- Combination of multiple early spring trips (May) to target fluke in New Jersey and New York waters. I outline three spots to target flounder, show the catch, and show the location and factors I considered before fishing. The video was filmed in spring 2021. Check out my Targeting Flounder or Flounder Spot Series playlists for more videos that show you how to catch more flounder in less time on the water.

Really like the contour explanation FDF. Look forward to more.
Great stuff, cant wait for the fluke to move in this spring!
They are here! Tight lines.
Hi Rich, Your locating the big ones again. Fishing the structure is the way to go. I'm missing fluke fishing since I moved to Missouri. We do have Large Mouth Bass in the pond next to the house but I miss saltwater fishing. The good things are the gun laws and a gun range near by. I go shooting much more often. Keep the great videos coming. Take care and good luck, Mickey
Thanks Mickey. Hit a bullseye for me next time you are out!
Hi Rich, I'm getting better with practice. I hope you have a good season. Take care and good luck, Mickey
A huge thanks to everyone for checking out this video..commenting, liking, and sharing! And...we now have Fat Dad Fishing hats, shirts, jackets, etc. Check it out at: fatdadfishing.com/shop Tight lines!!!
Great video man. I got alot of respect for the guys doing it from a kayak, got to make every drift count. 👍
Thanks for checking it out. I love fishing from the kayak. Best decision I made was getting rid of the boat for the kayak. It takes longer to get places, but I can get to areas boats can't reach.
@@FatDadFishing that's why I run such a small boat but even then I can only go so far 👍👍
I had a 19' Carolina Skiff and it was just too big to get into the creeks and areas I really wanted to fish. Definitely smaller is better in the backwaters.
sweet
If ur in WWood. I’m in a green native & my buddies is silver. We’re always together. Yell out.
Keep an eye out for me this summer. I fish the entire NJ coast, but I consider that area to be my "home waters".
@@FatDadFishing did real good yesterday. Even with that wind. 22.1/2 & (4) 18’s. & 3 shorts. Right behind houseboats at N. WW. Marina. [About 2hrs]
That's a heck of a haul in 2 hours! Well done fighting the wind and catching fish keepers! I'm planning a trip this weekend but not sure where I'm headed yet.

Great video as always . 👍👍. Question, what happened to smart fishing tides. I tried to prepare for my next venture and it brought me to salt strong
Good question. Apparently Salt Strong was getting so much usage on the site and the costs increased so much for the feeds that they restricted it to Insider members only. I've been a member for a few years and would recommend you check them out. You get the smartfishing tides, but also a 20% discount on some tackle, and all their courses for free. If you decide it wasn't worth the monthly subscription you have 365 days to cancel and get all your money back. But...even though it isn't focused on the fisheries north of southern VA I think you'll find value. Hit this link and you'll get the best pricing right now: bit.ly/3i2PCqX If you do join give me a shout in the Community so I can follow you there.
Love you videos and just sub. I am getting fat dad that just bought a yak and like to know where do you launch your yak at?
Thank you for subscribing! I actually launch from many spots. My normal fishing is done anywhere from southern NY down to southern NJ.
ARE WE STARTING WITH PINK THIS YEAR. (I started with white)
When targeting flounder specifically I would start with white. I used the pink in this video because I was targeting both flounder and weakfish. I'm starting with brown/white, and white this year.
That first fish is definitely not 19 1/2 you measured wrong. Measure with the mouth closed up against the start of the ruler. That’s a 18 inch fish all day
Thanks for checking out the video. I have to mention this from time to time in comments or actually in videos...I am aware of the fact that measuring a fish with the grips in the mouth can give a measurement that is longer than the fish actually is. I only use this method of measuring when I do not need a 100% accurate measure. In this case I wasn't keeping the fish and speed to release the fish was more important than accuracy. I may also do this on fish that are obviously over the legal limit. At the end of the day I remeasure any fish that are kept and they are usually within 1/4-1/5 inch of the initial measurement.
Great information. Thank you. One thing though; measuring your fluke with the mouth open is not correct.
Yes, you are 100% correct and its good to point this out. I do a proper measure on fish in plan to keep. When I plan to release them I try to do a quick measure for the videos while still using the grips to save time. Any fish that I am going to keep will get a proper measure afterward. Thanks for the comment and thank you for watching.
@@FatDadFishing I catch the majority of my fluke on similar structure in the Long Island Sound.
LI Sound looks to offer some amazing opportunities. For my part I haven't been able to make it up there to check it out yet, but I plan to this summer.
Great tips and video, however your not measuring the fish correctly. The lip has to be shut when measuring. You were adding a half inch to 3/4 inch to each fish. Be careful with close ones. Fish and game will teach you a lesson.
