hearing you talk about enjoying art means a lot to me 😭 i'm absolutely terrified that one day, i'll wake up and hate drawing because i see so many videos of people falling out of love with art. so seeing someone whos been in the field for awhile and still being positive is very reassuring
Brltw even if something like that happened to you- it doesn't have to last forever! Interests & tastes change & that's completely okay. Sometimes a break gives people so many new things to bring to the table 🖤
As someone who had done exactly that June's really helped me love art again. I was getting back into it slowly on my own but this and cara (the art site/app) really has given me motivation and just a healthier mindset about it.
Lately I've been noticing artists like you and Emirichu being more transparent about their own feelings about their art, and it makes me feel sooo much better about my own art because I appreciate the way that even highly talented artists will admit that they sometimes struggle with art as well. Because it's far too easy for me, as a person that gets burnt out so easily from art, to see y'all pump out art so quickly and think that maybe I'm just lacking something. But it's something that all artists struggle with, even popular and talented artists.
Dude hating art that people can't see anything wrong with IS SO REAL. Im a digital media arts major in college and so many times the piece I hate is my classes favorite its PAINFUL
@@nahnonawnoe oh yeah, pointing out what’s nice about pieces is genuinely helpful. It’s really easy to only see mistakes so it’s nice to be shown the good stuff
Your newer content about enjoying the art process and having fun with sketches and characters and imperfections has honestly gotten me out of a really sticky mindset, I am embracing the art of "fudge it, we ball" and finally have been able to be patient with my art again. Thank you June 👍 most helpful artist youtuber and didn't even make a tutorial fr fr
Oooohh that little snippet at the end where you talked about the manner of the prism sketchbook has me SOOOO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!! I'm working on my own world of characters/story and I always love moments (er, periods?) where one epiphany turns the whole concept into something new and way better to the point where you can't even imagine it existing without the new stuff
I TOTALLY agree about watching all kinds of sketchbook tours by artists of all ages and "levels" of experience. There is so much creativity out there, and I find myself getting inspired by all of them. Not to mention you end up finding some great artists with small followings. It is nice to give smaller creators support!!
June I just want to say I heart you and have been following you for years so all this new growth for you has been very exciting!! Can't wait to see what you and the team cooked up this time 🙏
Your recent videos about studying and enjoying the process have really gotten me out of a creative rut! I’m excited to see where I can take my art in the next year, or years because I might never stop!! :D
Not gonna lie, I was facing the same problem with my art of losing the spark. And you going back to sketchbooks and seeing you just having FUN doing art, inspired me to TRY again, and went back to just experimenting in my sketchbook and OH BOI if it helped!!! I love to just put your videos and and just, have fun while I lisent to you.
I love seeing people have FUN with their art. Loved everything you did-please make more prompts next year (if you want a suggestion, one time my digital art program had its undo broken and it completely mucked everything-that was pretty scary)
6:47 there's a level of self sabotage in this that's soo infuriating because if you think about it, you know that if you have to point out or explain the flaw that they're not going to see it.
i loved this challenge! thank you for still showing the pieces that you werent happy with- its a godsend to artists like me still trying to fight off perfectionist tendencies!
Seeing someone who I consider a high level professional and skilled artist have similar struggles to mine is so reassuring, even if the process of trail and error is a lil difrrent
I love sketchbook tours! I used to watch them from all across youtube, its fun! as an artist, with burn out, to watch gets me in the mood to draw I need to go back and watch some again :)
i would love if you did this again next year! i was already doing a daily art challenge when this was announced so i didnt participate i did finish the challenge but i never want to do a daily art challenge again lmao, so having one thats more spread out would be fun to follow :)
While I didn't do your challenge, I did an inktober and it was suffering. I feel you at having to let go of what you want and just being happy with what you produced. Thanks for showing off your stuff.
I've been watching your content a lot lately, im happy to say that it has really helped me to feel happier with my art!! I'm still struggling a bit, but your videos always cheer me up, I've never felt so excited to draw ever TYSM for making content, you inspire so many people in their way with art❤
God it is so nice hearing another artist say the things Ive been saying for months now. A lot of my friends dont like their art and say it takes too long to make and compare themselves to me who can get fully rendered stuff done in maybe 1-2hrs. And thats bc I just draw what I feel like drawing for as long as I feel like drawing it. Which with my adhd brain is like 3hrs max. So I have to learn to cut corners and bc of that my work is littered with mistakes. But nobody sees them and thats smth I feel a lot of artists forget. You will notice your mistakes bc no matter what art you create you are somewhat up close and personal with it. You want every line to mean smth even when it rly doesnt and that sucks the joy out of art. But the thing is, the viewer is not thinking abt that art as critically as you are. Hell in my experience some of my mistakes others find a lot of unintended meaning in that truly is the beauty of art. Everyone finding separate meaning in things. So yea, embrace your mistakes and stop gaf abt making everything look perfect bc you are wasting your own time. Focus on what you want to improve and get good at at the time and you can always come back later and go over things youve done in the past with new knowledge Idk im rambling yay hooray art
Your videos have been really inspiring me lately! Ive been drawing for my whole life but I stopped when I moved last year because of how busy I got. I’m finally getting back into it
June, you’ve been my biggest inspiration for over six years now. Thank you so much for posting and being so honest about your process and growth, you have no idea the impact you’ve had on mine and so many others lives. Rock on
10/10 This video helped me gain free artistic will. I can explore what I like as much as I want omggggg. Anyways I really love this challenge and while it was really hard to be okay with my mistakes, this challenge really pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me enjoy art again.
The way you talk about art always gives me a new perspective, as an adult who's doing art commissions now (like I always dreamed of) it's so refreshing to hear you talk about trying so many different things and I always feel this NEED to CREATE when you do! You've been a huge inspiration for me for about 9 years now and I'm grateful to experience your growth and to grow along with you June
THE SPRITES ARE ALL SO EDIBLE !!! so visual pleasing and pretty and and . and you guys did yet another wonderful job💕💕 im walking away from this video i will continuously rewatch with the reminder that,,, that your art isn’t less than just bc it doesn’t match your original concept . hope that makes sense
Eating so well with all of the ginjaninja content this October. Definitely helped with getting inspo to finish goretober. Don’t finish this but I had a lotta fun doing the few prompts I did :3. Thanks for a fun prompt list, it would be fun to have another one next year :D
ngl, ive been following you for about 2 yeaars now, and i had no idea your sona design was supposed to be a fairy i thought it had a very subtle butterfly inspiration but not much more than that
I definitely didn’t do as many of the prompts as I wanted but I did get a chance to try doing traditional art again and experimenting with materials and getting out of my own head! Would love to try again next year!
I had a lot of fun with this challenge! I’m so glad I forced myself to do it traditionally. Since I started doing more digital art my traditional skills have been lacking and I haven’t felt confident enough to make anything. And then I realized who is going to care what’s in my sketchbook anyway? Why not let it be a big mess? And this challenge helped me realize nobody cares except me and I need to stop pressuring myself to be perfect. This was so fun thank you June and team!
i feel like a creatcher, clawing at the door, just waiting for more oc lore from you!!! you may be obsessed with drawing them, but im almost as equally obsessed with learning about them!!!
for 7:07 i js wanna say, i showed my drawings to a friend of mine and i was rlly proud of it!! HOWEVER she payed attention to the sketch BESIDES it, the messy ponies i drew for fun, so yeah :3 its nice to have messy weird sketches!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to your first prom i started to use more colors in my art? Like... WOW!! Never done that! DONT LIKE COLORS! But... it gave me the inspiration for it so yeah. :) Now my scketch book is becoming more colorful thanks to the first prom
9:55 You cannot just drop this on me and NOT expect me to look like a sad wet little doo doo baby cat 🥺 who can’t get into the fancy restaurant that has alllll the different fish and steaks because I’m a cat 😭 (I’m trying to save)
it was fun participating in your challenge even though I could only get myself to do the first prompt, thank you!!! despite it only being 5 drawings and 2 'failed' art challenges, I've still drawn a lot more than normal this month- those 5 are around as many complete drawings in October as I've done in the rest of the year combined! And that's also more than the last month-long drawing challenge I did only 1 prompt of a few years ago, that's a 500% improvement! lol (I have a hard time actually believing acknowledging these kind words, but gotta fake it 'til you make it lmao). I've been drawing since childhood but stoped enjoying it much after high school and early 2020's, thank you for helping show me I can still have fun with art again. Excited for that stream!! ❤❤
I sadly didn't take part in any drawing challenge this month but that's cause the fanfic bug bit HARD-but seeing these shorts was just fun to see and kept me pumping out nearly 70K words across 2 completed fics and 2 WIPS. Hopefully next time I'll be in a drawing mood to participate
Currently going through some burnout, but I was at least able to do one prompt with my blorbo oc whom I adore and had a lot of fun with the colors and effects. It didn’t cure my burnout, but at least it was fun!

People be silly like that our brains are goofy. love how it turned out!
The one about considering a piece done when you're no longer enjoying working on it is so real. I'm getting to the point where I'm learning to keep even old concept sketches and scrapped designs and things I started but didn't finish because there's value in them. I don't finish more things than I actually do, and that's still better than not drawing at all. I had to explain to my mom recently the concept of not letting your art be too precious to you the other day either. I cut and glued some sketches on loose paper into a notebook so that they wouldn't all just get purged when i ran out of space for loose paper and my mom tried to convince me to use a scrapbooking adhesive instead of a glue stick so it wouldn't be so hard on my drawings, but there's only half a dozen or so of these that wouldn't have ended up in the trash if i didn't do this anyway. I feel like they sound like opposing concepts but they actually go hand in hand in a way.
Yes 1000% to watching sketchbook tours. Also watch physical art "draw with me" videos. I can't tell you how many times I have had art block or been uninspired and I watched a sketchbook video and been absolutely blasted with motivation and inspiration. Also you can figure out cool ways to do art sometimes! Also, June- I'm just saying, you could totally be one of those people who upload their sketchbooks so we could learn. But I think a cool thing would be showing off your more recent one versus the oldest one youve got. I feel like a lot of artists would look at someone like you who is incredible at what you do and think "I am no where near his level. my art is garbage." but if you showed them that you didnt always draw so amazing, that it took a lot of effort, and studies, and hard work, it would be a fantastic motivator. EDIT: JUNE PLEASE KNOW I AM NOT SAYING YOU HAVE TO OR TRYING TO PRESSURE YOU- I just wanted to let you know there's an audience for that content if you ever think about posting it. It would be cool if you did, but if you never do thats cool too and I completely get it
*Dammit June!* I just looked at my bank account and realised I forgot to cancel the Skillshare membership you offered free for one month! £70 for a great service I don’t have time to use, this is your fault! YOU CREMATED MY WALLET WITH KINDNESS!!
I only made two entries, but sadly got discouraged rather quickly because I felt like my traditional art couldn't add up to the digital art submissions, lol
