    -------
The Saturn VUE is a compact SUV that was sold and built by Saturn, and it was Saturn's best-selling model. It was the first vehicle to use the GM Theta platform when it was introduced in 2001 for the 2002 model year. The VUE was later facelifted for the 2006 model year. A second generation model was launched in 2007 for the 2008 model year as a rebadged Opel Antara. The VUE production in North America ended as GM wound down the Saturn brand during its 2009 reorganization.
A wheel hub assembly (WHA), also referred to as hub assembly, wheel hub unit, wheel hub bearing, etc., is an automotive part used in most cars, passenger vehicles, and light and heavy trucks.
A bearing is a machine element that constrains relative motion to only the desired motion, and reduces friction between moving parts. The design of the bearing may, for example, provide for free linear movement of the moving part or for free rotation around a fixed axis; or, it may prevent a motion by controlling the vectors of normal forces that bear on the moving parts. Most bearings facilitate the desired motion by minimizing friction. Bearings are classified broadly according to the type of operation, the motions allowed, or to the directions of the loads (forces) applied to the parts.
Rotary bearings hold rotating components such as shafts or axles within mechanical systems, and transfer axial and radial loads from the source of the load to the structure supporting it. The simplest form of bearing, the plain bearing, consists of a shaft rotating in a hole. Lubrication is often used to reduce friction. In the ball bearing and roller bearing, to prevent sliding friction, rolling elements such as rollers or balls with a circular cross-section are located between the races or journals of the bearing assembly. A wide variety of bearing designs exists to allow the demands of the application to be correctly met for maximum efficiency, reliability, durability and performance.
The term "bearing" is derived from the verb "to bear"; a bearing being a machine element that allows one part to bear (i.e., to support) another. The simplest bearings are bearing surfaces, cut or formed into a part, with varying degrees of control over the form, size, roughness and location of the surface. Other bearings are separate devices installed into a machine or machine part. The most sophisticated bearings for the most demanding applications are very precise devices; their manufacture requires some of the highest standards of current technology.

Finally got this job done yesterday. Replaced the left front one first, didn’t fix the noise and rumble, left hand side removal went rather easily. However, the right front side, done yesterday, was a seized together parts situation. The axle nut needed plenty of persuasion, with a 3/4 in drive breaker bar, extension, 34mm socket, and penetrating oil. Separating the hub-assembly from the CV axle required, as you said, lots of hammering to get the seized parts separated. Thanks again for sharing this informative how to video!

Many thanks for sharing! Have to do this job on my 05 Vue 2.2l 5 speed manual. At 272,000 mi., the front wheel hub assemblies don’t owe anything more. Already done the back ones. They were roaring something fierce. The front replacement will hopefully quiet it all down even more. My Vue doesn’t have the ABS. Thanks again, Sir!

Forgot to put the CV shaft axle nut back on. Thank you for the informative video. I was hoping it wasn't going to be a tough job. I have to replace both of mine on the front. How long did it take you to complete this job?

haha funny joke. I think the car wouldnt make it out the driveway before you realized that one.
Me? Maybe an hour give or take.
Depends on your tools, wear, skill, distractions, weather etc
If its a nice newish car, dry climate (no rust) with no seizing and you have good tools, then its a 20-30 minute job.

My 04 Saturn Vue is not giving up it's hub bearing. I even wasted money on the Hub buster and after hours of hitting it the bearing hasn't moved. I wish mine is as easy as yours

    • @TutorialGenius
      @TutorialGenius  4 года назад +2

Easy as mine!? haha! I was hitting this for 45 mins with a hammer and chisel. It was far from easy!!!
Get a chisel set from harbour freight,. its $11 with 20% coupon. They are green in color. You'll know when you see them
Whack the chisel between the bearing assembly and the mount. Upgrade the chisel size each time and work your way around. It'll come off. It'll look like crap, but its dead anyway.
Clean off the white stuff with a steel drill bit, anti-seize on, and install new.

@@DJMovit the pack comes with around 6-7 flat head chisels. One of mine cracked, but 6 left to work it. They are $1.75 each chisel on average. Manual chisel have more control and less fear and chance of f***ing up the mount for it.
Hope the air chisel works, let me know how it goes!

Get used to these wheel bearings being a pain in the butt to remove if you live in the north. I've replaced 2 and you're gonna need a good slide hammer/sledgehammer.
