Hey guys, I recently released a new single with my project Unkenny Valleys. Feel free to give it a listen. I'd love to know what you think: soundcloud.com/unkennyvalleys/shesavesmeagain
If you want some weird sounds making use of the fuzz grain, you should use the reverb ath the end of your pedal line. Before you'd be best with an Echo pedal. Or a delay with pitch modulation. What you're doing there with the reverse reverb is making you lose control on the sound you produce. Your fuzz likes compressed short bandwidth and you're flooding it with lots of noises putting the reverb before. I also suggest using a compressor first. Adding all this may be against the low cost you're looking for, so You can take the reverb out, use a little analog echo and that's it. And replace the tuner by a little yellow comp, it's cheap and does miracles for cheap setups.
I'm one of the originals - I was there the first time around in the UK in the late-80s, early-90s. Want some real old-fogey advice? Use ear-plugs. This style of music will catch up with you in your 40s - you'll go deaf; you'll get tinnitus. If I could go back in time, I would absolutely wear ear-plugs, every time. Good on you re: the low-budget thing by the way :) - the culture that this music came out of didn't have a lot of money. We were all on the dole, mostly living in squats. The best music usually comes from people who live on the fringes.
Hey Nick, thank you so much for your words. Of course we use ear plugs in the practice room. One time I lost a pair ... that was really no joy. I like it to become creative with having no money. Effects are not the world to do something awesome. In the end it's more about what's coming out of your mind and what the the situation incidentally brings up.
Hey. right on, Nick. Did you ever see any of the Manchester bands like The Smiths or The Stone Roses? Or some of the Rough Trade bands like The Libertines and whatnot? That seems like it must have been an interesting scene. I'm a Seattle naive so I was practically in the epicenter when the ''grunge" phenomenon vomited plaid flannel and Doc Martens all over the place. I saw all those bands in teeny tiny shit hole clubs many times.
What’s well worth mentioning is J Spaceman uses a telecaster thinline. It’s a semi-hollow tele with twangy humbucker. I’m sure u can find the Squier or Mexican versions on Reverb for cheap . Spaceman is of course behind Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized, while not strictly shoegaze, certainly provided a template for heaps of shoegazy bands.
Yeah man you can get hella pedals. There pretty expensive tho so pick em wisely 😂 I recommend a distortion pedal for your first but it depends on what music you like rely
...'and for shoegaze everything is possible !!' Yeah well said, that's why it's so cool. Signature sounds are boundless, jump on in. I have this Deus Ex pedal, it's a wholesome fuzzy thrill.
8a1ad61b or just any modulated reverb. I have a Keeley Caverns V2, and it is the single most shoegazey pedal I've ever touched. It has 2 different modulation settings for reverb AND delay, along with standard reverb and delay.
soul food od, to fuzz, tremelo, delay, joyo atmosphere, looper. ive never enjoyed playing , experimenting so much creating soundscapes and textures, considering in the 90's i started in punk bands with only distortion! thanks for the video!!!
@@berlinshoegazer I love it, after messing with it I felt like oh yes, this is the sound I want, super satisfied, when clean it works as a great boost too, especially well with my reverb pedal. keep up the great content !
I run all,my color pedals in the effects loop, the noise gate and wah - wah pedal. The distortion and over drive pedals are in the front. These two boards are for recording and practicing. I have a smaller board I take to gigs. I have a Fulltone 2 , a delay a Mooer pitch box and a Morley Volume pedal. I can put two extra pedal on it depending on what guitar I am playing and my mood.
My favorite effect pedal is the TC Electronic triple delay and it allows me to stack several layers of different delay, reverb and chorus effects at one time. It's $299.99 but it's worth every penny due to its versatility.
Haha. I totally understand that. I had a band called Feathers & Stars once. We played shoegaze doom music. It's been one of the most creative experiences I had combining these genres.
Mindblowing! I'm also in the process of dieting my board haha, we should form a support group for when the urge to buy stuff arises... Your sound is spot on, bravo!
Honestly any guitar can play shoegaze you just need the pedals for it. I play shoegaze on a squier telecaster affinity with a Donner fuzz and polara digitech reverb and it sounds awesome even without the whammy bar, has that classic MBV sound down pact
I love everything about this video. You’re awesome, Kenneth. A musical reference for me since you’ve put this one online. Thanks a lot! Also (: I’m sure a lot of people would love to have the ending song in this video as a complete song, it’s so amazing! You’re always inspiring. É nóis from Brazil meu amigo
Thank you so much for these lovely words, Manual. I hope you guys are well in Brazil.🙏 The end track will be released asap. My life is so chaotic. Haha. So I only can finish projects step by step. Stay creative and active! All the best from Berlin.
SHOEGAZER So Kenneth, my channel is going to be like a “manual” of alternative music. How would you like an interview? Honestly, as someone that introduced me to Shoegaze, it’s something I’d really like to do, to interview you! Tell me what you think ☺️ if you like the ideia we can schedule something. Wish you the best there in Germany as well! Hope you get to manage things well in your life. Cheers from São Paulo
pretty rad. saving up for a cheap but loud Randal 120watt amp head. two channels so I don't even need a distortion pedal. building a 4x12 cab. just need to get the trem working on my 86 Ibanez
Here's an idea for Shoegazing on a restrict budget: Zoom MS70cdr [takes care of all reverb, chorus and delay needs, go second hand for cheaper; also has a tuner] A Joyo/Harley Benton Ultimate Drive [30 euros] or a Moen Fuzz moo [Big Muff clone] for around that price [cheaper 2nd hand] Any cheap volume pedal.
Yeah, it's because I want the reverb effect to distort as it's another effect than just having reverb on a distorted guitar. Just try it and you'll see. Maybe you like it. :)

Great video. For my shoegaze sound I use Vox Delaylab, EHX Catherdral Reverb, Soul Food and Boss CE5 chorus - this gives more of a Lush shoegaze sound.

If I want to throw in a hint of Flange, then it's the Boss BF-2. I currently use a Tele for guitar but will get a a Jaguar at some point. SHOEGAZER yeah dude, it’s really good. I really enjoyed it! Also your voice and guitar tone compliment each other quite nicely.
I have the digiverb, and I notice that when I put it at the end, the guitar output is kind of low when I set the reverb level to max.
Slick production, cool track
Sockgaze you mean

much shoegazer. proud
that really works! i just plugged my EHX Holy Stain (set to Hall Reverb with no dirt) into my little big muff pi and got the same result. fascinating!
“How to reduce Kevin Shields’ oversized rig to a size that makes sense”

I feel like a lot of people think shoegaze is pay to win when it really isn’t
the key is the reverse reverb, with it you can make everything you play very shoegazing-sounding

Astrobrite. check out their album PINKYSHINYULTRABLAST on bandcamp. Also a pretty known shoegaze band named their project after that album.

It quite works, I mentioned today. But I get alot of feedback when I use these 2 reverbs in combination with my twin reverb settings on my amp.
holy shit thats Loveless right there!
I wonder if this fuzz cuts lows or highs from the mixed clean signal?
I have this problem with Walrus Audio Janus, the mixed signal sounds really poor
It cuts a bit of the lows, but by turing the blend knob more in the clean direction it comes back.
