as a young skipper, this is insanely inspiring, Alex if you ever read this comment, know that you have greatly influenced my existence and my will to turn my passion for offshore sailing into a career. thank you, from the bottom of my heart to you and your team. keep pushing for your goal my friend.
Nowadays thats True ~ But in the not too distant past Alex would have one of so many Tough world class Britts, Rose, Chichester, Blythe, Knox-Johnson, Goss, Ellen, etc etc etc
Sinon oui! Well he didn't do the line-crossing ceremony unlike every other skippers. Neptune sure didn't like as his boat soon developped problems after crossing the Equator.
Before, England was the land of ocean racing. But now, even the departure of OSTAR is in France (Brest instead of Plymonth). OSTAR, Vendée Globe, Route du Rhum, Jules-Verne Trophy, Transat Jacques-Vabre, Mini Transat, Transat Québec-Saint-Malo, Transat AG2R, Solitaire du Figaro, Vendée-Arctique-Les Sables-d'Olonne, etc.. Only races organized by France. The Ocean Race, Barcelona World Race, depart from Spain. It is only the Fastnet Race that interests the English (a little). And maybe, the Sydney-Hobart (well, only the sailors are interested in it)... But, if Alex wins this edition, then... A french Alex fan!
@@franckhokusai289 I completely agree with you! I hope Britain can provide more competition in future decades but France is undoubtedly the centre of yacht racing in Europe
I am a young sailor and ever since I found out about Alex I have been striving to be an excellent sailor and one day I want to get into the clipper challenge and hopefully the vondee globe, Alex, if you read this, you have inspired me for life, thank you!
This is one of the few things that really inspired me to get into offshore racing and even for nearly a year I was a semi pro boat captain and I love every minet of it
35 knots!!??.....Unreal.........kudos to you and your team....thanks for inspiring an Aussie sailor in the middle of winter down under......best I've done is 11 knots and she felt like she was flying.....best feeling ever.....couldn't stop grinning for days
The amazing thing about 2020 is that there are many insane boats competing. He should have walked over the competition in 2016 but 2020 is different. His boat seems completely off the hook but he’s not alone. This will be the best vendee globe ever. That said, I’m a huge Alex Thompson fan.
Brilliantly well filmed. Alex is an amazing and inspirational sportsman and human. So sorry his boat broke and he retired this time. He will be back to win in 2024.
Great film about amazing race you performed on the last Vendee Globe. I have to admit that I was demoralized in one point, not after breaking the foil, but after Armel took lead over 700 nm in Southern Atlantic and I "couldn't stand it any more". I stoped following the tracker for two days, but suddenly you started to sail faster and made amazing comeback of 700 nm (which is not mentioned in the film). You showed that it is never finished before the end and I remember it often in real life. Wish you and your family all the health and with Gods help the next one is yours.
Alex, I have thoroughly enjoyed following your sailing exploits and am wild with anticipation for the new boat for 2020 race. This was a great video which helped me further appreciate you, your family, the team, the race and the other competitors. Legendary stuff. From 1993 until 97 my wife and I sailed our Lavranos 36 25,000nm. Our average sailing speed was about 5kts. It is hard for me to imagine the kinds of speeds you manage to clock. Nowadays, my Laser is my sailing fun, if I can clock 12kts I think I'm flying. Wishing you, the team and your family all success in your new challenge.
The Vendee Globe and the IMOCA60 Class wouldn´t be the same without Alex. He did so many firsts and pushed the limits so intensely. What an inspiring person. And his boat designs still sail sucessfully until today! Alex, we miss you and your spirit dearly!!!
Madness gutsy Beyond belief but I realise challenge you just do it Go go go at ,71 yrs challenges are achievable Just did it myself but mate you got bigger balls than me well done.
Wonderful video, just so humbled by the fact that the human body can be pushed so hard, and still end up smiling. Many plaudits to the team, Hugo Boss and the myriad of sponsors, but in all reality - it's down to you Alex. Get the job done in 2020! Good on ya, mate.
what a story, what an amazing human being, a true warrior and huge inspiration for Brits but also sailors everywhere. The grit, determination and strong positive mind and body is truly incredible and packaged with the maverick risk taking style and warm personality makes Hugo Boss and Alex Thomson Racing such an entertaining and exciting product. am a huge fan!
I have always had a dream of sailing solo around the world or Volvo ochean race. IT is so inspering to watch Alex thomson. At Home i am competing in melges 24 and hoping for one day sailing around the world!

loved the video. I got on a boat last October for my first sailing lesson. Last week I helped a Scottish mate sail his Warrior 40 from Portland to La Coruna across Biscay. Dream big.
Thank you for this video...let the anticipation begin! I’ll be following the Vendee Globe 2020 very excitedly...good luck to all, and may the best sailor win, as happens each time :):)
11-15-2020 I watched throughout this day as they race the 2020 vendee globe. Alex increased his lead by 10 nm throughout the day. He now leads jean le cam by 74.8nm. man is on a mission on one bad ass boat!

I used to sail the Southern ocean regularly. We had a saying, "Below 40 there are no laws, but below 50, there is no God".
Imagine the kids. "Dad's home. He just sailed around the world in a race by himself, and won!" Amazing.

I've just discovered this very interesting documentary. Even if I'm French, Alex is my favourite for this year's Vendée Globe.

As a Scottish person. I very rarely want an English person to win a thing. Alex is the exception. He is a hero!
