    There is another advantage to the Wraith Prism against the other coolers and that is that the Wraith Prism is a Push-Down type cooler and it helps the memories and circuitry underneath the cooler by providing airflow to them.

  • @vh9network
    @vh9network 5 лет назад +787

    There is a way to make the Wraith Prism go even faster (louder). On the side there's a tiny little switch that reads L and H, for low and high, and AMD ship these stock coolers with the L setting set.

      @lflyr6287 5 лет назад +2

      @James Smith sorry to say, but your personal opinion is slightly if not strongly a product of thos 5-6 years of Shintels dominance in the market and what reviewers were consequentially accepting what quazi is right and portraying it in their not knowingly biased videos. Unfortunately for Shintel the tides have almost completely turned for 180 degrees around and there is a new leading manufacturer in town now....and if they commercialize it as a free added bonus (despite the fact that logically they factor in the cost of it) we consumers, considering how much we already get from Ryzen cpu-s, are gladly accepting the illusion that Wraith Prism is free even if economically it's not. But the fact of ZEN perfomance in general and how superbly well Wraith Prism cools them it's only natural that it gets all the praise it deserves and more :).

  • @marouna.3578
    @marouna.3578 5 лет назад +1

    I have a 2700x paired with the stock cooler and noise is no problem for me. As soon as I got into the UEFI I set the fan to 100% and I did try to overclock the 2700x to 4.3 ghz. It was semi-successful because when I performed a stress test in Cinebench R15, I got it to run stable the 1st test and if I waited around 30 seconds or let my cpu temps lower to around 50 degrees Celsius and ran another stress test, it did not crashed and was successful again. Though, if I did one stress test, finished the 1st test, and than did another test without waiting for my cpu temps to lower, I would crash because trying to run the stock Wraith Prism at 4.3 ghz is already a struggle hitting around 80-86 degrees Celsius, but the annoying thing here is that for some odd reason there is a penalty on the 2700x and that is the maximum temps before crashing is 85 degrees Celsius. The reason why I am calling this odd is that the 3700x, 3800x, or 2700 does not suffer from this penalty having a maximum crash temperature of 95 degrees Celsius. Could the 3700x and 2700 get away with a higher maximum temp because they both have a lower TDP of 65 watts (3700x) and 95 watts (2700)? Though, if this is true, than how can the 3800x, 3900x, and 3950x get away with a higher max temp of 95 degrees Celsius while still having a TDP of 105 watts?! I think the 2700x is the only Ryzen chip to have an 85 degree max temp with an 105 watts and that is kind of annoying for me. Is there a way of setting the maximum temperature to 95 degrees Celsius on the 2700x in the UEFI, or do I just have to get an aftermarket solution like an aftermarket cooler or an AIO because for some reason I just like having a down-fire cpu cooler with RGB. Please tell me if you do have any knowledge about my situation on increasing the max temp or maybe even an aftermarket cooling solution. Thanks.

    It confuses me that you're showing test data with the 3600X which does not have this cooler. Of course results will be different for CPU's that actually ship with this cooler.
    I'm using it on the 3700X and while performance is OK it is actually really loud when the CPU is under load.
    I'd say the cooler is just OK but there's definitely a benefit in replacing it with a better one if you want to max out performance or reduce noise.

    • @rajackar
      @rajackar 5 лет назад +4

      @StreamerGeo On high CPU loads the temp can go over 80 C. On prime 95 I've seen the temp actually hit 95 C and the CPU throttles. On less heavy workloads like some games temps are lower of course. But the fan spins up and down a lot during normal usage and on higher RPMs is pretty loud.

    • @rajackar
      @rajackar 5 лет назад +2

      @StreamerGeo I Feel your pain ;-)
      That's why I thought it was bullshit to test this cooler with a 3600 like the creator of the video did. It will not generate the amount of heat a higher tiered processor will so the cooler will look way to good as a result. Misleading video of you ask me.
      I got a AIO from MSI as part of a promotion but I'm still waiting for them to deliver it. (Been 6 weeks). I hope that will help, of not I'm replacing it with a quiet CPU cooler. Or maybe just replacing the fan will be enough. Also you can set a bios fan profile to keen the fan at low speed under 60 C or something. It will still be loud but it won't spin up and down as much and cause annoyance.

    • @rajackar

      @StreamerGeo Ryzen master software shows the limit as 95C. And I can actually hit that on prime 95. Also the Ryzen CPUs are very sensitive to temp as they boost higher if the temps are lower. So there is a clear benefit to keeping your temps low. And it's also better for your ears haha.

    Tried the Wraith cooler on my 3900X for a couple weeks. It ran well but the noise was unbearable for me. I tried adjusting the fan curve which helped but during any moderate task the fan would have to spin up to 3K RPM to keep the processor from getting really hot. Cinebench would cause it to go all the way to 95C but it would get acceptable scores. During gaming it would hit 75-80C typically and the fan would constantly jump to max RPM. Its just something I would notice constantly and it was a distraction and nuisance. I popped in an EVGA 280mm CLC and I am glad I did! It does come close to the CPU's thermal limits even while benching w/ Cinebench and the water cooler never spins up to keep temps down, they just stay low all the time. Nice quiet beast of a system now. I would say if you are throwing down the money for a top end CPU/Mobo you may as well splurge for the cooler too.

      @FireMrshlBill 5 лет назад

      The most impressive thing is that your 4 year old has her own PC, haha. We don't even let ours call the Fire tablet hers since she will just sass us and say "its mine, I can do what I want" when we say she has had enough for the day (plus both of my kids share it). I upgraded my powerline adapters in my house and can now stream to Steam Links from my main PC, so was going to chop up 2 of my HTPCs + some spare parts I have into 3 separate PC's to sell off, including a 2200g build I was going to slap a spare Prism on. Maybe I will consider making something for the kids to use. Though I still have another 2200g build in an InWin BQ656 (variant of the Chopin) that I won't sell off yet, put too much time into delidding it and messing with settings to push the performance with next to no cooling, however, the Prism won't fit in that unless I cut a hole in the mesh panel but then it will look pretty goofy.
      Speaking of kids and PC gaming, if all of my kids get into PC gaming, Steam's family sharing only allows one user to play any game in a shared library at a time... so will be a battle between the kids.... and myself, ha. Maybe only one will.

    I helped a friend just upgrade to a 2700x cpu and reconnect his EVGA AIO liquid cooler. So he gave me his 2200g cpu and his left over rgb prism cooler now sitting a tv media box looking beefy. :)

    Thank you for addressing the RGB at the beginning of the video! I'm trying to go for a black build and I already knew I wanted to stick with the stock cooler but I wanted to know if I could disconnect it so thank you for getting to that early in the video

    No one really seems to mention that this is designed and manufactured by Cooler Master and had its own software program to control its functions and lights

    I have some Corsair liquid cooling 3 fan component and I actually want to use the Prism just cause of the brand and unique look of it. Although I would argue that the separate cooler would be easier to deep clean when it gets all dusty since it's not directly on the CPU.

    Think I may be in the market for new PC internals and saw that AMD is shipping with that admittedly nice looking cooler. Good food for thought as I plan out my next build.

    Kinda of an old video now, but my opinion is to keep the cooler up to 3800x. After that you are going to need something a little more powerful and at that price point you can afford it.

    I run the prism with a 3700x on ASUS ROG X470-F board. Was loud as a jet at first and seemed to throttle up and down constantly, with bios at normal (clock was doing 3.7 base, stock voltage seems high with this chip). I moved bios to performance (clock runs at 4ghz base now), pulled my case fans off the cpu and set to MOBO and added smoothing at 5sec. My PC runs crazy quiet now. At first idle temps were 52-56, after adjustments I mentioned idle temps are around 41-46. I have a good corsair tower and am running 4 case fans (can add 3 more), two 140 intakes and two 120 exhaust, board never goes over 40, usually remains in the 30s.

    I undervolted + OC my 3700X with the Wraith Prism and i'm pretty happy with the performance and noise!

    Sorry for the late response. Just buy the TRAY variant instead of the BOX. It is cheaper and doesn't come with the fan.

    I have used a Wraith Prism on my R7-5800X3D for 1½ years now. I traded my Wraith Spire to my stepfather for it because he's really old-school and hates RGB lightning. That Wraith Spire cools his R9-3900X just fine and the Wraith Prism cooled both my R7-5700X and R7-5800X3D just fine. I've never had an issue, the thing just works and temps are always well within spec.

    i mean, for a stock cooler this is honestly better than i expected. so this means i won't have to buy a new cooler straight away and can stick with the stock for at least a while, im building a whole new setup so its kinda nice i can save some cash on the cpu cooling for now

    I got a 3700X and the Prism fan color wouldn't change, only the ring and the logo RGB would change color using the software. Turns out if you connect both RGB and USB headers, you can't change the fan color. So I disconnected RGB and only retained USB header and it's fine now. Using B450 btw.

    Been using this cooler on my 3700x and temps are totally fine. Haven't overclocked and probably won't because stock settings on the cpu and cooler have been great for my gaming.

    I've been using the spare wraith Prism cooler on any Ryzen 5 CPU's. I would personally recommend a beefier Air or water on Ryzen 7 for best results. Thanks Hoosier for the video review on the Prism.

    For my 1st PC build I went RYZEN 7 3700x with a msi x570mb and I was happy my 7 came with a cooler in the box. In time I will upgrade it but it is a good item to have with my RYZEN 7 as a start for getting my build going. At least the cooler don't suck so no complaints from me.

    Think amd should be packaging coolers with their lower end chips and offering coolers separate for their high end chips so you can have the option if your not planning to push the system or leave it behind if you have an upgrade planned

    Very informative.
    I am about to put a Ryzen 7 3700x on a Asus Prime 370x-A (already updated the bios to 5222). I had to order CPU brackets and back plate because I lost mine when I installed my Ryzen 5 1500x with the cooler that came with that. I was worried about the new coolers although now that I have seen this video I feel as if the new cooler will work just fine, Thank you.

    of the 5 pcs I've ever assembled myself, I have always bought an after market water cooler. If amd ditches the stock cooler and saved me a few bucks for my future builds I would not mind it.

    Still a very new builder. Would I be crazy to use a (brand new) Wraith Prism with a Ryzen 5 5600X (when I get it) for my son's new machine?

    They are good cooler, i use one for an old Phenom 2 980be overclocked to the limit on a retro pc, keeps its very cool indeed, the old stock cooler used to get red hot at maximum speed but not so with the wraith

  • @wctwctwctwct

    Is the wraith prism the cooler for all of the ryzen's? And is this cooler sufficient for a 3900x without overclocking it? Thanks...
