in terms of the plasticity of the brain and its development...children who do not grow up with musical instruments and learn to play an instrument, of one kind or another, and kids are not encouraged to sing (especially if you grow up with and have a crack at opera singing...that can be a tad intense, i guess...for unemotionally expressive parents, that is...they will want to shut down all that expressing to give themselves a break, i guess...) THEN it follows, they do not learn to teach their own brains how to FOLLOW THROUGH...and, for me, having studied philosophy, i understand just how difficult it can be trying to excel and to think THROUGH to logical conclusions...i spend half my time thinking i am a bit brilliant and shiny and quick witted and the other half completely undoing that and wasting so much...time...on self-doubt...learning at an early age that you absolutely can follow through and even master some 'thing' (that is not a thing) is absolutely crucial to any child's well-being and development in life...
