first of all, great stuff, fascinating to watch, and love how you maintained the stock grommets without epoxy. secondly, maybe you're totally aware, but i believe the wire stripper really need not be sharpened, because with the combo tool open to 90 degrees, the knife blade is commonly used to pin the wire against the base of the combo, the tool with wire pinned is then rotated around the wire a couple times to cut through the wire sheathing, and then at that point the stripper works great. it just gives me personally a bit of survivalist anxiety to see the can opener possibly weakened 🙂👍
Thanks for watching! I totally understand that the sharpening is not necessary on the wire stripper; I wanted to try it out this way but it won’t be for everybody. This is not the tool I’m going to bring camping, or even to work really, so it’s not mission critical for me if something should fail, but great point nonetheless. A lot of people want a one-and-done tool for every situation and I definitely wouldn’t recommend that particular mod for those situations.
Haha yeah I may have gone overboard with that. As for the watch, I wear the scratches as a badge of honor; it only comes off for the real dirty work lol
@@edwardfletcher7790 I did not, but that seems like it would be quite useful. I personally rarely use the cap lifter or can opener on any tool so any additional functionality is welcome there.
@@zachlyndeYT I saw it on a SAK collector channel called "HobieonRUclips" he was showing the first Alox Pioneer 1957 model.. The video is called " The first Victorinox Pioneer". It's such a beautiful knife. I'd love to be as happy as the kid who got one of those for his 16th birthday in 1957 👍🤩
What size magnet was that that fits in the hook? I thought I found it, but the one I wound up with fits in the traditional can opener (Which is great for my SAKs with the opener layer). I’d love to add one to my compact though!
Great vid! Thank you for sharing! you took the most practical knife and made it cool while keeping its essence
Thanks! That was the goal! I like SAKs of all colors but it’s hard to beat the classic red.

Nice job!!
Thanks! I’ve been carrying it every day for the last week and it’s been solid. Of course way more functions than I’ll ever use, but still a fun carry.
I love what you're doing Zach, but that V wire stripper notch is crazy oversize !!
Be careful not to scratch that nice clean SKX while you work !

@@zachlyndeYT Do you know that the early SAK's (1950's) had a wire stripper edge filed inside the curve of the cap lifter ??

@@edwardfletcher7790 I’ll have to check it out. That would be a heck of a birthday gift lol.
Wow you just murdered that poor SAK 🤕
And from the ashes will rise a phoenix lol

It’s 3mm x 2mm. You could probably go a little bit thicker (like 2.3 mm) but this fits well enough
