Hey guys, I hope this video is helpful for you. I love this song so much. I will also upload a tutorial for "Morningrise" by Slowdive on Instagram in a few hours. Feel free to follow me there as well @berlinshoegazer.
The live version at pitchfork is awsome! Very nice and cool guitar too😊
This guitar effect is soooooo 90s... brilliant.
40 Days still keeps me up at night... The drone-like sound and alternative tuning are still a mystery to me.
Reverse reverb. Put the reverb first in the chain. Then your dirt like a muff. Thank me later it’s wild
@@nickklein4676 huh? There’s no reverse reverb in any of slowdive’s songs , maybeeee in morningrise but that’s it

The “shredding” part is played by Christian Savill. It’s awesome to see him do it live 😃

Also in live performence rachel and neil do the same guitar 1 to make a overdub effect but then neil do the guitar 3 in the chorus
I don't even own a guitar or know anything about music but when the sun hits is my all time favorite song so watching this has me blown away, keep up the good work!
pedals are history, screengazers rise up
But the latency tho
@@alexanderlagomarcino5878 I never noticed it with my setup actually. But I understand the concern.
The Shoegazer Channel has always been for screengazers. :D

Well done! Always loved that song. Such a wall of sound it produced and you covered it excellently!
Wow to be honest I've been loving this track all week and I didn't even fully notice the 2nd guitar in the back before this tutorial! Thank you for this video!
I really appreciate to see a well structured description.
Thanks for such a good channel. Shoegaze is one of my favorite favorites musical genres, and "Slowdive" one of my favorites bands ever. Greetings from Perú! 🇵🇪
Excellent tutorial, Kenneth. Very informative! Slowdive is one of my favorite SHOEGAZE bands. Keep up the great work my friend. Love the Jaguar!👌
That was phenomenal. I smiled the whole time just listening to how that all came together. Excellent!👌🏾
Thank you so much, Andrew! Makes me super happy to hear. :)
this video is awesome! i learned souvlaki space station and when the sun hits today because of you. awesome videos. thank you! in my head the first guitar part was the main part i wanted to learn but i appreciate how detailed you are.
Dude, this is amazing. Such a good job creating such a massive sound
WtSH is excellent. But Machine Gun, the 2nd track on the album, is definitely my favorite.
Prefect shoegaze dream-pop vibe on that one. LOVE the chords throughout.
First 16 minutes: "oh this guy just picked it up all wrong"
When he finally assmbles it all together: "damn he nailed it"
I felt the same when making this video.
Since there was no tutorials on this song or old live performances, I had to transpose it by Ear too back then when I listened to Slowdive a lot. And this was pretty much how I played it!!! Great minds think alike. Great Estrada minds haha.
Thank you so much for this! I have all the gear I just still needed an idea of how the different layers go together. This was so helpful. It's hard to pick out individual guitar parts with so much delay.
VERY nicely done !
Wow! This is great!
Primal is my favorite Slowdive song.
YESS THANK YOU Í HAVE BEEN LOKING FOR A TUTORIAL
Man, this may have been easy for someone like you to do, but it makes a really nice tutorial for some of us with poor ears. Thank you!
Totally AWESOME, amigo!
My absolute new favorite channel 🤘🐶🎸

The 3 chord chorus… amazing
Thanks for including a backing track and the ms50g settings!
Thank you for doing the third guitar (lead). It’s really hard to find examples of that. People have claimed that a phaser was used for this, and I find it interesting you didn’t use one. Thanks again.
Thank you, man. Super interesting !! 👌🏻
THAT SOUNDS SO GOOD WOW
Thank you so much, Sarah!🙏
That was so AWESOME!!!
Well done! Such a great song, as well as the whole album.

The overdrive Is probably my fav of the effects. Esp the pro od. A great tube od. Still looking for a good RAT sim
NICE WORK kEEP GOING
Thank you Adrian. I will.
Celias dream!!
Please do a tutorial of 40 days!!
That's a good video. I have a question about Slowdive which pedal will you use on their song Star roving? Chorus + Delay and overdrive or fuzz? on your is it the same thing that your tuto?
So how do you set this up when using it live? I’m implementing vst I my pedal chain (guitar - pedals - audio interface in - surface pro w ableton - audio interface out - more pedals - amp). However some say a reamp is a must! Haven’t used it live or cranked up yet so not sure if my setup is 100% stable but it sound good so far.
Sleep from Slowdive PLEASE
What electric drum set are you using (behind you)? It sounds fantastic on this track. I'm in the middle of trying to pick a set and would love to know what your using. Thanks and keep up the great work!!
Hey Randy, in this video I'm using Addictive Drums.
That would be awesome if you did When You Sleep by Mbv :)
13:30 YES.
PLEASE do one for Alison!
I like the outfit, but I can't help but think of 'Radar Technician Matt'.
Golden Hair !!!!!!
PLEASE DO ALISON

Can you do a tutorial on Starting Over by Lsd and the search for god?
... Perhaps I missed it in the video but when you show the effects on the screen is that the order in which you place them in the chain? So for example for the 1st guitar sound you have reverb feeding into delay feeding into the amp feeding into the chorus?
How do you play the g major and a major chords? Newer to guitar and that part has been a little difficult for me to do
I personally have to use an audio interface and VST plugins since I live in an apartment, I am also broke so it's cheaper to have to spend 90$ once than buying tons of pedals that have varying prices. There's this weird superiority surrounding analog, and it's annoying, because you can sometimes get something just as good with VSTs, even with free plugins. All of the plugins I use for my guitar are completely free, and work well if you know how to use them. Would you consider going more into this topic in your videos?
I'm on it. I want to explain what I love using and how easy it is to create shoegaze with it on a low budget and whereever you are.
Enigma- What plug-ins you use.? I’m started to try to produce a year ago and I haven’t found any plugin that sounds like this except amplitude which sounds a bit similar :(
And I have problems specially finding drum vst. (Sorry for my bad English)
@@ketchup696 Peavey Revalver is very good. You can copy your physical amp characteristics by recording the frequency spectrum of it but it's not very cheap and needs a USB for the license. Guitar Rig always has this annoyong high frequencies. BIAS by Positive Grid is really powerful and has the option to build your own virtual fuzz/distortion or even modulation pedals. You can even copy a physical one with it's recorded frequency spectrum. I personally love Kuassa as it's simple and super versatile and has very authentic amp characteristics. Better than all I tested so far.
@@ketchup696 A great and creative VST plugin for real drums is Addictive Drums 2. I also used Superior Drummer but it's expansive and you need to be very advanced about how to record real drums. ruclips.net/video/QoUfU7Ujtnw/видео.html
It would be great if you talk more of VST plugins focused on shoegaze/dreampop since every video about vst-guitar is "HOW TO GET THIS KILLER METAL TONE"... I'm sick of it
Please do! ♥
I'm on it!
@@berlinshoegazer Thank you Kenneth. Nice video btw

SHOEGAZER this is the first vid I’ve watched from you. I already love your content and also your guitar.
hey dude i’m a big fan of your channel. been watching a ton of videos to learn chords and improve my shoegaze playing. just curious do you have a go to tuning for just messing around or noodling ? i’m used to E standard, but there are so many different tunings i’d be curious what you’d recommend as a go to tuning for playing shoegaze.
Hey Daniel, I usually play around with DADGHD (I use this in almost every song) but sometimes I switch to DADGAD or DADGAE. These are the easieest to tune in to live and feel very natural when ideas come up.
@@berlinshoegazer DADGHD? I've never seen H in a tuning before lol. thank you for the response!

What's the fuzz pedal you use in your intros? It sounds so gritty and I absolutely love it
The song is called 'Smiley'. It's on my album 'Rocket Fuzz' unkennyvalleys.bandcamp.com/album/rocket-fuzz
Rocket Fuzz is a fuzz pedal by the pedal builder Devi Ever. She also worked with Kevin Shields on some pedals.
