Hey Afzal, thanks for the video. It'll definitely help me this summer! Can you do a video about leveraging an internship offer, and some of the advantages/disadvantages. Thanks!
Right now I am doing an intership and Iam focusing so hard on those things! My goal is to work for an investment bank after university or in a similar field. Thank you so much for your videos, they are great! Greetings from Germany!
I have been told by my family that I must work overtime unpaid- past my internship hours- to impress my manager. But I feel like this is a pushover move and it is not setting boundaries- otherwise work will always expect me to do this. If one of my goals is a healthy work life balance how would working past work hours help?
Afzal, as always thank you for your informative content. I was wondering if you can expand on the "final project". What kind of project do you exactly get and how does the process work? Thank you!
1 month into a 6 month internship, fingers crossed i'll put your advice to work! What would you say about standing out and putting on a show if you feel like you can bring more value to the team?
Hi Afzal, would it be okay if you did a specific video on Asset Management? This is a division within finance I am interested in but would appreciate your view as you have worked within Asset Management at Goldman Sachs. Your videos help break through the barrier of understand the real world rather than that of studying finance in lecture theatres. Many thanks Afzal👍
Hi Afzal, your videos have been very insightful! I have a question - I graduated with an BsC in Math/Stats in 2012. I took a 7 year break from analysis but have recently reignited my passion and want to move into the field of finance. What is the likelihood I could get an internship given that I have taken such a long break. Do you have any recommendations of what steps I could take to show that I am committed to learning the field - such as masters/CPA/actuarial exams/personal projects to post online?
Hey Afzal, do you know if the tips you are given can apply to other finance / accounting internships? I have an internship at PwC and I was wondering if in other financial services (other than investment / banking) would put as much emphasis on these tips. I ask this because your tips seem very good, but also put a lot of pressure on interns (especially networking with higher ranked individuals in the firm) and the stress on performance.
Yes, UK internship applications open late August / early September and close last September - December. So, you won't really find anything now. Wait till Aug / Sept to apply and you have to be in your penultimate year of university.
Hi Afzal, So I’m Interning at BofA in NYC and I’m kinda in a dilemma. So I’m basically working in a middle office role where I’m directly working with Traders at an S&T desk. The issue I have is that I want to be in S&T and I’ve been networking a ton with the people in the S&T division. I just want to know what is the best way to go about switching from the role I’m currently in, into the S&T role I desire. Because although I want the full time offer from this team, I also want an offer from the S&T division. So how should I go about the switch? This is all within BofA btw.
Hi buddy, hope you're well I'm in year 12, going into year 13 and need to decide what I'm gonna do, always wanted to get into investment banking and am confused about the traditional university route or degree apprenticeship. If you could make a vid explaining banking degree apprenticeships, especially the ones that UBS, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan offers and whether it's front desk or back desk...etc Thanks mate
MrFlyingSourcer I did an apprenticeship in a London Investment Bank in the back office (most apprenticeships are within back office) and then after the 18 months moved to a front office role. So apprenticeships definitely offer good opportunities
Good question. It's a tricky one and really depends on your relationship with your manager. You'll know a mentor when you have a unique mentor/mentee relationship with them that is noticeably different from other working/colleague/managerial relationship. Though I feel I've poorly worded this I hope it helps!
Hey Afzal - i am enrolled in a summer Arabic culture history class and for my final project I have to interview someone who identifies as Muslim. I’m graduating with a BBA in corporate financial mgmt, and would love to chat with you for 30 min if you have the chance!
Hi Mr Hussain, I am going to start my MSc in Finance in the University of Manchester with the intention of getting into Investment Banking. Is Internship a viable option for Master's student. Would I be considered for an Internship?
Bro I have a question , I started uni right after sixth form I was at imperial doing physics but the course was so hard and I didn’t enjoy so I dropped out . I took a gap year which basically right now to find out what I want with life I want to get into investment banking and will start uni this September I’m 19 now so will graduate 22/23 I was thinking would I be looked at different to employers because I might be a year or two older then people graduating with me ?
Besides excel, what other software is used frequently or would be useful to add to your toolbox: sas, python, r, tableau, sql? And for financial modeling, would Benningna's text be sufficient?
V lookups, sumifs and pivot tables / charts are all fundamental excel skills that are great to have, especially when applying for roles. If you already have an offer & are going into an internship, training should be provided to bring you up to speed.
They vary and are always team specific. So it really depends on your division and team. They will consist of leveraging the firms resources and your internal networks in order to improve a process, or come up with an interesting idea, etc. They'll 9 times out of 10 require you to present your project towards the end of the internship.

No don’t worry, age is just a number and employers won’t recognise or look at your age but rather the value you bring and your skills, experience etc.
Besides excel, what other software is used frequently or would be useful to add to your toolbox: sas, python, r, tableau, sql? And for financial modeling, would Benningna's text be sufficient?
powerpoint. IB is all about pp and excel
not many IB's give a crap about ur programming skills. PPT and excel are OK.
