This song has that 70s groovy California sound with a 90s flair. This is probably one of her first songs. One of my favorites Sheryl Crow songs.

I love Sheryl Crow. Her music from back then is my summertime camping and riding around music. My fav song from her is, If It Makes You Happy. She was once considered to have the sexiest mouth in rock & roll. Lol. 😁

This was the second single of her second album (self-titled album) after ''If It Makes You Happy'' and was since it came out a classic of her catalogue and her career. I heard in radios when i was young and almost reaching the top 10 in 1996 (reaching n.11 in automn 1996). A classic of her catalogue.

This song has a few Crowded House connections because Sheryl opened for them on their 1994 tour. Lead singer Neil Finn is singing backup here. The second verse (“he’s got a daughter he calls ‘Easter’”) is a reference to the band’s drummer Paul Hester.

Don’t think I’ve heard of crowded house

@@EmpressReacts You’ve probably heard their biggest hit at least in passing, “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” It’s a great song that was massive in the 80s. You should react to it! After their first album, they were much bigger in other parts of the world.

***SHERYL CROW TRIVIA TIME!!*** ....everyday...and, ANY Day.....I'll always love Miss Sheryl...(1:37)....
    - ...first things, first....(1:02)....It's '...vending Machine REPAIRMAN..', Empress....now, onto my FAVORITE Sheryl crow tune! ...this was the 2nd single from her 1996 self-titled CD; it showed Sheryl was on the ball of 90's influenced Grunge-Rock / L.A. Pop Music, and setting the tone for Women in Rock, at the time.....
    - ...this tune peaked at #11 Pop (..I'm still healing from a pulled back, so no charts, for this One..), but it shows Sheryl doing more 'happier' Rock during the 1996 / 1997 period.....The Video is FABULOUSLY "90's", with a retro 70's vibe, possibly my favorite Video from her......
    - ...the tune is about a chick who leaves 'something' negative behind, and hitches a ride w/ a "Worldly" Vending machine repairman who gives her hippie advice to follow into her new 'destination', and Sheryl has become more optimistic, because of it....WONDERFUL tune....... (5:02)

I think Olivia Rodrigo and Willow is the closest we can get in this era.

She was Michael Jacson's female singer on the Thriller tour.....they told her she sang too good to be a star so she developed a talking style to be a star.......she was a back up singer before she was a star on hit records

Interesting ‼️ So she sang less good to become a star

Nice! I have the album this song is from on cd. The percussion groove with the two guitars in the intro is straight outta The Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the Devil".
