I’ve lived in the Lowcountry most of my life. There are a lot of reasons .. family, friends, work, church, natural beauty, and a southern lifestyle like no other. I follow John’s channel and am amazed at what a great service he & his team provide. It’s easy to take our world for granted. John’s videos answer the questions most lookers / newcomers have .. honestly and thoroughly. Y’all come see us.
You ignored the biggest negative of the low country. The heat and humidity of the summers. I’ve lived all over the country ( including 12 years in Florida) and it’s by far the worst I’ve ever experienced.
Very calm narration. People have such irrational fear of crime - especially in places they are un- familiar with. The vast majority of crime is with people who know each other. Even in Chicago, DC, NOLA, Baltimore, etc., I have never had any issues. Don't be stupid, and stay out of crime-infested areas/druggie places. There is no homeless mess like so many US cities, especially on the Left Coast.
I've lived in the Carolinas over 30 years now. If you didn't have allergies before you move here just wait they will show up. A Netti pot works wonders as opposed to traditional medications. As opposed to the winters in the north where you have to be able to handle the December, January, February, in the Carolinas (other than maybe the mountains) you have to be able to handle the June, July, August. I don't really think there are 4 seasons unless you go to the mountains. I have pretty much taken to calling it spring, summer, flinter. Just my two cents worth. FLY NAVY!!!
Sweet vid. I've lived in the Lowcountry most of my life and even a screened porch doesn't protect you from the gnats. They breed in the marsh and are out in the best weather. Nice real estate video. People that choose to live in any gated community should read all the CCR's before you sign on that dotted line. The are plus' and minus' to any subdivision community. The low country is a great place to live or retire to in the future.
So, as for 278, it is busier when spring break time comes and all the license plates turn to Ohio. Then also, people are not used to the street break to businesses and cannot see the signs of the places. So, use map apps to get you there if you are not familiar with the area. Also, if you are used to big concerts, well be ready to go to Charleston, Columbia, or Jacksonville. You might get lucky sometimes in Savannah
Thank you Mr. Weber for your heads up on things you should have known before moving to SC. My son & daughter-law have recently moved to the Greenville north area and I joined them. I appreciate your straight forwardness and honesty. Thank you.
Hello, John. Thanks for the great video. Very honest and informative. I'm from New York and plan to retire in 10 years and thinking about Florida at the moment, but I'm just batting ideas around in my head right now. I just found out my sister is moving to Monck's Corner, SC in August and my brother presently lives in Charlotte, NC so the Carolinas are in my radar, too. What's the average price of a home there in one of the gated communities? Also, what about hurricanes? I know that's an issue all along the coast, including Florida. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! It's hard to give you an average because the communities are different from each other, with different price points, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. When the time comes, we would be able to find you a home that you love within your budget. Yes we do get Hurricanes, typically we are not the first landfall point, as we are so far west on the coast. They tend to make landfall along the Florida coast or north of us around Charleston.
I was thinking of relocating to either Murrells Inlet / Pawleys Island / Litchfield areas. My daughter suggested Bluffton for its proximity to a major city (Savannah) for work.
We come from up North and Purchased a place in Palmetto Dunes I have to say there is a difference between east coast up north and midwest. My experience in traveling and living abroad is people think Americans are all alike because they form opinions from TV and visitors they meet. I am not being critical here of anyone but just recognizing we are all different.
Isn't it funny that they are so worried about a Gator getting them but they aren't at all worried about walking down a street in NYC and getting mugged? It is all about your comfort level with your surroundings.
14th generation Lowcountry local here. The first thing I tell newcomers is to expect alligators in ANY and ALL bodies of water here. They do not specifically reside in fresh water. I grew up and live on Chechessee in Okatie, it is a deep saltwater river. We see alligators every year. Especially in August-September when it's very hot and dry outside. The water levels in the golf course lagoons drop so they move to the nearest deep, cooler body of water. As for the bugs, they might not be too bad if you have your porch fans on high but they are an issue year round. They die down a little when it's cold but they pop right back up after that 3-5 day cold spell we get once or twice a winter.
I’m from yo North and live in a gated community, I’m considering moving to that area. I’m kind of concerned about the hot, humid weather and wondering if think I may miss the diversity I enjoy up north. Thanks for the information.

We live here and our cat catches a snake every day. Every day. But so far have only seen Garter snakes, a Black Racer, and one unidentified. We did pick up a Snapping turtle on the porch too. Next door neighbor had a rattler nestled in the bricks on their porch....
Have you done any videos on which community in the area is best if you like to go bicycling (prefer rides about 20 -25 miles and casual biking around town or beaches)?
Hi Wendy, thanks for watching! Hilton Head is great for biking! There’s a path that will let you bike to just about anywhere on the island! Here’s a link to the map with the pathway. www.hiltonheadisland.org/see-do/biking/biking-maps Our beach is hard packed sand, great for riding!
John thanks for replying so quickly about biking. The maps look awesome, and love the bike friendliness! How about in Bluffton or other mainland communities? Are there biking paths there, and how difficult is it to bike from the mainland to the island? Is route 278 the only way to get there? Thanks for your time.
You’re very welcome Wendy! Bluffton is a bit more difficult because there aren’t many paths to bike on. There’s a path on 170. And some trails you can drive to. 278 is the only way to get to the island. The plans for the new bridge include a path for pedestrians and bicycles.
John your videos have been enjoyable as well as eye-opening. We have been going down to Sea Pines for several years and finally made the decision to leave NYS. But, I'm heart-broken. So expensive and not much inventory. We will sit tight for a while.
@@TheJohnWeberTeam once everyone realizes hybrid practices just won’t work long term. They will have to move back to cities. Just my opinion. Personally, I’ve seen properties in need of so much work yet selling between $400 -500,000 if not more. It’s insulting.
