Yeah, similar. And there is no real reason to replace the pistol. Half Life 1 has a Glock, Half Life 2 the USP. and Half Life Alyx a M1911. Each game with it's own pistol.

one thing with the usp match from half-life 2, is that it is missing what makes it a usp match and not a usp. it is missing the barrel weight in the front to reduce recoil.
Never allow this guy on a shooting range. Somehow he managed to animate a gatling gun to shoot on its own and go on an autonomous killing spree, and he's clearly not concerned about things others would consider lethal with the way he just tanked that launcher's backblast like it was a morning breeze.
tbhH THE 1911 is kinda accurate because the 1911 was a human weapon, like the normal one, but then the combine got a hold of it, upgraded it and turned it into the one from the hl2 games, since alyx takes place in the past and she gets the pistol from Russel instead of a metropolice
Not to mention in half-life 2, Alyx's gun is also a modified 1911 it makes sense for lore consistency for her to have the 1911 as the gun from HLA is implied to be the same gun that evolved into the one she uses in half-life 2.
my biggest gripes with this game (im only a minute into the video) was the movement speed/lack of sprint, the lack of an actual jump button (there were platforming sections that forced you to teleport), and how slow and lame the antlions were and how terrible of a shot the strider was (mixed with the slow movement, made for a boring section when it should have been epic)
Valve absolutely knocked this game out the park so it's a shame to undermine that by saying modders "fixed" the game. If they were bugs then yeah - fixed would be appropriate. But suggesting it's broken because there is room for improvement is a disheartening thing to hear as a developer when you've spent years building something. It's like the other day, someone tweeted that someone had "fixed" Akira by using AI to change the aspect ratio to vertical so it works with a phone display.
Another awesome video! I went straight to the workshop yesterday (after I saw the video on Patreon). I downloaded a bunch of these mods and played HL: Alyx for hours.🙃Such a good game. and your work as a curator is great for lazy VR players like myself. 😅 I hope it will make more people pull the trigger on a VR headset purchase. Personally, I don't think PCVR is lacking games... It's just lacking curation and media coverage to reach out to the masses.
I just find it odd that Valve didn't think to take out the tells for the headcrab and the antlion for the official hard mode... Thank gaben for mods though.
Valve REALLY dropped the ball on the post-release support. No additional content, no additional features, no SDK, and no communication. Valve had the potential to create something really special for VR, and they basically just pooped out a polished project and ran away. I don't consider covid as much as a valid excuse just based on their existing project management structure. Then of course there is the scrapping of the wigig2 module for the Index, Source 2 tools being extremely lacking and nonexistent, S&Box not getting the help they need, Vertigo dev not getting the help he needed, Boneworks not getting the help they needed (mostly Brandon's/CEO's fault), and of course Deckard and the other VR game projects getting either scrapped or put on a shelf. Steamdeck is amazing and deserves all the attention they can muster, but we all know Valve is capable of more. They have the capacity to completely take over other industries with the best products on the market. They also capable of allowing the community help them complete projects that really need to be worked on. Valve is is staying quiet nonetheless. Makes me sad.
You talked a lot about valve releasing an SDK look no further S&box has you covered its built from the HL Alyx branch of Source 2 and is basically a game engine like unity with custom tools (ofc all the tools from hl alyx are there too). You can basically make any game you want in there. By default it supports 3D and VR with some 2.5D gamemodes already beeing out too. And its developed by Facepunch.
0:25 I find that with the limited amount of space I have to play I end up getting overwhelmed by enemies in HLA due to being worried about hitting stuff around me. This started after I punched the corner of my desk so hard while playing a VR game that I split my hand open and started bleeding pretty badly. So imo it doesn't lack challenge but I guess I could see how more active people with more space could be disappointed. My real disappointment comes from it not feeling like a Half-Life game gameplay wise. While VR is cool I prefer normal FPS Half-Life.
there's a dismemberment(gib mod) with a crap tonne of blood. i have never looked at the workshop before lmao oke imma have so much fun now. why tf have i never looked at it :s
I would argue Half Life Alyx was already perfect, and it's perfectness of literally bringing over an entire new source engine for people to start using, along with valve's usual workshop support which is literally, if you don't think it's perfect, then change it.
Imagine playing as a Strider or a Hunter in VR! 3:28 Ackchyually, that's the standard USP9. Technically a better choice than the Match version since it's built from the ground up as a combat pistol, whereas the Match version is for target and competition shooting. At any rate, it retains its two-tone style which is super-snazz. 4:13 / 5:55 What do those look like in left-handed mode? 4:26 There's a 9mm SMG version of the Steyr AUG. Also, those sights should be elevated to match the line-of-sight required for a bullpup.
I would love to see a video dedicated to just cool maps and campaigns someday, with basically everything that you think is worth playing. Either way that was a good list of mods, I'm saving this video for later when I feel like replaying HLA.

Another great video! Love your channel man, keep up the great content! Any plans to do content on psvr2?
When I finally get one I will be covering PSVR 2 stuff on the channel
Never allow this guy on a shooting range. Somehow he managed to animate a gatling gun to shoot on its own and go on an autonomous killing spree, and he's clearly not concerned about things others would consider lethal with the way he just tanked that launcher's backblast like it was a morning breeze.
imagine getting drafted in 2040 and you fail training because you e-killed everyone at the range after glitching out the e-machine gun
3:07 "Let's face it, who doesn't like it hard?"
Very poor choice of words
Very comprehensive!
3:30 the pistol alyx uses in this game becomes alyx's gun from hl2, so it shouldn't be the USP mach
3:08 "Let's face it, who doesn't like it hard?"
Me who just wants to relax after a stressful day: "Let's agree to disagree"
tbhH THE 1911 is kinda accurate because the 1911 was a human weapon, like the normal one, but then the combine got a hold of it, upgraded it and turned it into the one from the hl2 games, since alyx takes place in the past and she gets the pistol from Russel instead of a metropolice
aperture vr just shows us how portal 3 will look
I was very underwhelmed by Gunman Contracts but I'll give the rest of these a shot
i feel like changing the kind of 1911 style pistol into a USP is kinda just, wrong
completely changes the caliber from .45 ACP -> 9x19mm is just wierd
usp can be chambered in .45 acp tho 💀
Not to mention in half-life 2, Alyx's gun is also a modified 1911 it makes sense for lore consistency for her to have the 1911 as the gun from HLA is implied to be the same gun that evolved into the one she uses in half-life 2.
2 handed weapons in HL2 VR worked and pumping the shotgun was fun. I liked it more than alyx.
my biggest gripes with this game (im only a minute into the video) was the movement speed/lack of sprint, the lack of an actual jump button (there were platforming sections that forced you to teleport), and how slow and lame the antlions were and how terrible of a shot the strider was (mixed with the slow movement, made for a boring section when it should have been epic)
Thank you, you have a very professional method.
They need to make Portal: Chell. Basically portal 3 but vr, then drop half life 3 which will be just half life but with portal gun.
those gloves look so cool 😔
Another awesome video! I went straight to the workshop yesterday (after I saw the video on Patreon). I downloaded a bunch of these mods and played HL: Alyx for hours.🙃Such a good game. and your work as a curator is great for lazy VR players like myself. 😅 I hope it will make more people pull the trigger on a VR headset purchase. Personally, I don't think PCVR is lacking games... It's just lacking curation and media coverage to reach out to the masses.
Thanks, nice to see its getting people back into Half Life Alyx.
I didn't know there were so many great mods for half life alyx out there. I guess it's time for me to revisit it.
I just find it odd that Valve didn't think to take out the tells for the headcrab and the antlion for the official hard mode...
Thank gaben for mods though.
execuse me, GOON SQUAD?
I'm so glad you returned to your old content. :)
Valve and modding is the cutest love story ever
Man, the sounds of the modded Tau Cannon makes me sad.
you can hold the default pistol with 2 hands too
I honestly thought the channel was going to have over 100k subscribers, but I am thoroughly suprised at how underated you are!
3:05 really caught me off guard 😂
6:18 that one little comment about the sdk wams the heart. thank you, finally someone is saying it.
Some great HLA mods there.
Song at start is “triage at dawn”
Victory mines is basically the same area like in Half Life 2 Episode 2 Which says Shahta pobedy which is Russian for Victory mines
Was about to say that, I'm surprised he missed that
0:25 I find that with the limited amount of space I have to play I end up getting overwhelmed by enemies in HLA due to being worried about hitting stuff around me.
This game could be a great addition for VR peripheral owners, but milions of gamers are waioting for new HL game with Gordon Freeman.
Why would combine soldiers be waiting for Alyx at the star? Doesn't make sense for that ambush to be there.
2:30 reminds me of half life 1 and 2 when they didn’t give a warning at all
i just came back to this video and i was at 3:09 and the first thing i hear is "let's face it, who doesn't like it hard" 😭
The true john wick simulator is called boneworks
I don't get the people that want more difficult levels, just play HLA on hard
Now, the levels that expand the universe, THAT's where it's at!
there's a dismemberment(gib mod) with a crap tonne of blood. i have never looked at the workshop before lmao oke imma have so much fun now. why tf have i never looked at it :s
To answer the Tau cannon question, that's because the grip for it is weird. Somewhat rifle-like.
I would love to see a video dedicated to just cool maps and campaigns someday, with basically everything that you think is worth playing. Either way that was a good list of mods, I'm saving this video for later when I feel like replaying HLA.
I put a link to my favourites in the description which has all the Custom Levels I played and enjoyed.
also a good vr game is half life 2 vr mod, rn im just after the sandtraps chapter but i can already tell you that its worth playing as a first vr game
Thumbnail is the gun wrong btw. Alyx never carried a USP in HL2. She carried a highly modified double-stack 1911 handgun.
hla is pretty much perfect already imo
I don't think changing the m1911 to the usp-s match is a fix
well i dont think changing the USP-S match to an m1911 is good so the modders fixed it.
@@Glitchtroll But Alyx always used an m1911, the "Alyx Gun" seen being used by Alyx through half-life 2 is a modified m1911 and presumably the same gun from HLA.
@@Walternity it IS the same gun from HlA
@@Glitchtroll I know, that's what I was saying. That's why I don't like replacing it with another gun to make it consistent with the half-life 2 alyx gun.
the bean gun is easily the best weapon
You have a very interesting definition of 'fixing'.
maybe this is me but the usp pistol doesn't fix half life i dont think its 100% better. if you look at half life 2 alyx's gun base looks like a 1911with extra stuff on it. dont get me wrong its THE best pistol replacement the game has. but i feel like nostalgia is the only reason you say it fixes the game
imagine garry's mod but a VR version with all this graphics and content
Half life 2 got ported into VR and it’s arguably more fun than Alyx, highly recommend!
sandbox might have that...
though sandbox is more of a game engine when it releases so even vr might be possible
Man now I wish i had the money for a Vr headset
