Bubby and Benrey whispering to each other behind Gordon's back throughout this whole part was them plotting to lure Gordon into the trap set by the military soldiers, it's one of the few things they actually planned ahead instead of purely improv-ing as they'd done in the beginning (they did plan more and more things ahead as the story went on, playing off of things they already set up in their improv during the early parts) Also Wayne aka Gordon did not play Half Life before this series so he didn't know what to expect, but I believe Gir aka Bubby was very familiar with it, hence the great timing for some of Bubby's lines (for example "Watch out for the hole" in the last part, referencing the hole created by the vent they were in breaking rather than the obvious one Gordon avoided, or the "Gordon, I believe we're finally done with water.. FUCK" in this part)
Yeah it's really funny watching Gir displaying his superior knowledge, like how he corrects Gordon on the difference between trip mines and turret lasers, or when Gordon thinks there's two gonarchs, and many other cases I forget Edit: and when he correctly names the year Half-Life takes place in as "2000 and something" in this video
From what I heard, the chat was blurred because of some hateful messages about Trans people (Molly, the voice of Dr. Coomer is Transgender) and Wayne was very stressed about it during some parts including here at 20:10 and further throughout the video.
There's a good reason you don't remember the blue barrel puzzle; that's a Half Life Source addition. Honestly, you should try playing it at least *once* so you can feel how *JANK* it is.
Finally the real show begins with the betrayal. note that bubby and benrey set up that attack (reason they were wispering to eachother) tommy had no clue what was happening and coomer was just there. also bubby didn't seem to know they would cut gordens arm off. I say this all because this scene happens so quickly and suddenly with multiple people talking over eachother.
This was Wayne's first time playing Half-life. Also, the chat was blurred because there were people typing some transphobic stuff and attacking Holly for it.
if i remember right, The main person playing Gordon has played HL2, probably the episodes, and HL Alyx. I believe he is aware of some of the things, like the story of HL1, but this was a first playthrough i'm pretty sure. Most of the others involved here also never played HL1 prior to this, except for, i think Gir (Bubby's VA) and i want to say Holly (Coomer's VA) knew some stuff about it at least?
@@theduckgoesmoo adding to the Comment above, Gir (Bubby's Va) and the Stagehand Mike both knew Half life really well and are the experts out of the group. Holly Knew a lot of half life up to Xen so she too had a decent amount of experiance Meanwhile Scorpy (Benrey's va) was the total noob of the group knowing nothing about the series prior to this to finish off Wayne and Bauulp (Tommy's VA) knew about the first third of the game roughly up to the Blast Pit chapters To actully awnser you're question its possible it just came around as friend group things since they all (Minus Scopry) Knew enough about half life for it to work out.
About the blurred messages thing, the fact that people have to drag the real world into a fictional story saddens me greatly. Like regardless of personal opinions, can't you just check that at the door when you watch something? Why do people have to attempt to ruin the day of someone just trying to make them smile? Anyway, regardless, super happy that you're giving this series a shake. Highly recommend that in your own time you check out the behind the scenes. Far too lengthy for a reaction, but worth seeing if you like the series enough.
I forget whether you asked this part or last part, but I have some games that fans of Portal might enjoy watching. First of all, there are fan games like Portal Stories: Mel, Aperature Tag, and Portal Reloaded. Aside from those, first person physics puzzlers are a huge subgenre now after Portal popularized it. Quantum Conundrum is a fun one where you shift between dimensions with different physics properties to solve puzzles and one of the lead designers on the original Portal worked on it. There's also The Talos Principle which uses a variety of devices in its puzzles with a very philosophical story. Then there are a few noneuclidean games like Antichamber and Superliminal. The former is more about figuring out what the heck is going on in a labrynth that is constantly changing around you and figuring out the rules behind what is happening around you. Superliminal is more about leveraging optical illusions and forced perspective and it actually uses similar mechanics to a cancelled Portal sequel called F Stop. I can probably think of a few more, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
When you finish this series you absolutely need to do Half-Life alyx but the gnome to aware its hilarious but no one has reacted to yet you would be the first

Fun fact: because they're playing this in Gmod the "tranquilizer gun" is explosive, which has led to the term "Black-Mesa brand tranquilizers"
This is because the Gmod version of HL:S crossbow is the multiplayer, exploding one, not the single-player, bolt one.
@@KapitanWasTaken Nah it's because Black-Mesa doesn't understand tranquilizers

It’s really pure chaos
honestly benrey seemed surprised by them cutting off his arm, too

iirc Wayne utilized his anger with the chat to act better too

At the end of the day, they knew people would act like that in the chat, yet took no precautions.
