When weightlifters jerk they are aiming to drive the weight straight into that elbows locked position to avoid having the lift being judged as a "press out", meaning a missed lift When I came to cheerleading the most valuable piece of advice I got was give the skill enough power to have the flyer hit their weightless point at 3/4ths extension then press out the last quarter. Immediately my skills became more stable because I could control the lock out
Yes! I found it difficult transitioning to the press out style as needed when I went to cheer the day after weightlifting. There is also another technique I use which is to slightly throw it higher than needed, catch high and settle and recover like you would in weight lifting. I'm actually going to do a video on the two techniques! So thanks for sharing that!
