product that put away, the proofs last year were stunning!
Looking forward to seeing the release of new Presidential intaglio prints
Your absence right. I'm a Cleveland browns fan and we agree with exactly what you said. And i happen to think that about the mint as well.
Interested in the Gold Flowing Hair coin but 2800 is so steep for an ounce, not sure if i’ll pull the trigger
Hey Ben, HNY - I ordered the Morgan / Peace proof single coins - the women's quarters PDS, Morgan/Peace reverse set of two - I am thinking of cutting out the women's quarters but only way I could get the S mint roll without what I feel is overpaying on the open market - Best Wishes - Hope to be at the show if my wife drives me - fingers crossed!!
I subscribe to the Morgan and Peace dollars in uncirculated and proof. Also the ASE in Proof for the West Point and San Francisco mints, and the ASE uncirculated from the West Point mint. Thanks for all you do for the collectors, Ben. Happy New Year.
I'm cancelling all of my subscriptions from the mint! At least until they come out with a low mintage beauty. Maybe the flowing hair gold coin that goes with the medal if the mintage is low enough!
When I think about beautiful silver coins being minted.....the Republic of Korea's Tiger series are some of the most beautiful coins on the market
there was supporsed to be a 2 oz space force medal come out in the last half of 2023 and it never did, i hope they release it, my collection of silver medals for each military branch needs to be complete
Same here! Seems like the Space Force 2.5 oz medal got lost in space.
I've been getting the clad P D S quarters for about 15 years now. I pay one price and get them in the mail like a Christmas present every now and then.
How they price the palladium coin will be interesting as palladium has dipped and held that dip pretty much. I've read forecasts calling for $750 palladium in 2024 so to me if we end up at 750, or even if they keep in that 1k area, they have to have a much lower price on the palladium issue for 2024. I'm hoping for under $1,500.
I would really like to see a designer series, where each American coin designer is featured on the obverse of the coin, and their design on the reverse.Make them proofs, and on the actual coin they designed. For instance, George Morgan's portrait on the obverse of a silver dollar, with Morgans orig. design on the reverse, in proof finish.Victor Brenner on the obverse of a Lincoln cent with his orig.Lincoln portrait on the reverse.
I typically buy a clad quarter proof set and the Morgan & Peace issues but that's it. There's way better buying opportunities if you can resist the FOMO crowd and wait to acrually get your stuff from a third party.
I’m loving that 1975 military coin I love the fact that it shows the old military with I believe a rifle, and then the new version of the military with more of an AR style gun I’m a sucker for military stuff so definitely will be something I’ll pick up if the prices right either
Well, it’s definitely worth it again just has to be something that I can afford
Is there a price that’s on those military ones?
I feel like they largely fail to convey much of what she did with the Harriet Tubman coins. They're kind of a disappointment for me. The quarters don't do anything at all for me. I mostly like the look of the military medals.
The Flowing Hair silver I'm quite interested in. I wish they would have seen fit to make them an actual coin. Other than bullion pieces the Flowing Hair is likely the only thing I'll buy. I hope they don't botch it 🤞🏻
Hi Ben. I love the US Mint. I love the ASE design. I collect all the ASEs. I collect all the silver Commemorative Dollars. I am now collecting all the M&P Dollars. I also collect a 1/10 oz Proof AGE every year. I collect the Women's Silver Quarter set. I collect the Silver Proof Set. I will probably pick up the Flowing Hair Silver Medal. I'm going to be spending a fortune at the Mint again this year. I quit buying clad proof and mint sets after 2017. That saves me a buck. I think the Mint should put out a different classic coin re-strike yearly. *--->* 🦉
Ben ... You might consider enhancing the name of your channel... The Coin Geek ... Stream of Consciousness for Everyone!
Hey Ben! One thing I love about the American Women's Quarters... I have many friends that can relate to these women in one way or another, so I like to give them an uncirculated P, D and S in a capsule... and also the clad proof set... hoping in the long run this will turn them on to coin collecting... it also makes gift giving easy for me which is a bonus!
Wish they did Molly Ringwald, Marilyn Monroe, and Carrie Fisher- so many people of Generation X would love a Molly Ringwald reverse proof.
@@GardenerEarthGuy well, as far as I know Molly hasn't passed away so she isn't eligible! I was hoping RBG would make it on a 2025 quarter, unfortunately she didn't but I do really like the women they've chosen!
Choosing more famous people definitely would have gotten more interest from the public, on the other hand there's lots of amazing people that never get recognized and I think they were focused more on lesser known women, which is important to deepen our knowledge!
@@cgcoins3639 I agree! History is great!
I have never ordered from the mint. Seems like you can find coins second hand for less after some time goes by. That is my perception anyway with no data to back it up.
I've been collecting since the early 2000s and the only purchase I've ever made directly from the mint was the 2020 v75 eagle .
Spent an hour gong to my cart and trying to check-out then getting booted off and then sent to CAPTCHA jail .
That ordeal was torture .
I almost busted my laptop.
Most of the products you can find for a discount on the secondary market after 6 months .
So I highly doubt I'll ever make another purchase from them again.
I had the distinct pleasure of talking to director Gibson for a while at the ana show. She really is pushing great concepts and seems to be listening to the numismatic community as a whole. Unfortunately for everyone involved though, a bunch of uninformed boomers have a lot of the final say in what happens at the mint.
"It's called being human." Guilty as charged!
The Harriet Tubman $5 proof gold coin is now listed at $718.00 USD. Beautiful coin and almost 1/4 troy ounce of gold.
I predict that you will be the only one buying this coin.
@@StB55-oi9yp It's a great design, but a 1/4 ounce AGE is around $100 less. The premium is just a bit too high for me on this one!
If it is anything like the first lady gold coin series, resale value will basically be at spot gold price.
I buy plenty of US Mint products. On the secondary market and close to melt.😂
Ha ha almost three months later most stuff is still backorder, but hey they brought some nice packaging back!
*HERE WE GO!* *GO COWBOYS!*
Donald, the future of Texas is with the Texans, not the Calloused Doughboys. 😂
I bought Kennedy half’s,sac dollars, proof sets, and mint sets every year since 2001 to 2019 from the mint. When co-vid hit the mint was not consistent. In 1921 the silver proof set price was too high and only two quarters in the set. Even though they were 999 silver the cost almost doubled. I quit buying from. the mint in 2020
Why does the mint mark up the price of the gold Buffalo's so much? Gold is around 2000 dollars, but they sell those gold buffalo's closer to 2900 dollars. I would love to buy one but not at that mark up. As for what I buy, a proof set, the Morgan's and Peace dollars in all the iterations, and that's it. I will probably get a Flowing Hair when they come out.
Of course, the US Mint does not pick the topics for commemorative coins. Those are determined by the US Congress and signed into law by the President. So, you can't either praise or blame the US Mint for the topics. They DO decide the coin design, so you can praise or blame them for the design.
One other thing... people like to blame the Mint for lots of things... no one ever talks about writing, calling and emailing their Senators and member of the House to create legislation the Mint would have to follow that would fix the many complaints...
So let's take some responsibility... the people we've voted for haven't done anything to change things at the Mint, time to blame ourselves!
Tom Brokaw coined the term, I think. The Greatest Generation. References the generation to fought against the fascists.
After the reverse proof Morgan and Peace becoming a regular event- not really anything on my list from the mint.
Just nothing that is of interest to me...
I canceled my order for reverse proof after I saw they were making them again.
Flowing hair silver metal and 2024 uncerculated set for me and that's about it nothing else from Us mint..
My collecting is based on what I consider to be eye appeal. Rarely do I purchase U. S. coins because of the poor design. Latvia is a country that has minted some coins with unique and beautiful designs. The 2016, €5, ZEME coin is one of my all-time favorites. The 2020, €5 coin, RIGA is another. Belarus has produced Bird of the Year coins in different denominations that are strikingly gorgeous.
Thanks for that!
The 2024American Literty to was not a very good piece of a coin.I like the 2021 AmericanLiberty coin I was sick when the coin came out .Now the coin is to high to buy .
Bring the mercury dime back
I agree FDR was a tyrant.
Meh, modern US mint product are woke and mediocre at best.
Ventris Gibson needs to resign.
I stopped purchasing proof coins, they more than doubled in 5 years
You can be sure whatever they put out will be grossly overpriced with mostly really poor designs. The only good designs they come out with are old designs from early last century.
There is one thing that is already determined though… they are overpriced and underwhelming.
Tubman coins will not sell. They are horrible looking.
Too much woke, boring, and money grab junk from the US mint. The Royal Canadian Mint and the Perth Mint is where quality and innovation is. The only good US coins are the old ones and I wish I had more of them. That said I bought a metal detector and will be digging up the good stuff or searching eBay and shows. Slabbed silver eagles are overrated. You can sort a box of 70 grades and find problem coins.
All of these just sound like crap that you'd wish you didn't get in a yard sale grab bag.
It’s all crap! Please don’t make videos on innovation dollars or women on quarters!
I absolutely agree
The US Mint is completely woke.
I am done buying from US MINT. Quality is terrible. Coins struck off center, smudges, cheap packaging. Will not buy another coin from them. Ever. I will stick to stacking the quality stuff from 100+ years ago.
3rd, Y'all.
OOPS. 4th.
