I want my coffin to be equipped with RGB lights
When I die I will have a golden RGB shrine in my honour.
I bet it already exists
Casket*
Murmeli lets make it happen
LOL!
I have a wraith spire RGB cooler, but didn't know the 4 pin header was for the RGB feature. I'm an idiot lol
200dollarbill for mine between 2800-3000 rpm at 100% fan speed
200dollarbill lol your English isn't bad at all
Yes you are
Please tell me you didn't build your pc yourself
You fokin wot m8?
RGB is the most important thing in computer building
I love how he didn't actually flip the lever on the cooler correctly, then claimed it was a "nice secure fit".
Was wondering about that as well. I just did two AM3+ CPU swaps using stock coolers and the cam effect of the lever is much more that what Linus is showing.

Does linus even get old?
Lol true
Aleksandar Radjen Yes, but his cells have been underclocked to age slower.
no, he's still a teenager
He's as old as he'll ever get.
He injects himself with stem cells of newborn babies to stop the aging process.
Wraith Max: Who the hell are you?
Wraith Prism: I’m you, but better.
Exactly my thoughts as well
Fax it's just the max with awesome RGB
I know this comment is a year old, but whatever... shouldn't it be the opposite? Since the wraith prism is only 105 tdp compared to the 140 of the wraith max.
@@TheCostantinus you forgot about the RGB.
@@samtherat6 yeah right, sorry I'm still a beginner, I forgot that rgb is the most important part of pc building
UPDATE: Turned out that one of the ups guy stole the CPU and I'm getting a replacement next week.
Well my experience got utterly destroyed when UPS fucked up and lost my Ryzen 1600 during shipment. RIP ME
*LOL*
Fun fact: germans say UPS when they accidentally did something wrong.
makes sense since the package came from Germany :D
Now I had to laugh, sorry.
I thought it was.... oops
so that's why my stock cooler handles the automatic motherboard overclock so well, they gave a 95W cooler on a 65W cpu

@@walidfakhfakh3660 You seriously took the time to tell me that a stupid comment I made 3 years ago isn't funny. You might want to reconsider your life choices if this is what you do for fun.
If it only comes with pre-built systems, why did you show how to install it?
lel
Jon Gorman For reinstallation
It doesn't, it comes with the processor when you custom build one too.
which one?
please dont say fx
Kanishck Tewatia which one do I have? Ryzen 1700.
I use the stock cooler with my 1600 overclocked to 3775. Works just fine.
nice to hear what temps is it running at?
Gets into the low 90s under stress testing. Most of the time it hangs out in the 40s to 60s.
Davin Dameron what is 3775?
3775 mhz clock speed
well I doubt all 6 cores in the CPU would be on full load, so I guess wraith is a decent cooler for overclocking
Definitely, want more Ryzen videos. I'd like as much exposure to AMD''s new products as possible - this is coming from a non-fanboy (on either side)
I watched the whole IBM commercial just for you guys
grassy climer Thanks man we really appreciate it
Your deeds haven't gone unnoticed.
2:52 ain't you meant to lock it down the other way lol
I want to see more Ryzen centric videos across both LTT and Techquickie thank you very much!
My friend bought a pc with a ryzen 1600, and i have to say, the wraith spire performs suprisingly well, it keeps that CPU really cool under some heavy load.
He's genuinly happy with it, also with the fact that the RGB ring blends in with his case!
A_flying_dutchman [NL] the RGB doesn't come with a 1600...
Yes it fucking does.
saladwithsalad well that escalated quickly... Douche
FYI, I've literally got my 1600 sat here right in front of me. No LED.
I have the 1600 and no it doesn t.
1600 alone comes with cooler with no rgb, but guy said he bought PC with ryzen 1600 means its prebuild system and it might be with different cooler
pfffff, ryzen peasants. Dont ya'll know it's all about AMD's A-series processors nowadays??
Daan Stammes i'm intrigued by the possibilities an A-series with ryzen architecture brings up.
Me too, HBM and better thermals might make those APUs very good
but im refering to the bulldozer architecture. which is because of its high ipc and great value in therms of power usage, far superior over any architecture ever created. this is a massive breakthrough in the processor market.
Daan Stammes you mean raven ridge, right?
because as far as i remember, bulldozer was from way back in 2011 as llano followed by trinity.
BlendJul ... he's kidding
Why dont they sell the 1700 with the wraith max? It looks like a great and silent cooler, so why not charge 20$ extra and pack it with the 1700?
because savage /:
TheJackalPhantom I understand not selling the wraiths alone, but having an option to get a big one with the 1700 would be awesome. Aside from the production of the max, there would also be no extra cost. Just use the 1800 box design, print the 1700 stuff onto it and put a 1700 in there.
An AMD rep said on Reddit that AMD is a processor company and that they don't want to piss off the aftermarket cooler manufacturers by competing with them.
Lars Bolduc That sounds just like AMD. Nvidia would have invented a special mounting system for every CPU/Mobo combination to prevent any aftermarket coolers from being affordable.
Some other people in this comment section say that some Ryzen CPU's do come with the Wraith Max. It's just that most stores decided not to stock the variants with the Wraith Max. I don't know how true this is, so take that as you will.
A wraith cooler came with my FX6350 as I bought it fairly late in the piece. I found that the Cooler Master Evo was much better and I have managed to reach 4.2GHz stable with temps in the 50's running Prime95.
These are completely different Wraith coolers to the ancient ones you're talking about. Also Bulldozer ran hot as the fucking sun, Zen otoh is stupid efficient.
Just wanted to add that you CAN get the Waith MAX CPU Cooler packaged with the AMD-FX 8350 4.0GH 8-Core Prosesser. Its not their Ryzen CPU bundle but still a good chip.
If you look at the fans, you'll see that the 8350 cooler has a different fan with only the AMD logo in RGB and different shape fan blades. It's either a v1 or it's a lesser product than the Wraith Max in this video. Either way, Linus' claim holds valid.
moo. I agree. right after viewing this video I popped open my case to see if I too had RGB lights. Sadly, i do not. But it does have most everything else the MAX has with the large square Heat Sync and the Cooling tubes. Almost identical really.
I've seen a video comparing the old Wraith Max to the Ryzen one, there's quite the difference. Heatsink size is different, build quality is different, and most importantly, the fan is completely different.
WheelmanGames the Wraith Max is just a rebranded FX-series Wraith cooler, with added LED lighting
But the old wraith cooler is as loud as a fucking jet engine...
Did some overclocking with Ryzen 1700 stock cooler. Went up to 3.6 GHz from 3.0 GHz, haven't tested higher clock for now.
These are the results:
3,00 GHz
Cinabench: 1272
Temp: ~45 C
3,40 GHz
Cinabench: 1482
Temp: ~52 C
3,60 GHz
Cinabench: 1557
Temp: ~55 C
You can push easily till 3.8 and stay under 70* easily
Taurib nice results, looks like you know what you're doing. Can i ask how much voltage did you use?
Nice results btw, like 25% better performance...
please do more ryzen centric content and also can you do a video on fan controllers? There isn't really much out there
Wraith prism on 2600! Looks sweet and keeps a 4ghz oc at 65c!
I used a Wraith cooler on my FX-8370 for a while. Never got temps above 60 degrees Celsius under heavy load, but it did get a little loud for me. I ended up just getting a radiator.
Yep, I got my R7 1700 at 3.9ghz with stock rgb cooler :) it's awesome.
Juan Chemell wow 3.9 ghz xD
3.9 mhz? Daaamn what an epic underclock. Can you run calculator on it?
haha typo thinking about dram oc >:'D
I love the Wraith, got one of the first ones packaged with the FX-8370. Their an extremely impressive step up for a stock cooler.
Love how he future proofed the video by including (well kinda) how to install the max, Ryzen 2700x babyyyyyy
3600
On the old AMD 6 cores I got mine from 3.3 to 4.2 just using the stock heatsink and it's been running fine for years
2:50 leveRRR
I was able to overclock my Ryzen 1700 to 3.7ghz @ 1.20v using the included wraith spire cooler. While my idle temps were in the low 30s, my load temps approached 82c. I know officially this is within spec for the Ryzen CPUs, but I like my processors to run cooler so I replaced the wraith with my old h100i v2. Now I'm sitting happily at 3.8ghz @ 1.30v and my max load temps never go above 70c, with average gaming temps in the mid to high 50s.
While I will continue to use the h100i, I have to say that the wraith exceeded my expectations and was hands-down the quietest and most capable stock cooler I have ever owned.
talked for 5 mins about coolers and didn't mention any temperatures. LOL, who writes your episodes
There very good coolers. My Ryzen 3 1200 AF never goes over 57 degrees Celsius while gamingx
2:48 - wrong. The clip is pressed the other way to secure the cooler.
Linus still going through puberty. 2:50
It's good. Gets a bit dirty over time and the screws made a bit trouble but it's silent and keeps the CPU cool. After I changed the (,don't know the English word) heat distribution paste and installed one additional cheap cooler the temperature didn't rise over 70° on Max load(2400g) mostly around 50-60
Intel desliked this vid...
I realised that this video was a relic when the cooler that looked like the Wraith Prism didn't have an RGB fan and when he said you can only get them with a pre-built.
what happened to linus's left cheek at 0:50 :0
Build an R5 1600 over the weekend, for a family member. I was impressed by how quiet and downright decent AMD's stock coolers are now. And I should mention that it being mounted with screws and not some weird push-pin / lever BS was awesome.
Fan club is a place where fans come together to become COOLer!
actually the thing about that clip cooler is that you can get them on eBay for like $30 from Harvesters
I have a 1600 coming in next week. I was going to put an AIO on it, but the overclock potential doesn't seem that exciting.
1600 @ 4ghz = 7700k @ 5ghz
first series processor vs seventh series processor, what do you expect
I wasn't 'expecting anything. I just changed my parts list when i saw what the overclocking potential was.
Cilian Roche you really can overclock "decently" this ryzens, like 1.4 ghz extra in the r7's. That's not extreme compared to intel, but 1.4 ghz is like 50% more than the stock frecency. I still dont see the watercooling necesary at all as this ryzen nearly don't produce heat, the whraith spire is just okay with ryzen.
Video starts with linus doing an ad: ok normal
Me noticing a yellow line at the video player: wait a second wtf?
My CPU exploaded
I helped my brother build his PC a couple of months ago, just when ryzen came to the shops, and he got the cheapest ryzen 7. The cooler that came with the cpu was the spire, I believe. It works really well, considered it's a stock cooler, looks really good, has the rgb goodness, and is pretty quiet under load, due to it's larger fan, from the old AMD cooler. I still have my old stock cooler lying around (now using the corsair h100i gtx or whatever, the newest 240mm rad). The old one got up to 4000-4500RPM or something, and it had a horrible whine to it, like some jet turbine. Main reason I got the watercooler :)
Next : wannacry as fast as possible
Using a Wraith Prism on a 3800x. Works wonderfully! No thermal issues, and it looks amazing. Though it's not quite as silent as I would prefer, so one day I might get a Noctua cooler to put on it.
2:49 "voice crack"
I recently bought a Ryzen 5 3600. It came with the Wraith "Stealth" cooler. By "stealth" they must mean that it's acts like it's invisible because my CPU went above 95 degs C during a Cinebench run FFS. It got so hot that Cinebench couldn't finish. I don't know what AMD is thinking by providing that cooler with that CPU. I had to dig out an old Thermaltake Spin Q VT that I had laying around just to be able to complete Cinebench. The CPU only goes up to 55 degs C now. Huge difference. If you must have AMD written on your cooler, shell out for a Wraith Max. You'll need it.
Why Am I Watching This, I Have A CLC? Why Did I Just Ask You Guys? Why Are You Reading My Comment? Why Does NCIX Tech Tips's "Intel Not Buying AMD Graphics, Destiny 2 Coming to Battle.net, Overwatch Anniversary" Video Have So Many Dislikes? Oh wait, we all know the answer to that one 😂
And there's also the prism which has also an RBG backlight on the actual fan blades (pretty good cooler actually)
MOAR RYZEN
I installed my Ryzen 1600 yesterday and ran GTAV for over and hour while running CPUID hardware monitor in the background in over an hour of gaming my temp never went above 55c with the wraith spire. GG AMD Ryzen.
funny looking fidget spinner
My computer that I built has one of those Writh Max coolers, AND it was what came with the CPU.
Can there ever be a video with no Linus cheesy puns?
shayan karimaghaei yes, a Linusless video
and less RGB
to be honest AMD "wraith" can also be purchased with AM3+ Fx6350 Fx8350 and Fx8370 and that wraith (1 gen?) was the fundamental stone for the Ryzen Lineup
The only thing interesting about a heatsink its it DB output. Nothing moore nothing less. Blessed is the silent pc.
Temps are more important imo, but DB output is really important too.
Olebull93 different sides of the same medal. you need high heat dissipation for low temps and low noise.
Olebull93 If the PC performs to my expectations or above I don't care if it sounds like a small gas turbine, I have good headphones :)
I have my 1600 right next to me, it literally is as silent as a fan can get while still on, it's SO quiet, my keyboard makes more noise than it!
Lets think beyond your hermit seclution. You know... The space where everyone else lives in....
I have a Wraith Spire that came with my Ryzen 7 1700. I've been pleased with it, and would say that Linus' description is on point. It's quiet, and keeps the CPU reasonably cool even with modest to moderate overclocking (currently running at 3.5GHz). RGB is a nice touch too.
So the only good cooler in the bunch is the one you will never get unless you buy a pre-build system. WTF?
actually all of them would be decent aftermarket coolers; they're amazing stock coolers
The Wraith Spire is incredible.
Either that, or you find the one-in-a-dozen retailers that actually sells a 1700X or 1800X with a Wraith Max included (because those do exist).
I'm guessing the big ol cooler is gonna come with the 16 core threadcipper cpus if they package a cooler with those....
Big news, you'll be able to buy it for 60USD in september. You can get cheaper coolers that are as good, but no rgb and nice design.
i have Ryzen 5 2600 and i can't say that im very happy with the heatsink. It doesn't like Blender very much and i can forget about overclocking while using it. But maybe it's just the blender and cycles rendering.
LTT audience, can you help me with my PC build? I have a budget of about $1100 (Canadian rupees). I'm thinking of a Ryzen 1600x and an RX580. I need more cores because of the CAD work I do. These two parts will yield about $700. The rest of the parts I think I can get under my budget because I'll skimp on asthetics and the case. Any help, or advice? If I were get an Intel CPU, I'd need an i7 b/c of Hyperthreading and it being better for CAD work, but those CPUs are like $400 min.
1600>1600x,also you can fit a 1070 in that price range,just don't get a x370 board.
What he said. Get the 1600 and overclock it a bit, should give you the same performance as the 1600x. Get a B350 board as well if you're not a "heavy" overclocker. You'll probably get 3.7~3.9Ghz stable with a decent B350 Motherboard, and with the spare money, aim for the 1070.
Algray Solipso Okay, sounds like a good plan. I've heard you can OC the 1600 to perform just as well as the 1600x. Is OC easy? I've only ever used laptops and this'll be my first PC. I looked at the prices for GPUs and the 1070 (8gb) is $200 more expensive at $530 than the RX580 (8gb). Is the performance increase justified for $200?
For 200 Bucks? I'm not really sure. I don't think so. Those cards have a bit of a gap between them something that 50~100 might be justified, but 200 is a tad too much. OC isn't that hard. There's already a bunch of OC guides for Ryzen CPU's. And if you don't find one for the exact motherboard you get, you can always ask in some OC forums. You can use the extra money for a SSD if you don't have one, or to get another one for a RAID setup.
SimmonSays this dude just said Canadian Rupees. Are you ill? It's not India, they don't use Rupees. They use dollars for fucks sake
I have my Ryzen 7 1700 overclocked to 3.9 GHz at 1.4 volts with the Wraith Spire RGB cooler (using the stock thermal paste) and during synthetic loads and stress tests I hit around 89 degrees C.
Obviously, that's pretty damn hot. But, for loads that I usually do (gaming, video rendering, etc), the CPU seems to only really peak around 77-80 degrees C, so I'm pretty comfortable with this overclock. If I wanted it to be cooler, I'd go out and buy a _be quiet! Shadow Rock 2_ or just keep the overclock to 3.7 GHz at 1.325 volts, which would only hit around the high 70s at synthetic loads. It's a pretty damn good stock cooler if I've ever seen one.
not a fan of the backround music
Taika Miäs kinda irritating isn't it...
yeah
One of my custom builds has a Ryzen 5 with the Wraith Spire. It was a bit of a pain to install, for me at least because the screws seemed like they never wanted to get a firm grasp into the sockets. However, once I got it installed, however, it's been working beautifully. I've been pleasantly surprised by not only how quiet it's been but how cool it's been keeping the CPU.
3rd party cpu cooler maker hates amd
Own a Ryzen 7 1700 with the stock wraith cooler and am very happy with it, keeps my temps to a good level without me worrying about if I overclock a bit.
Sure I would never run a 4GHz on this processor but 3.6 seems very attainable without too much heat.
A video on wannacry ransomware as fast as possible. Like if you agree
yesss
The 95w TDP Wraith Spire actually has a vapor chamber in it. That is not just a copper slug ;-) BTW Cooler Master makes them for AMD..
I watched the entire video already
John Smith well no you didn't
jubbwubb Yes I did dumbass

I just ordered a 1500x. This video gave me some faith in the spire.
2:14 - If you buy ryzen 7 2700 you get one of these puppies
2:03
Incorrect - AMD had stock coolers with heat pipes for all their high performance s939 4xxx CPUs; 16 years ago and has still been doing it
Since the 754 days? You mean since Socket 1 days. Spring clips have been around since the Socket 1 days.
I'm using an AMD A10 5800k and it's stock cooler, it's very loud and very warm. They've come a long way it seems
I have a stock cooler with four heat pipes and supposedly 125w + heat dissipation that came with my old Phenom 2 1055 and so far I've never seen temperatures of over 65 degrees Celsius even overclocked on a synthetic stress test
For anyone wondering this video is a bit outdated as Ryzen 7 and 9 now come with Wraith Prism (and they now have RGB in the fan as well)
3:31 do this too many times and you will break your cables linus
Three year old video I know... And I now got the Wraith in my digital DEC PC build...
I am doing a .5ghz overclock on my sprire cooler I had a 120mm aio but just liked the look of this stock cooler with the rgb ring so much more
I used my FX8350 Wraith Max on the 95 watt 2600X. No RGB but it does have a small illuminated AMD logo. If it can keep a 125 watt TDP FX 8 core oven under 61℃ you can imagine how well it performs with PBO headroom on the 95 watt TDP CPU. Clips right on AM4 motherboards out of the box.
Got a wraith spire paired with 1500x overclocked at 4 Ghz. It performs just fine and the noise is not disturbing as the fan runs at 90% under 100% load.
Actually I have been testing with a ryzen 7 1700 with the spire and I got 3.8ghz OC while fan speed is still way below 100% and you can barely hear it even at full speed anyway.
Good job AMD
in the early days of Ryzen I waited and picked up a wraith spire from some person that went aftermarket. I then ran it on my 1700X for a while I saved for my water cooler. It worked well even did a small overclock with it. Granted the 240 water cooler is lots better it was a dirt cheap way to get my system up and going. Now it is cooling a 1600X in a ITX build and working fine with again a slight overclock. Shame the wraith does not come with the same mounting the spire does...
I'm fairly sure those terribad plastic hook mounting mechanism has been around for much longer than Socket 754. I think even Socket 4 had those things already.
When you get a Wix.com ad in front of an LTT video when they swear by SquareSpace. I dont know how I feel about this.
Those higher end Wraith coolers look exactly the same as the old AMD heatsinks; just with a bigger fan. I think my Phenom II 955 and FX-8350 included them. They were pretty decent coolers. Didn't have much room for OC'ing though, but that's not what they're designed for.
i have the ryzen 7 1700 and i use the wraith spire with RGB. The RGB lighting looks fantastic in my build. I have my CPU clocked at 3.9 GHz on stock Voltage (1.3000 V) and it never reaches above 70C in my stress tests. keep in mind this is a stock CPU cooler on an 8c/16t CPU with an overclock. I think it is pretty impressive
Actually using my Wraith Spire with r7 1700, i can get decent overclock and good temps.. I'd love to see more ryzen videos
I'm astonished by the spire's performance with my r5 1600, overclocked to 3.9GHz at 1.3v. It runs ridiculously cool (max 65C) in a place where ambient temperatures hit 37C on the regular.
2:50 nice hitch
Well, I haven't used my Wraith with a Ryzen chip, nor does mine have RGB lighting... But it has been keeping my FX8370 nice and frosty for just under a year now...
Great stock cooler :)
2:00 wdym??? I worked half year internship as pc builder. Ive had these a decent amount out of cpu boxes
Been using for quite sometimes. No plan to change anytime soon! Ryzen 1700 at 3.8 and never care about termal issue! Love it!
The Wraith max isn't the only one with a heatpipe design, the Wraith spire also has a vapor chamber in its copper core
2:45 Umm, you didn't actually flip the lever the right way lol...That didn't tighten the cooler down at all.
i think someone at the ltt office needs to go and watch that really old techquickie since they didn't push around the lever on the wraith max
Running my Ryzen 5 1600 at 3.9GHz with Wraith Spire. It's great. Temps get up to around 80C with Prime95, but the rest of the time it keeps things nice and cool. Win!
My Ryzen 5's Wraith Spire cooler is nearly as quiet as the Hyper 212 EVO in my old Phenom II machine and much smaller and easier to install. I love it.
3:05 dont worry about that step, its not needed cpus now come w a heatshield that prevents u from breaking the chip translating presure from the IHS to the cpu PCB and from there to the entire motherboard, secondary effects are worst temeratures, but its not that important for real, old pentium 3 had the chip exposed was more important to care about that but also it have awesomely low temperatures
0:12 i see what you put in(tel) there..
