- Simplified is a new series on PowerDrift that aims to make automotive concepts, technology and ideas as easy to understand as possible. These short videos take the questions you have and clear the air around the what, how, why and when. This time, we're talking about engine oil. They all look the same, but they all do not work the same! It's important to read the specification of the oil and make sure it's right for your machine! Shumi breaks it down for you.

Do another episode on tyres too
@@theman-to4jo coming soon!
@Anirudh katkar idea noted! Thank you!
Every other bike review I watch they go on talking about "fueling", like how it is good on this engine or its bad & bla bla bla... I don't understand a bit.
All I know is for most efficiency engine should run on stoichiometric ratio of air to fuel (14.7:1).
So, what exactly is bad fueling?? Is it the engine is running lean or rich?
I believe the factory settings would be perfect as no manufacturer will get it wrong since they do so much R&D.
Please educate me.😅
@@chinmayanand1960 idea noted! The short version is that 14.7:1 is the ideal ratio and engines try to stick close but don’t always. Economy, performance and emissions requirements influence the actual mixture selection.
Do one Video on different engine configuration. Like Inline 4 , Inline 3, Parallel twin, flat twin, V4, V2 and their impact on ride quality.
Good idea!
Read about internal combustion engines, it will give you all the answers you need because it's more than just the configuration of the piston and cylinder, you have to take into account all the moving parts from the crankshaft to the time and area of opening of the intake valve and exhaust valve. It'll probably take power drift more than one episode to explain the above in detail!
@Saloni Shetty Isn't the whole point of the "Simplified" series for us to not go and read about these complicated things? 😐
Its out today
They do listen
This is amazing! Simplified to the crux 👍
P.S: Next time you can also discuss on the unsaturated fats and cholesterol content in oils 😁
Ahahahahahahahahahaah! Done! 🤣
@The Sportztourer Your videos are much better.
😂
Boy after seeing your videos this video doesn't make sense
Are oil guru aap yaha
It's soo satisfying to hear shumi's Voice 😂
This man taught me more english than my english lecturer!!
Please simplify the issue of spark plugs, iridium vs normal, and also the topic of brake fluid too.
Idea noted! Thanks!
Generally this is manufacturer specified, and I haven’t seen any performance improvement with a same-spec iridium or platinum spark plug. But they last longer. 100,000km vs 20,000km
Am I the only one to notice that the caption is HILLARIOUS!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
" Get your beloved the right oil!"
PD vids never disappoints.🤘🤘
I would like to see a video on a basic service which we need to do and most of the people do on street garage or mechanics and what all we need to take care of.
If you want to DIY service, simply look at your owner's manual, there will be components to change according to kms driven, generally street garage change engine oil, clean spark, clean or replace air filter, clean drum brakes, brake pad, and replace if any part is bad
Simple and clear explanation.. this is what sets @shumi apart from all others
Thanks!
Thank You PD & Shumi ! Keep Bringing Such Genre of Informative Videos ❤️
Cheers! Would you share this with your friends? It would really help us!
Can't miss Prof. Shumi's lectures.
Ahahahahahahaha! Full marks!
"Power and Torque" in your words would make a great deal and certainly be "simplified".
Short, simple, informative ..way to go PD army. 🏍️
Lucid and to the point explanation....Shumi...👏
This series is such a good idea! Kudos to the team and obviously to Professor Shumi! 🎉 🥳
Show us how to adjust chain slack! Most service centres are not doing it right and it causes damage to the transmission /drive lash.
Idea noted! Thanks!
The way he simply explained viscosity with the water and honey example. Shumi would have been a great teacher if not a journalist!
Was waiting for synthetic vs mineral comparison until u said next episode 😁
Good explanation in simple way. Waiting for synthetic oil episode.
Thanks!
Everyone is first till they refresh 😉
First reply!
@@shu_mar ih ih😏😌
I'm absolutely loving this series, keep going PD ❤️
Outstanding as always .. too lucid demonstration ..hats off
i would love to watch Shumi sir explaining the complex topic but ofcourse in a "simplified" manner...
as soon as you told "in the next episode", I was like dang it 😅
Nevertheless, thank you for sharing these details in such a simplified way!
Ahahahahahaha! Gotcha! Thanks!
@@shu_mar still waiting for synthetic vs semi vs nrml oil video
Please do provide us with a video about the cooling systems in motorcycle engines. Like air cooling, air-oiled cooling etc. Thank you in advance.
That was awesome sir. &
I would love to hear you on the combination of torque, Bhp and and size (cc). How different combinations affects the performance.
Much needed! Thank you so much PD!
Concept clearing was really nice.
1) Does brand really has an impact or any brand oil with same grade is good enough?
2) Next topic may be discussed in Simplified: Engine Flush(are they really important), CDI functioning, Basic Bike maintenance simplified
2/ thanks for the ideas!
1/ they do. The Putoline EsterTec for example, made my KTM run a bit smoother. But the key thing is “a bit”. It’s not something I’d spend a lot of effort or money to achieve.
The thing to remember is even after right grade, the oils perform different.
Like less vibes with a different company whereas better mileage with the other one.
Yes. But in my experience, the difference is not so significant that this needs to be debated hotly or a lot of effort needs to go into finding ‘the best oil’
@@shu_mar yes exactly, it needs to be researched alot but some youtubers like the sportztourer makes videos on these subjects.
@@ParthRastogi Exactly. My point is that the amount of money/time I’d spend researching this? I’d rather ve out riding the bike instead 😁
@@shu_mar or maybe buy another one 😆
sumi's voice is just pure bliss
How to choose aftermarket brake pads? Which are recommended .
Do we need to strictly adhere to time-based oil change intervals as opposed to distance based ones? If for example one of my motorcycles (or for that matter cars) has not run much in a year, due to say, work from home for over a year, do I really need to change the oil? Does oil "go bad" over time while sitting inside the oil sump, unused? Of course the service center pushes for timely service, coz they want their revenues flowing. What does the data say though? If the oil on the dipstick looks and feels okay, it should be okay, right? Or am I missing something?
Would love to see you answer this in one of your future videos.
Absolutely love your work. Cheers!
Can you give information about ester blends in oils ? Appreciate the content great work 👍
In the synthetic vs. mineral oil duscussion, please throw some light on the following points:
1. What is engine flushing?
2. Need for carrying it out.
3. Is it recommended for high mileage engines?
Thanks.
Yes do about engine types
+
Consider an oil grade ,say 15w35
U can always increase the 35 to 40 as well as decrease the 15 to 10
But never decrease from 35 or increase from 15.
Great series and a good video, although I disagree on some points about oil grade.
I tend to run a slightly thicker oil than recommended if you don’t have variable lift valves or hydraulically actuated injector pumps. Generally thin oil is specified to meet emission & fuel economy numbers, and I’ve seen same models recommended different oils in different countries with the same climate - eg. Nissan Navara in Australia vs NZ.
Also thin oil circulates quicker at cold starts and purges cam phasers, turbo lube, etc. If you let your engine warm up for 30 seconds before you move and get to operating temperature before you trash it (like you should), you’ll get away with using a slightly more viscous oil which will lubricant better.
Nice video, thanks 😊👍
Have a q: In india we have temp easily crossing 40c. But why a manufacturer for ex. for TVS Apache, recommends a 10W30 grade? Shouldn't it be 10W50 or something??
Yes my honda hornet recommended grade is 10w30 but i put in motul fully synthetic 10w40 or even one time i did put in 20w40 ..in summers its really good quite drastic change..but in winter it takes time to lubricate engine parts.
10w 50 is right for most parts of india according to climate.
A video on Compression ratios pleaseee
I agree to what Shumi sir says. But I feel for my dominar the Motul engine made a lot of difference than the conventional TOTAL engine oil which Bajaj used
A good informative video. Waiting for a detailed video on mineral, synthetic based & fully synthetic oils.
Soon! Thanks for watching
Shumi is that teacher we didn't get in school
Shumi is that teacher, not the teacher we deserved, but the teacher we needed 😂❤🙊✌🏼
Sir I think one topic we should discuss about are turbo chargers. Are they good or bad for cars??? How to take good care of a turbo chargers in the car???? What are do's and do not's???Are they really needed in today's age???? It can be a two part series, if you want it to be.
Thank you Sir.. Very well explained 👍 Cheers!
Very informative! Please speak about different tyre types and how to best choose ur tyre.
Didn't expect a video on this topic.. however it was useful.. 👍
Difference is very huge when you upgrade to synthetic oil
so if u cant find any engine oil while stuck on road then can coconut oil other vegetable oil be used?
Japani oil can also be used

Is tyre upsizing really worth it? or is it more harm than good? That's what I'd like to know.
Heyy team, just a suggestion- keep the background music a bit low...it's a bit over powering thanks
Nice....we need this kind of information 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you made a video on this topic
I would really like to know the difference between engine braking and rev matching and if there's any advantage in rev matching... As always, the videos are awesome ❤️

Slipper clutch & quick shifter as a topic. I see these two specs percolating to mass motorbikes.
The only issue with this video is “the suppressed sound”🤪. Need to increase device volumes upto 60-70% to just hear it properly.

Viscosity may not be inversely proportional to Velocity ©
Hey Shumi! This is really very Informative👍👍👍👍👍. Well I have a doubt that which type of engine oil should be used in high performance cars like Chevrolet Cruze is it fully synthetic engine oil or semi-synthetic engine oil and which mark it should be whether it is 5w30 or 5w40?

When it comes to Bajaj Dominar the stock engine oil is actually pretty bad. Can you do a video on this
Bajaj oils always suck..
Next episode:Types of engines(V,inline,Dohc...) please focus on power delivery, sound etc
My Karizma zmr runs vibration free when i upgraded it from 10w 30 to 20w 50, should i return back to normal??
Just get whatever is written on the manual. The brand of the oil really doesn't matter.
If you are going to beat the thing on the racetrack all the time in the summer then obviously you'll have to use a different grade.
@PowerDrift please clear me out that what if i change from Motul 10W50 Fully Synthetic to LIQUI MOLY 10W50 Full Synthetic will this make any changes to Engine health or any warrenty cause issue?
