- Between 2006 and 2011, a high-stakes negotiated prisoner exchange took place between Israel and Hamas, the group that governs the Gaza Strip. During that time, the two sides did not have any direct contact, so mediators from Egypt, Germany and Ireland were involved. At stake were the terms of exchange between one captured Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, and a large number of Palestinian prisoners.
This film goes behind the scenes of that remarkable five-year operation. Al Jazeera Arabic reporter Tamer Almisshal and his team secured access to those at the centre of the complex negotiations, including a rare interview with senior Hamas leader Marwan Issa as well as former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
It is a story of deadlines, brinksmanship, intelligence and ultimately of deal-making: in exchange for the release of Shalit, Israel released 1,027 Palestinian prisoners. In early 2021, Hamas claimed to hold a further four Israeli prisoners, captured in the 2014 war. While Israel disputed their full claim, it raised the question of whether a new round of prisoner exchange negotiations may be on the cards for these two sworn enemies.

Hamas the reason Israel is bombing you. You are in every right to criticize and oppose Israel, but if you send 300 rockets in one single day then you should expect them firing back.

The occupation is a direct result of the Arab refusal to coexist along a jewish state in any form even before Israel was re-established. The occupation only started gradually since 1967 after the second major war between all neighbouring arab armies and Israel in a publicly declared attempt to destroy it. The occupation was a direct result of the arab's unwillingness to negotiate a solution, so untill they do, things are kept in this horrible "interim" state of occupation. If you want peace, you'll get peace. If you choose war, you will suffer the consequences.

For sure the resistance is long, years and years, but I don't see any solutions in sight other than climate change. Some scientists say some parts of North Africa and Middle East could be too hot a place to live as human. We just saw the heat dome in USA and Canada, like 115/ 46 degrees and even hotter a few places. Imagine Jerusalem in summer with like 50 degrees hot, you would have to live underground. Maybe the Hamas tunnels in Gaza will come to good use too, hope they have air conditioning and light to live 2 million people there .

If I was a member of the Israeli army and faced capture by Hamas I would seriously consider ending it rather than face whatever brutality they might have in store for me.

If Israel is to free palestine, that will mean Israel will need to bring lands back, open borders and trades with palestine and that doesn't include a palestinian autonomous army.
