    That's great you brought in people with a mix of experience with either the video game or the board game. Due to the strong IP presence, I think there is some value in getting opinions from various angles.

    Thanks for bringing multiple perspectives in while going over it! I got almost everything from the original campaign because the MH IP means a lot to me. There's basically no chance I buy this though.
    SFG's certainly going to gate the content behind more "core boxes", so to get everything we'll be sitting on at least four huge boxes full of completely redundant components, which is obnoxiously wasteful. And despite that and how expensive it is, it still feels cheap and lazy... "Write down how many potions you have"? Eesh.
    Minis were incredible though. And I hope they did ultimately improve more of it for the folks who back it, but I'm out.

    Can you play with the basegame monsters adjusted for iceborne?

    The idea of a second monster coming in to fight the first monster is really cool, but it seems if both monsters happen to focus on you, then you would have no chance.

      As excited as I am for primal the awakening, its board set up would never allow for a turf war like this.

    • @CommDante

      It's just a gameplay choice, and nobody stops you from homebrew ignoring such events .. and other monsters will always have highest priority compared to any Hunter. And with being able to see if a monsters next move will target closest or furthest before flipping the action...
      It's kinda easy to let the monsters just do the fighting for you, afaik.

    So far I'm definitely getting this version of the game.
    That being said I prefer the original games version of the healing and sharpening actions and I'm not a fan of the turf war element at all. I do think they are bringing a lot of interesting ideas into this version, but more interesting to me that there are aspects of both versions that I like and aspects that I wish the other would incorporate.
    If this continues I'm going to need a bigger display area for all of the figures @.@

      There are some optional extras with Iceborne that allow that, yes. You can also get some Kickstarter exclusive stuff from og MHW game with the Iceborne order as extras.

    I am torn between this and the reprint of AEON Tresspass (spelling). Depends on price/content, to expensive to back both. Esecially sine EU/UK backers have to pay extra VAT these days.

    • @Berndr

      Yep I had that surprise too... all games I backed for the last 2 years now come with 40£ tax on the top + postage which can be anything from 20£ plus depending on weight and where is being sent from ... and suddenly these games are not cheap anymore at all... what annoys me nowadays that most companies are sending me a link to Gamefound and asking me to checkout and pay for the tax and postage even though they are not intending to send me the game for at least another year ... In the past that was done a couple of months before delivery of the product was actually ready ...

      Get AT:O especially if you have time and space. AT:I had a crazy good story, great gameplay, but it 100% is a ton of upkeep. The only reason I'd get MHW Iceborne over it is if you have a group and want something quicker and grinder.

    • @CheddahSlammer
      @CheddahSlammer Год назад +1

      For me its AEON Trespass. However Monster Hunter World is probably easier to play. AEON Trespass has a better story and more to the combat itself. Like in Aeon Trespass the more you get damaged the more your able to do, and you can literally get knocked draw a card that will awaken your memories making you stronger lol.

    Im not understanding Meg and the cards she got. Is she saying it can be luck driven and swingy or do the cards build up as you play them, making your character more powerful the longer it takes to kill the monster? I suppose i should watch the gameplay video when its up...

    • @markwatson8714
      @markwatson8714 Год назад +5

      It depends on the weapon. I believe Meg was using the greatsword, which like it's videogame counterpart has it's biggest hitters towards the end of it's combo's; the big damage cards it has either require you already have one or two face up cards on the stamina board already, or demand to be played in the last few slots. I believe it works the same in Iceborne as it does in World. The trick to it is to manage the stamina board so that you always have enough open slots to play the big hitters without clearing it down to the point those cards are no longer eligible to be played. It usually takes a couple of turns to be able to hit that sweet spot, though once you do if you can keep it there it's capable of dealing out some awesome punishment to the monster. The problem of course is keeping it there - cards used to dodge or sprint don't count in terms of fulfilling combo requirements, and the greatsword has a nice selection of defensive cards that you probably want to use in the earlier slots on your board so you can shrug off an attack if it hits, the drawback being they tend to discard themselves from the board when used. It's one of the more interesting weapons in that respect - you have similar offensive capabilities to the other big hitters like the hammer, and similar defensive capabilities to something like the sword and shield. You can't really do both at the same time though, and switching from one to the other will usually take a turn or two, so you're usually trying to read the tempo of the fight to predict when it's going to be time to roll with the punches and when you're going to want to go all out.

      @@markwatson8714 Wow! Thank you for detailing all of this out. I had no idea that the board game played this way. It's been quite a few years since I played the video game. Anyway, your reply definitely makes me want to see some gameplay and dig deeper into this. Is your info on this from how the original Monster Hunter World plays?

    Before ANYONE backs this game, just keep in mind Steamforged is not a good company. They currently have six other games that have not been fulfilled AND they just had a huge layoff spree. Buyer beware!
    And I'll NEVER forgive them for what they did to Guild Ball.

    Lots of waffling with very little actual info. World bg was already a poor atempt of turning a video game into a bg so much wrong that its not MH but a board game wearing a MH skin. I was interested in what Iceborn bg would fix like the palico's but your comments and explainations when talking about the video game experience sounds very off, I can only think its your playstyle.
