This song is about unrequited love. He’s in love with a girl who has no idea how he feels. ‘Imagine me & you, I DO, I think about you day & night... Hence the haunting music & lyrics ‘How is the weather?’ near the end of the song because those are the only words he has the courage to say to her. Love your reactions :)
The year is 1967 the Turtles lead new american groups formed after the Beatles and we are in the age of pop music just for fun. Not deep but a fell good sound for fun.
For some people finding some to love and be loved by is that pursuit of Happiness,, each person has his own idea of happiness. this is a happy son and also reminds me of the We Five and the loving spoonful.
Wasn't that a sweet song ? We called that kind of music bubble gum music. It was a happy, bouncing-down-the-road song and they were that kind of band. Good in concerts too and they did a lot of them.
This is a simple song but it's beautiful too. I'm sorry you can't see that. It was a favorite song in my youth... It did and does soothe my soul, to this day. So you don't like it Savio, but your condescension is insulting. I am not simple, or have simple tastes even though I love this song. You don't have to beat the Hell out of a song. That is just mean, and disrespectful.
They were trying to appeal to the teenage people learning to learn the new dance styles of the time. A lot of the "Long Hair" music was forbidden by the parents. They had to keep it tame and lame to sell records.
You guys simple MUST try a frozen custard "Turtle Sundae"... It is frozen custard (like soft serve ice cream but much better), with pecans, carmel, chocolate fudge, whipped cream and a candied cherry. AWESOME! I brought it bc of the band name...
Funny how you've heard a song all your life and then sit down watch a fresh reaction to it, with lyrics, and never realized how dang simple a song it is. Always loved this song on the radio, but the lyrics are so benign. I guess it just shows that some songs are best just heard on the radio where you're not paying much attention.
Its amazing how many people completely miss the point of this song....

Two of the Turtles later recorded some interesting music as Flo and Eddie, and were part of Frank Zappa's band for a while
Very Wise Words...to live by...the happiness is inside of us..do not pursue it...it is already there. ..we just need to discover it.

100% agree.
The singer Mark Volman joined Frank Zappa's band sometime after this.

Well wait a minute. I saw you clap when the song ended? Then you seemed to get angry with this feel good song? Maybe meditation time? lol Yikes!
You me and the apocalypse ruined this for me
They did this song with Frank Zappa too. Album: "Live At The Fillmore East". "Here Comes my bullet…" - satire of course. I like Savio's point
"Hey Jude" was very repetitive. It was pretty good.
Alan hey Jude ‘was pretty good’
Under hype much.

Stealing Christmas this year?
The right to life liberty and property. Happiness actually isn’t mentioned but still a nice line and probably should have been :)
