This is the first non nintendo or rockstar game I've seen achieve a 97 on metacritic in over a decade. I saw the high reviews coming but never expected this. I can't wait to play this masterpiece.
Disco Elysium, and it is well-deserved.
and most Rockstar games don't even deserve It imo , most overrated major dev of the last 10 or 15 years.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 I agree
@@fawkkyutuu8851 nah Red Dead 2 deserved the praise it received. GTA 5, on the other hand, was very overrated and every GTA game that came out before was much better than 5, especially 4.
@@marshallbeck9101 I like the story of red dead, but the gameplay is basic and doing everything feels like a chore since it tries so hard to be realistic
A 10 and its a review in progress.... so maybe the first game to be 20/10
And people might still complain that it's not a 10... 😂
to me isnt a 10
Back In 2004 HL2 was actually given 11/10 by some PC magazine I think.
@robert walters and your point is? Lol
@robert walters And u are a child
Multiple outlets are calling this game a “masterpiece.” Well done FromSoftware!
Those outlets are always paid to say that
They practically hand out 10s if a game has fromsoftware mentioned anywhere near it

I haven’t been this hyped for a game in a long time, i had some serious fun beating and playing demons souls on the ps5 and even a lot for bloodborne and ds3 years back and was there for the midnight release for Sekiro but this is next level idk if i could be any more hyped 💀

This happens every FromSoft release, some call it way harder, some say it's way easier. Fighting Cowboy says it's way easier, you say it's way harder. IGN says it's way harder, SkillUp says it's way easier.
It’s about the same as Dark Souls 3, but easier than Sekiro
When there isn't one exact way to play (see Sekiro) difficulty will change drastically. For example, the Dark Souls games are much easier when you use magic builds vs a no shield build. You can typically make most soulsborne games as hard or easy as you want.
@@尹梓龙 thats the thing - the difficulty is very personal. Sekiro was the first fromSoft game I actually finished, I find it the easiest for me.
@@mx2000 it was the same for me, sekiro was easy for me, I beat many difficult bosses on my first try, on the other hand I suffered a lot on dark souls 1, I lost the count on how many times I died with orstein and smoug.
@Dan the Axolotl He mentions that the game was much easier as a whole than other games, but that's just h is experience.
I'm so glad that people seem to finally be getting sick of the handholding map marker ridden open world games. BOTW and now Elden ring are showing that people want a return to games that respect the player and encourage their curiosity.
Morrowind is my favourite game of all time, but i'm starting to think elden ring might finally be the game to usurp it.
ds3 reference?????
@Michael Lochlann I'm the same. That's how i feel about media or entertainment in general.
It's rare for me to have zero hype for a game when announced an then be entirely invested by the time the game launches. Elden Ring has done that to me - I can't imagine being more excited to rage at a game. One more day (and hopefully I'll be playing it on the new Steam Deck, soon, too)
What is steam deck?
@@naor9792 A new handheld console from steam where you can play steam pc games on it.
Same here. Literally hadn't heard of it until today and already have it pre-loaded on Steam ready to go :)
SAME! Never played a From game before didn’t hear about this game until 3 days before release decided to give it a go and I could not be more addicted. It’s consuming my life. Lol
I just re-watched this review after a long time and it's honestly one of the best reviews for this game I've seen.
Just the fact that this is a true open world style has my attention. And the creator of GOT has his influence in the game is awesome. This is my first From game I'm excited to get my A** handed to me
Welcome!
Just never give up.
Welcome fellow tarnished
Good luck! It will test your patience but it’s so much fun and so satisfying beating these challenges
I just pre-ordered my copy, it's official. So stoked 😬
Yes we promoted Demon’s Souls JP import back in 2009 as nobody knew about this amazing game in the US 😉and now we have Elden Ring their masterpiece thanks Fromsoftware !!
I always knew Demon’s Souls was something very unique at the time… watched all the trailers before release and Atlus finally being able to properly launch it in the west. Bought the steelbook edition and became From’s biggest fan from the very moment I played it. Hope Elden Ring truly shatters my expectations.
Deep into that darkness peering, long he stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. Each Warrior wants to leave the mark of his will, his signature, on important acts he touches. This is not the voice of ego but of the human spirit, rising up and declaring that it has something to contribute to the solution of the hardest problems, no matter how vexing! 🗡 Welcome to elden ring world ⚔
I've never played a From Software title. I had always heard about Dark Souls but never really gave it a try. I'm completely hooked. So much so, that when I play Horizon Forbidden West now, it feels completely pointless and to be honest, dated. The graphics are amazing and everything, the world they built is top notch. But at the end of the day, Elden Ring has completely changed the open world game to the point that games like Horizon, Assassins Creed, Far Cry etc. just feels like labor. The generic stories, million map markers, mediocre side quests and repetitively easy combat. It's actually sad, I feel bad for game studios who are still making, or are in the middle of making tired same open world format games. I think what Elden Ring nails is the fact that they don't have different difficulty settings. It is what it is and you don't complain and whine, you just deal with it. It's actually better to put a limit on players vs hand them everything.
Yes exactly, well put.
amen brother
lol I prefer horizons story 10 times over Elden rings. The story in Elden ring is dull. I love the game but it’s far from perfect. Prefer game like Baldurs Gate 3
It looks so gorgeous. I'll get lost in the exploration until I ended up in a place I had business venturing into and see "You Died" come up on my screen.
The textures are very poor even on the high end consoles. Not sure how you can say it looks gorgeous.
@@DEVILTAZ35 because it is seems like one of the most stunning worlds ever created in gaming. The art style is sublime
@Neutral Frere and what did I say? I didn't say this was great graphic quality. But my point still stands. This is beautiful to look at just for the art direction, which is something that, unlike the graphics, won't age a bit.
@Neutral Frere a person doesn't understand the difference between graphics and beauty.. Not surprised.
Wow. A “10/10” review from Gamespot for a game that actually deserves it? All jokes aside. You did a great job Hussain Bhai.
Imagine Zelda Breath of the Wild combined with Dark Souls = MASTERPIECE
2 ABSOLUTELY GOD TIER GAMES
No need to imagine that buddy
_Because of the lack of an in-game log/journal etc, I highly recommend you_ *keep an actual journal of the game.* Especially for when you put down the game for any period of time because there's a good chance you'll forget WTH you were doing.
Souls games are for souls fans, not for everyone, not for me. My interest is in other games.
But you gotta respect games that don't release broken and devs that stick with their original formula not trying to chase trends👍
thank you for the "Review In Progress". I'm watching yours, I watched Jeff Grubb's. I prefer it this way.
Imran said reviewers didn't have enough time, which is understandable/true, but I said they should do one of these, and they replied "post-embargo criticism doesn't do the numbers to justify spending work time on it". And that's the wrong answer.
The absolute last thing I'd want to hear about any game/review is that it was just work you were trying to get out the door.
They should have enough time. Ign spent 87 hours playing it
Tamoor is one my favorite Kinda Funny Best Friends. His points are very well thought out and always do a good job of getting the points across. Can't wait to play this game!
These games are so satisfying because the combat takes practice like riding a skateboard or playing an instrument. You aren’t just instantly good once you get the controls, like Assassins Creed. But, you feel yourself progressing. I remember first playing DS3 and dying to the tutorial boss over and over. After playing a long time though, you learn when to dodge based on the animations, you learn the sweet spots. So much fun. And the “class” system gives these games so much replay value because you are never in a box. No two builds/playthroughs will be the same.
Imagine Ubitsoft systematically killing the Open World Genre instead of improving on it after dozens of games, then FromSoftware raising it from the dead in one game.
I honestly just heard about this game a couple weeks ago (yes, I live under a rock) but since then I've already preordered it! So beyond hyped as this will be my first From game ever.
Good to hear you're jumping in for the first time! Remember that no matter how hard things seem, you can push through! I believe in you! :D
Good luck brother. You can do it!
@@Simon-fc9hg Thanks! I’ve always wanted to try a soulsborne game but never jumped in. Feels like I’m in one of their target demographics :D
Immaculate. My hype for this game has not diminished even a little bit for this game while waiting.
I've had the game for a week and a half already and about 70 hours in so far. I can honestly say, this is both the best souls game made, and one of the greatest games ever. It's a monumental release.
How come you got it early?
@@OllieGrigg Found a store that broke release date. 😬
When will this review in-progess ever be finished?
This is a very well written essay, props to ya
Thanks Tamoor for the detailed review ! Where other media houses havent uttered a word about story , atleast you managed to mention that it retains the story telling style of miyazaki. Also It is well detailed review about many aspects ! Thnaks !
You should look at IGN review. 10/10
Can not wait to play this!
For all of you complaining...it's not difficult it's old-school and actually respects the player and gives him credit that his clever enough to find out everything on his own
Don't you just love it when reviewers describe an experience, like encountering things you never expected, by giving you an exact spoiler-riffic example of something that completely ruins that unexpected encounter?
Man I've never felt like such an excited little boy in all my life, at least since I was a little boy.
Blazes....i havent seen reviews like these...ever..Every single outlet is calling this a MASTERPIECE

I’ve never played a souls game, but BOTW is possibly the best open world game I ever played. I might of pre ordered this off of FOMO, but I am pumped to play it.
Welcome
Ayyy, hope you'll have a good time!
How did you like it
horizon zero dawn will again be overshadowed by a masterpiece of a game released at the same time frame haha. happened with BOTW, will now happen with Elden Ring.
They did it to themselves by releasing it in the same month, or, maybe Fromsoft delayed the game by 1 month on purpose to have a laugh.
Horizon Isn't even In the running for GOTY anymore , that's between Elden Ring , BOTW2 , or possibly Starfield.
GOW Ragnarok loks like a very similar more casual AAA Sony sequel like Horizon so I doubt that will win either no matter how pretty It Is or what It does , the gameplay just probably won't be deep or fresh and ambitious enough , they'll play It safe.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 What's revolutionary about an open world Dark Souls? Elden Ring literally is a hodge podge of various From systems in an open Dark Souls map. I'm sure it'll be a good game, but, having watched about 20 videos on this game, I fail to see how it's a watershed moment in gaming. For Dark Souls, sure (I guess). For videogames at large, I guess I'll play it and see if I agree with that sentiment. One thing's for sure, the crazy reviews are generating a lot of views, clicks, and chatter.
@@dangerass1982 It's an evolution and refinement of the successful franchise.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 Gow Reganarok might get delayed too to 2023
I really was not hyped about this game. Sure, I was gonna get it eventually but eh, I could wait. Bit this review has really sparked what drew me to dark souls in the first place and I absolutely want to play this. The exploration and slow pace and challenging combat is just such a warm feeling for me. Thank you for making me spend money :P
But genuinely, really excellent review. Well done.
It's 10 no doubt
Only a FromSoft game can be compared to their Dark Souls series without sounding cheesy lol.
You’re really milking Elden Ring aren’t ya
Or it’s just a fantastic game troll.
The best game I have ever played.
Already ordering a new controller
😂
Whats up with the frame rate and pop ins?
only FROM SOFTWARE can make a chill go down your spine as gamer.
This is a review for Souls fans from a Souls fan. He is speaking our language. Majestic!
Is there a final review or still in progress?
Good review but the pulsating background music used in this review was pretty anxiety inducing and did not allow me to fully focus on the reviewers voice.
What made from SOFTWARE so special is how they CONSISTENTLY release FANTASTIC games Without the need to REMASTER or REMAKE a game like ROCKSTAR GAMES. We haven't got a game from ROCKSTAR since 2018, but FROM SOFTWARE last game was 2019 and we already got ELDENRING and ARMOURED CORE is AROUND the CORNER. There is no Doubt for me the BEST GAME STUDIO IS FROM SOFTWARE
You say Elden ring is much harder than any other game by fromsoft but haven't the devs said otherwise? A lot of content creators are also saying the same thing, that the game is much more accessible and easier to get into than past fromsoft games.
The dev said that more people would beat it, doesn’t mean that it would be easier tho
Think that’s because you have the option to walk away from fights more now
accessible doesnt mean easier
Accessible doesnt mean less difficult. The reason they said it was more accessible is because if you get stuck at a boss its not like in Dark Souls where you just have to keep trying over and over, instead you can just go somewhere else entirely, get new equipment, level up etc. and try again later.
Just means that the game actually explains itself, more people will beat the game because its less obtuse and actually explains its systems
Can a melee based built create all these beautiful magic tricks like summoning etc?
What happens when devs exceed the hype in every way- Elden Ring happens.
Performance is a bit disappointig on Next-Gen. Had a chance to play it on a RTX Pc last Night, Performance and Graphics are gorgeous.
You say this is the hardest from software game and skill up says its the easiest - im so confused, which is it??
Great review. The decision to empower the player to choose their own path, follow their own destiny is like Skyrim
It sounds good but is the main selling point the application to the Dark Souls formula to this denser open world? I am hoping for something really innovative after 3 games. But I suppose I will just have to experience this to really know.
It’s more of a culmination of 6 games Demons Souls, Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. Adding the sneaking and jumping mechanic from Sekiro is HUGE
Remember, things to be cautious about soulsgame as I have come to like it, little too much, is that it's either you love it too much or you hate it with your soul. There's no in between. I think those people that are curious, ready to learn and have patience are the type of people who will like this kind of game. I completely fell in love with souls games after playing ER. I finally realised why they are such a good game and people who love it LOVE it. It's not a casual game that you can just jump into it and enjoy. It need some kind of a click espicially in combats which are the core mechanics of soulsgames. So give it a chance if you are interested and if it click which will take few hours of gameplay and learning, you will get addicted to it. It's not all about dying multiple times. You can do it any game but the way you die is almost always your fault or you were careless. The game will hardly make you feel like the death was cheap. The game is definitely a 10/10 for me and it will remain my favourite game as my first souls game
Tamoor Hussain is a sick reviewer. Very informative and pleasing to listen to. Thank you sir.
2022 and no 21:9 support is a shame
I think it has to do with the physics being tied to frame rate and what not. i am sure that the Aspect ratio plays a part.
How can I make sure to have all the Tamoor Notifications enabled!? He’s a legend! All praise the Demolition Man!
im on my 2nd disc on the ps4 & both discs wont even load on my ps4 , they both just show up as "disc unrecognized",., all the rest of my ps4 discs play just fine ,.,. i just send it back & i'll wait for the price to drop on

what was that? I know they rarely drop rune arcs, but those are purple :/

Yep ! I would call it Dark "Ghost of Darksiders" Souls 4 !
No. It has enemies and some mechanics from dark souls, demons souls, bloodborne and sekiro. Plus more. So its more an open world of all the souls games combined. Not just dark souls

So far 3 10s and a 9.5 I never had any Doubt
This has nothing to do with the game, but I have to bring it up. To whomever edited/put this video together, please put a little effort into varying the background music. From 3:45 til 11:45, the exact same music is playing, which wouldn’t be an issue if it weren’t a piece that is just an endless 3 second loop. Once you notice this, you can’t focus on anything else. It’s incredibly annoying for an entire 8 minutes of your review.
You’re Gamespot, you need to do better with this kind of stuff.
Thanks, now I can't unhear it, lol

Very late but weapon mods lately. But honestly just use summons. They tone down the difficulty a bit by splitting aggro with you so you won't take days for a boss

Assuming Botw2 comes out this year, between Forbidden West, Botw 2, and Elden Ring this is going to be a real game awards contest at the end of the year. (Still think Elden will take it tho)
We will see, such an epic year for gaming, probably the best all time, remember starfield hits in November as well.
BOTW2 barely has a chance it's still a sequel. Starfield Is the only game I could see challenging Elden Ring but that's only If It's super ambitious and It's the best game Bethesda has ever made , with the least amount of day 1 flaws and jank. Is every npc a ghoul or an evil sorcerer??
Going to deeps of countless enemies for a mediocre reward would have deducted points for any game yet for a fromSoftware game is so brave and welcome. I have pre-ordered already but I hate the bias on reviews because of the publisher.
The rewards are not mediocre though. Many reviews praise precisely the fact that rewards are valuable and surprising
