    I'm one of the originals - I was there the first time around in the UK in the late-80s, early-90s.
    Want some real old-fogey advice?
    Use ear-plugs. This style of music will catch up with you in your 40s - you'll go deaf; you'll get tinnitus. If I could go back in time, I would absolutely wear ear-plugs, every time.
    Good on you re: the low-budget thing by the way :) - the culture that this music came out of didn't have a lot of money. We were all on the dole, mostly living in squats. The best music usually comes from people who live on the fringes.

    • @berlinshoegazer
      @berlinshoegazer  7 лет назад +3

      Hey Nick, thank you so much for your words. Of course we use ear plugs in the practice room. One time I lost a pair ... that was really no joy. I like it to become creative with having no money. Effects are not the world to do something awesome. In the end it's more about what's coming out of your mind and what the the situation incidentally brings up.

    • @TheRealSlickRick63
      @TheRealSlickRick63 7 лет назад

      Hey. right on, Nick.
      Did you ever see any of the Manchester bands like The Smiths or The Stone Roses? Or some of the Rough Trade bands like The Libertines and whatnot? That seems like it must have been an interesting scene. I'm a Seattle naive so I was practically in the epicenter when the ''grunge" phenomenon vomited plaid flannel and Doc Martens all over the place. I saw all those bands in teeny tiny shit hole clubs many times.

    Hey Kenneth, love your videos, they're super useful and I hope you upload more soon!
    My old Marshall combo amp finally gave up on me today after about 15 years, so I'm just wondering if you have any other recommendations for amps? Here in Sweden, the cheapest Fender Princeton I can find is about 1000 Euros and I'm not sure I have that kind of budget.
    Do you have any experience with the Fender Champion 100? That one is decently priced here (about 280 Euros) and according to reviews seems to have a good clean sound. (I have too many fuzz pedals so I'm not sure I need the dirt channel to be very good anyway.)
    Keep up the good work!

      Althought I only payed 200 bugs for it, the Fender Princeton 112 plus is not my recommondation here. I got it coincidental once and just using it still. I just needed an amp at home to record my electronic guitar stuff. What i wanna say is.. it doesn't matter which amp you use, ... it's all still a question of taste. Even a no-name amp for 50 bugs can offer a great sound for shoegaze. I would look after a simple 180-300 bugs home amp by marshall, fender or vox. These 3 brands are mainly used by shoegaze guitar players. I like Fender amps the most. They have the best trebles and not too muddy mids in their clean sounds like amps by Vox have. After my experience. If you need something warm an fat go with Marshall. Hope that helps. :)

      Thanks for the reply. After doing some research I found that what got me confused was that Fender recycle their product names in creative ways, so the Fender Princeton amps I found are very different from the Princeton 112 Plus.
      I have been relatively happy with my Marshall amp, it's worked pretty well for the kind of Jesus & Mary Chain wall of sound that I like, but I am curious about Fender amps for sure.

    Nice one, thanks for sharing!
    I've noticed that you're using a Joyo JP-02 power supply. Are they any good? No hiss/noise coming from the black box? I've read both very good and awful comments about it. Thanks again!

      I have never had any problem with noise sounds or hisses.. it's not that expansive. I would recommend: Give it a try in any music store and take your pedals with.

    How on earth do you play X50220? I have extra large hands, and still find it very hard. I have my pinky on the A string on the fifth fret and am trying desperately to barre the G and B strings with my first finger which I can do, but then the high E string isn't sounding.

      Well first off, you can eliminate the one of the doubles notes, try XX0220 or X5X220

    • @berlinshoegazer
      @berlinshoegazer  7 лет назад +1

      hahaha. so sorry. I guess I played the last two chords 222 in from the G string on. will edit this. so also grab the second fret on the high E string. I do it with the pointer on G, B and E at the same time.

    What’s well worth mentioning is J Spaceman uses a telecaster thinline. It’s a semi-hollow tele with twangy humbucker. I’m sure u can find the Squier or Mexican versions on Reverb for cheap . Spaceman is of course behind Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized, while not strictly shoegaze, certainly provided a template for heaps of shoegazy bands.

    why reverb before distortion?

    • @wezzlyn
      @wezzlyn 6 лет назад +7

      C B It distorts your reverb trails, rather than if you put the reverb last in the chain like you traditionally would, which would give reverb trails to your distortion.
