You are probably young enough to be my daughter, I will be 63 in May 2019, retired and starting my own self-employed company. As I say to everyone, "DREAM YOUR DREAMS UNTIL THEY COME TRUE!"
Tip 5 is essential. I have had some serious information overload lately, and I had to start organizing it. It's too easy to keep learning and researching but not do anything with the information.
I am starting my own business after working at Quaker Oats for 26 years. I am a singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor, filmmaker, ventriloquist, writer, and for a hobby I do woodcarving. Music has been my greatest passion. But have used all of my talents to form my company. It is a fine arts studio videography business. I was forced to retire early in 2014 because of my health. I have asthma. Ten years ago I found out I have COPD, (emphysema) when I found out I had COPD I quit smoking, 10 years in January!!! In 2013 I had the worst asthma attack I've ever had, from all the oat and cinnamon dust at work. They had to put me on oxygen for an hour before they could send me to the hospital to get checked out! It was at that point that I decided to retire wether I could afford it or not! I have too much to live for. I was going to retire vertical not horizontal! In 2016 I developed stage 4 colon cancer. I am in my 4th year of chemo. Fortunately not had to have radiation yet. It's been a long haul but is looking positive! With all my medical bills, and others. My pension and disability, just isn't cutting it! Thus the business. I am 63 years young. Still singing, dancing, doing puppet shows in the community, filming live events, participating in and filming open mics on a volunteer basis for a nonprofit business called THE ARTISAN'S SANCTUARY. Through the Sanctuary I've met a lot of potential customers for the company and still meeting others all the time. Until my company is up and running. My services are offered free, great practice and experience. And I love it!! Tip #8, I've been gathering information on how much my startup cost will be, to stay in business for 2-5 years to get the loans paid off. So far it has been 2 years of research. I'm hoping to be up and running by the end of this year or the first part of next year. I have a small briefcase I keep with me along with all my music, puppet, or camera equipment. It contains a paper note book, large sticky notes, pens, and a 2 year calender planner. And a large, leather, business card case. To keep all the business cards I receive, and to hand out my two personal business cards I made myself. One is my film logo with all the info on it. The second is my puppet show logo and info. Always do what’s best for the client! I hold my families accountable and for results with thank you notes
