@Joseph Autumn I'd say if post grad educational options are available to you go for it. You can end up working on valuable and meaningful projects in science and engineering that contribute to society rather than wasting your life at a desk doing pointless soul sucking work for $$. I try and dissaude kids for working in banking; why would you when there are a lot of interesting fields from fintech to biotech (even applying ML to mri imaging) to choose from.
The fun fact is that your pay per hour at a bank like GS is not substantial higher than at other employers you would work for as a Business School graduate!
Great vid!! Thanks!!! Clear, honest and to the point! 👍🏽
I wanna watch this video all day
Great content on your channel, really appreciate that! I would love to see a video on how to improve one´s excel/power point skills and what are the most important things to know there. Anyway, keep up the great work! :)
I don't plan to work at Goldman Sachs, but this was an interesting watch.
so what exactly are your analysing?? as it seems you just keep saying you take notes at a meeting go back re-develop it and then distribute?? do you not analyse the market and make macro economic decisions etc???
Don't take the word "analyst" on it's face value here.
Belvin Nadar right, an analyst is just Wall Street terminology for a younger, lower level employee. He works in sales, selling financial products under the Goldman arm.
Man this isn’t worth it. After college I got a job same pay but work 6-7 hours a day, flexible and relaxed (pharmaceuticals)
The difference is that after 2-3 years his salary will go into triple figures and will keep on increasing with his experience
Waqas Ali Imam that’s the same in my field (biopharmaceuticals)... it’s six figures
Sounds perfect for an investment banking analyst 👍
I know nothing of this business however I must say I personally would record meetings like I do at my job when we do have meetings, I record them and review them. Interesting occupation I must say. Thank you for the privilege of your time Sir.
Thank you sir, the best video on investment banking.
those are not soft skills. theyre hard skills.
Great catch! It was a long day of recording and that mistake slipped through. Thanks for noticing. Have left a note above for viewers :)
Highly valuable insight, thank you for the video Afzal.
Always a pleasure!
amazing stuff, could you do a video on your role specifically, I am interested in sales in asset management so it would be great to hear.
Of course! Will do in due course. Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos. Always appreciated :)
Looking for a new financial relationship myself; What deals your institution like doing; And what type structure?
You absolutely did well here Afzal, however I wish you spoke frankly about the realities of office politics, the traps of unspoken corporate etiquette & bullying...
Excellent overview with very helpful insights. Thank you so much!
Can't even handle a 9 to 5.30 most days! I'm a grad consultant at a specialist consultancy with project deadlines and annoying clients and day to day is similar, have my peaks where I may work the odd late day or week but doing that everyday working 12-14 hr days. I guess you get paid double and work double too
An analyst makes about £55,000-65,000 plus bonuses and allowances. So that is definitely worth the workload. Good question? Would my previous work experience affect my application, if I didn't work in an Investment Bank, but I have a Masters in Finance? I would be applying for the associate level.
Great video. Thank you for sharing this, Afzal!
My pleasure! :)
Thank you so much for this it's so insightful and precise
Soft skills are traits and personality, hard skills are excel, power point, due diligence. Cmon now
Love this video! Please do a video on the GIR division :)
Nice to see you that you are taking an entrepreneurial journey, as someone who cold messaged you on LinkedIn a few years back? About guest posting on Canary Wharfian. Since then I sold that website and I am a coder. All the best!
Hey! Great to hear! Thanks! Hope it's going well :)
This was hilarious, these guys have a fancy name for everything. You wanna go for a cup of coffee with a college, you are doing internal networking. You wanna move up in your career, they don't say kiss ass, they say expand your external network of communication skills with other departments. Wanna get drunk and have fun? Yea, you should probably work on your social skills and improve in that area.
I haven't seen a video so entertaining in like forever.
Tin Casino lol i agree whenever i look at jobs in the finance field they sound so fancy like u have to be uber smart to do them like an average joe could never do them
575leena that’s wall street for ya
This just opened my eyes as banker we're all in the same boat LOL Thnx for your content!
Thank you so much Afzal this is so useful even when applying to those banks
Working almost 100 hours a week is the key for hapyness bros.
Believe me, maybe you'll never have any time to spend all the money you win decently, but your sons and wife will strongly thank you, believe me.
In addition, I'll say that having no private life is the BEST lifestyle.
vey insightful video, Thank you!
Organized & rich content. Thanks a bunch.
10-14 hour days?! I'm sorry, but I'm not giving that much of my life to a company.
@ChildofSevilla rekt
have fun working at McDonalds with that attitude Lol. You sound like the type to think like this but blame "the system" for being lower class
sofa king yoked brah lmao no?? 10-14 hours a day working is not needed nor is it worth it. Much higher paying jobs working wayyyy less hours a day
@@brandon2melissa Some people enjoy it. I say 12 hours is a normal day. I'm a SE and I love every minute.
pigeot911 for sure for sure! If you enjoy it that’s amazing! Just referring to sofa kings ignorant remark
Would love to see videos more on investment banking assessments management, compliance
