  • @MrMeiryou
    @MrMeiryou 8 лет назад +4

    If you want some weird sounds making use of the fuzz grain, you should use the reverb ath the end of your pedal line. Before you'd be best with an Echo pedal. Or a delay with pitch modulation. What you're doing there with the reverse reverb is making you lose control on the sound you produce. Your fuzz likes compressed short bandwidth and you're flooding it with lots of noises putting the reverb before. I also suggest using a compressor first. Adding all this may be against the low cost you're looking for, so You can take the reverb out, use a little analog echo and that's it. And replace the tuner by a little yellow comp, it's cheap and does miracles for cheap setups.

      Cool. Sounds interesting. Thank you. But I like the sound very much.

    I'm one of the originals - I was there the first time around in the UK in the late-80s, early-90s.
    Want some real old-fogey advice?
    Use ear-plugs. This style of music will catch up with you in your 40s - you'll go deaf; you'll get tinnitus. If I could go back in time, I would absolutely wear ear-plugs, every time.
    Good on you re: the low-budget thing by the way :) - the culture that this music came out of didn't have a lot of money. We were all on the dole, mostly living in squats. The best music usually comes from people who live on the fringes.

    • @berlinshoegazer
      @berlinshoegazer  8 лет назад +3

      Hey Nick, thank you so much for your words. Of course we use ear plugs in the practice room. One time I lost a pair ... that was really no joy. I like it to become creative with having no money. Effects are not the world to do something awesome. In the end it's more about what's coming out of your mind and what the the situation incidentally brings up.

    • @TheRealSlickRick63
      @TheRealSlickRick63 8 лет назад

      Hey. right on, Nick.
      Did you ever see any of the Manchester bands like The Smiths or The Stone Roses? Or some of the Rough Trade bands like The Libertines and whatnot? That seems like it must have been an interesting scene. I'm a Seattle naive so I was practically in the epicenter when the ''grunge" phenomenon vomited plaid flannel and Doc Martens all over the place. I saw all those bands in teeny tiny shit hole clubs many times.

    What’s well worth mentioning is J Spaceman uses a telecaster thinline. It’s a semi-hollow tele with twangy humbucker. I’m sure u can find the Squier or Mexican versions on Reverb for cheap . Spaceman is of course behind Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized, while not strictly shoegaze, certainly provided a template for heaps of shoegazy bands.

    Hold up that's a solid state Fender Princeton amp from the early 90's. Terrible drive channel but the clean could rival any tube amp I've ever heard. Plus loud as hell, i still use mine!

      Yeah. It's perfect for the flat or for first band projects. But could be a bit warmer in the highs.

    i just have 2 reverbs (a mooer shimverb and a biyang tri reverb), a crybaby wah (but that one is not quite appropriate in the mix), an overdrive (better not use this i think) and a echobrain delay by tc electronics. It quite works, I mentioned today. But I get alot of feedback when I use these 2 reverbs in combination with my twin reverb settings on my amp.

    I wonder if this fuzz cuts lows or highs from the mixed clean signal?
    I have this problem with Walrus Audio Janus, the mixed signal sounds really poor

      It cuts a bit of the lows, but by turing the blend knob more in the clean direction it comes back.

    Nice video series you've got going. For my Shoegaze/Dream Pop rig, I have a Rat Pro Co and a Deluxe Big Muff Pi for distortion, Boss RV-6, EHX Cathedral, Digitech Digiverb, Earthquaker Afterneath, EHX Canyon, Digitech Obscura, Boss Terra Echo for time based effects and if I want compression, DOD Milk Box. If I want to throw in a hint of Flange, then it's the Boss BF-2. I currently use a Tele for guitar but will get a a Jaguar at some point. So far liking the price and sound of the Squire you used in the video.

    why reverb before distortion?

    • @wezzlyn
      @wezzlyn 7 лет назад +7

      C B It distorts your reverb trails, rather than if you put the reverb last in the chain like you traditionally would, which would give reverb trails to your distortion.
