That’s a real invasion of privacy, you shouldn’t feel rude with the times. It’s never okay for people to come find where you live.

Girl, I cannot stress this enough -- you are not being rude by prioritizing your safety and the safety of your dog, loved ones, etc.

I think it’s so important that you addressed this. As open as you are about with your life, viewers need to remember there’s boundaries. That’s very inappropriate that someone would come to you and your families house. You should never be put in that situation and hope it doesn’t happen again

Usually what I say when I don’t feel comfortable with my dog meeting with other or I feel like he’s showing body language that he’s not interested is I pick him up or pull away and say to the owner “sorry he’s not good with other dogs” because the owner will think of it as you protecting their dog and shouldn’t get offended. I’ve definitely had scary experiences with other dogs so I’m selective with mine, using this phrase I’ve never had issues!

i’m so tired of having to watch you and other youtubers explain why y’all traveling when y’all travel just to avoid people’s negative comments 😒 at the end of the day you don’t have to explain and go into detail as much as you do cause your an adult and it’s your life and if you care about your safety (which it seems like you do) your gonna do what you need to do (while still living your everyday life) to keep you safe. i just hate the fact that all these non youtubers or people in general have something to say every time a youtubers leaves there house now . i appreciate the fact that you do take the time out to explain to your subscribers why you do what you do cause it shows that you care but just know that i feel as though you don’t have to do that every time you travel . love your channel btw 😌💕 .

Hey Gretchen! You definitely dont want to pick your dog up in an instance like that- it generally makes the situation worse as the other dog can see that as threatening since Brody would be above the other dog, which could cause it to jump or lunge at it more. I took my dogs to training for over 3 years and the best thing to do is to communicate with the other owner. It’s important for Brody to have interactions with other dogs so that he doesnt react poorly to them in the future. I always learned to have Brody sit/lie down and then when it was okay to have him greet the other dog, do so for like 5 seconds and then pull back and continue doing that so that there isn’t too much stimulation. Hope that helps!

It’s definitely good to be selective of your puppy meeting other dogs! But it’s also important to make sure that he’s well socialized when he’s a puppy. I recommend taking him to puppy meet ups so he can play with dogs the same age as him! That way you don’t have to worry about potentially aggressive dogs and they can learn how to play together. My dog loved them so much when he was a puppy and definitely helped him learn how to interact with other dogs! 😊

Gretchen nothing is wrong with being anxious about seeing your subscribers and wanting to keep a distance. Everyone is handling this differently, and learning to create boundaries you’re comfortable with during this time is key. You are allowed to be anxious or nervous about going out, you are allowed to tell others to kindly keep there distance, and overall you’re allowed to feel how you do! 💕

I love you and your honesty so much!!!! A few doggie recommendations! First, don’t always let other people pet your dogs or other dogs approach your dog. Your dog will then learn that every person or dog is always allowed to say hi and it’s a bad habit for them to learn (we learned this the hard way with our dog). Try having him sit and stay before having someone or another dog approach him. Also don’t feel bad for saying no you can’t pet my dog! Try saying he’s in training, which is true and most people respect it!
Second, be careful having him get used to snoozing in the feet part of the passenger side of the car. I’m always fearful I’ll get in some type of accident and that’s not a super safe spot for him.
Again love you so much! These are just things I’ve learned with our doggie!

I probably wouldn't pick Brody up when you approach other dogs, just because dogs can tell when you are nervous and he shouldn't expect to be picked up every time you approach another dog or meet another dog. Assuming you will be introducing him to friends dogs and what not you don't want him to be nervous everytime he meets a new dog! I agree with the comment that saying your dog doesn't always get along with other dogs works, also a little passive aggressive but sometimes if there is a dog on the same side of the street I am walking on I will go to the other side of the street and that usually gets the message across!

I think the best way to do it is say “oh I don’t know how my dog is going to react” put it on your dog if you feel uncomfortable with the other dog getting too close so then it not like your blaming someone else’s dog. Works every time 😊 best of luck dogs are the absolute best!

My dog is 3 now, but he was definitely one of those crazy hyper dogs when he was a puppy - and a lot of the time adult dogs do not like puppies - so now that my dog is 3 he has become one of those dogs who is not always good with puppies. If you are near another dog and dog owner i would wait to approach and wait to let the dogs say hi casually before asking "is your dog good with puppies" - the owner should know how their dog will react with puppies and let you know either yes or no. Also even if other dogs are not being super friendly you still have control over Brody and can pick him up or pull him away if another dog begins to get aggressive!

I just rescued a puppy, so that obviously comes with its own obstacles because she is scared of so much still. But I 100% get that nervous feeling. On our walks depending upon the situation I have a few explanations ready to go: I sometimes use the pandemic and just say "Im trying to maintain distance from people and keep everyone safe" and just keep walking. Or like a lot of people have said I just explain shes a puppy and isnt always great with other dogs, and again depending upon the situation (for example both dogs seem calm) I will ask if they can meet calmly and slowly

Gretchen, your dog is your choice ❤️❤️ and your only priority should be doing what’s in Brody’s best and safest interest and you are not a bad person for doing that! Whatever makes you feel comfortable, listen to your gut :). Nobody is going to have to deal with the consequences except for you and your puppy if something goes bad so if you feel the need to pick him up and walk away totally do so! I think all dog-owners should understand completely if you choose to do so :)

Your worries about other dogs are so valid!! My dog was attacked back in May after another dog walked from its yard out on the street towards my dog and I. I thought the dog just wanted to play, but out of no where it attacked my dog. I'd say just try to keep Brody around dogs his own size, I'm sure other big dog owners will understand (especially if their dogs are barking at him). I learned to always carry pepper spray when I go on walks, it is better to be safe than sorry :(

  • @kyra3

I have a dog who is genuinely not friendly and people are still very persistent about petting her. I usually say are "my dog isn't friendly, please don't let your dog greet her" and if they continue to approach i'll pick her up. If someone is very persistent you could also say that Brody is sick with XYZ and that, 99% of the time, will get them to stay away. It's good to set boundaries for both you and Brody (and Max) to keep everyone safe- you don't have to feel bad about it!

    • @kyra3
      @kyra3 4 года назад

Also as an add on, you can start teaching Brody "behind" with the intention of him moving behind you and sitting. That way you can create some distance and be more in charge of the situation. It has really helped my pup and the physical action of having the dog move behind you and therefore out of sight of the other person/other dog(s) is tremendously helpful in getting the message across.
You can start by luring him behind you with treats and praising him, then progress it to him going behind you when you say behind (or whatever queue word you want) and having him sit- then praise. It would also be a good idea to work on sit stays. Just a handy trick to have when you're in a pinch and need some time to process!

I completely understand where you come from with your pup. To help with the situation is taking him to the dog park but if you feel that a dog is being too aggressive it is perfectly fine to pick Brody up but just be careful because you don’t want to teach him to be scared of other dogs. Sometimes bending down and petting the other dog if the owner says it’s fine helps him learn that other dogs are friends!!!

We have a 13 week old Goldendoodle and try watching Zak George and Rachel Fusaro videos! They both have a lot of good information and also if you have friends who have dogs you can meet up with them in a park or on "neutral ground" and that way he can get socialized in a smaller group of dogs at first. Then you can try pet stores, hardware stores, walks around parks, and I've been told to avoid dog parks because it can be very overwhelming and they can learn bad behaviors. We've only had our puppy around a couple dogs we 100% knew were vaccinated but once he can go out that is what we are going to do and you can bring treats to help train him to listen when he's stimulated with a lot of distractions!!

  • @CatherineLaurel

I get that with people petting Brody out of nowhere. Ever since I got my puppy a few months ago, whenever I bring him to the store or out on a walk with me, people will just come up and start petting him without asking first and I have no clue what to do or how to handle that.

  • @katiekorenek
    @katiekorenek 4 года назад +1

No how you feel is completely validated! First of all, if someone is a fan, it is never okay to go to your house if they don’t personally know you - like met you through social events.
As a dog owner, I’ve asked people to sanitize themselves before petting my dog and if they don’t have sanitizer and neither do I and I just say with the way things are right now, to play it safe I would prefer you not to since there’s no sanitizer. It’s not rude to ask that of someone because if anyone has pets and they know that that is respectful thing to do is to listen to the owner. As far as other people‘s dogs as the dog starts to some up to your dog is perfectly OK to pick him up, you can ask how they play with smaller puppies if their owner is nearby and if the owner isn’t nearby and they come up after you pick Brody up, then just say oh I didn’t know how your dog would react with puppies I’m just trying to keep my dog and your dog safe and anyone who owns a dog will highly respect that.

Also remember that your dog needs interactions with other dogs and will feed on your energy so if you’re nervous he will feel on edge too just be ready in intervene if things get out of hands but most dogs are voiceful when playing. If you heard my dogs playing ( a golden and a German Shepherd) you would think they were fighting but they’re simply rough housing and have never hurt each other.

stay safe that's crazy G, do I know where you're from? yes, we went to competing high schools, granted your a little younger than me. Rarely, would I even think to be like shes in line at trader joes, should I say hi, no, NOT EVER. I would never go find your house and knock on your door and like beg you to hang out lol. people are strange, and you can choose whether or not you think you want to be a celebrity, then maybe look into a security team... you're home is your safe place, people need to respect that; with brody just watch his behavior, and say no or don't to engage and tell the owners of the other dog, honestly, if you feel like this you can say, " he's too young "and like a child, they have boundaries too. Love you! Keep shining :) say hi to chase and lucy and your mom for me!

I know you love sharing, your life. Here is something, to maybe think about. There was another RUclipsr, who didn’t film in certain areas in her home. She didn’t vlog on the streets near her place either. There are people, who will try to figure out where you live, just by the layout of your place. Or even a view from a window. You’re a smart girl. When you come to PA, maybe you could just make little changes like that.

I have an almost two year old golden mix and believe me, some dog owners don’t have common sense! The best thing you can do is to stand up for yourself and your dog, the same as you would do with your child. Don’t be afraid about hurting other people’s feelings, it will take time. My girl was attacked by another dog because it’s owner wasn’t restraining their dog, I wish I would have spoken up sooner because now my dog is frightened by dogs she doesn’t know. I advise to avoid dog parks as well as introductions with dogs and owners you don’t know. If someone stops just say you are in training or “I’m sorry I don’t do introductions with dogs I don’t know” it is totally okay to say that! Brody can get all the best socialization by going to puppy classes or training classes and knowing to walk past other dogs on the street or pay attention to you is a great training skill you can start early and it will also give you an excuse not to be put in an uncomfortable situation with a dog or an owner you don’t know! I hope this helps, you have the sweetest boy!

don’t feel like you’re being rude!! brody is your dog and you have control over who pets him or anything like that. i have a dog and even though she’s well trained we never really let her go near other dogs or let people pet her and especially now. i would recommend that you wear a mask when you take brody on walks (if you don’t already) because that will help people realize that you don’t want people to be near you. and again do not be afraid to turn people down, if they ask to pet him just say no, and if they don’t ask just say please don’t pet him. i’m no expect but i hope this helps!! anyone with the slightest bit of decency will respect your wishes and personal space!

I am certainly very well aware of the fact that you consider anybody who watches your channel as your friend Gretchen which is perfectly fine :-). But of course you have to be careful which is very very true like you said with having online friends. Especially those you've never ever met in person or encountered encountering you as your fan in the streets. But its really nice that you consider all the youtubers who watch you as your friend Gretchen it is tremendously sweet of you and its definitely sensible of you to draw a barrier over some parts of it in substantial circumstances Gretchen which is long but precautious :-). But lovely stuff Gretchen and please don't worry my dear faithful lady I would never ever just go rushing over to your local residence and go knocking on your door or running after you because some fans are like that, particularly some girls or young girls sorry to sound sexist but it is known to happen sometimes though Gretchen. Its can happen to some famous people, particularly some extremely famous actors or famously popular youtubers, entertainers and such yeah. Alright then, have a nice evening Gretchen, plus I wish you all the best and take care of yourself Gretchen :-).

I know my comment may be too late for you to see but one time I was scared about my puppy with a big dog that was quite aggressive so I picked up my puppy and then the bigger dog tried to jump at me to "play" with my puppy but it was definitely not playful and was really scary. I always just ask the owner "is your dog happy to play with other dogs" and if they don't seem to be okay I just smile and day "oh my puppy must just be a little intimidated sorry" and walk off.

I hope people take in what you said and don't come and see your family at home. People probably think they are being harmless because they know they are your fans and are just excited about having a youtuber they love be from their area. But to your family they are just a stranger who firstly made the decision to look up addresses online and then made a second decision to actually show up in person so that doesn't just make you a stranger it automatically puts you into creepy stranger territory right off the bat.

Gretchen, I’m an animal Control Officer and I don’t want to freak you out, but you should be cautious of other dogs. Not just for Brodys safety but for yours as well. Heaven forbid anything should happen, the most important thing to do is get the other dogs owner information. If they are unwilling to give it to you call the police. And TAKE pictures. Also you should inform your local Animal Control if a person was bitten for rabies control. Not trying to scare you but a lot of people don’t know what to do.

I see a lot of youtubers apologizing for living their lives ... people are gonna find any reason to say something negative .. you don’t have to give a disclaimer about why you and max, both adults, are choosing to do something ..it’s your life .. y’all in her business don’t do that

I don’t think it’s rude to pick Brody up. My dog is too heavy to lift so I usually say she’s unpredictable with other dogs or she’s not good with other dogs (even though she is). We went to a dog park once and a dog attacked her and it was so bad so I just don’t let her play with dogs I don’t know & don’t go to dog parks anymore. Your dogs safety comes first!

It’s really sad, that you have to explain, why you are doing, what you are doing! As long as you are being as safe as you can. I don’t think you should ever apologize for something that has to happen. 🤷🏻‍♀️ What’s even worst, why would someone come to a random persons house, that does not know you, during a pandemic none the less 😳 That’s creepy and if that person is reading these comments, you need help! That is not okay. I’m sorry Gretchen, but I would put a restraining order on them. That person is a stalker and thinks it’s okay if you don’t 😔 I know you are such a sweet person but sometimes you have to do things, to keep safe 🙏🏻💜
