Gotta give credit to the crew for laying her down like that and holding it steady.
Yacht 46 52 people didn’t know that. Lol
I don’t think it’s challenging to walk up the sail. It’s challenging to keep it steady
Absolutely brutal to... *looks at notes* hold the boat at a range of similar angles for *looks again* several seconds while someone *looks* quickly hops the length of *again looks* several adult humans! :O le amazing...
No, I don’t have to do anything, I don’t have to give them credit. They are Master Sailors, I would be shocked if they couldn’t do that.
I hope this is a joke@@DuzBee
What's more impressive is the skipper's control
amazing not to succumb to weatherhelm
thats just what i thougt! i never sailed before so idk, but isnt it rly hard to hold the ship clam and stable like this at sutch a bank angle?
LOL Alex is the skipper of the boat. He also does a keel walk, to show how extreme these boat's are.
Alex was number 2 on the last Ocean race/single-handed around the world in 2016 !! Next race is in 2020. Where Hugo boss and Alex Thompson is one of the favourites.
Try looking him up, and see how extreme the real race is. The French military has some great video of him alone on the boat, with the same lean on, and a broken foil.
Sorry about my bad English 👋
Amen
@@pizzapower95 It doesn't depend on the angle if it's not broaching
I think the boat needs more and bigger hugo boss logos.
Kingjeffkoch Stop hating on sponsors that's the only reason Sailing is still alive.
Kingjeffkoch yes, I find them rather understated as they are.
Kingjeffkoch Wait, are you saying this was a Hugo Boss ad?
Kingjeffkoch That's right I couldn't notice until read this. Good eye
+fromkentucky You don't understand...we don't care of logos, it's with in return of that we can enjoy an awesome race like the Vendée Globe...
Hugo boss is the best gear to wear when you are going to be mast climbing. Trying any other brands would be suicidal...
dah'..oneDude said about video:'Makes me want to buy a suit.' - yea'for.. *Sure.* (funny'tho..) *it* ..makes me want to take a shite.
Hugo Boss is also the best gear to wear when you are a nazi.
the nazis said the same thing
@@walkman1984you REALLY tried to shoehorn that nazi reference in huh, it really doesn’t make sense
I was most impressed by his leap from the first boat to the other. smooth.
WE CHANGE CREW LIKE THAT UNDER SAIL ALOT. ITS LIKE STEPPING FROM ONE TRUCK BED TO ANOTHER AT TEN MILES AN HOUR. TRY IT WITH A MECHANICS TOOL BOX ON YOUR SHOULDER. WILL FRIAR ALL ISLANDS MOBILE MARINE SERVICE THATS ME
ABSOLUTELY...so impressed!!!!!
@@willfriar8054 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
James Bond style
Without the Hugo Boss suit he would have drown immediately! Imagine if that suit was made by Tommy Hilfiger - insta suicide!
Does anyone know who sponsors this boat?
hmm, perhaps maybe Hugo boss? I couldn't see it clearly tho.
Superfly
Men's wearhouse
Yeah their stuff is crap lol. Don't buy from them, overpriced and bad quality. Had glasses but they really disintegrated themselves after 2 years
SSOB
Why not tack and walk down the other side?
AakeTraak i think he wants to live
AakeTraak Yeah! That would be awesome (But also requires someone with a death wish)!
Ben Harris uh you do realize he was tethered the whole time til he jumped
jolllyroger1 So?
+AakeTraak That will probably be the sequel
LOL the actual jump from the mast didn't end in the same way the film lets on. He certainly back slammed on the first jump!
Try watching it again dipshit. Watch his right leg as it folds over onto his back. Same dive, just two different camera angles.
chris smith alright big man, calm down. Didn't realise he was your lover.
chris smith You cant (shouldnt) jump jump from that high and place you arms upright from the beginning, plus the parabola is also wrong. And finally, why didnt they show the whole jump? They showed how he climbed from different angles and repeated it. The jump is even more impressive! I wont buy Hugo Boss
That's one reason. The other reason is for faking a very nice stunt unnecessarily ;)
Rayco Ferrera
There is another video on how they made it. It took 2 tries but there was only one jump. The first try, the boat lost the wind.
I don't always walk up a sail mast, but when I do, the boat heels over from my greatness.
I like it . There’s something quite manly about this and it’s not telling me I have to be a better person , bravo 👏🏻
Ok, that was cool, but, I would be really impressed if he walked to the top and then they tacked the boat and he walked down the other side back on to the deck and grabbed himself a martini, "shakin' not stirred".
I'd like to see what the galley looks like after heeling over that much ..
njåå..oneDude said about video:'Makes me want to buy a suit.' - yea'for.. *Sure.* (funny'tho..) *it* ..makes me want to take a shite.
@@Island_Line_Rail_Productions it's just a carbon fiber shell inside. For meals they eat something very similar to MRE's.
wow.. that's fantastic.. well done Alex for pushing the boundaries yet again
I wouldn't call it pushing the boundaries. Heaps of people free climb rigs and jump off. We used to do it on Dad's 50 footer when we were kids.
Credit to the crew for holding the boat at that angle - and fair play to Alex for running up the sail and throwing himself off the top - I'm sure it looked horrific from the top? Personally I'll forgive him for his diving style( I certainly wouldn't do it!)
Hats off to Mr Thomson ...and the skipper !
Alex Thomson is the skipper!
most impressing thing about this for me as a non-sailor is how they managed to keep the boat this way for so long. wow. edit: ok now after watching the behind the scenes I know they didnt. impressive anyway.
It hurt my soul to watch him run on that beautiful sail. That was not a mast walk, it was a sail walk
I agree, aren't those carbon-fibre and super-expensive? Cant imagine the boom would have broken from walking on it.
@ kevlar, and he would have been walking on the mast, not the boom
@@gameswithcullen3388 watch again. You can see the sail stretch under his feet as he steps. There is a cable running up the sail close to the mast he appears to be staying on. Doesn’t look like the usual rigging I’ve ever seen.
@@gameswithcullen3388 Very clearly walking on the sail.
Now THAT is what I call advertising! :-)
the first time was advertising the second time i believe is called a re-run.
I imagine that a 30 m mast at an angle such as that brings down the jump height but that isn't the point the point is it was f***ing awesome.
To bad nobody showed him how to dive without smacking yourself in the face.
It seems a little fake...the dive seems to finish in another way...
There is literally no reason to fake this, it would be harder than actually doing it
+tristramwebb he was joking you moron
James Bond style. Must be an awesome feeling standing atop the mast like that. Epic
I'm quite confused, this video is just a guy running on a 40° sail and almost backflopping when jumping out of it. I'm more amazed by the crew laying the boat like that tbh
... that is the point Alex is making :)))
You should try...
even at 40 degrees, its still 23 meters. Also watch the behind the scenes, this was not their first attempt. pretty scary when the boat rights and he's still halfway up.
@@levio1463 I just searched for other footage.
Here's one where the mast is both almost horizontal, and almost vertical!
The dude has to save himself on a strut. Also slides down the sail.
ruclips.net/video/LoZKFLC_dbc/видео.html
Sacré Alex , quelle classe ! Attention les enfants, à ne pas reproduire à la maison....contentez vous de vous parfumer.....
Marketing: We need more space for advertising. Any ideas?
Alex: Let's just turn the boat on its side.
Given the landing, I'll assume diving isn't his area of expertise... That and he was doing it in a three piece suit!
I want to see the uncut version ;-)
If only he'd kept his legs straight! ;-)
Incredible!
Alex. tu apportes une vision décalée de la course au large. l'humour et le marketing sont présent . tu es un vent de fraîcheur
et en plus quel marin !!!!
Well... Its one way to change an anchor light.
Amazing!!!
Absolutely incredible! Subtract 2 points for the bent legs on entry.
I'm more impressed you can sail these boats keeled over so hard without capsizing. Canting keel or no.
weatheranddarkness engineering is cool, right? ;)
Damn straight. The modern mono designs are really something. Have you seen the new America"s Cup boats? or all the funky foils and mass shifting on a boat like Wild Oats or Comanche? Or the latest in Moth racing?
Would make a nifty Bond film moment.
I have congenital disabilities, and so I've never walked, climbed, stood or dived this well, let alone looked that good in a suit. I think it was impressive!
Well, that's the worlds dumbest advertisement for a suit
Robert Tinsley be reinsured, I do not think you are their marketing target.
Why's that? Is it because I'm fat? Or because I'm in a wheelchair? I do have four suits , fat people in wheelchairs have special occasions, too, you know.
Without any shadow of doubt, the very best promotion stunt yet.
My Grandmother could do that with six bags of groceries and make you a turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich with romaine, honey mustard on one side, olive oil mayo on both sides and a slice of tomato before she hit the water and still be able to catch two to three sharks. But nice suite though.
Magnifique
cool! I used to climb up my 12M Magic. 26 meters high. not to shabby either. and then you we're weaving left and right..
“If this goes wrong, I might fall in the ocean! 😱”
At the end: Jumps in ocean from the highest point.
Me: Seems legit
Going wrong in this instance means the mast goes back up too quickly for him to react, and he falls 30, 40, 50 feet or more to the deck. I had a friend that died falling from the mast of his boat down to the deck.
Mike Betts A valid point, but I’m not the one you wanna take that up with, I just quoted him. 🤷♂️
@@Nevir202 Agreed. Not knocking what you said. Just adding to it.
The mast is 30 mts upright. As it was on an angle, he was probably only 5 to 10 mts from the water.
Shane Jackson Again, not the point.
He made it sound like it would be bad if he fell in, then jumped.
Was just funny. 🤣
James Bond style!
Well it was a pretty good dive!
i love Hugo Boss, but this would've been much more astonishing if he weren't wearing trainers... kinda dissapoined at 1:07 :s
Cool! Did anyone catch what it was advertising?
Quelle Audace !....
Bravo, Alex, you're the best !....
:-)
From Brussels, with Love...
Great Scott, nice sailing ! Thumbs up if you wanted to see that sail hit the water !
what a magnificent boat!
STILL HERE AFTER 7 YEARS-FROM ITALY ROME
Is there any part of a boat you're not prepared to walk on wearing a suit? Great vid!
I don't seem to be able to get away from sailing. Well now I'm land sailing in a camp-over Arctic Fox. Best in Class.
So sick nice one dude
Just having a yacht isn't good enough for some people.
What type of shoes should I wear
Every where, you are.
pat selby Depends on what you want to do in them. If you want to climb a mast, there is no better choice out there that Hugo boss shoes. Anything else would be suicide.
Man those sailors deserve all the credit. That mast was damn hear horizontal, its not even climbing, its walking slightly up hill. He makes what he thinks is a manly mug at the camera though.
People still pay for just the name this days? It's plenty cheaper and better quality staff out there
PS I do own a boss suit, regardless of who designed it...Art before prejudice.
Great little clip to watch :) Nicely shot and sends the message of the thrill. Can't think what's wrong with the negative people...
Imagine chilling at a 90° heel😂
PLZ😂😭
... and then, he was eaten by a shark.
I wish
Thank God there are still MEN willing to do daring things.
This bloke who goes months and months at a time with no sleep just to beat the French, you don't need to mast walk to impress us.
He never actually beats the French though. He usually just twats his boat, limps home then makes videos about himself
And again he is wearing a suit 😎😎😎
Why is there a cut in the video between the beginning of the jump (where he obviously looses the balance and starts to turn toward his back) and the plunge (where he miraculously seems to have saved the situation)? His immersion position is so extremely bad, he would have hurt himself badly in a 30m jump. But maybe the boat turned so much that the mast top finally was only something like 5 meters above water level...or so....
A bit surprised that you guys elected to report us to RUclips for copyright when we only promoted your video via our network without touching or altering it ... Quite disappointing really... Sébastien
Perfect Sailing to heel her over and Alex is definitely James Bond and if not should be. What a star he is.
Hugo Boss - because you know those Nazis looked fantastic.
WOW your my hero
First jump was really smooth. Last jump made me think of John C Reilly in Boogie Nights.
Have had to go up the mast
..underway during an ocean race to free jammed lines
..very scary.
This video is GREAT!!!
How‘s the music called?
I don't see what all the fuss is about, I can do that on my Mirror dinghy!
Awesome!
Forgot to add, I could do this in my y fronts and string vest and get them to tack and go down the other side and still not spill me pint of beer
This video I think exemplifies much of what is wrong with sailing and why fewer and fewer people are taking part in it. This is neither heroic nor impressive. It's some dingus in a suit climbing a carbon fibre yacht with Hugo Boss written on it. Hemmingway wouldn't have written about it, that's for sure.
Like a boss!
This is awesome, weren't expecting you to dive off the end. MAD as a hatter.
You’ve come a long way since our Britannia days and sailing my yacht from Cornwall to Warsash..:-)
The first time I watched this I thought, 'he's not going to dive off there surely.' Then he did! How high was that dive? 15 metres maybe? Impressive:-)
15? HAHA, its 29 meters high!
@@sarakasakura69 The mast might be, but it was leaned over by about 45 degrees so I'm thinking maybe half that:-)
@@ianrkav oh that's right haha 😅 I was thinking of the mast!
@@sarakasakura69 De nada:-)
I've never heard of anyone completing the "Inspectors Walk." It's a double mast walk basically, where someone walks up the mast, the boat rights itself and then the mast is angled the other way and the person walks back down the other side.
the hugoboss link is broken.... too bad, for a cool campaign....
He may do the dive himself, but by the looks of it he over-rotates and lands on his fucking back. Probably the reason for the retake
Hhmmm...The landing was edited. I believe he over spin and fell on his back.
*DONEdeal:)* - yet..oneDude said about video:'Makes me want to buy a suit.' - yea'for.. *Sure.* (funny'tho..) *it* ..makes me want to take a shite.
Humm!! The first part of the jump (body , legs movement) and the second part(landing) doesn´t add up.There something wrong!!!
I’m not a sailor so i don’t know all the lingo but, i thought the mast was the pole. Walking to the top as if on a balance beam( hands are cool) I’m thoroughly impressed! Running up the sail not so much.....also Charles Barkley would have something to say about that “dive”.
Mr Alex, i need to sail with you once in my life! Awesome stunt! This boat sails like hot knife cutting butter!
Ouch. To walk up the mast and then rag doll head first into the water. That one looked like a neck injury.
It's simply awesome, I would have chosen to slide town the mat tho
I forgot to put the sound on so it was just a guy being an idiot for me.
What a BOSS!
Its these little moments of entertainment that make life fun. Good stuff Alex!
*that was pretty cool*
yup, saw it twice. Sharp video, but I think they should have cut the dive shot just before his decent turned into what it would look like - if some 50 year old guy fell off his longboard on the way to work.
the guy is awesome, try not to be too jealous :)
So what the hell was THAT all about?
All about *'nothing..* NESS'? yet..oneDude said about video:'Makes me want to buy a suit.' - yea'for.. *Sure.* (funny'tho..) *it* ..makes me want to take a shite.
Great work Alex. Not sure why everyone is making so many comments about how bad the dive was. Im pretty sure that Alex is a professional Sailor not a professional diver. :) And Believe me this is NOT fake.
That takes real guts well done Alex
1:03 he did that like a boss
Freaking amazing
That's my favourite thing to do on (smaller) boats, tip it as far as possible without it capping.
Who was at the helm during filming Alex ?
Brilliant stuff !
This Vendée Globe without Alex Thomson and Clarisse Crémer will be a major let down. Shame on Hugo Boss and Banque Populaire for pulling their sponsorship, and depriving is of cheering for these two amazing sailors.
