You are killing it with the new (and old) content! 🙌🏻 Cheat days are very necessary for the regular everyday person. I personally believe an occasional cheat day will prevent binge eating. Thank you for the great content! 😁
As someone who is currently working on a having a healthier relationship with food I needed to hear this video. Also, one of the reasons I really love your channel and hearing your advice/opinions on food is that you aren't a "fitness" influencer or something. It is so much more relatable coming from a normal person like yourself!!
I think I gained 5 lbs watching this video! Seriously, perfect timing as I have been on track all week and Friday is my family/food day. Homemade pizza and some wings for my OMAD. Low carb rest of week No guilt, no shame! Usually fast until Sunday afternoon after dinner Friday night. Spiritual and physical benefits. Find what works for you to have consistent, steady results.
I wanna thank you so much for these videos. Prior to finding your channel and coming across your shorts, I thought intermittent fasting wasn’t a good thing (because I thought people believed the scam that fasting alone will make you lose weight). You’ve proven me otherwise, my friend! You’re very educated on nutrition and your progress is so incredible that I decided to try it myself! I’ve been enjoying it and noticing I think about food a lot less than I did before (I’m a powerlifter). Appreciate it man!
Awesome video. The guilt is always difficult but since I’ve started 20:4 fasting I feel like I can enjoy a wider range of foods and not worry about it so much. Love your content and please keep it coming !
Ryan , thank you for sharing your experience/relationship with food. I myself have a horrible relationship with food but I'm learnig to be more kind with myself and working on the guilt . IF has helped me a lot and I'm slowly improving my relationship with food. You are so freaking cool and relatable thats why we appreciate you.
Sending support from KY! As a reasonably fit young person I honestly have no reason to watch your videos but I’m inspired by your dedication and consistency! 👏👏Most importantly, your willingness to forgive yourself and not allow guilt to take over (a personal struggle).
I’ve really enjoyed your videos, I myself have struggled with my relationship with food. I’ve lost weight, gained it back, lost it again - hence a vicious cycle. I appreciate your “progress not perfection” mentality in these videos. My wife and I have started daily fasting to help and it’s definitely helping. Thanks for the insights!
Thanks man I appreciate that! I’m glad to hear you have started fasting… I know what you mean about gaining it losing it and getting it again… I’ve lost the same 40-60 pounds more times than I can count. I don’t have the perfect answer yet but I think a long-term approaches helping… When I set the timeline on myself that usually hurts my progress because if I don’t hit it then I get down to myself
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective! I’ve never seen it discussed openly and so honestly from someone healing their relationship with food. I’m so grateful I found your channel. It’s so encouraging and insightful.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you found the channel as well… I enjoy sharing my journey and hope that it helps to motivate and encourage others along the way
This was so helpful for your mindset on food guilt. I’m on day 6 of an extended fast to cure a stomach issue. I’m breaking my fast today and this has really helped me! Thank you so much for this!!
I am very well thank you! The gut feels much better and off tablets. One more 5 day and I think the toxins will be gone! Breaking my fast after seeing your video made the breaking of the fast all the more relaxed and guilt free! Thank you so much for your documentation of your journey!!
I use to be the same way. Beat myself up over a cheat meal. One day won’t make or break you is something I had to learn. Eat it, enjoy it and move on. Thanks for the video man.
I like this guy a lot. He makes a good relationship with food. I've been practicing IF for 3yrs but it's hard to deprive yourself from food that your body is asking you to eat😄 Cheers from The Philippines 😉
Guilt is definitely something we attach to certain foods. You seem to have found that balance since the weight loss speaks for itself. Freedom is wonderful!! Thank you for your help.
Hey Ryan, first of all I want to say thank you for your service to our country! Appreciate you brother. Keep up the good work, you're doing great. Love the content
Even though I do not want to count calories, I love your videos where you count your calories! It just proves you can have your favorite foods and still be reaching your goals!!
Thank you so much! Yes I’ve heard that a few times… I need to make sure that I insert calories in some of these videos so let people know that it’s not just a free for all… I am thinking about my overall calories
We all need cheat days every now and again. It’s so refreshing seeing someone who has a real cheat day, not one that looks like my healthy days 😂 like baked oatmeal is good but it is also healthy I don’t want that as my “cheat”. Love your content
Hey brother- just wanted to say keep up the good work. All the haters that say toxic things never seem to comment on how happy you clearly are and seem to be a great dad and love your family 👪 ❤️- that counts for more. The people that dissect everything you do aren't very happy obviously amd want to project it on anyone they can- Hense why they waste their time trolling you when THEY could be putting their phones down and bettering themselves. Stay strong and again keep up the good work. Peace love and respect. 🙌❤🔥💯🙏✊️
Thank you so much man! That is so encouraging! Yeah I don’t listen to the haters… Actually enjoy making fun of some of their comments… I let it roll off my shoulder. Thanks again
Thanks so much I really love listening to you and watching what you ate on cheat day and I'm going to start watching what you eat on days that you don't cheat and I really love listening to you keep up the good work you really are helping me and you help me make me feel better so thank you so much and keep up the good work
Dude so spot on and similar to my journey. I was 187 lbs back in 2006 at 5'5. Lost 50 lbs and kept it off for 7 years. However, that was through intense focus on my diet and caloric intake. It was fun doing half marathons, being able to do 10 pull ups etc. However, one day I realized man this is so much work and I'm not enjoying social settings. I'd find myself binge eating and then feeling guilty. Eventually, I got an injury and let myself go. I ballooned up to 199. Eight weeks ago when I saw the 199 I was like enough is enough. I knew I didn't want the intense dietary restrictions like before , but had to have a better balance. IF so far has been absolutely awesome. It seems very maintainable, vs yoyo dieting. I'm down 16 pounds, and can enjoy food again. Thanks for posting this !!!
Great video, thanks for sharing your journey so transparently. Cheesecake, burgers, fries and all of these high fat foods I used to eat as well and my weight did yoyo for the longest time. Until I started eating large amounts of sweet fruit like bananas, dates, mangos, tangerines, pineapple with rice, corn, potatoes for complex carbs then the weight stayed off. I highly recommend getting some more fruit in. Good luck on your journey!
Fellow Jacksonville resident here! Very much inspired by you. I've lost 12 in 10 days intermittent fasting. Thank you and yes my brother, whataburger is the best. Sweet and spicy bacon burger!!
I really just wanna say thank you for this video. It helped me so so much! I'm currently trying to start intermittent fasting to lose weight and I do have a problem with feeling guilty if I eat something I personally think I shouldn't have ate or if I ate too much. But this video actually helped me so much. It taught me that it's ok to enjoy foods you love because you should treat yourself once in awhile :) So, thank you!!
Great video on allowing yourself any food you want. No foods are off limits. You could’ve also mentioned in the video that it comes down to weekly calories in vs calories out with. You can fit a cheat day/meal on a cut every week and still lose weight. If you’re still in a weekly deficit there’s no way you can feel any guilt and still enjoy the foods you love in moderation:)👌
Absolutely… And that is a great point… It’s not about daily calories tall about overtime… You can have indulgences as long as you are good to the rest of the week
This was a great video, thanks for being willing to share your story and give tips to help other people on their journeys. And, you have a good taste in food.
I’ve been doing intermediate fasting for about 3 months now before finding your RUclips. Even tho I had already started, your videos have helped me stay on track and focused. I would beat myself up for breaking my fast before my set time or eating a meal I “shouldn’t” but the important thing is getting back on track after and realizing that meal isn’t the end all be all, like you said “it’s simply just that. A meal you enjoyed” and you move on. I didn’t take my start weight as I didn’t want to be so focused on a number. But I am currently down to 235,if I had to guess where I was at when I started,I was pushing 270-275. But I’m glad I didn’t allow myself to get so caught up in numbers as opposed to judging my progress on how I’m feeling and how clothes are fitting as well. 1 question I did have for you tho, whenever you’re in the middle of your fasting window and you just have a strong craving just for food in general,do you just push thru it some light snacks? If I feel it struggling during my fasting hours,I typically just grab a cup full of pistachios or couple spoonfuls of crunchy peanut butter.
Great video once again Ryan , I never realised you are a vet I like you even more now brother 😂👌 I'm an ex British infantryman was in the army around the same Time as you it seems , love from across the pond mate 👍
This is awesome! I just discovered this channel and I am inspired to try again. I lost 10kg last year on OMAD, but I have gained them again and more haha I will be starting my diet again next month and I will for sure be keeping up with your vids. also, sidenote you have such pretty eyes!
I've been fasting so far 4 days , 26 days to go for my first cheat day. Then go back to fasting. I had headache on the 2nd and 3rd day but today I feel good.
@@Ryan_Johnson currently waiting for my car to be done getting washed so I can break my 23-hr fast, a burger sounds great after watching this video. In-N-Out may give Whataburger a run for their money, slight Cali-Biased lol
Sadly they don’t have any whataburger in Southern California. But I have seen quite a few in Phoenix Arizona. So the next time I’m out there I’ll have to try one of their burgers for sure! Lol
Great video life's all about balance between fitness, enjoyment, and family. Can't stress over the importance of cheat meals and they have many benefit when used strategically. Even when I plan on doing my bodybuilding contest prep we plan on adding in cheat meals. I would also advise a cheat meal rather than an entire cheat day.
I've been struggling with eating disorders for years. I'm in recovery now. Restaurants are still different. I'm going to try your trick in the parking lot
whats up ryan somehow i started watching your clips you seem like a good dude im a bit older than you im 55 and try eating healthy as possible and i exercise so my one piece of advice would be try to ease up on the meats a bit other than that good luck on your journey
I love whataburger too man lol 😅 in tx we have one in every neighborhood it seems lol 😅 try it with the buns toasted, their creamy pepper sauce with mustard and then add ketchup and grilled onions and jalapeños, no cheese, that's my go to right now!! It's so good!!
Hey Ryan, I know you’re not an expert and you’re doing this journey just like any of us are but I did have a question. I’ve done intermittent fasting before and had success. I only needed to lose about 10 pounds and I was able to do that and keep it off for about a year. I’m trying to restart intermittent fasting and have been doing it for the last two weeks since discovering your videos. So far I haven’t had much success, in fact I’ve actually gained about a pound and a half. Do you have any recommendations of how to kickstart intermittent fasting or help the weight loss start? Thanks I appreciate your help!
I would say this man honestly remember we got to take a long-term approach start with Just Fasting for the next three weeks… Once you’ve done it for a month then you can start to make adjustments… And I would say you want to look at adjusting one of two things. First you can maybe look at changing your fasting times… So if you were doing 16… Maybe try 18… Or if you don’t want to adjust your fasting times just start to make one healthy substitute a day when it comes to food choices
Got any tips for weight loss? Im 14 240lbs i know its alot. Im gaining weight because when im bored i eat and when my dad left i ate for comfort. Got any tip?
I jump right back into my regular schedule… For example after this day I think I did like 18 hours. Every once in a while if I plan on having a Cheat day, I may do a long fast leading into it 24 hours

Great channel! How often do you have cheat days?

Hi Ryan. Do you have any tips on avoiding bloat and just feeling crappy after cheat meal days?
How do you think you would handle something like a 10k calorie challenge? is it pushing it to much towards that guilt ?
First!
Love it!!! Way to go. Hope you enjoy the video!
How much weight gain you allow per month (gracious weight gain if any)

After a cheat day how long do you fast for?
I jump right back into my regular schedule… For example after this day I think I did like 18 hours. Every once in a while if I plan on having a Cheat day, I may do a long fast leading into it 24 hours
Sorry bro but whataburger is just aint it! I tried it in Arizona and In N Out has it outmatches by a long shot
lol. I've never had it. I'll put it on the list
Do you ever take a day off from intermittent fasting?
I would say on average it’s probably about once every 10 days
