My son has done this many times just to clean up the community.
However, I have sometimes asked him to leave the wire springs intact so I could use them in my vegetable garden as supports for ground vineing crops like pumpkin, melons and squash. Don't you hate what laying in the mud can do to those types of ripening fruit? The vines will eary on grow through the springs and the blossoms will put their fruit up protected from rot upon the surface for easy harvesting.
